It seems that Samsung Dive only works on my sgs2 when either the wifi or the network data mode is enabled on the device. What's worse is that if the "Wireless Networks / View Location in Maps" option is disabled, it will ask to be enabled while tracking the device.
Practically making Samsung Dive uesless.
Is there a fix for this? I've flashed a few ROMs but I'm back on stock, I never had this problem before flashing ROMs. Thanks.

I'm curious how you expect it to work without some kind of data connection.
Regarding your point about being asked for permission, if on KK5 at least, if you freeze the Network Location apk (com.google.android.location), the prompt does not appear and it does not seem to inhibit your ability to use GPS correctly.

Sorry if I made myself unclear, what I mean is that the user has to manually enable wifi or 3g to be able to use SD. So if the phone is lost, there's nobody there to enable 3g/wifi, so SD won't work.
You weren't unclear. How would you like it to communicate with the phone with no data connection?

Before I flashed ROMs SD would activate my 3g (when it was already off), then activate my wireless networks / location option, ten activate my GPS, then find my device. But now all it does is sits there, trying to connect, until i manually enable wifi or 3g, which it will then ask me to enable my wireless netoworks / location, and then it doesn't do anyting.
OP, you make no sense. You didn't answer to oinkylicious's question: how can SD reach your phone if it can't connect to it? It's almost impossible, so yes, someone has to be there to enable data or wifi. It was always like this and it will always be like this with the current technology .
About manually activating the tracking system, I also have my doubts. I only tried this several months ago, but then it showed my location without asking me to enable tracking. I'm on CM7 now, so I can't test it.
Alternatives: theft aware can do the same thing (now quite good, but it works) via SMS. You just send the code to your phone, and it gives you the location.

You still haven't answered my question. Also, could you provide some proof that this works on the other phone with all forms of data turned off, as it intuiges me.
If it works on an older ROM, revert until "fixed". If it doesn't, use an app controlled via SMS.

Yeah I use theft aware, but you can get it free with the avast antivirus app. It's controlled by texts, and it has a lot more features than dive, wipe protection, etc.

Avast anti-theft is really nice. I'm using it also, but it's still beta, and has some serious bugs sometimes.
So back to your original question, I think we can call it BUSTED. There's no way for Samsung to activate data connection on your phone if it's turned off manually
Hi,
I like the default data toggle widget and I use it a lot. But there is a problem - when I enable the network data, there appear a big message - "Allow data traffic? .....".
It annoys me, as I see it at least 5 times per day. Is there any way to disable it ? I am even ready to root the device for that
P.S. Yep, I know that there are other alternatives on the market but this is the last way I would count on.
Thank you in advance.

If I'm correct, the message isn't from the widget, but from the native android. It's there to warn user that enabling will cost you money.
I don't think you can disable that unless (not sure yet) you touch something in the system (of course, rooted for that).
well I wish we could! It's driving me insane, having to click the damn thing everytime. I KNOW it's going to cost me money to use teh data connection, I have an internet plan thank you very much.
That and the "Oh noez you switched data off!" notification on statusbar are annoying the hell out of me.
So, I rooted the device. Can anyone give me a hint how to remove this message ?

Most annoying for me is the GPS warning one Never had it before on my Desire.
Even when using a Sony Smarttag to automate the turning on of the GPS you still get the warning dialogue. Annoying as hell.
Those warnings annoy me too! I wish I could get rid of them... And they do pose a problem if I want to automate tasks, what were Sony thinking of???
They should add an option "Don't remember again" when that message appears.
It's ok to advice you the first time you turn on Data, but is necesary to say the same thing five times a day?
If you add to your phone the notification toggles, the message will not appear if you turn on/off data from there. (With 2011 Xperia was so)
I can understand why someone would turn off data, but why turn off GPS? As long as you don't have an app open that actually uses GPS, it doesn't do anything.
I personally NEVER turn off GPS, Data, NFC, ... The only switcher I ever use is WiFi.
If your rooted you can freeze certain apps...I found you can disable the unsupported headphones notification by freezing the following app:
com.sonyericsson.unsupportedheadsetnotifier
Theres probably one on there that causes the notifications for 3G data toggle, but I've not found it so far yet.
And yes, I do agree that the notifications are a tad annoying!
I've added a small application widget to android market. It allows to switch on/off network data without any notifications. Please help me test it

Just tried it and you do not get a message for turning data on.
Enabling GPS still gives a message. This annoys the hell out of me because their advert for smart tags clearly shows this as a use case.

If you find you need more tags, or your want some cheap ones you can stick to things (including ones designed to be stuck to metal), just buy blank ones (about 60p each) and use my new app for turning them into Xperia SmartTags

about the network problem, i doubt so, because before i was using different provider and had same problem.
I had the same issue once (although I was on custom rom, not stock) and I only find one way to fix it. Restoring all firm with companion (I don't matter the user data) and then I tried 3G download with stock firm, and worked fine.

OK this WORKED!
i think its the ultimate solution.
Ok so here i think how it is...
When you insert a sim, OS itself configures to be available for mobile internet services, but it is not accurate. Even it settings i had provider settings i wasnt able to download larger files from Market. So even i thought it wount help, i gone to my service provider website and checked for settings. I sent SMS with text required to get settings via SMS, it said my phone doesnt need that and doesnt fit, and im doing at my own risk this and not only that. Even in website i checked that my phone automaticly configures own correct settings. But it was false. I got the settings even they adviced not to use because they are for older phones only and the result is great, now i can download the files from the market!
So i think first thing to do when such thing happens, to check internet settings with the ones provided by service provider to see if everything matching
Just received my S4 and setup my Wi-Fi on it so I don't blow through my Data.
When I am connected to my Wi-Fi it shows both 4G and Wi-Fi on the top of the phone as if it is using both 4G and Wi-Fi.
Can others please check their phones to see if when you are connected if you are seeing Wi-Fi and 4Gor 3G showing at the same time?
Can't exchange the phone yet because the stores don't have them yet

Both WiFi & 4G are shown in the status bar when I am conencted to WiFi. However, if you watch the icons when using an app such as the browser, you'll notice only the orange & green arrows under the WiFi icon show data usage.

