When my S3 is in power saving mode (in bright sunlight condition) screen is flickering. When i turn off power saving mode, flickering disapire.
Can samone tell is it normal?
Thnks for answers
actually i have the same problem
until i turned off the power saver.
but what do you think the cause of this problem?
i working on it, and what i will do now is removing my sd card and see the results.
this issue appeared when i bought and inserted my new sd card card.
will update you..
THX
If you have set the power saving mode for the screen, it will use a lower framerate
Your flickering should come from that
Only solution: disable power saving for screen
yes, but this issue never seen until i did update my firm ware to last one.
i think it's firmware issue.
i will try to contact Samsung and see if there any answer they can give.

I have two problems in my Samsung Galaxy S3
1- When I open the lock there is a transition of black lines on the screen. The moment I open the lock few black lines appear on the screen for a second. It blinks and then it is back to normal. But when I switch off the power saving mode it doesn't. This problem just starred to appear as there was no such problem before.
2- My battery drains on idle. I charge my phone and within 3 hours it seems to go down to 87 % without any use. The cell standby is what is eating the battery. It takes about 70% of power in cell stand by. I have read on many forums about the it but i don't want to flash my phone to solve that problem.
Please help me to solve my problems.
One backup data and factory reset .
Two check for updates via KIES .
Three Wifi settings turn off always on .
Fails then as you don't want to flash the next step is a service centre .

Are you sure this is not the ripple bug? Is it a dark wallpaper? If so turn off the ripple.

Just about to write a new thread about this problem. I have the exactly same screen problem you are having. I notice the problem since 2nd week I bought the phone. Try factory reset, flash new firmware (from original firmware which I forgot the version > latest stock LH1 > leaked LI8 > LIB), re-flash LI8 once and of course with a full wipe every time I flash. But the same thing happens again. This is so annoying since I found the problem. Try a lot (ripple off, force GPU on, change wallpaper, screen mode, screen tone and everything about screen) still no solution yet.Have to visit Samsung Centre I guess
I think maybe others have this problem too just they didn't notice it. Try turn on power save mode (it doesn't matter you tick the options inside or not, I have try them all), locked or turn off your screen then turn it on. Stare still on the screen to see if you have the black line.

I feel the same that I have to walk in to a samsung service centre. I don't understand how such big phones have these errors and I always have bad luck in terms of mobile phone. I always get a faulty piece or something with some problem or other.
I tried power saving mode and there is no blinking as I have mentioned above but why does it blink on power saving mode ??? My friend too have same phone but he doesn't have an such problem.

Well finally I've found a thread that describes the same bug I'm having.
I confirm this bug. When power saver mode is ON, there's a flickering when you unlock the screen, black lines appear for a second and then disapper, like a screen refresh or something... but this problem is not there when power saver mode is OFF. Weird.. but I just turned it off. Have you guys found another solution?

Turning off the power saving mode is the only solution by now. And I also found the same problem happened when I use camera. It's quite hard to notice because it happens just right after you click the camera icon before the screen changes.

Hi guys
Do you have whatsapp installed?
I had the phone for 5 days now and it ran perfectly for about 3 days.
I used the screen sticker that came with the phone for a while because i didn't have
a screen protector(still not). Then i started installing stuff and whatsapp was installed
then i noticed crappy black horizontal line flicker the screen. Today I had a friend over
and the phone when mad, it booted but then stopped responding, now here's the part where
the black flicker gets fixed. I restored the phone to its default settings and the black was gone
installed whatsapp and droidwall and the flicker came again, it's uninstalled now and the phone
works fine.
Turning off power saving mode didn't work for me, this did
Dear all!
I am really in despair
I notice a strange phenomenon on my Galaxy S 3 (German version).
Sometimes there occurrs a flickering of the screen. It is caused by thin greyish horizontal lines which jitter with high frequency at some parts of the screen. You should not imagine it as some blinking of the whole screen. It's only a partial jittering of thin greyish lines.
It does appear at random, I cannot force this effect to occurr. Most of the times it's subtle, but sometimes it is clearly visible.
I read in some other threads that people noticed flickering in dependence of the power saving options. This I observed as well. But I don't know why. Unfortunately, none of the other threads came to a conclusion. And the problem seems to affect only very few devices.
My S3 was sent into repair twice. Two times the touch screen was exchanged. Last time they also changed "some electrical and mechanical parts". However, the flickering still occurrs.
I now tested for a while and made the following observations:
- it's not related to 3g, wifi or mobile connections in general (occurred while switched off)
- it's not related to "automatic brightness control" (occurred with manually set brightness, 1/3)
- it's not due to the display (they changed it two times)
- it's not related to ambient light (happened both with artificial light and in darkness)
- it's not related to the setting "adjust display color"
- neon light helps to trigger it, as well as switching the screen on or manually changing the brightness
- it's not related to any one of the single settings in "energy saving mode"
- flickering "survives" switching the screen off for a short time
- switching "energy saving" off always finishes the flickering
Can anyone shed light on the reasons for this?
Try unticking the second option in Power Saving mode, which is supposed to lower the FPS in order to preserve power. You can still user PS mode but the flickering should be gone.

thank you!
i already unticked all single options there. didn't change it. the only solution is to switch the whole "enrgy saving mode" off as it seems.

