So I am on stock but somehow, KIES wont work. It keeps saying connecting, but wont go further than that.
USB debugging is unchecked so I am sure that it not the problem. I heard T-Mobile for ICS upgrade, so I just wanted to be prepared for ICS update for ATT, but idk, why KIES is not working.
Any suggestions?
Bent USB prong in the phone? I've had to adjust mine several times since I got it launch day. Or hardware failure. When my USB was bent it could still charge via a wall charger

yeah I think it works when i use at a certain angle.
I am trying to go back to the stock rom and hopefully i can return it, but for some reason Odin is not recognizing it. I mean the yellow box of COM:0 does not show up in the "I777UCKH7-CL503881-No-BL.exe"
Do you know the reason for this?
Missing driver.
IIRC I believe you were supposed to install KIES and another Samsung driver...but I remember using my phone on a netbook without it and it worked...
Try installing the USB driver on the official samsung website? I can't post links yet or I would link it...

There can be multiple possible reasons. You've eliminated some of them. Could be a failing usb port on the phone, bad cable, etc.
If you can't get usb to work, you can flash back to stock using mobile odin. I assume you are rooted. Just download the one-click downloader to your phone over wifi, or use dropbox or something to get it onto your phone. Mobile odin will recognize and flash from the one-click downloader. There is even a guide in the general section on how to do this.

Creepy just posted this while I was getting you the link for the guide to return to stock with no PC: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1691659.
I returned to stock, and I think I figured out the problem as well.
The problem I am quite sure is the USB port on the phone. Like I said, when I keep the USB cable connected at a certain angle, it works just fine.
I will just have to live with it now I think because ODIN displays custom binary installed and the count is 2, so I dont think ATT will let me exchange the phone for a new one.

ehhh, its worth a try. Thats a hardware failure, the one that samsung is known for. Mine is starting to go out too.
I've returned 1 rooted phone with this issue, and warranty'd 1 rooted one that had a broken LCd.
These were Infuse's but same damn samsung problem.

Yeah I am surprised these hardware problem are so common.
No wonder most people are crazy about Apple sells so many iPhones
I had the very same issue as you are describing.
All you need to do is tweak the USB port a little. Did mine about 3 or 4 months ago and have not had to touch it since.
Use a small precision screw driver, fold a couple layers of Kleenex over the tip and gently bend it towards the screen side of the phone.
It WILL work perfect after that.

I did that like two times already.
I even flashed a different stock Rom. I mean I started with The kernel + rooted UCKH7
but then since it didnt work, I tried Kernel + cache + rooted UCKK6 package from:

I don't know how many times I posted because of this, but I think I'm done trying to fix it.
My phone, regardless of ROM, computer, or cable, etc, will isn't seen by any computer
I've installed all the drivers (through HTC sync) multiple times and on multiple computers. I've tried new roms, stock roms, nothing. New cables old cables, nothing. I've even formatted my SD cards and tried that way, nothing. I've tried the wireless ADB, and I get "<waiting for device>" which of course is never going to be found. I don't really think there's anything else I can do at this point but assume that it's my phone's USB port is damaged, can I replace that though?
Any ideas? And also someone could tell me about replacing hardware on this phone, that'd be great.
Thanks anyone.

Yes
All I know is that in my experience my phone stopped showing when I installed HTC drivers. It only came back up when I reinstalled windows. Try more computers before you determine it as a physical defect

I have tried 5, and I'm positive it isn't a problem with any of them.
If it charges over USB I have a hard time thinking the USB port has issues... There is one common denominator over the 5 computers you have tried
I had the same issue, unfortunately it was an issue with the USB port. I went through many, many cables and PCs ( xp, vista, win7) and I finally gave up. Called big red and got a warranty replacement

Computer 1: very old, used 3 other phones, all no problems, ReZound isn't seen
computer 2: not used much, used 1 other phone with it, ReZound ins't seen
Computer 3: Brand spanking new, ultimate specs, fresh driver intallation, ReZound isn't seen (also had 2 different software versions installed - Win 7 Home Premium and Ultimate)

Nothing, the phone doesn't even realize it's being connected, although if you restart the phone with a cable plugged in (whether or not it's plugged into a wall or computer) the phone pops up with the options to charge only, etc. None of the options do anything though.

Why can't you? It's time consuming but you can. Run the ruu to get yourself back to stock. Lock the bootloader and s-on. Then you will be stock, unrooted and bootloader will say either relocked or tampered or whatever. Root it. S-off with junipbear but do not install the modified hboot. Then ruu again. You will now be completely stock, unrooted and bootloader will say locked. Worked perfectly fine for me.

If your phone doesn't realize it's plugged in, then you got a defect.
Verizon usually doesn't check for unlock/root and many people have successfully gotten replacements for rooted phones.