Check and see if you have any Verizon Apps running in the background. For example I *think* the My Verizon Mobile App only uses the VzW network when it is on.
Yes mine does this as well. As far as I can tell it's normal behavior. My Galaxy Nexus never did it, but my wife's Droid RAZR does it.

Some people have the same issue as me others don't. Where was your phone manufactured? Mine was made in China.
Mine was made in China.
I also have general wifi issues. The wifi is extremely weak. If I go upstairs away from my router the speed drops way way down. Also while all my other devices can see a bunch of other wifi networks in my area, my S4 can only see mine.
Mine is now showing the 4G icon while connected to wifi as well. It's odd because when I first turned on and activated the phone this didn't happen. Over the course of getting the phone setup this issue popped up.
Mine phone doesn't show 4G while on wifi.
Strange how some people show both while others don't. Do you think it is something we should bring to Verizon's attention or possible return the phone? The point of WiFi is so I keep my data charges down and when I see both Icons on I assume I am using both.
Curious to see where everyone's was manufactured, Mine was made in China and it has the issue.

If you turn caller ID off will that stop normal caller ID from working on the phone?
Do you need to enable data roaming to get a connection even in your home network? If so, you probably know the hassle this causes when you travel abroad, or live near the border where your phone can sometimes log into another network. You have to disable data roaming every time, and if you forget, you'll get an unpleasant surprise on your next phone bill.
Maybe you know CyanogenMod's "National Roaming" feature that enables roaming only in your home country, so you don't have to disable roaming manually when you leave the country. I've used this in the past and got used to it, so much that having to live without it would annoy me a lot.
Since I just got a new phone for which CyanogenMod isn't available, I wrote an Xposed module which mimics this feature. My new phone happens to be an MTK6589 dual SIM device (Tronsmart TS7), so I also added support for the dual SIM modifications MediaTek made.
It's in a very early stage and mostly untested. It "works" insofar as the roaming icon is gone and I get a data connection without enabling roaming. I don't know if it properly detects when you're really roaming. It should, but I can't test it for now since I don't live near the border and don't have a working foreign SIM. If somebody could test whether it actually works, that would be greatly appreciated!
Requirements:
Xposed Framework
It *should* work on any Android version Xposed runs on, but so far I've only tested it on my TS7's stock 4.2.1.
Play Store?
I intend to publish it there as well, but only after it has been a bit more thoroughly tested and enough people reported that it works and doesn't cause any issues.
Source code:
https://github.com/leromarinvit/NationalRoaming
Version history (old versions here):
v0.2 - 2013-08-29 - fix Android 4.3 compatibility
v0.1 - 2013-08-25 - initial release
Technical details:
The module works by hooking pollStateDone() in com.android.internal.telephony.gsm.GsmServiceStateTracker. This function notifies listeners when the roaming state changes. So to fake the roaming state everything else sees, we only have to change it before this function is called. The logic is simple: We're roaming if and only if the MCC (mobile country code - first three digits of the numeric operator id) stored on the SIM and provided by the network differ.
In the past, I've manually patched framework.jar for some ROMs for my device and some others, by modifying isRoamingBetweenOperators()* to follow the same logic as this module. With Xposed available now, writing this as a module seems like a much cleaner solution that will work on many more devices than one could reasonably maintain manually, and with much less effort.
* I initially tried to hook this function with Xposed. However, this didn't work, because while the function exists in MediaTek's stock ROM, it never seems to be called.
I tried you module, but it doesn't work for me. I still have to enable "roaming" to get a data connection. The app "phono" shows "roaming" if I use a national roaming provider.
My network operator is "three austria", using only 3G (UMTS) networks but allows national roaming on the 2G network of "t-mobile austria". My phone is a Nexus 4 with stock rom (Android 4.3) , the XPosed framework works for XPrivacy, MaDaCo Toolkit and NFC LockScreenOff Enabler.
Can I help to find a solution?
Edit: Thanks for your dev version, works great for me now.

Yes, for me its works perfect.
I have national roaming, and the "R" sign is gone -> so i can switch off the data roaming, which is much safer....
Thanks again.
I'm living in Austria using Hutchinsons Network "3". Yesterday I tested your module near the Czech Republic and it works perfect!
With data roaming disabled data transfer in the czech network did not work (as expected) but swiching between "3"'s austrian 2G-networks works fine.
Congratulation, great work. Let us know when we can find your program in google's play store.

This app might prove useful to me when I visit my home country in a few months.
Many thanks, it's suppose to working fine in my MTK6589 device, roaming R sign is gone, I will report some more results after a week when I am roaming in other state.

You can't receive incoming calls any more? This definitely shouldn't happen, and is a major bug. Thanks for catching this! Does the problem go away when you disable National Roaming or Xposed?

So you have a Korean SIM, but are currently in Vietnam, right? Which provider are you roaming on, do you know which technology it uses (GSM/UMTS or CDMA)? CDMA could potentially be a problem with the current implementation. But the most important question is still: Does the problem go away if you disable National Roaming?
