[Q] Compatibility with One X ROMS - HTC One X+

Are the One X Roms compatible with the new Nvidia 1.7GHz in the One X+,
Can we flash One X Roms to the One X+?
Thanks guys,
Alex

No, that's a pity, I know.

not yet,
from the knowladge i gatherd now it wont be to hard though to make it work.
just a couple of driver changes and some name changes in boot.img.
atleast, when they make jb roms. the ics roms prob wont work cause the bootloader is made for jb

Thanks, @miniterror good logic, I guess so, I may just leave mine stock go for bid, o2 have really gained my respect there was only one piece of o2 bloatware on the phone which allowed you to install it! It gives you links to install the rest so may not even need to root here!
But getting flash withdrawal from the HD2 days

hi... and a question or 2, please help =]

hi guys i am new here so please be kind =D
ok, so i have a t-mobile g2 which i got in february and have been waiting ever since for 2.1. i am tired of waiting and am also thinking that 2.1 is probably a waste and would rather root.
so heres what i am looking for in a custom rom: longer battery life, overclocking, something that dosent lag alot (sense dosent but it has its annoying moments, especially on the lock screen), ease of use. you get the idea.
now i have not done alot of research into the custom rom area so any suggestions would be great.
and a second question: what is the best and safest way to go about rooting?
cheers guys

Cronos Droid 1.7.1 is the best for what you're saying It's THE fastest ROM out there
Here's a guide to root I haven't used it but im pretty sure it's how i did when i rooted (a looong time ago) so it should work

Here is a guide for rooting and installing custom ROMs.
http://www.villainrom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=375&start=0
You will need gold card method iirc
VillainROM 10.3 with JIT and ninpo's bfs kernel is really fast. And you mention lock screens. Vr has stock android one too with selectable wallpaper and working alarm
cool, thanks will take a look at these cheers.
any other suggestion on roms, ive heard alot about modaco... but i what have youhad experience with?

In my experiences with it it's the fastest official 2.1 ROM along with VillainROM (Cronos Droid is also based on it but MoDaCo is more "raw" (more official) if you can say that) but Cronos Droid is even faster because of Feeyos modified libraries MoDaCo is a bit more laggy at times but MCR 4 isn't released yet (it's only a RC i think?) so thats what you would expect... I think when MCR 4 is released it's probably as fast as Cronos Droid but for now I think Cronos Droid would be the best for you unless you are totally in to that shiny Legend/Desire kind of look (which Cronos Droid doesen't have) then i would recommend MoDaCo or VillainROM
ahhh cool, im not tooo bothered about the look as long as it runs well and gives me a bit better battery life. just a thought out of 10 what are the chances of bricking my phone?

Umm. I used modaco ages ago (about 7 months or so), but I don't really know what it's like these days.
I am actually one of the devs of VillainROM, so not really in any place to give a totally unbiased answer.
Basically, it depends on what you are after. If you are looking for the fastest ROM possible, then something like the new SuperHero, which we will be releasing in the next day or so, might be up your street. It's a cross between stock 'eclair android' and some little bits of HTC sense. So it has the speed of vanilla, with the little niceities of Sense.
If you're after a totally Vanilla ROM, there are some of them around too, often based on CyanogenMod. Look for the terms AOSP and Vanilla if you want one of these. Be aware they might lack some of the features you are used to currently, since HTC does add a fair bit of stuff on top of Android.
For the pure HTC Sense ROM, there are a good number of them out too, although I have to confess I have completely lost track of which ones are out there. There's one from 42turkeys I think, and modaco and cronos etc. although I can't really recommend any of them as I haven't used them.
If you are after the 'perfected theme', there's a VillainROM theme from petsasj over on www.villainrom.co.uk that finishes off some of the aesthetics of the ROM, as there are some little imperfections in HTC's release. If you pop over to the IRC channel (link on the homepage), someone will be able to answer any detailed questions you have with ROM etc.