Some computers just don't play well with Odin, Casual, Hemidall, and/or the Note 2. On my work computer I've done everything under the sun to get it going with Casual, and it just fails on one item or another. However a second computer at work and one of my home computers work like a champ. You might just have two bummer machines for the process. When it does work, it is a thing of beauty.
If I were you I wouldn't go back to the DNA. I really love that phone, but I haven't once regretted switching to the Note 2. Once you get used to the size, things like the stellar battery life and availability of customization options come into focus.

So seems like a firmware/software issue. Is there any way to flash firmware without using usb to pc? Because it won't recognize the usb at all.

Weird problem. Not sure if it will work but you can try "flashify" from the play store to flash firmware, etc without usb. Keep us posted on your results.
Also see if you can access it through bootloader. You might be able to RUU. Alternatively, factory reset and install ROM in recovery. Or try side adb in recovery..

I have tried three different HTC branded charger/cable combinations. With no luck while booted up. I charged to 100% while shut off.
I have been running this combo for a week or something. Ever since the firmware hit the forums. And had no issues until two nights ago when this first started giving me grief... so I don't know what has caused it.
I also posted this over in the international forums and there's a guy over there with the same issue.

Lol. Now I'm not sure what to do. I reverted back to stock rom and recovery and then realized the touch drivers I have aren't compatible.... But I am booted up and plugged into the pc and it is charging but not coming up on the pc as a device. I don't know if debug mode is on because I am stuck at the first setup screen... Unless the OTA adapter screwed up the USB connector pins for data but not power, then you should be able to recover. However like stated there has been a few reports of failed USB connectors.
Does there seem like there is any damage to the usb pins in the connector on the phone?
Did you make sure to have the HTC device drivers installed on your PC before trying ADB. Do you have a Windows 7 PC to try?

So far I have tried on win8 winxp and Ubuntu.on the windows pcs the drivers were definitely installed. No dice on any of them. I am thinking the connector must be messed up. I can't see anything obvious looking at it but the fact that on three pcs one of them running Linux didn't find the phone but will charge it is pretty definitive. I don't have the money to pay for repairs due to having "tampered" with the phone(even though it doesn't say that) it is an AT&T phone with s-off and unlocked and a 1.55 hboot and has a inverted splash screen. Pretty obvious...

Yep, then it seems the pinouts on the USB connector have been damaged. Bummer.
On the plus side consider this: AT&T will probably still give you device exchange without charging you a fee. First, they mostly don't care about users modding their phones. Secondly there are so many exchange requests coming into them for the One, that all the defective units will just be sent back to HTC directly by AT&T and at that point HTC is not going to bother to go back to AT&T and say listen this list of devices were modified. If they did, that would create a backlog on work for AT&T to match the records to owners and then contacting them and trying to prove that the user did this so far removed from the exchange that it doesn't make business sense to them.
I have seen AT&T users report that they have sent in devices that were extremely modified and obvious, but AT&T proceeded with the exchange anyway because they would rather keep you as a happy customer than spending time trying to prove what you did was the only cause of the failure. Users have even sent back total bricks that they created by doing something stupid and AT&T still replaced the device without question.
When you modded the phone, that basically ended AT&T's obligation to help you with any service/software related issues, but the modding did not void the hardware warranty and it seems your device has a hardware issue that was unlikely caused by the software modifications.
The key in your case would be to do the defective device exchange via phone/mail and not via the walk in device service center.
If you don't want to do this because of the possible risk of flagging by them, then I may be willing to buy your bricked device if you are not going to do anything with it. PM if interested.
Was on Bonsai rom and was running fine. Noticed the phone acting kind of weird the last couple days and thought it may be related to Xposed or some of it's modules so I deleted all of them. That didn't fix the problem. The problem being that the battery icon in the the notification bar would randomly flicker and with it so would the touch keys. I'm pretty sure this only happened when I was attempting to charge my phone (in my car.)
Instead of getting the usual phone charging indication in the status bar I either got nothing or it would say that the phone was connected to the dock (WTF?) I ended up restoring a nandroid of an older Bonsai rom and for a few hours there were no problems but then it started happening again. At times I would get a reboot from just plugging in the USB cable to charge the phone (car or wall) Other times the phone would just freeze up.
I then did a full wipe and tried MAXIMUS rom. I plugged in the USB cable and attempted to sync the phone to my PC as I have done countless times just days ago but I was now getting a message that my USB device is not recognized. I did another clean flash and tried Steve's Odexed rom. Same story more or less. If I attempt to sync the phone to the PC I get the same not recognized message.
Here are the steps I have taken:
- tried numerous USB cables
- tried numerous charging ports (wall/car/PC)
- tried numerous roms (none will let my PC see the phone)
- reinstalled the Samsung USB drivers
I'm at the point where I'm thinking this is a hardware issue and I probably have to return this phone. However, before I jump the gun I wanted to see if anyone has input on this. I appreciate any advice u guys may have.
My initial thought s maybe a cheap car charger, then a bad USB cable, but you've already eliminated those options. When you backup /restore your backups, are you including the efs.? I also remember the option in Wanam to keep old efs, was that option checked while it was installed?

