Well, the new / upgraded iPhone has been announced. All I can say is I'm glad I didn't wait for the iPhone 4S and went with the unlocked SGS II. I can't believe they didn't upgrade the screen size!
Here is a run down of the specs:

SGSII win!!
What a huge let down, samsung is releasing tons of sgs2 varients(att/tmo/sprint/intl/lte/hd lte/note/prime) while apple simply upgrades the soc and camera after all this time and says its new and magical.
Screen size
Micro SDXC 64GB+
MKV + others
drag n drop media/files
Better Customization
This is what's lacking for me to even consider changing sgs 2

No offence to the OP but YET ANOTHER damn iPhone thread on XDA there must be at least 10 already doing the rounds on the various forums
In a nutshell as ive already said i will never purchase anything Apple related regardless of the specs while they are "closed" and not open source.
..........
just been reading the article on MSN news about the the release and it has a 'APPARENTLY' new feature called the siri double tapping the home button and you can him/her whatever that is,a question... a simpler version was already implemented into sgs2 (vingo) and with all the sueing battles going on between apple and samsung....shouldnt samsung sue apple for this

they just introduced the microphone button on keyboard LMFAO
they are no where near samsung
And they took the Android's roller blind notification.
Apple we're great for kicking the arse of the smartphone back in 2007, but they have fallen behind. Quite disapointing really. If they don't come up with something more "Magical" next year, they might become the new Nokia?
In graphic department the iPhone 4S wins even at a higher resolution (iPad for instance beats all other smartphone and tablets even if they have lower resolution).
Second it wins by more apps also iOS5 is pretty cool although it copied some Android features I guess. But they made it look more sexier, like the notification and widgets look alot better on iOS.
But the downside would probably be it being down clocked to either 700-800mhz since the iPad 2 is at 900Mhz.
But Samsung Galaxy S2 wins everything else
I was very close to buying a iphone 4. Thank god i went for the sgs 2. What a beast of a machine.

Lol siri was free on thr app store and now that apple bought siri its been removed from the app store and its treating it as a exlcusive selling piont.. Typical apple making u pay for something that was free and making you believe its revolutionary.. The galaxy s 2 had voice input since day one.. That site is wrong because i can tap my phone and it will do wat ever i tel it to, wether thats writing a message or navigating me to a certain place i tell it to and it does it well

I was on that boat too SG2 for president!!!!
pr0n. can close the topic now. jk
Hmmm…..
Again some people bash out against Iphone and say hallelujah to the SG2. I don’t, to neither side.
But my personal view is that Apple has created a product that attracts tens of millions of people. And I believe that the majority of the buyers of the Iphone just want a telephone simple in use, and to show to the outside world that they are trendy.
Not everyone phone users are interested in flashing and tweaking, like us reading XDA. If people want to by a quite expensive Iphone, let them do so. I have been doing it and maybe I will do it again someday, but not the 4S.
Right now there is two SG2 and one TAB 10.1 in our family. And I’m not impressed by the build quality of none of them. On the SG2’s, random boots, loose home button. And the TAB with Newtons rings that has to be put in the freezer for 5-10 minutes, as a temporary fix. Never have I been using the freezer for anything other than food and ice cubes, before now.
Well, they have been sent for repair today, and I hope the TAB shelf in the freezer can be used for other things when I get it back.
So why did I buy Samsung you ask? Well, I bought these units within 45 days and I didn’t know it would be so many problems with 3/ 3 Samsung products. But I give Samsung a chance and hope they will be okay when I get them back.
Some years ago, in a social event, I met the national sales director of a Japanese car company. After a few drinks he started bashing out on the quality of the cars on his biggest competitors.
One other person asked this sales director if he regularly test drive these competitors’ cars? The sales director hesitated a few seconds before he answered ‘Yes of course!’ . But no one believed his answer, and I think almost everyone present didn’t feel he was credible.
And neither do I, when people are bashing out on products that never have been in their hands.
Love my sgs2 but it appears graphics wise the 4gs will trump the s2, based off how well the ipad 2 performs. Not something I care about that much because I don't use it for games or graphic intensive operations, but I know some people on here will secretively wish for that kind of performance.
If those battery stats are right it looks like it will trump the s2 in that department.
Although I wouldn't personally own an iphone, mainly due to the hype being over the top, anyone denying this will challenge or beat the s2 in a few departments is in plainn denial.
A lot of iphone users had already bought the thing before knowing what the specs were... Mmmm no comment. Mind you I'm sure there are some samsung users out there that would do the same
Hmm that's pretty boring because actually nothing changed (for my kind of user at least) : iOS is still the best platform for games and ease of use, Android is still the best platform in terms of actual choice of the hardware and freedom of use. An iPhone will work the exact same way with a dual core processor, the only thing that may change is the quality of the games, which i do not care about since i don't care about gaming on a phone in general.
It's also kind of interesting to see this pathetic attempt of Apple at convincing iFans that they don't need a bigger screen, good luck with that...no wonder Apple shares dropped by a nice 4% just a couple minutes after the 4s was revealed
I don't regurgitate blog pieces as a rule, but this was kinda funny...

