Have searched and searched for a rom that will boot on my Element and have had no luck. Every rom I try gives me signature failures any thoughts guys? can someone help bring the little tablet that could into the 4.0.4 realm?

I'd love to see this too, but we never even got on Honeycomb ROMs based on stock, let alone ICS.
I think we're going to have to just wait for AT&T and Pantech to get around to fulfilling their promises.

I'm not a Dev, but I'm pretty sure that roms are device specific, so any rom not specifically signed for the pantech element will fail. If you can find devs interested in developing for the pantech element, that would be great. I wouldn't even know how to change the signature on a rom to even allow it to flash... let alone boot. if you go around playing with that stuff too much though, you could end up with a nice big brick, so I recommend practicing extreme caution when dealing with flashing an unsupported rom to a device. That being said, my element should arrive tomorrow or thursday and I'd really like a custom rom. the good news is that the brand of honeycome the element runs by default is pretty close to stock, albeit with a bunch of att bloatware. With a rooted device though, you should be able to mount the system folder as read / write and remove whatever apps you don't want. Just make sure you've backed up the original rom with all its parts in case you accidentallz delete something important. I've seen some carriers make certain services dependant on certain bloatware applications.
My pantech element finally arrived in the mail today. I'm trying to be a good boy and let it charge all the way up before I turn it on so that the battery doesn't lose capacity as quickly over time. I'm super sad that there isn't much in the way of development for this tablet yet. It kinda doesn't give me much hope for its future.... speaking of future, there should be an episode of Futurama available for me to download. I'ma do that to help pass the time.
awesome!!! the ICS update launched today. here's hoping we can still root after update.. I'm gonna try it out!

Is anyone working on a ROM for this new tab? It has a great form factor and would seem to be a perfect mid-level tab. At a great price, it just needs a clean version of Android on it with GApps. Any takers? BTW, my best buddy has one that he is giving his wife for Christmas, and I have played with it and it really needs clean ROM.
good question
i would love to know as well
Me Too!
My sister just got one of these. I've had so much success with ROMs on my Eris, I would love to be able to offer her one for the Next3. Come on guys, you can do it!
From all of my searching around the 'net, it seems that NOONE is working on a custom rom for the Next3 or even managed to permanently root it. Bizarre.
I guess I'll keep looking. A clean custom 2.2 rom would be really nice for this tablet after the bloatware is blown away.
I would love to see this happen as well.... i bought my daughter one for xmas and would love to root this bad boy in advance for honeycomb.

Now THIS is what I've been waiting to here... got my bf a Next3 for Christmas as well and its' a great little tablet just is REALLY limited thanks to their custom OS.
Anybody made any progress with this device as far as a custom rom is concerned???

HEY! I got $$ for someone who wants to help me get this to 2.2!!!!
Let the Starting Bid go for 50 bucks.
You got me up and running on 2.2, you get paid.
Im in for 25. That's 75 now.
Sent from your Moms EVO using 4G speed
I'm also looking for root / 2.2 for this device, will donate if some dev could come through for us.
I can't believe that its that difficult to root this thing and throw 2.2 on it. Hell nook color has been cracked already.
Sent from your Moms EVO using 4G speed
Anyone want to take this on yet?

