How do I remove the 4 icons on the lock screen or change it to something else?
To change icon the lock screen ;security - lock screen options - shortcuts ....
wow thanks. I just got this phone last night and still trying to figure things out lol.
Do you know if we can put the jelly bean rom to this thing. I got the phone rooted last night. Using the CWM to backup the stock rom. But not sure if I install a custom rom and if something happen to it, I can restore the stock rom from CWM, do you know ?

CWM is a powerful tool that helps us in managing our Galaxy S3, useful for troubleshooting system stability, the flash ROM and firmware. Zip, creating backups of our software and the configuration, thus, restore in case of need. 5) Backup and Restore:
- Backup: Create a complete picture of the whole system in the microsd.
- Restore: Restore your system to the exact moment when you created the backup (see above), the microsd.
- Backup to internal sdcard: Create a complete picture of all the system's internal memory GS3.
- Restore from internal sdcard: Restore the system to the exact moment when you created the backup (see above), the internal memory of GS3.
- Advanced restore from internal sdcard: Allows the restore image created in the microsd and lets you choose which "parts" to restore (praticamnete useless).

Titanium Backup will do everything you asked for (I recomment the Pro version and you MUST be rooted).
It will backup and restore apps and data, and will also freeze or uninstall any app.
It's on the market for free, but I really do recommend paying the small amount for the full version.

+1 Ti is one of the few apps I would recommend to anyone that wants to flash roms. You can backup all your apps and settings before a flash and then restore quickly and easily. The freeze function is very handy also. IMO you buy this one and never look back. A MUST HAVE.
A nand backup will be used to restore the phone as it already exists. It does not backup apps and settings specifically but you can pull apks and such out of one. Basically you do a nand before you start playing around and if you screw something up or just take an instant dislike to the new rom you flashed you can go into recovery and restore that nand and your phone will be just like you never did anything. It will not however back up your radio.
What I do is backup a few apps data separately and then go into Ti and backup all my apps and system data. I boot into recovery and I make a nand. Then I go over to usb storage and I move the entire contents of the sd over to my computer. This will have both the nand and the Ti backup on it. I delete the entire internal storage after I have taken a quick look to make sure that the backup on my pc is good. This gives me a completely fresh base to start a new rom from. Once I have the new rom flashed I move my ti backup over and restore. I then move the other data that the backup contains that I want back on the phone over and I'm up and running. I keep my music and other stuff that is just going to move from one flash to the next on my sd card as it isnt wiped in the process even if you do a hard reset and it can just stay there without the hassle of backing it up and restoring it. Do not delete your backup until you are sure that you have everything you may want back across to your phone. I usually keep it until the next rom when I start the process over with a new backup.
@JJEgan - which part
@johncmolyneux ,@krabman - thnx guys
so int. usb storage will also be wiped in the process, right?
also can u clarify
- How to get cwm recovery menu screen from PHONE Switched OFF state(like we see by using the function from cwm app -> reboot into CWM rec)
- how can i delete samsung hub apps by editing system and framework files(or if any other file for that matter)?
(assuming i have req explorer)
Last night, I installed TW 4.5/TW Manager. I did a ClockworkMod backup first. I decided to restore it.
However, after restoration, the phone is in a factory state. Save for my lock pattern, which it remembered, the phone is in first-run setup mode, all my home screen layouts are gone, all my apps are not in the aop drawer except those the G2 ships with. Contents of the virtual SD card like photos are still there.
I tried restoring my only other CWM backup (a November backup that previously *restored ok* to undo a MIUI test, for example), but this, too, now boots in to the same state.
What has gone wrong here?
And is there any way of getting back the system that I assume/d is/was in the CWM backup files?
If I can't guarantee I can restore a CWM backup, it makes the world a very scary place to be.
I am a newb here but learn fast so... Situation is, I have moved to Cyanogenmod9 and love it. I have done a lot of tweaking and arranging to my liking and am tired of all that. Problem is I need the info written on Snote files in the original ObjectionICS backup. Can I get inside that backup and extract those files or do I have to revert back to that backup, write down the Snote info I need, and then go back to the future..lol...and reinstall the backup I am making now, of C9? Also, will my "recovery mode" back up to internal sd card...return EVERYTHING to how it is now? I mean like disc image identical? Or will I have to reimport contacts, assign wallpapers, lockscreen widgets etc etc etc? Also, am I correct in making it back up "to internal sd card"? or should I have just hit yes to the first menu item "backup"??? Sorry if I'm being confusing or stoopid....
here this might help:
If you go to: wiki.cynogenmod.com/wiki/Howto:_Using_theRecovery (sorry but cannot post external links yet... )
Now if you used NANDroid backup then:
[NANDroid]A utility, accessible through Recovery Mode, that allows you to backup the device and restore to the exact condition at backup.