I'm pretty sure that when I backup and restore I have all the boxes check off. However, I not only used backups. I did clean flashes on two separate roms but both had the same issue. I'm still on the fence as to whether this is software or hardware

Have you tried flashing the MJ4 firmware to see if that straightens things out?
I would suggest to odin the stock rom found here if you can get your computer to recognize your device in download mode..

I may try that as a last resort. My fear is that I won't even be able to access Odin mode because the PC won't recognize my phone. We'll see...

Hopefully somebody can come up with a solution for you.
If it fails to recognize your device in Odin mode, you should be able to remove the battery, reinsert it and reboot to your system. No harm, no fowl.

One more thing before I resign for the night... Maybe try those things you have already tried with your SD card removed. I'm hearing here and there about sd cards going bad causing issues you wouldn't normally think were related.

Sounds like a Windows driver issue. Could be unrelated to your phone.
What Version of Windows are you running? What do you see when you plug in your device when you go into Windows device manager?
Have you installed any new Android devices of the Nexus variety on your computer?
Alright, I'll assume that you're asleep. I agree, you may not want to do PC Odin if your computer isn't recognizing your device.
Go into device manager (right click on My Computer, select Manage, go to device manager from there). Do you see your device? Do you see any Android device? If so, do either have a yellow question mark adjacent the device name? Either way, delete the device if present, then reboot your PC.
Now plug your phone into your computer using a different USB port on the machine (cable we'll assume is fine). Your computer should automatically recognize the phone. If yes, profit.
Also check that USB debugging is set to on. If recognized and the phone is plugged in, deselect MTP device and choose the photo option. Then select MTP again.
If the above doesn't work, you can try rolling back drivers and reinstalling.
Let me know if this helps.

Mic, thanks for taking the time for taking a look at this Q&A. I'm on Windows 7. Under DEVICE MANAGER it says UNKNOWN DEVICE with a yellow triangle with a exclamation point inside. When I click on that icon this is what I get for device status: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
I went through all your steps but it hasn't worked. I get the same message in DEVICE MANAGER before and after doing your steps.
As far as the phone is concerned (running Steve's Odexed) it indicates that the phone is charging but it doesn't have the usual MTP message in the status bar. Simply indicates that it's charging.
Is it safe to assume this is a hardware problem with the phone? The only thing I can think of that could have caused this is the other day my car charger (part that goes in the phone) fell in some water that accumulated on the rubber car mat. I dried it off with a napkin and plugged it back into my phone. These problems happened a day or two after this incident. Not sure if it's the reason. I was leaning towards blaming it on Xposed modules that got updated.
Nope, Not Safe to Assume...

Hi, SantinoInc, let us hope that the car charger issue and your Code 43 is a cum hoc ergo propter hoc (with this, therefore because of this) fallacy, or a non-correlated set of phenomena that, though happening contemporaneously, does not mean (though one is enticed to infer) causality.
The Code 43 error is a Windows issue, and if you are using a laptop (I hope), turn off the computer, take out the battery, let it discharge for 10 minutes, slap your laptop battery back in, boot up, plug in the phone, it's alive (I'm hoping). The USB controller on your computer actually holds a small amount of charge for rapid use when the computer is started, which can corrupt the port and driver. Draining the charge and pulling the battery is required to get rid of the problem.
Report back and let us know if this works for you.
unfortunately my computer I've been using is a desktop. However, I do have an old laptop laying around somewhere and will try that. This is driving me nuts already. I wish I knew for sure what the issue is.

Google the error code you flipped me. You'll find that it most certainly looks like a USB controller issue. Tom's Hardware and Microsoft look to have the info you need, bro.

I had this issue as well, not with the same phone symptoms, but in windows.
Remove the driver, go to samsung's site, download and re-install the latest driver. Also make sure you are connecting directly to the ports on your motherboard and not on the front of the PC or a USB hub on something like your monitor. Also make sure you are using the cable provided by samsung if possible. 3rd party cables for some reason can cause issues. (Thank god for standards to specifications
If you are still on MI5, use the thread I created here for help in getting to MJ4:

I have tried all of your suggestions (including Windows error code 43 in Google and trying those recommendations) nothing has worked. Of course I can't find either of the two laptops I own to test this POS phone out. If I get the same error another PC I'm going to take the phone to Sprint to get it replaced. I'm really feeling that this is hardware related considering I have not installed any new phone drivers to my PC at all and have made no significant changes to the PC.
Agreed...

Agreed; any PC would be suffice to determine if it is phone related. I'd almost be inclined to hop in the car and hit a Best Buy store and be done with it, like now....
Best of luck.