No, no snotty "iSheep" comment from me. I fully believe that people are the same regardless of whatever toys they buy. But this illustrates the power of marketing in influencing consumer behavior. Heck, people buy bottled water!
Who else but Apple can get people to line up days in advance for its toy launches? The other day, my 6-yr old niece came up to me and said she wants an iPad for her birthday. Shut yo mouth, girl, where did you learn that nasty 4-letter word! 10 Hail Marys for you! And no ice cream either!
Then, thinking about it, if I were to get a tablet for little tyke, an iPad would be tops on the list right now. It's a great learning tool. And $400 one-time payment for an instant babysitter is not bad.
This is what Android has to face up against. It's not just a tech thing. Kudos to Apple marketers.
Then again, I take heart in realizing that all tech co's have their wax-wane cycles. Back in the day, it was the Sony Walkman that can do no wrong. Public tastes can change quickly.
The competition is great. Let's hope Goog will rise up to the challenge. I want my $199 Nexus tab. And my $499 Win8 tab.
Kind of ironic that earlier today I read a thread where you were quoting mods about xda rules/stances/etc yet here you are creating a thread that has NOTHING to do with a prime in the PRIME forums......
And some people have no clue why they'd need a new android tab either... I mean, some ppl buy new things just because they're new. That's not just the case for apple.
>And some people have no clue why they'd need a new android tab either... I mean, some ppl buy new things just because they're new. That's not just the case for apple.
When was the last time you see people get in line for a Dell or HP or anything Android...for days in advance?
For that matter, I'm hard pressed to think of any consumer product that had caused such anticipation, where even the act of waiting in line has become an "experience."
Beanies Babies? No...no lines, IIRC. Can anyone think of an equivalent example?
So, yes, it is really just the case for Apple, at least from my limited recollection.

Justin Beiber?
Totally agree. What apple does best is marketing. Go watch some apple documentary from the 80ies on YouTube. There's one dude talking about the goals of apple and i quote:
"We want to convert people"
Guess they succeeded.
If they didn't do so much in marketing, I don't think they would be like they are now. I've said this before to people, but I just feel like the i"product" owners are brain washed by Apples Marketing techniques. Sure the iPhone and iPad and whatever have "cool" features here and there, but I'm sure if I would get bored of it.
Maybe if i STARTED with an iOS device, I would look at things differently, but since I started with an Android OS device as my real smartphone. I can't really see myself using an iOs device.
Apple people are just ignorant to the better options or f*cked up people.
I asked my co-worker why the skin on her phone had a hole on the back (was to show the Apple logo), and said it was to "advertise". Haha
They really love to show them off like they have something magical.
Anyone seen that samsung commercial where their is a huge lineup in front of a apple store and someone show up with a galaxy s2 and the guy say:
"I'm creative, I can't have a Samsung. "...
I think that is pretty much it.
The irony is that up you can't customize a iphone whitout a jailbreak and even then it is very limited...