I am using PS mode with all the options checked all the time, I don't think I have ever disabled it, and I haven't noticed the issue you mention. Can you tell us more about root status/ROM/kernel on your device etc? Also, have you tried disabling PS mode and observing the phone for 24 hours or so, to see if it still does the flickering at some point?
I'm having same issue. As for the conditions my result is that it would only appear after wake up when power saving is on with lowest brightness. Also it's not noticeable on dark wallpapers. Any ideas other than "turn off" power saving mode?
Just to add, I'm running stock 4.1.2 version which didn't fix this problem and I was observing phone without PS for a few days without any flicker of this kind.
Hello,
the following problem appears when i try to unlock the phone after some hours: i can see my home screen, but the screen stays extremely dim. When i try to start an app (e.g. browser) the screen turns black. I can unlock it again, but the screen stays dim. after some unlocking the screen becomes normal (normal brightness) and also the apps are startable.
i am using autobrightness, the stock firmware, 4.1.1 (i9300xxdlih) power saver is not turned on.
thx, i hope you can help me solving this problem

i updated mobile phone to android versiopn 4.1.2. this morning. Unfortunately the problem still appears.
Maybe its a hardware defect?
Try to disable somehow light sensor and change settings to non auto brightness.

i disabled auto brightness and set the brightness to the highest level. But its still same: very dim and after a while a black screen; after a few times of unlocking, the display works normally
I have just seen the same issue on a friend's S3.
Anyone else? I feel like this is a very big issue that is still lurking in a lot of devices.
I tried it myself and I toggled the power button to turn the screen on and off.
It doesn't take long but sometimes when the screen turns back on, it's super dim and you can faintly see the lockscreen image.
You have to cycle the screen several more times to get it to the 'correct' brightness, and no it is NOT a brightness setting.
It's some hardware issue in the phone.
Sorry for the necrobump, but I only found this thread. I have this problem too since about a week back. It makes my phone useless at times. I first thought it was a software issue. I have an app (called Twilight) for dimming the screen more than normal settings and also toning it, for nightime use, and I thought that was the culprit first, but nope. I have flashed rom, recovery, wiped all caches I can think of. Still happens, just now I was in the middle of installing android revolution hd, and the screen ultradimmed on me so I can't finish the process
Thing is, a few months ago I managed to crack my screen by way of gravity and concrete. I let the samsung brand service centre in Stockholm repair it for me (it is out of warranty) and this issue with the dimming never happened before that. Then again, it didn't happen directly afterwards either... but still. So, I am thinking: either me dropping it caused more damages and this is because of that. Or the service center did a bad install of the new screen. Or, the replacement screen that was installed has a defect in itself. I am leaning a bit towards the third explanation... maybe different batches of screens?
Does anyone have any ideas? If I am to contact the service center and complain about their work I would like to be able to point towards a "known problem"...

Take it back, if it didn't happen before then the new screen is most likely.
It isn't a common problem
Hi everyone
I've been having some odd issues start occurring around a month ago on my Galaxy S6 Edge 64GB (G925W8):
1. Auto brightness turned on - Screen flickers between low and high backlight very quickly, mainly when outdoors.
2. Home button stopped working completely for 8 days (fingerprint scanner on the button still worked) but temporarily came back last night but is now again unresponsive to presses.
3. Power button intermittently works, 75% of the time I connect to charger it will start to work again for a short time.
Any ideas why these issues would have started occurring and are there any fixes? The only thing I can think of is that I flashed 6.0.1 (6.0.1 EastLink on to 5.1.1 Rogers) on to the phone but I've re-flashed with no luck.
Cheers
1. its the outdoor mode that makes your screen flicker. turn it on manually and try to change brightness, it will be the same

You're right, when I change the brightness on the slider, the screen doesn't change at all. This is the same even if I'm indoors.
Any ideas how to disable outdoor mode? I cannot find a setting for it anywhere.
Turns out the home button was "worn out" when I took it in for repair for a phone around a year old!
Unfortunately, a broken home button also means the screen and sensors need to be replaced too but luckily I managed to get the repair done for free by Samsung.
