What app are you using to control your CPU - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

Hey everyone what app are you all using to control voltages and profiles? I remember an app a Dev posted on xda for free but I don't rememeber the name. Anyway, what are you all using?

SetCPU with a Kernal that supports OC/UV so the performance is great and the battery life is better.

Agreed, but if you aren't ready to go down that route yet, just enable the included power saving option.

What CPU settings get you the best battery life ?

Im still playing with it but it looks like:
Charging any
1890-384
Screen off
594-384
Battery <= 15%
594-384
Battery <=30%
810-384
The real trick to better battery life seems to have been debloating, and installing the fixes (mainly the Cell Standby fix). Right now I am at 82% with 6h 43m on this charge. (41m Screen time, 16m calls with GPS on, and Wifi off)

What cell stand by fix are you talking about? Where can I find it?

There is a Cell Standby fix in the Additional Downloads section of this thread. I don't know if it works on any other phones than T-mobile so if you have another carrier I would do some research to make sure it wont damage your phone.

Battery life improvements in ICS

Hey guys,
Since so much information is thrown around every day about battery life and dual core smartphones, I have a simple question that needs answering (probably a simple answer but I want actual clarification). Will dual core smartphone users see improved battery life performance in ICS? I thought this would be implemented in GB, but I still notice my battery tends to drain at a quick pace on medium use (I don't get the idle drain others do).
Thanks for the responses!

I don't see what a new version of OS would have to do with battery life.
What depends on the OS, is downclocking the CPU and GPU depending on hardware lock, and this is done already in Gingerbread.
At the moment you can get additional battery life using freezing bloat, using custom kernel with battery saving profiles and disabling data when you aren't using it.
I am having great battery life on my Atrix (2 days of solid use).

What do you mean by SOLID use? How long was your screen on? Are you on 4g? What apps do you run.. two days of minimal use I am assuming...

Nope, not minimal use.
Wifi on most of the time. Screen on for 4 hours. Music player on for 5 hours. Occasional GPS usage.

CPU Downclock

I have a doubt: when not in use, the CPU is downclocked or work at 1.2Ghz.
If it isn't downclocked, there an app or something else that could be that? I think that could be usefull to improve battery life.
Download CPU Spy to monitor the CPU. It should go into deep sleep when idle.

Normal settings are for it to only run at 1.2 GHz when loaded. Also, in addition to downclocking, the CPU can go into "deep sleep" where everything shuts off.
The specific clock management settings can be tuned with an app like SetCPU.
Stock frequencies are 200, 500, 800, 1000, 1200 MHz.
I'm wondering if there's a way yo improve battery life... maybe it's better to install a custom rom?

Most people seem to gain battery life on custom roms. There are several to play with and, once you get over the initial hurdle of getting one installed the first time, you won't want to go back!

A couple options which I do myself are run all speeds undervolted by about 50 and set Max speed at 1000Mhz. Not sure if it makes a huge difference on battery life but it definitely doesn't ruin the performance, that I can tell.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
Even 800 doesn't ruin the performance enough to start caring. Once I jump a new kernel I'll start tweaking undervolting and even crazier profiles.
Install a custom rom that removes bloatware and known battery drainers, and undervolt the cpu/downclock it to save most of your battery. Theres many threads about battery life, I suggest you look though those.

Which Has Better Battery Life? MIUI or CM7?

which has better batt life? cm7 or miui?
I used CGM 7.1 on my SGS i9000 and battery lasted 10-12 hours, no better no worse than the previous stock Eclaire ROM. But I gained 300 MHz in cpu speed. I use the SGS extensively during the day, mostly connected to HSPA network. Can't help you on MIUI since I didn't try that one though.

hey gustaftoni.. its ridiculous.. many people recommend cm7 over sense. they say sense is a battery hog and that cm7 fixes all battery draining issues. yet, when you install cm7, the first thing you notice is battery drain. i seriously dont understand why people make stupid claims like this.
So you own a Htc. I own a Samsung, so I didn't have htcsense. Maybe the Samsung rom was already optimized for a good battery life. Anyway I get the same battery life but with processor speed of 1300 MHz instead of 1000. I assume batt life would be longer at stock speed. Try an app like juicedefender or similar for longer battery life, that will sort much more effect than changing rom. Cheers
or set lower clock speeds when screen offs

hi bs.. can you tell me what files in my phone to edit to lower clock speeds when the screen is off? also, i have max clock speed at 768 and min at 245. i'd like to lower max to around 500. but the lowest option after that is 368. like i said, is there a file that i can tweak the max to a lower setting between 768 and 368?

