So with global roaming enabled on the Verizon Razor Maxx, can we pop any GSM chip in when we are overseas or is it locked to verizon only?

What size SIM? Is it a microSim? If so, I will have to get my full-size ones replaced!
Do you have to change any default settings to get voice/3g data working?

Voice/SMS should work without changing anything. You'll need to change the APN settings in order to get data working.
Can you please elaborate on the APN?

Hi,
I purchased my phone in Canada, proceded to unlock it as well as install Jusada's awesome ice cream Sunday final rom.
I had 3G connectivity in Canada but now that I'm in South Africa, i purchased a Vodacom SIM card but can only connect to the EDGE network, no 3G.
I know that the 3G frequencies here are 2100 & 900. I think it might have to do with my baseband but I have no idea which one I should switch to.
My current baseband is S5830DTLKI4. I also attached a screenshot of my about phone page if it helps.

I'm here on vacation! I like this place I always miss Biltong.
I flashed MODEM_S5830XWKP7_CL407346_REV03 to the phone via ODIN but it is still only connecting to the EDGE network...
Are there any other basebands that would work on the following frequencies:
GSM 900/1800
3G 2100/900
I think you maybe should setup a APN for Vodacom. Find it in Google.

Is there a way to turn off just 4g LTE on newts one xxx? I live in mostly 3g area and don't want the battery drain from the phone searching for LTE signal. I know how to use the menu and change from global to gsm to cdma/lte, but I can't find the option to turn off LTE only of there is one.

no problem. I am using the same rom. It is super smooth now that I removed the ottrbox defender from my rezound. It was cauing my screen to go black when I tried to get things open sometime. I have the otterbox commuter coming.
I finally upgraded from the rls 3.2.1. Ive been on it two days now and I love it. It's super smooth, noticed no lag yet running funky's 1.5 kernel because I like the fast charge since I'm only near a car charger most of the day. But battery life is really good, better than 3.2.1. The only problem I had was the 4g, but ya'll showed me the solution. Newt has arguably the best sense roms out here.

This is my main concern as well. I don't want JB if it breaks wifi tether. I know you can root to get it back, but I have no reason to root besides that so I don't really want to.

Nothing fancy. Everything is exactly the same with BLUR, no new apps or anything, no refinements.
The Dual Core underneath the Motorola boot logo is gone
The boot animation is even MORE out of sync now with the audio
New Notification bar pulldown matching jellybean exactly, otherwise unchanged
Google Now opens if you long press search
Butter, of course.
That's it.

It didn't even cross my mind, and I just read this thread and tried FoxFi, and it is NOT working. When you activate it, it displays a message saying it is checking the subscription status, and then a message displays that tells me to call an 800-number because my order could not be processed.
Damn, should have thought about this first. I do like JB otherwise (a lot), but this is a real bummer.

I haven't tried FoxFi using Bluetooth, but I have "Open Garden" installed on my devices, and I just use that to connect via Bluetooth until hopefully FoxFi's WiFi is fixed.
I will not update to JB until foxfi works with it. It is just too good an app to lose.

Right next to this thread you can find the 12/24/12 Update xt912 thread.
I updated my Maxx Saturday.
Hi all,
This is a thread for d803 owners to discuss how we're going to get LTE supported in KitKat.
Right now, if you flash the popular KK_Baseband floating around, you'll get "4G" after either deleting lteconfigs.apk, or tweaking your build.prop (depending on your ROM). So don't expect "4G" right off the bat, however, even after doing all necessary tweaks, you'll likely find what I found:
"4G" is not 4G, it's HSPA+ in desguise. You can tell by running speed tests (and also noting that the Network always reverts to GSM/WCDMA), they are all within HSPA+ speeds. Reverting back to JB, and running the same speed tests in the same areas results in MUCH faster speeds as it's true LTE. Meaning: 4G does not equal LTE.
Now, I know what you're thinking, "this guys a newb and didn't do the tweaks needed". No, that's not the case, I did all the tweaks, I tried this on CloudyFlex, CloudyStock and even the Rogers KK ROM floating around, all were stuck on GSM/WCDMA with "4G", which is really HSPA+.
So this being said, there appears to be no way to run a custom stock ROM, with LTE, I hope I'm wrong.
Cheers
Make sure you hve the right lte apn created and selected in apn settings , next forget about the icon , most roms are gonna say 4g , but check in networks settings if it says lte if it does your getting lte

4g is LTE in configs that use US ROM base because they use that icon for the ROM instead of LTE.. Hspa has the H icon but if you check the network status screen it will show hspap... I have LTE working perfectly on my bell d803 with cloudypro2

You know 4g means lte for international Rom, only north America use 4g as hspa. Whenever you flash a custom Rom, they are mostly base on international Rom. So the 4g is actually mean lte. You can also check the mobile network type in setting as what deadgiveaway show.

I don't know if Verizon even allow unlocked phones these days. Last year February I tried to activate my Nubia Z7 Max which was compatible with their cdma and it wouldn't work. They have a list of approved phones in their database for the sim to work properly. It's their way of forcing you to buy their phones. It works fine on Tmobile and AT&T. Screw Verizon.
