Hello Everyone,
First and foremost I apologise for posting here instead of the dev forum. It looks like i havent met the post threshold.
I have an interesting predicament, I installed pre-rooted ICS using Condi's AiO tool and everything was fantastic.
Forgetting to disable the OTA updates, I accidentally clicked on the new 4.0.3 update and completed the install. Boy do i feel stupid
Now, my tablet shows V4.0.3 but I am still fully rooted. There are some issues and I want a clean install of HoneyComb but I am not able to downgrade. I have tried numerous times following the instructions in the DEV forum.
Has anyone come across this or am I the only lucky one?

Wow what a mess lol
Anyway. If you still have root you will be able to downgrade. You will need to edit the incremental under /vendor/vendor.prop change it to something lower than the HC number say "1" will do. Then you may have to change /system/build.prop aswell (not sure if ICS checks there too).
The reason for this is when you installed OTA it changed these values to ICS for example 120410001.
After this you can downgrade to HC by flashing (preroot HC if you can first to be safe). Then using AIO under tweaks and mods please disable OTA notification to be safe.

Thats great!
I did the build.prop change when I was trying to downgrade based on the info available but was not aware of the vendor.prop file.
Going to try this tonight, thanks for the help!
Ok,
Tried when i got home and with build.prop and vendor.prop "build.incremental" values set to 1 installing signed_nbx03_001-ota-0042.001.
Still gives me the error "prohibit update as a result of checking version or base sku".
I must be missing something simple. Any ideas?

Would that be because you unit is not US???
Are you Russia by any chance. Look for your nbx03_XXX number from build.prop.
Try:
Russia

Wait, I am slightly confused, can I downgrade to Honeycomb using a different country file? I have the stock US ICS now. I would love to be able to revert back to Honeycomb and root, then apply the pre-rooted ICS.
Unless someone else has heard anything knew about root for stock ICS update? (insert crickets chirping here)
Thanks in advance.

Hi 2 days back I rooted my new SGS2 for some reason. I 'm done and need to unroot now to maintain my warranty. I didn't install any custom ROMs. What is the way in this situation? Still need to reflash the original Stock rom? Sorry if I'm bothering but I searched a lot (also in Google.com) but all unrooting threads are talking about situations of unrooting after installing custom roms.
Flash stock official rom with odin from Intratech thread and you done. No root and have warranty
How did you install root ? U need to flash old kernal for your rom and may need a jig
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
Not done it as of yet but if after kernal your recovery back to normal then check in download mode see if theres any number of times flashed mine says 6 will need a jig to remove that as far as i know not done yet.

Thanks for ur quick reply but:
Is the stock official rom the same one showing in About Phone?
Can
you post the link to what you are referring?
I'm long here in HD2 forums but very new (noob) in SGS2. Perhaps coming from HD2 is the reason why rooting was the 1st thing in my mind whan I changed my phone , not knowing that unrooting is a tougher procedure.

Thanks. Yes I believe that is ZergRush (The name says its it), but the question: If I used ZergRush and didn't apply any custom roms, what is the simplest method to unroot? and is the required firmware the same showing in my About Phone?
Hi All helpers.
Attached is my (current) About Phone and this is what I found in Intratech thread relating to my phone:
JPKJ2
Firmware info
PDA:JPKJ2
PHONE: XXKI4
Date: 13/10/2011
Android 2.3.5
OJP (ABS, AFG, BTC, EGY, JED, KSA, LEV, MAT, MED, MID, MMC, MWD, OTU, PAK, THR): Download
XSG (UAE):
JPKJ2 Stock Kernel: Download
Password: [email protected]
The provided download is a kernal (5MB) and not a firmware. So now what?
You're looking for the "Download" link above the stock kernel line, that reads "OJP (ABS, AFG, BTC, EGY, JED, KSA, LEV, MAT, MED, MID, MMC, MWD, OTU, PAK, THR): Download". That is the full firmware.
The link below that says "JPKJ2 Stock Kernel: Download" is, as labelled, just the kernel.
But before you go flashing anything; doesn't ZergRush have an UN-root function? At least, there is a reference to it on the ZergRush FAQ thread.
I've never used ZergRush, but it seems reasonable if all you want is to un-root, then flashing a firmware (even if it IS stock) is an unnecessary risk, if un-root is built right into the method you used to root in the first place.

Yes, maybe this is the simple thing I'm looking for. Yes he does provide Unroot script.
Will have to give that a go and see.
A simple question here comes to my mind: In this situation, is Unrooting necessary for the upcoming ICS offical upgrade?
Proberly because u have a warning triangle and i have ics from here just download it and put on its fine works great when UK gets it its going to be same and if your like me you will flash another rom soon after intill you buy a new one ive been doing it since the lg gt540 still love that phone still got it

Thanks. This option is what i'll go for first. I'll wait for now until ICS is available in my area (hopefully soon). If I can just grab it without unrooting, then no point to take any risk.
Finally
OK, thank you all guys who shared their knowledge with me here. I have enough idea on the various options now. I'll try to update this thread after doing any related action.
From this discussion what I thought turned to be true and perhaps there isn't established knowledge about it across many users when they (like me) consider unrooting : If the phone is only rooted without any custom rom flashing, then THERE ARE simple methods to unroot before going for downloading and flashing the original device's firmware :
You can still get the official upgrade from manufacturer's update software, so no need to unroot
Your root method may have unroot script specific to it from the root method developer.
Well, the above is true at least for SGS2
Cheers!

Possible but id no update then product codes dont match original firmware .

Unroot is just flashing the original kernel a stock kernel or even stock firmware .
If Kies does offer an update it will wipe root in update process .