I think its mainly just a social standpoint piece. People want others to see them with an Apple device. Some see so many going crazy over Apple products an assume that they are superior products, because they simply don't know better. Others I believe buy them for what they are, easy to use, anyone can figure it out, modern electronic devices.
My younger sister has an iPod touch (never any apps on it, just music. Any mp3 can do that), an iPad 2(very very few apps), an is getting an iPhone when her contract is up. She currently has an Android phone. I looked at it the other day an asked why she had less than 10 apps an only 1 home screen setup on a phone she's had almost 2 years. Get reply was that she isn't in to that kinda stuff. What!!?? LOL. Yet all you can talk about is wanting an iPhone an using your iPad!!!??? If all you care about is texting an placing calls, then get a Jitterbug!!! Its just a social status for her. She is 24 too.
I bought an iPod Touch 4th Gen shortly after they came out. I love having access to Apple's Appstore. They have some great apps an games that I thoroughly enjoy. I would never have an iPhone as my primary phone, Android is so so much better an so much more fun. I do have an iPhone 4 that I got from a friend. I never activated it, just use it as a second iPod basically. I've jailbroke it, customized it some, used the Cydia apps, and I just don't see how so many people love those devices. It is so much slower than my Evo 3D even before root an overclocking. Evo 3D camera sucks, my Evo 4G was better, but its better then the iPhone camera.
Apple devices get boring quick!! I feel they have 3 owner categories: social status buyers, those who don't know better, an those who want a dumbed down an easy to use smart device.....

I agree. I think for majority of iPhone 4 and Ipad owners its more of a social status thing. its like having designer clothing and wearing Jordan sneakers. people go crazy over it just so they show it off and be like hey, look at me. I'm cool too...lol. iPhone and Ipad are really good devices. But not superior like most tend to believe. Apple is just a marketing genius and their app store had a headstart. ill give apple credit for making tablets popular or making them mainstream. they didn't create the market but made it popular instead.
I'd tend to think most apple device owners like to keep up with the Jones's. if you know what i mean.

I think it's interesting how you put this: it's a "great learning tool" and an "instant babysitter." No offense meant anywhere here--I'm a parent, and I know how blissful a few minutes of peace can be.
However, I don't think tablets and smartphones and such are "great learning tools." I think they reinforce the notion that kids have today that learning has to be entertainment. I'm of an age where I remember learning math, vocab, grammar, science, etc., etc., the hard, boring way--and I'm convinced that I learned more and better skills that way. Later in life, today's kids aren't going to be entertained every second in their jobs, which is why I think so many young people today don't perform well.
I'd say that a tablet for a kid makes for a decent toy, and can definitely provide a better form of entertainment than TV. But I would never call it a "great learning tool." And, if I were to get my son a tablet, it would be an Android tablet--at least that way he can learn to explore a device and devise ways to make it fit his needs, even how to dig into something and modify it, like rooting and such (which is why I think a $149 Nexus tablet would be EXCELLENT).

Here's what I think: Apple seems to be eating into their profit margins with the iPad. This will only get worse as lower-priced (and higher-quality) Android tablets continue to hit the market. Since it's such a huge portion of their overall profits that have been driving their stock price, any reduction will have an impact going forward.
I think a $149 (or even $199) Google Nexus tablet of any decent quality and marketed well could be a killer. They WILL eat into Apple's market share, and Apple will be forced to either come out with a lower-priced iPad (thus destroying their place at the top and validating lower-cost products), and/or continue to eat into their margins.
Bottom line: I think we could see Apple's stock price drop considerably over the next few years. And as that happens, they'll stop getting all of the attention from the media. The same cycle of hype driving stock price driving hype driving stock price could reverse pretty quickly. All that depends on Google doing some smart things, of course, and there's absolutely no guarantee that they will.

Apple made a mistake going with a hi res screen, making a heavier and thicker tablet. On a 9.7" tablet, the better screen is not that noticeable. I saw the thing at the store. basically an overkill. Heavier and thicker is a big step backward. Apple wasted a year and an upgrade. I'm not gonna upgrade my wife's ipad2. I'm so tired of columnists praising the new ipad. I hope there are more article like this on cnet , speaking the truth (that the better screen isn't that different).

Maybe they just want a tablet which works out of the box? And they think "Well, the $100 doesn't matter to me if I get a better screen and newer iPad". Android is great for people who want to change things on their tablet, but not for people who just want it to work.