Right. Bricking... Well, so long as you don't do anything stupid with your phone, like pulling battery, you should be fine. If you want someone to guide you through the process or answer any questions you have, pop onto the IRC i mentioned.
So long as you are careful, and follow the instructions to the letter, you should be absolutely fine
VillainROM has a few little extra kernels etc. and a couple of fixes on the Over-the-air updater app that might help you get some better performance and battery life too
Just ask if you need help
wow alot to think about, hmmm well, i like fast, but asthetics arnt a big matter to be honest, i just want it to run well. just another quick query, if i have to send it off for warrenty or anything i can revert back to stock yes?

Course Pop in the goldcard and then use the RUU (stock HTC ROM exe file) to restore back to the the factory condition
Fast is good for me too VR10.3 with ninpo's BFS kernel and 729MHz Overclock is good enough for me
im sure im gonna go with a villain rom as it has one of the clearest guides i have seen, plus i have the sdk and that stuff for the gold card thing. when is superhero out then seen as that is the fastest? gonna read it through a couple more times aswell so that i can really get to grips with what to do =]

The link isn't working for me either but I don't know anyone who has used the 'one click' methods.
I highly recomend BTDAG's guide linked in my sig (its the same guide as on Villain site) , you will get support if there is something you don't understand or if something unexpected happens. Read the whole thing through 1st, then start from the top.
arrgghh, just annoyed, cus it was working earlier. oh well. and yeah, will just have to follow the other one. i just liked the idea of a one click method. cheers =]
Quick mention, I believe I had the same phone as you T-Mobile_G2_Touch? The guide in my sig was created using the G2, if it helps
p.s. I advise using an XP machine, drivers for Windows 7 are a *****.

Can you guys still recommend this device?

I'm still using an htc inspire, and I've tried att latest and greatest like the note and one x and they haven't been perfect or lack of Rom support that made me run. I just want to be able to flash cm 7 or 9 roms, any other roms I may wish and this att device dev support seems to be going strong. This device is probably considered older now and with the sgs3 coming soon, well by the time it reaches att who knows. Does this device lag with its older processor??

One word. Yes.
The device is amazing, I highly reccomend.
What answer do you really expect us to give you other than "yes"? Do you really think people in this forum is going to tell you no? Sounds to me like you already made up your mind to get this phone if you didnt like the Note or the OneX.
How about bln support, is that compatible with most roms? Say cm custom builds whether built in or not?

I would absolutely recommend this device. It may be considered last year's technology, but the dual core Exynos is still a great processor. The phone doesn't lag on stock firmware, and on the better custom firmwares, it flies. Rom support is unparalleled for a US based phone, partially because of the commonality between the i777 and the international i9100.
It is true that the S3 is on the horizon, but I would honestly rather have my S2 than that monstrosity.

Sort of. I'm running AOKP right now, which is a purely Google-based rom, and BLN works flawlessly for me(with the right kernel, of course). However, if you run a Samsung based rom, BLN will not natively work for SMS messages. There are workarounds using Tasker profiles, but theyre usually pretty sketchy. Short answer...yes, if you're running the right rom and kernel, BLN is supported.

Not a deal breaker but a handy feature when you lack an led notification light, I'm using the BlackICE Rom which uses it.

BLN can be pretty important to some people. I came from a BlackBerry, so it's almost essential to me to be able to see if I have a text from across the room.
Yes, I still like this phone. Hell the original Galaxy S is still going strong development wise and this one should do the same.

I miss the keyboard too. It was the one thing that made me choose a BlackBerry over an iPhone four years ago. I still hate the iPhone keyboard because of the lack of haptic feedback and the complete lack of customization options. Android is better though...with so many options for keyboards and setups, it almost makes up for not having physically keys...but I still miss them occasionally.