ill put some cash down its kinda sad this tabs been out for so long and still no one has even tryed to rom it
Rom and Root for Next
I just saw the device and its nice. For the price, I may have to go out and get one just for the gadget hoarder in me...
I have a suggestion... Why doesn't someone start a donation pool to purchase the tablets for the devs to start cracking it. That is what happened with the nook. Team Cyanogen took up the challenge, and I have to say that I am happy with my rooted cyanogen nook running nightly builds. And next payday, I am donating to that project...
The long short of it. Devs crack the devices that they OWN because of the challenge to bring greater functionality to the devices... Find a willing dev team and get some devices in their hands and wait for the magic to happen.
Just my two cents...
posable firmware dump
using the instructions here http://wiki.archosfans.com/index.php?title=Dump_your_Home_Tablet_rom_and_create_a_custom_rom i was abel to make a dump of the next3 system http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9DEL0E25 thats the recovery/backup image i also have the boot, kernel recovery, system and update images maby this would be enuf to help some one emulate are device and posably start rooting it im going to look more into it too see if i can do any thing but i dont know the first thing about it but its defanatly a start isnt it?
I wouldn't mind donating if someone from CM would come out and commit to getting it running. The devices aren't that expensive and I think that if we donated the money for them to get one, that would be a benefit for everyone. The form factor on this thing alone is awesome.
I have the imgs I just need help moding it
Sent from my rk2818sdk
im going to see if i can get someone to pick this up over at CM.... Dont let this die guys...we need this thing rooted.
Now that the Nook Tablet has been rooted, has anyone thought about putting Android 4.0 on theirs yet?
I'm not talking about themes but, the actual OS. I have looked at the specs and it should work. I am not a modder myself but would love to do this. (Just need the steps.)
According to this site, I should be able to do it but, I don't see any real easy way to do it like I did my HD2 phone.
developer.android.com/index.html
I could probably get it done with trial and error just wanted to know if anyone was working on this path.
can't yet.....locked bootloader.
Gee, I don't think any of us had even given it a thought.
Do a little search here and you'll know that it is impossible at the moment for Custom ROM!!! Close this thread!!! This is a Developer Thread

There is a MASSIVE difference between "rooted" and "custom firmware", especially "custom firmware that is different in base version than stock".
Basically, the chances of ever seeing ICS on the Nook Tablet are slim to none thanks to the locked bootloader.
Also, this isn't development.
I have been trying to see how far this NT would let me go by replacing certain files at a time to try and port a ROM over. IT IS VERY SESITIVE ! I replaced one binary file in /system/bin/ and went into boot loop and forced factory restore (full). I am working to try and do some porting (actually has Sense 3.0 launcher/Rosie coming up at one point), but as other are saying, until the bootloader issue is resolved with a bypass / bootstrap don't expect too much. Subtle changes like CM7 or something with similar structure may be possible to a certain degree, but something like ICS that is a total replacement of files, don't see it happening just yet.
Then there will be the kernel issue if it needs a special kernel to work.
Damn bootloader !!
I will just have to be patient then.
I will just have to be patient then. I am watching other forums as well. I will see who wins the race to get the bootloader killed/re-written.
I am trying to get my compadries to come in here and post. They are trying to do same thing. I am not the coders they are. I am just a power user. I will leave the haxing to you dudes.

Actually, it is not impossible to have custom ROMs with a locked bootloader. There are plenty for the Droid X. There is even one that is using parts from ICS. It just takes more work, there are limitations on what can be done, and the results won't be as good.

The limitation right now is a bootloader bypass/bootstrap and recovery. As long as you are going through the checks the stock bootloader has in place, changes are iffy at best. But we will get there.
Ice Cream Sandwich Launcher
I just installed the Ice Cream Sandwich launcher apk and it works great. You can get ICS_2.4_Launcher.apk from the Releases tab of syndicateapps.com.
It's fun to play around with!

I'm looking for a method in rooting the device.
I'm aware that RazorClaw is suppose to work on the device but could anyone confirm that it there are no bugs which would possibly brick the device etc?
PS. This is my first tablet / android device so please bare with me.
Thanks In Advance!

