i have like a 5 year old wifi router but it seems to be only okay on the galaxy s3. i get fair connection most of the time in my house (especially the third floor). anyone else see it not be spectacular?
Signal is fine. There seem to be some sleep issues though.
Put WiFi on its fine. Everything is speedy. Let phone sleep and come back and it works but is definitely slower like its connected but takes a fair bit longer to pull stuff up. Almost like packet loss but once it starts pulling stuff down its fast just takes a bit too long to spool up. Shut WiFi off and put it on and is fixed.
I'm using an older wrt54 which I think only had 2.5ghz. I've tried setting it to just use that but same results. Wpa2.
I heard the wifi connections on the SGS3 were kind of lacking, but happy to report that it connects fine to my router.
I have a Linksys E3000 Dual-Band Router.
Just fine, no issues at all. Usually pulling down about 25000mbps on average.

I seem to get good speeds but the signal strength indicator is always at 1-2 bars I have not once seen it get to full bars and on rare occasion I get 3 bars. This is in a location where my laptop gets full bars.
Works great on my end.

Wait... huh!? You mean 25,000 KILO-bits right? 25,000 MEGA-bits is a little far fetched...

Well so far I can't tell too much of a difference other than I'm having greater fluctuation of 3g speeds. 3g service is holding constant though. I live in an urban area and I still have the occasional 1x service, and like you said, this was not so on eclipse. I'd like to run more speed testing later as well. I will edit this post with screens of my tests. There is was a substantial difference in the fluctuations than normal.

I 'll reply back and tell you why I think that is. I'm driving home. That's kind of the reason I recommended in a rural setting

In my rural area I don't have many towers to select from. I thought if I could see if it works well in a rural area I might find a pattern. There is probably a few towers around your area since its urban so I thought maybe its making yours jump towers alot. I did speed tests about noon and I found it was consistantly 1.5-2mbps download. More so then that or swapping back and forth from 3g to 1x I was finding I got rid of my data hangups. That was the main issue for this mod.
I just did this yesterday so I'm still trying it out for long term results

Well, I'm in the same boat as you. It seems to me I have more than my share of data hangups. I'll give this a try for a few days and let ya know if it helps any.

Its cool I edited the post more I didn't think about how I worded it...sorry
I think 1x often is more cuz of the network. Have u tried *228 to update your prl *22899 auto updates both option 1 and 2 in the *228 menu but doesn't verbally say its updated when done but your screen will

Just updated. I've never hung around to even hear option 2 lol. Usually when I have to do this there are new roms or some problems to attend to.

I have found that so far I had decreased data hangups with this but speeds fluctuated a lot like Caden experienced.
Doesn't look like I can get anyone to duplicate my results. Editing out of op. Trial concluded. Thanks to those who tried it

I am using this and the 3g speed hack (used 10) all is good. 1500 k on speedtest depending on the nearest cell.
Thanks.
Try the mod in the dev forum....different lib but sounds like you have a good thing going
That's the 3g I ment. I live 3/4 of a mi from a Hub.
Edit What num head I WAS ON WIFI @ 2.5 MIPS!
That's 1.5 mips TO 1.7 mips on 3g.
I was trying out the task bar at the bottom - that is my excuse !
My friend threw her phone and now it forever says no service even though it has service is showings bars and an active 3g connection. She already bought a new phone so I wanna fix this and get a free back up. Any ideas?

Hmm from it being dropped? Its so odd it'll sit there at two bars and say no service but I can use 3g fine. Seems like something dumb happened.

Try this. Take the back cover off and then very gently pull the little golden tabs up a little. Also try pulling the sim card out and putting it back in.

Yea that did seem to help a bit. I got it to send a text but now once it has less than two bars it says no service even though its clearly in service with working data. Eh seems like its not worth the hassel of fixing and keeping.

so, over the past 2 weeks, the data on my phone would randomly drop out completely, then kick back in a few seconds later. it gradually got worse & decided to call verizon. beforehand, i tried the battery pull & then tried cleaning the antenna contacts(didn't work). i ended going through 5 service calls that did not go anywhere. they're supposed to call me back tomorrow & mentioned a phone exchange if the issue persists.
(btw i've been using the 2750 extended battery)
anyway, i decided to remove the extended battery & try going back to the normal for the hell of it. and that fixed the issue.... so now i just need to replace the extended battery door. i feel dumb for not trying it sooner, but also wonder why verizon never mentioned trying it.
I don't have an extender door and was having this issue. I reset the phone pulled the battery took my sim out and ad card. Put all back together and so far so good. Not sure what fixed it though.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA
I have the extended battery and while I don't have signal issues I might try soldering the contacts on the door a little to raise em up.
Also, do you use a case? That might help hold it together tighter.

If your near an lte area your phone is consistently trying to search for a signal, and when its searching it's sending information to make sure the phone is supposed to be activated on the network. That's the downfall of Long Term Evolution.

Hi guys, I just noticed that I can manage to reduce up to 2 bars from my wifi reception, just by placing my 2 hands on the both sides of the phone, like this (|) . Does this happen to you, too? Should I send it for repairs? Greets
It's normal. Hands blocking signal and both GSM&WiFi can drop even 2 bars.
Sent from my GT-I9305 using xda app-developers app
And is it normal to have around -60 dBm, when youre 4-5 meters form the router, but in the same room?
P.S. I ask all these question, because I had to send in my phone for repairs, cause of cracks in the silver bezel, and i dont know if they didnt mess up the antenna.
I think it's normal. I'm getting -70 dBm and router is just 2m away , through the wall tho.

Well, I will send it back if i know it's really something wrong with the antenna. Thats why I'm asking the people, if its normal or not.

Any masking of the antenna will have an effect on reception, and that is pretty much what they will say at a guess......it's not like you walk around using your phone clasped in both hands like that any way, so I really don't get your issue?

Youre completely right. I just wanted to ask, if I have a problem with the antenna or everything is because of the hands So its normal to have -60 or more dBm, when I'm 4-5 meters from a router?

Haha funny guy - not
I was wondering what people were getting as far as mbps with Verizon in their area. Like what is the highest you have got. I was using my wifi and did a text this one day and got like 10. Something and I wanted to try my data on Verizon. I was very shocked to see the speed on got seeing as how I wasn't at one time get any more then maybe 10mbps. Well I was so shocked on what I got that I took a picture to show people and wanted to see if anyone got around this or more or close to it.

I usually get about 24Mbps down and 15 up. There are some small spots here in Detroit that I can get up to 65 Mbps down.
Here's my most recent. Which is actually higher than usual. I'm in Portland Maine