Sure, you will not notice the screen is better but will notice it is a full 0,6 mm thicker and 50 grams heavier.. I mean come on, the first minute you will notice it is heavier (not even it is thinker) and then it isn't noticeable anymore.

there's actually more and more of those articles popping up. that people actually can't even tell the difference between the two displays side by side.
plus I did a little test of sorts last night. using opera browser I was looking at the font. I have good vision so it all looks clear to me. then I zoomed it up to the Max. the font still looks very clear and no jagged edges or anything. plus I can't see any pixels or whatever.
IMO, this shot looks clean as a mofo. so for me, the higher screen resolution is a bonus, but by far is needed. I came from an ipad1 resolution to the Prime 1280x800 resolution. now that's a bigger difference in clarity and why I think Prime has a great display itself.

I'm pretty sure it took me a week to find a sprint store with my Evo 3D. Sure, there weren't massive lines but for how hard it was to get one, sure seemed that way.
Also, Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3 and XBox 360 all had massive lines. Apple isn't the only one. I remember seeing on the news that people were getting get shot for a Wii. Don't think I've heard of someone being shot for an iPad/iPhone.

http://www.lockergnome.com/android/2011/12/26/five-reasons-to-choose-android-over-ios/
If XDA has never let you down then I'll assume you've actually perused the forums previously. If that's the case you should know the benefits of Android over iOS in most cases and the few instances in which iOS is better. If you can't make a decision based upon that then no words offered here will help you. Happy trolling.
iOS is made of junk. Both hardware and software. If you buy an iPhone take care to "hold it the right way".
stick with android, also, your on an android forum, so the reviews will be biased.
i have had both, and android phones are better.
I develop for both Android and iOS so I'll would hope I'm not biased towards one of the other.
In my experience, development on iOS is easier. The tools you get with XCode are far superior than Android/Eclipse especially when it comes to building your User Interface.
Downside with iOS is that it requires you to buy a Mac and then to spend the time learning Objective-C. For most Java developers, Android is just another library so the learning curve is lower.
Brian
Android without question.
No explanation required. lol
Every things better with Android!! With and android if you don't like some thing you can change it but with IOS you stuck with it weather you like it or not. Plus the custom roms on android is what IOS users dream of.
I've personally owned numerous iOS devices as they progressed and I have owned numerous Android devices as they, too, have progressed. I was also, for a decently long time, a heavy iPhone fan. I can say that iPhone will have Android beat in some cases (depending on what devices you compare), but if you compare both iOS and Android top-of-the-line devices, Android wins, hands down. The product is of better quality, the OS is as simple or as complex as you want to get, the specs are better, and the freedom is outrageously more substantial. With iOS, it is simple, it is more integrated, but it just isn't as great as the customization, enhancement, and freedom that android offers.
Android offers freedom, fun, and customization, whilst maintaining simplicity.
iPhone offers simplicity.
Its still ultimately your call, but I'm gonna side with Android. (This, coming from an old iPhone die-hard.)

and if you go to an iOS forum, they will tell you to stick with iOS,so,its up to you
Here is a side-by-side comparison I captured from Wirefly. It compares the iPhone 4S to the Hottest Androids right now and then it compares the 3GS to several free Androids.
Sorry about the size. They needed to be big to read.
First
iPhone 4S versus hot Android phones.
Then 3GS versus several free Android phones.
It's The Same Thing... In The End, Your Gonna Make Calls, Texts, And Download Apps.
If you go android don't go cheap to compete with the like of the iPhone you have to have the best ..if you go cheap then you are likely to have freeze ups and etc then complain about how you hate android when in actuality its not android its the hardware and the manufacturers customization to the software..so I suggest you start with the elite in the android world as a start ..also iPhone is nice I'm not going to lie..but its limited by a lot so the only thing cool is the apps but who cares android has all the same apps ...iOS is sort of customizable if you jailbreak it but nowhere near as much as android also sometimes to me when jail broken and all of the stuff you do to customize it Iphones seem less stable ..in the end its really up to you simple and straight forward (iPhone)...or simple as you want it to be (android)

Apple is a patent troll that wants to destroy all competition by patenting existing technology and suing others for using it. I would never buy one of their products, I'd go back to using a dumb phone if that was the only other option, and if Apple gets their way dumb phones will be the only other option.
They are both good os but Android is better. iOS is so plan and not funny has so many restrictions Android is free and wild. There are other reasons but this is the first thing I'll say.

