If you want a stock like experience then GeeWiz is probably what you want. If you want cutting edge then AOKP is probably the best non-Touchwiz Rom.

Make sure you're on CWM fixed for CM7
MAKE A NANDROID
wipe data/factory reset in recovery
flash ROM if you're on ICS, if not flash this THS build 2 first
flash Gapps
reboot

No worries. I started porting for miuiandroid starting last week because the Fascinate build on MIUI.us seems to be kinda fading. Andmer did an awesome job with it, but now he's not porting it anymore and the ports have been delayed a bit and there's really no telling who's going to port it from week to week or if there's even going to be a port. I think Dfgas is taking over, but I'm not 100% sure. I didn't want to start any conflicts on MIUI.us because those guys are awesome, so I figured I'd port it on miuiandroid to guarantee that there's always a current Fascinate port.
Awesome, downloading now.

I just downloaded 1.11.4 from miui.us this past week and I was waiting for .11
what is the difference between that one at miui.us, and the ones from miuiandriod exactly? You mention port, but isn't it being ported to the fascinate at miui.us?
Flashed, everything seems to work great. Recovery reboot option really isn't an issue at all especially since JT fixed 3-button, not to mention all the other ways to get to recovery.

Yep. Flashed and looking good here. QuickBoot from market (free) is also a good alternative for booting to recovery. (I bought the pro version way back in the day...)
Did notice that Google+ was pre-installed. That's not going to mess with updates, is it?

Surprised I didn't see it in the zip. I usually go in and remove the "new" market and updater and put the old market, compass and DSP manager in as well as the ICS bootani. Totally didn't see the Google+ app. No big, though. So long as the app updates, I couldn't care less where it resides.
Update: Quick Boot doesn't work to reboot into recovery. Using Glitch, so 3-finger is out. Rom Manager works though, so it's do-able.
Thanks again.
Hello everyone,
I've been using normal andriod with touchwiz for about a year now and Im really in the mood for something new. I've been reading up on ics but was dissapointed to hear that the ui hardly changes due to touchwiz.
So I've been reading up on ROMS and the whole development thing and i'm now contemplating trying to install one. From a lot of reactions it sounds really exciting though I also read that a lot can go wrong.
So I've been thinking about ressurection remix and have been watching those movies at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854
I have a few questions about it, perhaps someone who installed it can explain.
First question, there is a guide to install a rom and a guide to install a kernel, but in the movie the guy says that the rom comes with the kernel preinstalled. So why is there a guide for the kernel then? Do i need to install a seperate kernel at the end for the ultimate experience or can i just ignore that part?
I can save my apps with titanium backup right? Does it save all the settings in apps too or only the apps themselves?
Any other tips/advice for a beginner or should i just try the guide on that site and see if me and my phone survives?
Thanks in advance.
If the kernel come preinstalled you needn't worry about flashing another kernel, but I'd recommend checking out a few different kernels to see which one suites your needs.
Titanium backup backs up the app and the apps data.
Extra advice: make a full backup with CWM!
If you're not happy with that ROM, check out MIUI, it has plenty of themes, including ICS.

Ok guys I want very solid but the problem I have is that the explenation im trying to carefully follow on here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854
.. is for 9.7. Now I was planning to follow that step by step and there is a 9.6 file to download but is there a explenation for that too? for example i dont see gaps for remix and gapsfixer (or i dont need that for this 9.6?) anything else thats different for this installation?
Final question this 1.0 version you speak of is it worth just waiting for that or will that take too long (or might the difference be too small?).
Hi,
I've been using V9.7 for a week and everything works for me.
If i remember : yes you need a "gapps.zip" and a "gappsfixer.zip" for V9.6.
You've to follow the same setps (as for V9.7) :
- install V9.6 Remix
- install gapps
- install gappsfixer
- dalvik cache
- and then reboot
V1.0 is gonna be based on the official ics. So its def something to get when it comes out.
He has said its gonna take 7-10 days though
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
And i believe the gaps are the same for every rom.

http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s2/
And it installs the zerglings it seems but after reboot i do not get a superuser.
The post you follow says : if "not" retry again step 10...so you have to do it again...

after installing the 3 files above in that order .. isnt it
- wipe cache
- enter "advanced" on menu .. then
- wipe dalvik cache
- fix permissions
I've noticed they omitted the fix permissions part on 9.7?? but I still did it
Also I agree v9.6 is more stable without the display errors of white on white and black on black text, plus you can install LPJ kernel on v9.6 (i'd try Siyah's not the one on westcrip's rom page)
I'm using Siyah without any problems.. no fc's
I think if you install Siyah's after you've freshly installed 9.6 may have something to do with it not causing fc's .. don't know why tho?..

Currently being worked on for latest nightly.

I tried this a couple days back, I believe I'm the person you are referring to by saying it wasnt working on the Touchpad. I asked the dev and he is looking into it.
I'm trying to fix the installer and I will look into it later today.
I also set up my homescreens, but the thing is that the icons don't align properly and they end up looking bad. I tried it in ADW Ex too as the dev says it works best, but it still didn't work.

So this does work...I just installed it on my touchpad and I was running it with no problem. If you go to the dev's website it tells you to flash your rom again, which wont make you loose any apps, and then flash the first package on the website setup. It will flash and work....now the only problem I have is actually putting the widgets on the homescreen. When I try to move them next to each other horizontally, they overlap :/ But the process on the website does work ^_^

Hmm...I'm using a nightly build. I'd have to check which one I'm specifically using when I get home, but I got the error during the initial flash. I then re-flashed the CM9 nightly rom....and then the first zip package for the MetroUI setup. I didn't restart or anything...I did the ROM flash and then the zip flash. I'll take some screen shots as soon as I get home today.
won't work on AOKP milestone 4 and cherrykang, works on the cm9 nightly.
edit: i have managed to work it all out. ADW Ex launcher has a few limitations in that it won't align the tiles perfectly, anybody know how to sort that?

If you can't find an answer in Q&A that's why you start a new thread in Q&A to ask the question. Threads and responses in the Dev area should be to help a dev or release work you have done yourself. But to do you a solid the easiest solution to your problem is to use desktop Odin and flash the bootloader file under the BOOTLOADER option.

1.The number of home screens is almost always double the number selected.
2.Wallpaper issue from 4.1.2 still isn't fixed.
3.Feeles a lot slower than the 4.1.2.
4.Panorama force closes.
5.No photosphere.
This is the only bugs I have noticed as of now. But still I'm glad that our beloved tab got this update in the first place!
Thanks a lot pershoot! Great job! Looking forward to more fixes in future releases

I didn't create a new one as this one was already running (although in the wrong forum at the time) Thanks for the tip about desktop Odin, I was hoping to use mobile Odin as my laptop isn't setup with any tools at the moment. I didn't need to flash anything anyway, I remembered that I bought my Tab in the USA so it already had it.
So far running good with the Rom, I'm really liking the new UI as it means I make less mistakes when typing as the notifications are now at the top of the screen. The keyboard issue is annoying but I had the same problem in CM10

I´ve formatted everything and start from the beginning. After this I noticed that, I´m still have to go through a folder called 0/ before I can see all my content in the phone.
The problem is still there but i only have 1 folder and not 5 like before.

That is normal for 10.1 due to multi user capability. Pershoot's thread has called that out already guys. You may get better support in there....
