seams like a firewall blocks some data. Do you have a firewall or antivirus on your Xperia S?

Go to settings > Data usage and tap the right touch button, then untick the Restrict background data box. :good:

I want to restrict background data to prevent draining. All I want is to know how to remove the red exclamation icon on status bar.

I see, well then you probably can't. Its similar to when you're typing and the keyboard icon comes up...

Look at this thread - there are two possible ways to deal with this annoying message and still retain the restriction ability.

is that a serious question?
I use it to change brightness and enable/disable bluetooth when getting into my car.
oops double post.
You do know all of that is available in the drop down tray. Including brightness. Just slide your finger across the tray left and right

not if it's on auto
plus, why not use it.
Maybe the OP doesn't feel like sliding down the notification bar.
To turn on BT I can
1) Hit the button on the power widget on my home screen
or
2) slide down notificiation, hit the BT icon, which opens up the BT settings, click enable BT... then hit back to return to my homescreen.
^ apologies, it just doesn't seem "simple clean" to me.....
"simple clean" is referring to the wallpaper... not the widgets/apps setup
eww, toooo many "samsung" on this phone already. =P
I kind of like it.
+1 to frankencat.
I love the samsung aspect to this phone.

[Q] Is it possible to change the Shortcut Panels?

Hey folks.... Been a long time visitor here, but never joined until now Great works by all modders and devs
But back on topic, so is there any way to change the Shortcut Panels on the S2??
I have no need for the "Sound Vibration" and "Auto Rotation" icons and would much rather change them to something that i would use, like Packet data on/off and something else.
Just wondered if this is possible??
I had a look and couldn't find anything, but I apologise if this is a double post.... :S
Anybody?? Is this possible??
another bump.....???
where do you mean mate?
Can you screen shot what you are trying to change?
He means dropdown notification menu.
Wifi, bluetooth, GPS, vibration, auto rotation.

Gotcha !!!
Isnt that all based on the ROM and how it was cooked?

thats exactly what I mean.....
The auto Rotate and Vibration ones are completely redundant for me, I i never have the need to change them.
Just seems silly not to have these customisable....

When they aren't lit, no packet transfers are occurring.
When the up arrow is lit, the device is sending data i.e. uploading a photo or is requesting information. When the down arrow is lit, the device is downloading a file and or various packets i.e. refreshing your Gmail account and new messages being retrieved.
Hope that helped

i mean like what in the system controls them? like for example in sense 4 roms data arrows dont work, but in sense 3.6 rom they work. Why is this?
Could be kernel I think.

It's in the systemui.apk I believe
It would take some small hacks to get it working I think

Firmware/framework issue. They would need the proper/updated firmware to make those work. But since we officially don't have a sense 4 base, don't count on seeing them light up.
The data arrows are controlled by part of the kernel and the images are in systemui.apk. The kernel sends the event(I don't remember the name) and SystemUI calls the appropriate images.
F*CKIN MAGNETS, HOW DO THEY WORK!?!

Thanks in advance for your help nodstuff.
I think you are correct. My notifications are turned off, but I'm not sure how I did it, or how I can turn them back on.
Best regards,
Vinay
OK - I got it sorted out. So simple - there's a toggle on the notifications pull-down!
Thank you again - until you mentioned 'notifications' I had no idea what was going on with that icon.
Pull menu down from the top of the screen all will be revealed

off
you have hit notifications off. Turn it back on. Hit it on the notification bar
It would be a good idea if instead of saying "No notifications" it changed to "[Notifications disabled]" or something like that.
It would be very easy not to notice the button unless you like to explore every last menu and button on a phone when you get it (like me). My dad has this phone too, and I can very easily imagine getting a call about this very issue in a week or two. No way he knows what it means, or why he would have suddenly stopped getting notifications.
Not to mention the fact that saying there are "No notifications" isn't exactly accurate or useful. There could be notifications, but they've been ignored cause you've turned them off.
Thank you motogp1 and Casanoaa as well.
Good point esist...I was totally perplexed, had no idea that icon was related to notifications. Definitely not intuitive or obvious at all

(Solved)How To Remove Icon

I have a data usage icon on my notification tray and I can't seem to get rid of it. I've pulled down the tray and clicked on it, and I've tried to swipe it away, but I just can't get rid of it. Any suggestions?

you might want to check your mobile data limit...it might be set really low and that's why your getting the symbol. Go to Settings>Data Usage>....You will see a graph and you can slide the warning line up or down based on at what percentage you want to be warned at. i have mine set at 3GB. if you dont want the phone to warn you you can simply turn that feature off on the very top right there is an on/off toggle. Hope this helps.....