I have a two year old son that loves to play eith my S2 and S3's phones.Im looking to get a tab and its ether gonna be Nexus or Ipad 4.If it was for me alone it would be a Nexus without a question. But i want my son to use it and as everyone knows that android really lacks good apps for children(i have tryed almost all of them),and ipad has way better apps for children.
But im going to be using it too to play emulators and movies. My question is how much worse is ipad compared to Nexus?I dont want to dish out $500 for a piece of crap that is only good for children's apps.I know there is no roms for ipad but is there any custimization like themes and deleting system apk's?
Ok to make it short, anyone here that owned both and can tell me is ipad actually that much worse the Nexus or other android tabs?

We are an Android (me) and Apple (husband) household. We have a 4 year old gadget lover. As much as it pains me to say it, there are WAY more children's apps in the Apple world Some really very nice ones. So he uses my husband's old Ipad 1 and an iPod Touch. Having said that, there is one cool thing about Android and kids. You can get some nice apps that create a sandbox on your device that keeps them in a very kidsafe environment with access to only the apps you want them to play with. No access to system settings, etc. Famigo, Kid Mode by Zoodles. iPad doesn't let you use apps like that. And with the new multi-user logins with 4.2 it makes it even easier to keep your stuff separate from kid's stuff.
I have no experience with the emulators, can't help you there. Playing movies should be fine on either device. iPad is a good piece of hardware. Very stable. If you jailbreak them you can do more customization with them, but I think there is still no jailbreak for the latest version of ios on the new iPads? I might be a touch out of date on that.

That is my impression of ios. It feels old, outdated. Even my husband is starting to make "Android is looking good" noises and has been using my old Nexus 7 more and more it seems. But, it works. It's stable.
to be honest, once the ipad is jailbroken, it's a real beast with lots of awesome tweaks, and ROm does not exist in the iOS world. also way more cool apps on the ipad. if you're new to the ipad, you will love it. But to me, the UI is extremely boring since it doesn't change at all. I favor the nexus 10.
have you considered picking up an older ipad for your son? Like an ipad2? I'm not sure how much they are going for right now, so no idea if that's reasonable. But then you could still get your Nexus Or just get him an iPod Touch for now? Those aren't that expensive.
>That is my impression of ios. It feels old, outdated.
That's the main beef against iOS, being stale. Now that Forstall (iOS ex-chief dude) got the axe and Ive bud taking over, things should get lively again. With Android's market-share munching this was inevitable anyway, with or without regime change.
@OP, why not the Mini for kiddie tyke? Cheaper, and much easier for toddler types to handle. Or Nexus 7. Frankly, for 2-yr munchkin I'd go for a cheapie like a Nook Color, slap CM on it and find some freeware doo-dads for babysit function. Handing a $500 device to somebody not even potty-trained doesn't strike me as good sense. Then again, my opinion of 2-yr bio-bombs is probably not as high as the respective parents'. Must...give...him...best...means...to...unleash...his...creative...genius. Yeah, OK.
>Or just get him an iPod Touch for now? Those aren't that expensive.
Don't look now, but...
Oh yeah! I spaced on the Mini. That would be perfect. Kinda want to get one of those for my son for Christmas... but since hubby will want an iPad 4 sometime soon... I guess he'll just get the iPad 3 hand me down eventually.

Yes i did considered ipad2 and ipad3 but they are so expansive that i might as well add $150-200 dollars and get a new one.Apple crap stays expansive eve after 2-3 years, lol.

