I have cant seem to get my pictures to load in the gallery from my sd card. On my previous phones it automatically scans for pictures on the sd card. I can not get to show up at all when going through the settings in Gallery. What am i missing?
Try these two methods:
Method 1. Reset Gallery to make SD card photos/videos show up in Gallery
1. Go to File Manager > Android > Data;
2. Find com.android.gallery3d file folder and delete this folder both on your internal or external card;
3. Go to Settings > Apps > Application Manager;
4. Search for Gallery and open Gallery > Click on Clear Data;
5. Switch off Android phone and switch on.
Method 2. Delete .NOMEDIA file to make SD card photos/videos show up in Gallery
1. Go to the respective Folders where images/videos are stored on SD card;
2. Click on Settings > Tap Show hidden files;
3. If there is .NOMEDIA file in the folder, delete it;
4. Switch off and switch on Android phone.
There you shall be able to view SD card photos, videos in Gallery and use other files on your Android phone again.

I installed a custom rom and now it automatically stores it in the external SD card which is really small and I only use it to have a nandroid backup on it basically. So how do I change the destination so I can get them to my DCIM folder on my internal SD card?
Open camera -> settings -> storage -> change to phone
I have a Galaxy s3. But this pertains to any phone with a sd card.
I can access the card with root explorer just fine. I can see media on it that I placed there due to media scan.
But i cant save to it on some apps. Apps that capture pics or save stuff..in their options, it allows you to choose the directory you want to save in. But it stays in internal storage only area only.
I cant go up to main system root directory to choose the external card for a folder location...
Is there a way to do it?
A lot of threads on the web about how to force stock camera to save photos to external SD instead of internal SD storage, but no universal solution. Here is the simple trick that did the job for me.
Environment:
- Lenovo p700i, ICS 4.0.4
- no option in the stock camera app to choose photo saving location
- camera saves to internal storage (/mnt/sdcard/DCIM = /sdcard/DCIM) by default
- when low on internal storage space camera itself decides to save to external SD (/mnt/sdcard2/DCIM)
The trick:
1. move everything from /mnt/sdcard/DCIM to /mnt/sdcard2/DCIM
2. delete folder /mnt/sdcard/DCIM
3. create empty file /mnt/sdcard/DCIM
Drawbacks:
- camera will always show 0 remaining pictures
- every time taking a picture or video it will display a message "not able to save to default location"
Hope this helps.

But friend how to create an empty file????
I'm having same problem in my jb 4.2.1. There is no option to change camera storage location.
I think your method will work for me.
When I delete DCIM folder on my sd card it is created again when I take any pic and saves to that folder only. I have the same folder in my external sd card.
Please help.
I have pictures saved to the micro SD card on the phone. I connect the phone to my PC (Windows 7) and I found a bug, where the image size would read as 0 bytes. And on the PC I won't be able to open the file. Copying the file over to the computer will yield an un-openable file.
The image is open-able in the Gallery from Asus in the phone. But if I look under details it won't tell me the size.
Lucky for me the Asus File Manager is still able to read the size of these images.
The Fix:
1) Open file manager from Asus on your phone.
2) Locate your pictures in your micro sd card (Location SD). Check and see if you can see all the file sizes.
3) If yes, select all images. Copy them to a folder in your internal storage (Location IN) in your phone.
4) Then select all the newly created images from the internal storage. Copy them back into the same spot (Location SD) as the origin.
5) Your PC should be able to read those files sizes now. Once everything is fixed, feel free to delete the duplicates in Location IN.
This problem happens when you use a third party program like Microdroid to move files from the internal storage over to your microSD card. As such only use the Asus File Manager to move files.
(You can set the default saving location to your microSD. But I found that to be too slow, specially for video recording. Hence I want to save first to internal storage and then move them to microSD after. Either way you can play around.)
If you you're on MIUI you might have noticed that the contents of your "obb" directory might become write-protected sometimes.
I discovered that this happens because of an option called "Mock SD Card Optimization" in Developer Options.
This option is disliked by many, because it slows down your storage I/O speed, and while the name might suggest it only applies to external SD cards, it also includes the internal storage too!
If you turn off this option while already having an Android/obb directory, this directory becomes locked on next launch. Thankfully, I found a simple workaround:
1. Enable Mock SD Card Optimization temporarily. It requires restart.
2. Go to Android/obb and move (cut) all folders to another directory temporarily. This will serve as a backup.
3. Delete the obb folder.
4. Turn off Mock SD Card Optimization and reboot.
5. Again go to sdcard/Android directory and now create a new obb folder.
6. Move your backed-up obb folders back into this new obb directory.
Done! Problem Averted!
Unfortunately I can't find this feature on miui 10. My obb folder is locked and need to fix it. I only have the 2 options for mock sd