Honestly? Out of the box, the OneX works great. Even though the bootloader is currently locked, the phone works just fine the way it is and nothing really needs to be added to it. However, the OneX does have root and so you can install customs roms, just nor kernels or radios. Several tweaks, mods and roms have been created and flashes successfully.
On the flipside, the GSII is completely unlocked and there are several rom/kernel choices. There is some of the best Dev work done on XDA right here in this forum, so if your really interested in Dev support and choices, this is the phone to get.
Both phones are great. You just have to look at hardware specs, Dev support and see which road you want to take.
A yes from me as well.
For future, up-coming device such sgs3, if it will be released next week or two, then it might worth waiting but in this case, just a rumor, no officially released date yet, it could be months from now and even if released, what happen if it gets locked bootloader? It's not worth waiting if you're ROM-flashaholics.

Oh geez, I'm so behind, honestly I don't have time looking elsewhere but the i777 , thanks m8
I picked up the SGSII a month ago and absolutely love it. A huge upgrade from the previous generation (captivate).
I suspect that, much like desktop computers, going from one to two cores is significant, but you get diminishing returns after that.
Only downside is if you want true 4G. I spend so much time with wifi that I don't care.

I'm definitely taking the dev support road. Thanks.
One of my last concerns is battery life. More of it having to do with charging time. I think I remember with the stock Rom charging times were slow from a wall charger if I remember reading this. Have charging times improved with custom roms/kernels?
I think Samsung devices in general have a bad rep with charging times?
I haven't seen any issues with charge times, but my expectations may be low. I have not timed it, but I would estimate under 3 hours to charge from less than 20% to full.

Can we fix all the camera issues with JB/ICS with the release of the atrix HD

The Atrix Hd has been released for ATT and the Electrify has been released for US Cellular. Both of these phones have been given ICS in the stock form, i don't know about the boot loader but my thought is that with them both being Motorola and both of them being close to the photon, if we were to get a dump from one of them if not both of them we would be able to get the drivers and everything else that we would need to make all of the custom roms that are having camera issues and stuff get fixed. Has anyone taken a look at them and seen if we can use them?

Yeah, we could probably benefit from that. Though i have a feeling joker and bill are already aware. But perhaps not.
I just pmed bill about it. We will see what happens.
Would be nice really .
Motorola seems so reluctant to help out photon users
Really they haven't fixed anything significant in past few months.

there has to be a way we can get the drivers and stuff if Motorola isn't going to update us to ics any time soon. Hopefully if the two phones i posted don't work maybe the grand x can do the trick . I just hope the developers get a chance to take a look at one of those phones and see what they can pull from them

According to Bill, he and Joker tried to implement the Grand X libs before but had trouble doing so. He informed me he was going to take a second look at it when it comes back from vacation. That phone seems to be our best bet at the moment. It's probably a lost cause though, unless Moto backs out for whatever reason those ICS drivers should be dropping for the Atrix very very soon.

Regarding The Upcoming ICS update ....

well a couple of weeks ago i asked this question and i was comparing things between some devices and thank you guys you helped me figure a lot of things out and i finally decided that iam getting the atrix 4g no doubt it's an awesome super powerful phone but how bad is it to buy an outdated phone " almost 1.5 years old " ? and i also wanted to know if there is any chance that Motorola will abandon releasing the ics update ? !! beacuse as bad as i wanna wait for the update to come out before i buy the device i can't soo if you told me that it's 100% sure the the update is coming out iam buying the phone next week ... and some thing ealse i wanted to clarify i read on the motorolla website that the update coming in Q3 2012 is just for at&t and i live in egypt so obviously there is no at&t here and from what i understand i won't be able to update OTA and i just wanted to know what will be the availlable options for me then to update rather than waitng for the international update which has no specified date yet ? !!! and something more does the Atrix 4g has any common hardware problems as i'll be bootloader unlocking my phone maybe 2 weeks after i get it ( i mean because of voiding the warranty and this stuff ) ?
and thank i guys again in advance u rock :good:
You need to search around a bit more next time. These answers are relatively easy to find:
-I think the general consensus is that people here are happy with their phones but if you can spend more to get a phone with better specs, not potentially have a problem buying an Atrix with a locked bootloader, not have to deal with a company like nvidia, etc. then you might want to look elsewhere.
-There is NO proof that Motorola WON'T release ICS. There are still several other phones that fall in the Q3 schedule that also haven't been updated and we're still in Q3. Even if there's a small chance it won't be released, there's still the chance that drivers from other phones can be used to stabilize an Atrix rom.
-If you're already talking about unlocking the bootloader then you should know by now that OTA is completely irrelevant. You can flash the update as you would any other rom.
-Digitizer and wifi/bluetooth issues seem to be the biggest hardware problems. Unlocking a bootloader on any phone will void the warranty, but it's been the experience of many people that Motorola will still repair phones under warranty anyway. Every you decision you make, from buying a phone to crossing the street, is at your own risk.