He currently has Epic Touch 4g that i gave him after he threw it in a toilet about 6 moths ago(he past that stage now),i took it apart, dryed it out, cleaned it with alcohol and it still worked!!It worked except one minor thing, the power button does not work.I can use the power button only to turn on the phone but after that it does not work, only way to unlock the screen is to plug it in,receive a call or battery pull and restart. All this made it useless as a phone but its still good as a toy because it just stays on all the time.
He just got borred with all these childrens apps on android because they are not that good.
And im not spending $500 on a tab just for him,you better believe that im gonna be using it more then him, lol.I just call it asacrifice because if it was justbfor me then i would get an android tab.Ipad has VLC and that all that matters,i just wish it had 16:9 ratio, why apple got 4.3 ratio?idk.
I guess i will get the ipad for now and wait to get an android tab until Amoled tabs become cheaper.Im a huge fan of Amoled and own Epic,Epic Touch and two GS3's-i refuse to buy a phone without amoled screen.I thought about Toshiba Excite 7.7 but the devolopment for it on xda is nonexistent.

Agreed back in my days of ingnorance when i owned iphone 3gs,there are some things you can do to speed up ios and improve the battery life like removing about 1GB of unused languges, some libraries and more.
Now that i got some theeming expirience im gonna try to theme ios. There is proboly alot of things you can do with ios like theeming but the iphone crowd probably is not tech knowledgeble enough or just dont care about things like that.
>And im not spending $500 on a tab just for him,you better believe that im gonna be using it more then him, lol.
No I get ya. It's a bonding thing, doing some common activities with kiddie tyke. Familial stuff. Back in the day, we'd get one of these and be happy with it. But times have changed I guess.

Call me counter-culture, but I would not give a tablet to a kid in the formative stage. People care so much about getting their kids' attention that they inadvertently help to make it worse, by exposing the kid to more and more distractive things. Before we have the boob tube. Now it's a portable (and interactive) boob tube, aka tablet. The Internet is a great learning tool, but it's also the worst in destroying people's ability to maintain focus. For toddlers, it's akin to handing them an MP3 player with the volume on full blast. You're helping your kid to get ADD.
OK, just one person's opinion. Why worry about some crank on the net, when we can rely on conventional wisdom, eh? I'm sure an iPad (or some tablet) is a fine learning tool. Lots of people are giving kids tablets nowaday as Xmas presents. Hey, if everybody is doing it, it must be OK, right?
But you must realize what his first online achievement will be, right? Sure, give him a couple more years, but dollars to donuts that the first thing kiddie learns will be to find a pron site. Yep, nekkid wymun is the Holy Grail. That hasn't changed, I don't think?
Yes, this crank would probably get kiddo a tablet, an Etch a Sketch. It'll teach him patience along with hand-eye coordination. And if he turns out to be the next artist extraordinaire, then he can give an indication with something like the below.
get an ipad mini for your son and a nexus 10 for you
I have the Nexus 10. You'll be bored of it, even with custom ROMs. I'm giving it to my brother and getting the iPad 4. Nexus 10 is nice and all, but just isn't there for me as a tablet.

I had an iPad 3 and loved it, but I just can't support them really. $499 tablet and 100 billion in the bank and still suing people. They could do a lot more for customers like giving us better prices but they don't and price the outdated iPad mini at 329.
No comparison. Even the thew iPad4 with iOS 6.0.1 is a dumbpad. Tried using it but it's limited and restrictive like trying to draw with an etch a sketch. Wanted to throw it against the wall.

Im with you on this.Im a fan of OSX(probably only good thing they have) and wanted Mac Mini for my htpc but all this suing and the fact that i waited for them to beef up GPU to at least 512mb so i could play Civilization 4,what did they do instead?Gave us a new mac mini without a dedicated gpu option at all.
Even the osx is not that great anymore sinse Lion,SN Leopard was solid and other osx's was good. But Lion ui looks bland and grey and they are making it more like ios.Im gonna go with windows 8,because i dont want to support them and they lack good products.
I will still get the ipad though because educational apps for my son outweigh my person needs,im sure i will have some fun with it too and see if i can at least theme ios or change ui colors.

Thats why its good for two year olds, lol.
What is even better for two year olds is not buying them apple junk. At best they will think you are financially irresponsible and not to be trusted with money matters. At worst you are giving them a giant head start into hipsterville. Apple products for children should be classified as a form of child abuse

Check out Apple's new patent.
Doesn't every phone have lockscreen shortcuts?
I mean I love how they say it's "new technology"
Apple created Adam and Eve and therefore has a patent on anything they create.
It says a new patent that allows access to apps from the iPhone lock screen specifically.
So my question is why hasn't the other manufactures already patented it? If they would have this crap wouldn't happen. Guess thats the problem with open source. Google and the patent office need to fix this. I don't care that Apple wants that for their phones but to patent something already being used is just BS.