There is no India 3.2.(1) anymore, removed from Sony servers. Change region to US (WIFI ONLY). Then you can downgrade to 3.2(1). Then you could change back to India. Use AIO too custom update to Downgrade to 3.2.1 with root (to be safe) even though the US 3.2.1 online here is rootable with the old method.
Good luck

Okay thanks, i think i will stay with ICS for now and enjoy root :fingers-crossed:
Downgrade to Honeycomb is VERY EASY
crack the ver num in prop files
then flash stock 3.2.1 rom by sd card

You will be very lucky to find that file. You should go up to ICS then preroot the HC update and then flash using AIO.
Hence giving you HC rooted.
Stifilz
THAT 3.2.1 rom is not easy to find
suggest you upgrade to 4.0.3 use ota
root it
then change to us 3.2.1 r2 rom,(Or china rom,i have it
last root it again
PS:not all ver#10 HC is un-root able!,my china 3.2.1 r2 is rooted by aio!
Yea bro, i have again upgraded to ICS but not with ota.. but downloading req file from stifilz bro's update thread. It all went just fine.
Yesterday, rooted it too. All well right now.
Now regarding HC, i have few doubts in mind. Can you guys please suggest:
-I have not yet understood how to install HC that is with kernal 10 which is rootable. stifilz suggested to install with aio to get the root on HC but i don't really get the steps. Can you please elaborate how to install HC and get it rooted step by step?
-In ICS, there is patch in aio to make it enable "Use sd card 2 as USB storage ", is there something available like this in HC?
-I sometime get microphone issue on ICS, has somebody else face similar issue and on HC microphone work well?
Thanks again guys for your help

normal HC is rootable, just use aio, make sure ver is 3.2.1,not 3.2
by now, only china #10 version is rootable,i 'am lucky chinese
maybe u can make a pre-root hc rom by aio, just like pre-root ics (just in theory)
-In ICS, there is patch in aio to make it enable "Use sd card 2 as USB storage ", is there something available like this in HC?
USB storage is ics ONLY
-I sometime get microphone issue on ICS, has somebody else face similar issue and on HC microphone work well?
i'am no care about that
go go go,DIYER:laugh:

I couldn't find anyone with it, but here's the solution http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32156572#post32156572
First you're supposed to flash an official blob (either WW or US version,it doesn't matter), then proceed to download the corresponding JB update and you're good to go!
Notes;
You don't need to be unlocked but you need root and busy box installed
There's always a risk of bricking your device following anyone of these procedures
Remember to have your root backed up using Voodoo

The only problem with flashing a different SKU is that you'll never be able to receive OTA updates again...
If ASUS doesn't do anything about the update problem in the next few days, though, I'll switch anyway. I've tried re-flashing the TW .28 ROM, data wipe, rerooting and unrooting after backing up SU, and clearing DMClient and CMClient caches, all to no effect. I always end up with the "Failed to download the file" error.

Well... That's what came to mind but whenever an update comes someone would probably have it posted up on xda (mostly WW and US) and changing the SKU would just mean that we'd get better compatible support since the WW and US versions are more widespread
On a side note I got the dock update as soon as I docked my keyboard after 4.1 :fingers-crossed: so that doesn't completely rule out the possibility that we wouldn't be supported with anymore Asus updates

Thanks lineager. Unfortunately for me, my Prime started to download the OTA update hours earlier, and thinking based on other users' posts that OTA Root Keeper would be up to the task, I just let the regular update process proceed. Found out the hard way that it only could restore partial root. So I actually got punished for doing it the Asus way, instead of using dlpkgfile... I have seen the thread of restoring full root, but I don't have the knowledge to understand it. I'd just be parroting it step by step, hoping I didn't make a mistake...
Sucks because I pretty much need root to use apps like Facebook or Twitter here in China (because I need to use a VPN app to get around the Great Firewall). Ah well, at least I can use this dlpkgfile to help one of my Chinese Prime-owning friends.

You might be lucky like me if you used OTA Root Keeper before the update. I used the method described by member thenrz in his thread "For those with 'partial root after JB update - regain root!", and it worked fine (though I had a heart attack at step 18a, which turned out not to be necessary for my machine). Now my Prime is fully rooted and should still be able to receive any future OTA updates. I hope that method works for you.
What a tech nightmare this has been, though. Not only did it take me days to download the OTA update, I spent a whole day trying to get root back -- the thenrz method wasn't the first one I tried. I tried repeatedly to downgrade back to .28 so that I could root/backup and use the dlpkgfile, but always failed. My mind was blown when manually pushing files worked on my first try -- it was like Murphy's Law was being violated.
I was using Android's built-in VPN support last year, but the government started blocking the commonly used PPTP and L2TP protocols, and so I have been using a free VPN app (DroidVPN) for a year now. Thanks for reminding me though, I just checked and JB has some new VPN settings that I will give a try.

I was wondering if the R5 of ICS is out in UK yet for the Tablet S WiFi only version, i have an OTA available but can't tell as it simply says "4.0.3 Upgrade" and does not specify what version of ICS is it. Can someone confirm this for me before going to the effort of decrypting etc. to keep root then coming to realisation that its the same version...

Start downloading and then look in the cache folder and tell me the name of the zip in there and I will be able to tell you
Have not heard anything from anyone else.

I just changed region to UK to have a look.
IT IS NOT R5
Just standard signed-nbx03_003-ota-120803004.zip which is R1A.

Cheers, just wondering what is actually new in r5? From what I know its not really much is it?

Xperia Apps etc are added so the older Tab is like the newer Xperia Tab. Has Xperia link, walkman etc etc. If you are keen to have a look just change region to US....
Note: It changes your recovery so you CAN NO LONGER make decrypt / install custom roms using AIO as shell is disabled in recovery.
