Seems like a work around. I need to attach my S III to an ad-hoc wifi that I cannot modify. For example, the Brookstone Rover 2.0. I think I need to fix the wifi code in android on the phone. I understand android ignores these ad-hoc wifi netowrks so i cannot connect to them like the iPhone does. I know some devices previously were fixed with a modified WPA_Supplicant file. I have not seen such a solution for the Galaxy S III. Anyone know if there is such a solution?

anyone found a fix to this issue?

any ideia how we can do this?
Yes, I think it is possible now.
I've done it on my Vizio tab after the root.
Original idea came from the Nook Color people.

weird, it works with my galaxy nexus and HTC sensation without root....
Hi
Just to inform that there is an alternative process, more automatic, to have ad-hoc connection between smartphone and our tablet.
You need to have root, install BusyBox and with WiFi Ad Hoc enabler you can enable the ad-hoc feature.

This question should be posted in the general section, not development....
BUT, android can't natively connect to ad-hoc networks without a modified wpa_supplicant. You should search in the forum for your Samsung tablet for a compatible wpa_supplicant file, and you must be rooted to install it.

Is your device temp rooted or you have wifi tethering plan with Verizon?
You can download and run CleanTool to temp root your device and install any wifi tethering app on the market.

[Q] HD2 6.5 Wi-Fi tethering with android tablet

Hi All,
I running the stock wm6.5 HD2 rom from t-mobile.
I have just bought a Arnova 10 G2 (cheap from hmv) and would like to use my phone wi-fi hotspot to get online. The problem I have is, the tablet does not recognise WEP encryption.
Can someone tell me the easiest way I can get online using my phone?
I have done several searches and a few people discuss similar issues and talk about writing and adding code. I do not know how to do this as I'm a middle aged fat bloke with no understanding of such things.
I have read a lot about flashing the phone to make it android, would this help or is there a simpler way?
Thanks in advance
CJ
Problem is not your WM6.5 HD2.
Problem is Android has ****e standard connectivity & does not have ad-hoc support as standard.
You will have to find an ad-hoc fix for the Tablet.
WM6.5 conectivity for tethering in both directions is faultless & can be achieved via wifi/BT/USB

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I'm not sure how to find a ad-hoc fix for the tablet. I've looked for wi-fi apps to find one that will recognise WEP w-fi.
there are a few out there but they find the phone but do not allow connection. as when you try to connect it takes you back to the tablet software.
thanks again for your help.
i have the same problem ... HD2 WM.6.5 and ARCHOS 70 INTERNET
do you found a solution??

The only way I've found is to replace the wpa supplicant file, and it will require root access. I can't seem to attach files from my View. I got the file in the Dell Streak forum - search for wpa_supplicant. The one I have is for gb.
Sent from my HTC View in LALA land.
EDIT: OK, back on my PC, and here is the thread with the file:

Hello, I've got the same tablet and tethering works with my htchd2. Wifi routing does not work, I was not able to create a PAN network with my HTC HD2, and was not able to see a DUN network on my tablet. (or is it the other way round ?)
But tethering, using my 3G connection works. I sometimes need to reboot the tablet.

[Q] Ad hoc on Galaxy s3?

Hi. I come from Apple's iPhone, and don't know many things about Android.. One of the annoying "problems" Android software has, is not recognizing ad hoc hotspots... I googled for an answer, and found that there is an app called Wifi Ad Hoc enabler, but is compatible with only 5 or 6 Android devices. So i ask, if there is a way to fix this on my Galaxy s3 and be able to recognize and connect to ad hoc hotspots......
Can't be done yet but apparently some people are working on it.

Thank you for your answer... I suppose, that when a solution is found, it will be posted in this section... Thank you again...
In most cases people whe create/need ad-hoc hotspots, they are trying to tether the phone on the computer's internet connection.
If you're running Windows, try using Connectify on the computer (Windows 7 only). That application will create a real AP hotspot and not ad-hoc connections.

[Solved]No internet by connecting through Virtual Wifi (Seven)

Hi!
Today I received my brand new Galaxy S III and very happy with it
I'm just facing a little problem:
I have a laptop connected to the Internet through ethernet and my HTC Desire connects through my laptop wifi card to get internet access.
(for example, see here : http://www.technospot.net/blogs/how-to-enable-windows-7-virtual-wifi/)
The problem is that with the Galaxy S III it's not working...
I can connect it to my laptop wifi but it doesn't get any Internet connection...
Has anyone faced this problem too?
The strange thing is that I connect my Galaxy S III to "real" Wifi access point...
Any help is great
Thanks!
see you!
it's kown issue, you can serch ""wifi" in this forum, but it's not solved.

Actually, I "fixed" the issue by updating my wifi drivers. I don't know what changer becauseI thought it was an issue related to the phone since the Desire could connect.
Now both phones can connect so that's great
Bye!
Can you please give more information about how to update wifi drivers?
I am having similar problem here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846850