If you used CWM Recovery to backup before you went to CM9 then I believe you can backup as it would only backup applications and settings of said applications also backing up system data like sms mms emails contacts etc..
I would really suggest checking out TitaniumBackup Root Pro
I would also suggest that you also get these apps as to help facilitate better tools for backing up stuff, managing roms, and just all around must need applications for your android phone.
ClockworkMod Recovery Pro as it allows you to switch ROMs and works good with TitaniumBackup.
root explorer file manager the best file manager i know of for android allows you to easily move files around the file system and change file permissions also checkout link2sd for linking installing apps to external sd and easy switching of applications to and from internal and external storage.
I did my first ever flash recently. I flashed omega, though before I flashed I used titanium and did a batch backup of apps+system data. Though after flashing and restoring apps only from titanium, nothing was on the homescreen except for the stock stuff. So I had to manually get apps and put them back onto the homescreen and in folders (massive headache).
I want to flash a new rom though is there a way of backing up and restoring so everything stays in the spot they were previously in before flashing?
I'd like to know this too.
the backup defaults to /sdcard/TitaniumBackup
that is internal sdcard
if you internal sdcard got wiped out, then nothing to restore. copy it out to a safe place.
If you are pretty sure your internal sdcard is not wiped out, use a file explorer and browse it, does it have files in it?
You can then go to TitaniumBackup , menu | preferences | backup folder location
if it is not pointing correctly, hit Detect
the select what is detected and "use the current folder"
I'd like to know this too. I have Titanium Backup too but am unsure how to utilise it fully. Right now I find myself having to manually configure all my application settings after flashing a new ROM.
In my (limited) experience, Titanium won't restore apps to your home screen. It can only restore your apps and their data/settings. When you install a new rom if you do a full wipe you lose your home screen, but if you do a partial wipe (dalvik) you do not. If you are flashing a new release of the same rom you can usually do a partial wipe but if you are flashing a new rom you will probably have to do a full wipe.
But I'm no expert.

I think you understood wrong. I'm not asking about the location of the backup file. I'm asking about how I can do a backup and restore so once I flash a new rom I don't have to put all my apps back onto home screen and in folders again. I want it to restore do that all the apps and widgets stay in the position they were before I flashed.

yeah, now I realised that your problem wasn't the backup folder.
Well, for Apex Launcher that I use, if I backup Apex itself with data, I restore it using Titanium and I get back the icons on home screen, and all widgets.
Even before I restore the apps itself! So I start seeing icons that are actually unclickable.
Not sure about Touchwiz, what to backup.
I've been using Mybackup Root from Google Play which can backup the homescreen which works fairly well. The one thing that didn't work in my case was the widgets didn't show as supposed.
Can titanium backup home screen layout?

Just use a launcher that has a home screen backup facility(most!) ...I use nova
.....and now you are on a custom Rom, do a nandroid backup from recovery(full system image)
ok i think I found out how to do it with titanium backup.
I've been doing some searching and people have said that in the titanium backup there is a file called TWLauncher and other have said its called TouchWizLauncher. On my backup it has Touchwiz Home is this the same as TWLauncher and TouchWizLauncher?
Im guessing it is but just wanted to make sure.
Hi guys,
I've got 60 phones to setup, and that's just the biginning. I looked for some solutions to mass deploy them, the fastest way possible. I of course already know titanium backup and applications like that, but i would prefer not to root phone...
I was pretty confident about a nandroid backup : flashing the recovery of the phone is really quick, and i would just have to backup on card or on usb on the go on the master phone, and to restore the backup on all the phone remaining. But it didn't worked as expected, it happens that on each phone, twrp is generating backup in a folder named something like "420khg66g6cca200" and which is different on each phone, and when you put the card in another phone, this one doesn't see the main backup.
I of course tried to sneak arround and generate a backup on the second phone, which i replaced with the content of the first one, but the phone doesn't even boot anymore.
I used twrp because i dind't find another recovery avaiable for the phone, which is by the way a samsung Xcover 3 also known as SM-G388F.
I tried to backup only system, system image, and data and to restore it and the phones is stuck on boot screens.
I tried to backup again with boot partition, same thing happen'd. There's something i don't understand tho, there's some warning about /system partition which can't be mounted when i look around on the recovery of the slave phone.
I'm on stock rom, no root. I looked for similar post (really), but there's mostly guys which make backup / restore on the same phone, and i didn't find my answer.
My questions are : is there someone's who did this before ? Why the phone doesn't boot anymore ? Is there something that's making the backup unrecoverable on another phone ?
In this case, is there anyway to bypass that ?
Thank you by advance.
So...
We've done more tests, and when we only select the data partition, it does what we want.
So what I've done to deploy 50 phone :
- Prepared my "master" phone with all my apps and parameters
- Gone in TWRP to backup, saved the folder inside TWRP/BACKUPS/cde0654364576****/ (the generated folder), so saved the folder inside UNTOUCHED on my computer (for unknow reason, if i use it once to restore a phone, i can't use it again on another phone, so keep a copy somewhere)
- Boot to twrp on the slave phone, generate a backup to also generate the name folder
- Boot on system phone, delete what's inside the folder, and copy / past the previously generated backup from the master phone
- Boot again in twrp end restore. Reboot and that's done, you're slave phone should be the same as the master.
If someone find this thread, don't hesitate to ask more details.