I'm not rooting till ics comes ota
I think you will be fine rooting that way. There is a site that reviewed th tfp and they used that root method and they said it went well with no issues.
What the hurry ?
It might not be a bad idea to wait until the unit is burned in, and you are satisfied that everything is working perfectly before mucking around (i.e. rooting). Then, if you have problems, you can more certain that the problems are attributable to the rooting.
Enjoy your Prime
Could anyone brief me with the cons of rooting the device? :|
Research first, especially with this being your first android tab. Don't be over anxious n go bricking your device..lol.
Was there an immediate notification for an update after you opened it? Razor claw supposedly doesn't work after Asus pushed a system update. It was rooted prior to update on in-store demo model.
What's reason for eagerness to root so quickly? There are no custom roms or anything out yet. It's not 3G so no tethering. If you root and uninstall system files/bloatware you won't be able to do OTA update to Icer Cream Sandwich. Which means you will have to wait till someone here makes a version, which might not for a while.
Sorry that this is off topic, but does the color you ordered seem true to the advertised pics?

Good thing we have search engines....
1. Technically voids warranty and may not allow OTA updates.
2. Possibility of a brick if you don't know WTF you're doing.
Huummmm... cons of rooting..... hummm... don't rush, still thinking.... possible OTA update issue, very unlikely, but still possible I guess; most of the time the OTA will just erase the root.... uummmm yeah, that's about all I can think of.
Also, guess there's a very small chance of a soft brick... but I would tend to think that the root will either take, or it wont... but there's still a chance I guess.
IMO, the benefits far outweigh the "possible" consequences.
Wish I had mine, I do it in a heart beat.

These days when there's a one-click for everything...it's very hard to jack anything up. Now, going in manually...there's always risk of operator error.

With this being his first tablet and Android device period, seems like he wants to root just for the sake of saying he's rooted. You know very well what happens to a lot of new people to Android that just jump in and want to root w/o thoroughly doing the homework first. Lmao

ATM, other than de-bloating there is very little reason for root.
Does anyone know by any chance the official release date of ICS?
I'm aware that it has been "released" to certain phones like the Samsung Galaxy, but when would it be made available to the Asus Transformer Prime? o_o

Yeah, no other reason... except de-odexing, themeing, TI Backup, freezing, editing database files, changing VM Heap size, installing custom scripts, overclocking/undervolting custom kernels, disabling startup processes.... that's just off the top of my head.

No Official date yet but could be by end of this month or mid Jan. It literally could be anyday. Just keep a lookout on an update notification popping up. Or even go to settings and about. Then click on system or whatever to see of it searches and finds an update for your device.

Everybody says root root. The new roms come out fast... I did it with my original tf and roms don't come out that fast especially if Asus is going to push ICS soon. I'd wait a while especially since a lot of potential devs won't get their unit for several weeks or months!
Are the One X Roms compatible with the new Nvidia 1.7GHz in the One X+,
Can we flash One X Roms to the One X+?
Thanks guys,
Alex
No, that's a pity, I know.
not yet,
from the knowladge i gatherd now it wont be to hard though to make it work.
just a couple of driver changes and some name changes in boot.img.
atleast, when they make jb roms. the ics roms prob wont work cause the bootloader is made for jb

Okay so I know this is not for the dinc4glte but for the older brother dinc2 phone. This doesn't even take 5 min to help another forum in need. So please be so kind I'm not even asking much.

On this issue, didn't I see somewhere where HTC was releasing plane-jane ROMs for some of their devices? I wonder if petitioning for one of those would get a response? Just thinking that HTC probably finished the ICS ROM for the Dinc2 months ago and gave it to VZW, where it is collecting dust. I know source code is most desirable, but a finished ROM would help, too. Yeah?
I'll try to find where I ran across that and post a link.....

No, not a leak. I flashed plenty of ROMs based on leaks to my Dinc2.
So it was in this article here, which is about HTC setting a 512MB RAM bar for their devices to receive JB.
I thought this quote was interesting: “Chou and Co. also noted that they plan to post "generic development ROMs" of Jelly Bean for the One X and One S to its developer website as soon as they're fully baked. “
So if they are posting "generic development ROMs" why can’t they do that for devices like the Dinc2? Anyway, just something to think about asking for since they are obviously putting them together.