...if you can (without stalling your device). The min for my SGS is 100 MHz and I'm already there. Besides some Roms do not support low speeds as well as other ones do. Just like overclocking, underclocking requires luck.
I have used both, and I can't say for sure, but I think CM7 is faster.

Don't think of installing juice defender. Instead of increasing battery life it rather decreases it by high usage!! Used it for about 2 months.. uninstalled it and felt much better, smooth battery..

smartass vs ondemand?

What do you guys think is better smartassv2 or ondemand? I usually use smartassv2 but im not sure with the rezound.
I'm using ondemand and its been perfect for me. no rebooted and great battery life.
I flashed incredikernel 6 the day it was released weeks ago.
I use on-demand, I have not had a single reboot/bootloop etc yet & the battery life is super.
I use on demand with the stock Kernel (using cleanrom 3.5). I drop the cpu down to about 1.ghz and set a profile for on demand between 192 and 760 something when the screen is off. I only dropped about 3 percent a few nights ago while sleeping (6.5 hours roughly). (the phone doesn't go into sleep mode and I dont have a battery saver). I don't get that with my heavy usage, but that is a big plus.
Where do you guys get the download for ondemand? Back in the day when I had the OG Droid, everyone used SetCPU. Doesn't seem to be the app of choice any more to set frequencies. I can't find ondemand (or smartass for that matter) in the market. ANy suggestions?
I had been using ondemand up until a few days ago. The last couple days I have been using interactive, and it seems like both battery life and performance are somewhat better, although I have no hard numbers to support this, and I have really random usage.

They're features on the kernel. When you install the kernel you'll be able to check which one you wanna use from the app. (SetCPU may be good, but it seems the apps of choice on the Rezound are AnTuTu or Systems Tuner Pro, I use AnTuTU.)
Or if you use incredikernel the app incredicontrol goes along with it perfectly and is 100% totally stable for me. I have tried every kernel there is both GB and ICS on my phone and incredikernel and the stock kernel are the only ones that will run stability test scaling stability test all night long without bootlooping.

Thank you so much for the reply. I am just sticking with the stock Kernal for now, but I was interested in undervolting the kernal while it's in sleep mode and while charging to see if I can save battery life. I just tried SetCPU, but was not pleased with the constant SU pop ups. It was keeping my screen awake. I think I'll five AnTuTu a shot.
If I ever load a custom kernal, I'll know what to keep an eye out for.
I have completely given up on undervolting at this point, I never once saw a noticeable increase in battery life but I definitely ended up with a less stable phone.........

What we need are more custom kernels.
I have undervolted (Incredikernel with Incredicontrol) and it's quite stable and the battery life is pretty good. I can get 12 - 16 hours with the stock battery with medium usage (texting, browsing).
Interstingly, it was 10 - 12 with OnDemand. Interactive seems to be better.

Have you ever tried leaving all the settings exactly the same and NOT undervolting??
I would be willing to bet the battery life would be almost identical.
CPU Tuner is awesome also. Might be the best.

Actually, yes. It did make a difference. Not as significant as on the Incredible, although that may be a difference in HAVS vs SVS.
But what works for one may not work for all.

im hoping IMO ends up making a kernel for us. i know he makes them for the thunderbolt.
I'm pretty content with Inredikernel. I'm sure Chad is going to hit us with something awesome soon.

AOKP MR1 Milestone 1 battery life

I have a i9300 and I really like this ROM, has everything i need except one thing: My battery is going out pretty quickly compared to previous ROMs i used (Foxhound for example).
I want to keep using it, so is there a good way to get better battery life? I'm using the default kernel that comes with the install because I dont know which ones would work with this ROM.
Any sugestions guys?
Thanks!

You can try to flash a Kernel that supports underclocking and undervolting of your CPU like the Temasek Kernel. Also keep an eye on what causes the massive battery drain. You can install a CPU monitoring app to see what`s using your CPU the most.
Also what do you mean by battery drain? Do you make it through the day?

It's not really a drain, but I barely get through the day.. while with the same use i would end my day with 40% with foxhound.
In the normal battery control it says its 40% android use..
