I ended up not getting a ATT SGS2 because AT&T chose to remove this feature.
Any idea if they did it again?

Yeah, unfortunately it will more than likely be removed. One thing we can work on is if the Korean LTE version has FM, because if it does maybe we can port it over as the Hardware should be 'mostly' the same.

Bastards! I should have known better than to not expect the worst from ATT (though I'm a willful prisoner of their unlimited data plan)
I guess the locked Note I preordered yesterday will end up on eBay. Totally regret not buying the int'l way back in October...

Apparently, it's not difficult at all to get the int'l Note to work with ATT (of course haven't tried yet myself), but this guide looks pretty simple to follow.
[GUIDE] Getting your unlocked Note fully functional on AT&T (including MMS)
tx baaj. i have come across that thread...alot sounds like chinese to me lol. Jade knows alot it seems!
Most likely it will not have an FM transmitter. AT&T and Samsung's USA websites do not list "FM transmitter" in any of the specs.

Assume you know there are internet radio programs like TuneIn Radio?
So you won't get this phone if it doesn't have a fm radio lpl
Why does att remove the radio? Is it because data usage?

No, the fm does not use any at all. Att wants you to use an online fm service or hd radio so your paying for it!

So it is confirmed that the Note comes with FM receiver hardware... but no application to make use of it? Is it at all possible to get it working? I actually just learned there is no FM app... major bummer for me as I listen to radio quite often... and I'm not one of the lucky ones that have unlimited data.
On one hand, AT&T wants to throttle data so "everyone can have a pleasurable experience"... on the other hand, they remove phone functions which directly reduce the amount of data users require. I've been with Sprint for 15 years and trust me, I've had my frustrations with them. But AT&T sure seems to stick it to their customers more than any other company.
I'm not sure why this is a surprise. Samsung has been consistently pulling radio functionality from almost all of their US branded phones for quite some time. Though I've never really understood the reasoning, it doesn't bother me because I am not often in a position where my phone is the only source of FM radio and when I am, most often wifi is available, so I can use an app that my local FM station has out to listen to my favorite morning show (Preston and Steve on WMMR in Philly!).
Forcing you to use data doesn't make much sense to me since they have been trying to reduce network load for years now. If anyone ever finds out a real answer to this, please let us know. I'm curious.
Is it the Sprint service? This is what happened.
Trying to get the winning numbers for the Mega million I kept getting the old news while my co workers on verizon, att, Tmobile and cricket got the latest updates.
I felt like I was in a commercial being punked.

I couldn't activate my phone earlier online so I had to call Sprint. Online, the system wanted to force me to change plans. Now, I am trying to activate my wife's phone and Sprint customer care is closed for the evening. I am having the same problem trying to activate her phone online.
Has anyone else experienced this and gotten around it?
I got the same thing, had to do it over webchat. took about 10 minutes.

I went through this twice in the past two days. After speaking with Sprint reps, they assured me that the reason was that I got my EVO 4G back when the "premium data" charge was only for WiMAX devices, and now the premium data charge applies to all smartphones. If you select the plan identical to the one you already have, nothing on your account changes.

Pretty sure he is talking about unlocking cell phones becoming illegal on Saturday.
Means nothing to us tablet users. Our tablets aren't phones. From my understanding its more to prevent people from using phones on networks they aren't meant for.

And you still can but what this prevents you from doing is unlocking your phone and walking over to competing mobile provider B. and activating a phone with them that was originally only meant to work on mobile provider A. This is actually a good thing for Google.

Actually this is just made to screw us customers and to help huge corporations in their never ending quest to get more money off us.
If someone buys a phone with a provider and switches it's because said provider didn't fit the needs of the customer needs, having choices is not bad at all.
The damn government is full of selfish bastards that just care about filling their pockets with bribes, this clearly doesn't help anyone.

The Galaxy unlock apps from the store might be banned and if we aren't lucky all of the *unlock your device* threads here in XDA will be gone too.
Here is an article and snippet that mentions tablets:
"Digital Millennium Copyright Act will make it illegal to jailbreak and unlock phones. According to the act, it is illegal to unlock both tablets and phones without permission from your wireless provider. ... Unfortunately, that window closes on Saturday, January 26th."
http://www.tmonews.com/2013/01/dmca-law-to-make-unlocking-phones-illegal-after-january-26th/
Of course any tablet without cell network connectivity or purchased from a cell provider is exempt.
so does this leave cyanogen mod in a tight spot? or can we still swap roms and stick with the current carrier?
I don't live in the US but it infuriates me when the government screws the people it's supposed to protect.
I sure hope none of you guys votes for the fags who passed this.
I agree it's a crock. Do we purchase the phone/tablet or rent it? If we are truly purchasing the phone then all they SHOULD be able to do is void our warranty.
This has nothing to do with rooting your phone or switching roms. The interpretation of the law is saying that you cannot take (for example) an AT&T phone that you bought on contract and unlock it to run on T-mobile without AT&T's permission. If you cancel your contract or it is up, AT&T says they will give you the unlock then.

I honestly dont think this law will be enforced.
Here in South Africa its illegal for the cellphone providers to lock the phones to the network. I guess lucky us.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda app-developers app
The provider sates "purchasing" the phone, and we all sign contracts with stated penalties for early termination. So basically they were able to convince the gov't to make a law to change the contract we already had with the provider.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD
This isnt talking about rooting your phone, it is about unlocking which network it can be connected to. There are probably less than 1% of people in the US who ever unlock their phone to move them to a different carrier. Everyone in the US buys a new phone with a new contract, and most of the pay as you go stuff is unlocked anyway since you have to enter the APN info yourself or have a service rep do it.
The law itself is retarded and unneeded, and also shouldnt be within the realm of what government is allowed to say you can or cant do. But really it makes not one bit of different to just about anyone.
I think this might have been answered before, but why can't the LG Optimus G use Google Wallet to make NFC payments? I use Vanilla Rootbox (the May 18 build) and it lets me install it, but I've been worried that running it might damage something since I read we can't use it.
My main question: Why can't we use it when the Nexus 4 (by most all regards, the same phone) can?

So why can't we use the Xposed mod? I just have a hard time believing that the Spring LGOG and AT&T LGOG could be so different (I thought the only real difference was the camera, TBH. I'm probably way off though. Idk.)

You can use the xposed mod. It's not just for us. It's for any phone. The xposed framework has more use than just the wallet mod as well. But if I had to guess, I'd say it'd be hit and miss as well. (besides the radios, design change, and camera, they pretty much are the same)

Visitor here from the s4 thread. Just wanted to shed some light on Isis for you guys. I for one hate Isis and will stick with Google wallet for as long as I can but if you want to try Isis, you can. They're testing in two markets. However, you're still able to get the Isis sim without being in those markets because Isis works where any paywave/paypass terminals are. Not just Isis terminals. I wanted to try Isis and be open-minded. After an hour on the phone with the rep at the call center and reps at the test markets, I found out the correct item number for the Isis sim which is 'item #41005'. Just ask them you'd like an item shipped and you have the item number. They'll ship it for free. Once you receive it, you activate it and launch Isis. As you're well aware, it won't work with rooted phones. If you're willing to try it, go for it. But for me, I didn't like it at all. It is very limited and clunky. They only support two credit cards but there is an Isis reloadable card you may use if you don't have the cards supported. But I'm sticking with Google wallet on my phone.