Apple sues everyone for copying them, but as soon as they copy something that has been in android forever it's ok right... Honestly apple is just ridiculous in general. The interface is just easier for people and thats why the iphone is so popular, most people who own the iphone think its the best when the specs are lacking so far behind android. Thats why I have convinced two of my friends to get android phones after they both had iphones. They both like android better and said that the potential and things you can do on android is so much better. All those apple fan boys think their stuff is the best Maybe someone will sue them and give them a taste of their own medicine
Them filing a patent doesn't mean it will be approved. They attempt to patent just about everything they do, on the off chance it gets approved.

Most likely the best response I've read in a long time. I, for one, absolutely DESPISE Apple Mobility Department with a serious passion. All my friends who have the icrap come to me saying how they have Siri & other bs. Well, they don't have a full HD screen:good:, nor a quad core processor:highfive:, or the awesomeness of the XDA Developers & everyone in the XDA forums.

Apple is on the way out. Why do you think Apple stock has fallen 40 percent in the last 6 months? People like preference and android is mature. Apple is far behind the competition.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW
As much as I love to bash Apple until they're a nice warm cider I don't think I can agree that Apple is "on the way out". I think what we're seeing instead is the market shifting.
Apple for the past decade has targeted Innovators and Early Adopters offering Luxury goods. As the smart phone industry (specifically the always connected mini-computer touch screen phones we're used to now) matures margins fall and competition increases. iPhones used to be status symbols, and they still can be, however they've become so common place that they've lost a lot of their marginal utility.
Google, Samsung, HTC, LG, Motorola, even Sony have all stepped up their game on a united Android front. The brilliance of Android for Google that I suspect, is that the competition between Android devices (Samsung GS4 v. HTC One for example) improves the Android offering with tons of new features and brand visibility. I know for a fact that Android is regularly sipping away the iPhone's market share.
Returning to my point, Android has always operated with a model adopted from classic handset sales. Margins are fairly low, but, due largely in part by the free cost of Android to the developers, they're able to offer phones at affordable prices that match or exceed Apple's iPhone. Apple always tries to maintain that their products are different and superior to the competition. In fact, they rarely even acknowledge that there is competition and I do believe that this (over)confident stance has helped them maintain their market share and unique identity.
iPhones arguably lag behind Android's top offerings these days. No NFC, No Wireless charging, no HD screen, etc. I don't believe iPhones really hold the public perception of being superior to the competition anymore. Apple is struggling to keep it's market share and I think it's operating on a model that is unsustainable. Think of it this way.
When it comes time to replace a Macbook Pro, most users will grab the latest MBP without even thinking about it. When it comes time to replace their iPhone though, more and more people are considering, and switching to Android.

I suspect you've never invented anything.
What the OP fails to disclose (and I don't know if any one of you bothered to do the research).. was that this patent was filed way back in 2011 by Apple. Also, the functionality in question is a little bit more involved than just merely accessing apps from lockscreen.
Apple is the most valuable company in the world.. if you want to believe into the 24x7 anti-apple propaganda.. by all means do so. But that is not gonna deter apple or tech enthusiasts who value what apple has to offer.
Apple and the whole iphone phenomenon annoy the sh**t out of me... I don't know why, it's only a phone. Such a stupid thing to get so annoyed about. But it's true. Every time they add a new feature to the iphone, everyone acts as if it's groundbreaking and it's a huge f***ing deal. And then you have those iPhone owners that are still convinced that owning an iPhone makes them "unique" as if they haven't noticed that everyone else has the same exact phone as them. Android as an os is better in every way and so is the hardware current phones use. And yet I use their products because I have to. I use osx and have an ipad strictly because I require the software. Were it not for that, I would probably be sticking Linux and Android.

Actually Samsung n LG just manufacture these products. 'Retina' display is just a marketing term used by apple to discribe pixle density+viewing distance needed to make individual pixles impossible to discern with the human eye or retina. Its core tech is no different than a standard LCD..http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/44728/what-exactly-is-a-retina-display
