Changing where to store photos and videos - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I installed a custom rom and now it automatically stores it in the external SD card which is really small and I only use it to have a nandroid backup on it basically. So how do I change the destination so I can get them to my DCIM folder on my internal SD card?

Open camera -> settings -> storage -> change to phone

Can't view sd card in Astro?

I noticed that the external SD card is only visible within the default file manager app. 3rd party apps are unable to view/browse the external sd card. Is it possible to work around this? I wish Samsung did it the traditional way here..

I too cant see it in Astro but is is visable in Root Explorer although the default location as changed and it took me a few minutes to find it, previously with the SGSII it was (in Root Explorer) when you clicked on SD Card > External SD but know the location is mnt > ext sd card

Yes I realised that too. It is very annoying! That made Astro practically useless!
Use Total Commander instead. It works fine ...
I use astro and can get to the Ext SD by going into Manage My Files then going Up one level to /mnt from /mnt/sdcard then the extSdCard folder is visible

Set sd card as default storage

Looking to have card set as default for photos, downloaded items.
How do I do this?
depends on your make/model, but on a samsung GS2 I go into settings>storage>menu>storage configuration, un-tick internal storage
As Samsung has changed the way the SD card is mounted by the phone, I don't think that is possible (to confirm).
A solution could be to create a symbolic link between the internal storage and the SD card via a Terminal, even if I don't know if it'll work.

For the camera photos open camera click the settings icon, storage, - memory card.
For internet, open browser, Settings, Avanced, Default storage - memory card.

How to save to external SD card?

I have a Galaxy s3. But this pertains to any phone with a sd card.
I can access the card with root explorer just fine. I can see media on it that I placed there due to media scan.
But i cant save to it on some apps. Apps that capture pics or save stuff..in their options, it allows you to choose the directory you want to save in. But it stays in internal storage only area only.
I cant go up to main system root directory to choose the external card for a folder location...
Is there a way to do it?

[Q] LG Optimus L9 Won't Allow Access to Internal Memory Using File Manager

My carrier is MetroPCS. Since this phone only has 1.8GB of internal memory, I have a 16GB microSDHC card for external storage, but I can't move anything from sdcard0 to my external sd card in File Manager because nothing shows up on sdcard0. I want to move my pictures from sdcard0 to my external sd card, but nothing shows up under the "pictures" folder in sdcard0. I can't just make my storage option the SD card because when I do that, it's still saving on the internal memory, because apparently the phone thinks that sdcard0 is the SD card. So I need a way to change the storage option to my external card or a way to uncover these files that are hidden somehow.
I'm operating on Jellybean 4.1.2 and 3.0.31 kernel.
@pennyboard420 Welcome to XDA forums.
Your camera pictures are actually saved in the "DCIM/thumbnails" folder and not the "Pictures" (only my screen-shots are saved in the "Pictures" folder) folder and no this folder won't open with File Manager. You need a different file browser, like Root Browser that lets you see hidden files/folders. On some of them you will need root access to modify or change these files and folders.
You can't set and change your default storage location from sdcard0 to the external sdcard natively.
You would need to install an app like Link2sd or a swap script, again the device needs to be rooted.
Another Solution

I've tried your solution but wasn't able to get it rooted because some drivers that I needed couldn't be run on the Surface RT tablet that I have due to the tablet only allowing Microsoft developed software to run. However, I have found an alternate solution: Instead I connected my LG L9 to the tablet, opened up the DCIM/Thumbnails folder and manually copied all my pictures into the DCIM/100LGDSC folder of my external SD card.
Chances are you probably already know about this, but just putting it out there.
Thanks again.

Pictures not showing up from SD

I have cant seem to get my pictures to load in the gallery from my sd card. On my previous phones it automatically scans for pictures on the sd card. I can not get to show up at all when going through the settings in Gallery. What am i missing?
Try these two methods:
Method 1. Reset Gallery to make SD card photos/videos show up in Gallery
1. Go to File Manager > Android > Data;
2. Find com.android.gallery3d file folder and delete this folder both on your internal or external card;
3. Go to Settings > Apps > Application Manager;
4. Search for Gallery and open Gallery > Click on Clear Data;
5. Switch off Android phone and switch on.
Method 2. Delete .NOMEDIA file to make SD card photos/videos show up in Gallery
1. Go to the respective Folders where images/videos are stored on SD card;
2. Click on Settings > Tap Show hidden files;
3. If there is .NOMEDIA file in the folder, delete it;
4. Switch off and switch on Android phone.
There you shall be able to view SD card photos, videos in Gallery and use other files on your Android phone again.