The common belief is that nvidia is the one holding up the drivers for Moto to use for ICS.
You'll probably find a few other threads (in fact, there's another one right on this page) where people will compare phone XYZ to the Atrix so you can see the benefits and disadvantages. It all depends on which specific phone you're comparing, as well as what exactly you need from your phone. Like anything else, this phone has several things few or no other phones have but also might fall short (screen, processor speed, etc.) in others. It's up to you to figure out what you need.
The good thing is that this community is surprisingly active, even for a phone that came out last year.
I'm not gonna quote all of that, but once AT&T releases ICS then EVERYONE will have it on CM9/10.
We only want ICS for the drivers to put into CM, and other custom ROMS. Trust me nobody here wants stock bloat...

I have Epinter's unofficial CM10 running on my Atrix 4G, the only reason I'm still anticipating the official ICS update is for the driver developers can use to get hardware acceleration working on CM10 :crying:

Salam Mahdi,
That is the old update to ICS that we already have. There is no need to update as everyone is on the latest firmware anyway. HTC is never going to update the Amaze. It's long dead. RIP. You know it's dead when it's completely removed from HTC's main website. :crying:
Also, HTC only has 100 people creating updates to HTC Sense. No wonder it takes forever. A lot of staff also QUIT HTC, it's a doomed company.
Also, the general rule of software updates is to NEVER UPDATE WHEN ROOTED!!!! You might brick your device or break something. Whenever something gets updated developers pick apart the update and just make it flashable for us. If you wanted to update something you would have to unroot, re-lock and then flash a RUU to get back to complete stock. Then you'd have to update manually. But there is no need as this phone is at the latest firmware.
Did you fix your random reboots yet???

No problem.
It's actually "you're" and not "u're" lol.
Using the word "you" instead of "u" sounds more professional.
I think the Amaze is on it's deathbed now. It never was a famous device to begin with, nor did it last. It still lived up to it's name, it was on par with the One S (except the One S had a more up-to-date chip at the time). It was HTC's putrid attempt to fix the Sensation's RAM issues by releasing a new device, but they killed both the Sensation and the Amaze in a few short months! This is why HTC is stupid in my opinion and suffers financially. If HTC cared about their users they would at least give us and Sensation owners stock 4.1.2 Jellybean like Samsung did in the Galaxy S III I think you should upgrade to a better phone when you have money. :good:
I'm going to develop for the Amaze again when the ION kernel comes out (maybe it won't even come out cause everyone is too busy  ).
But time will tell what will happen. There have been all sorts of crazy things in our forum.

Yes it's on 3.2 now. It's as stable as a BOULDER! There is not much left to do to that ROM. I might bake something later when I get time. It's a nice stable stock-look ROM to always fall back on.

Thanks SuperAfnan.
I appreciate Your work for the Amaze. I thinks it has a powerful hardware and it should be updated by htc. but htc left alone us and now we just have you developers you're (:laugh our only hope, because we cannot afford for new phone
Edit: is there any links to vote for updating amaze?

The problem is that HTC doesn't care, and Qualcomm doesn't support the chipset any longer!
Luckily, an ION kernel from a dev like Sportsstar (there's others working on it too!) would let us port Sense 5 or Sense 4! And JB Sense 4.5. That would be the rebirth of the Amaze. Until then, we're in a sinking hole.
thank you guys, you'll find a way, i know it
