[SOLVED] Easy hack to save photos to external SD by default (ICS) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A lot of threads on the web about how to force stock camera to save photos to external SD instead of internal SD storage, but no universal solution. Here is the simple trick that did the job for me.
Environment:
- Lenovo p700i, ICS 4.0.4
- no option in the stock camera app to choose photo saving location
- camera saves to internal storage (/mnt/sdcard/DCIM = /sdcard/DCIM) by default
- when low on internal storage space camera itself decides to save to external SD (/mnt/sdcard2/DCIM)
The trick:
1. move everything from /mnt/sdcard/DCIM to /mnt/sdcard2/DCIM
2. delete folder /mnt/sdcard/DCIM
3. create empty file /mnt/sdcard/DCIM
Drawbacks:
- camera will always show 0 remaining pictures
- every time taking a picture or video it will display a message "not able to save to default location"
Hope this helps.

But friend how to create an empty file????
I'm having same problem in my jb 4.2.1. There is no option to change camera storage location.
I think your method will work for me.
When I delete DCIM folder on my sd card it is created again when I take any pic and saves to that folder only. I have the same folder in my external sd card.
Please help.

Set sd card as default storage

Looking to have card set as default for photos, downloaded items.
How do I do this?
depends on your make/model, but on a samsung GS2 I go into settings>storage>menu>storage configuration, un-tick internal storage
As Samsung has changed the way the SD card is mounted by the phone, I don't think that is possible (to confirm).
A solution could be to create a symbolic link between the internal storage and the SD card via a Terminal, even if I don't know if it'll work.

For the camera photos open camera click the settings icon, storage, - memory card.
For internet, open browser, Settings, Avanced, Default storage - memory card.

[Q] Saving picture issue from email

So I sent myself a couple pictures from my email and with the Gmail app I saved them but they don't show up in my gallery or in my downloads. Gmail still shows them as saved though. Any idea where it may mysteriously send these pictures off to into the phone?
If you have an SD card there will be a download folder in both the internal and SD card memory, use whatever file manager program came with it or a 3rd party like ES file explorer to check both the SD card and internal memory for the folder. The internal memory will probably be labeled /sdcard with makes you thing it is the external but it isnt, the external will be at /mnt/ext****. On my S3 i have to check both folders to find downloads as some apps default to the external card if available and some target the internal memory.

[Q] Camera Storage issue..............

I have a Moto Droid Razr Maxx, rooted running latest JB 4.1.2, (98.72.16.XT912.Verizon.en.US) anyways this problem has been occurring from day one and it is annoying as crap. Hope someone can tell me what to do. In my Camera settings I chose to send all photos taken to my 16GB external SD card and have verified the Camera settings over and over but for some reason every few pics I take it will create a DCIM folder on my internal storage and a Camera folder inside that and my pics start ending up in there. So.....when I open the Gallery once again I have two Folders named Camera, with a few different pics in it and then I still have my Camera folder on my external card. I move my pics from the internal storage to the external storage manually, then delete the DCIM folder from the internal storage. I then repeat the process and, well told you all that above. It was doing this before rooting and it is still doing it after. Being that I am rooted though, is there any setting in my build.prop file that controls this? Just grasping at straws here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RR: Stock Camera app won't save to SD

I have Resurrection Remix (LP) on my phone, and the stock camera app (com.android.camera2) will not save images to SD card. I have selected the destination folder as SD card in the settings, and I've made sure the card itself is writable in FileManager (and has enough free space too in GBs). The app has no issues saving pictures to internal storage (but it is very limited)
Do you gurus know what the issue might be?

Pictures not showing up from SD

I have cant seem to get my pictures to load in the gallery from my sd card. On my previous phones it automatically scans for pictures on the sd card. I can not get to show up at all when going through the settings in Gallery. What am i missing?
Try these two methods:
Method 1. Reset Gallery to make SD card photos/videos show up in Gallery
1. Go to File Manager > Android > Data;
2. Find com.android.gallery3d file folder and delete this folder both on your internal or external card;
3. Go to Settings > Apps > Application Manager;
4. Search for Gallery and open Gallery > Click on Clear Data;
5. Switch off Android phone and switch on.
Method 2. Delete .NOMEDIA file to make SD card photos/videos show up in Gallery
1. Go to the respective Folders where images/videos are stored on SD card;
2. Click on Settings > Tap Show hidden files;
3. If there is .NOMEDIA file in the folder, delete it;
4. Switch off and switch on Android phone.
There you shall be able to view SD card photos, videos in Gallery and use other files on your Android phone again.
