Why is my phone awake so much. - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

This is bone stock with no apps. Just got the phone yesterday. I unplugged it at 100% and went to bed.

Why is it waking up so much? 100 down to 88 in 6.5 hours while I'm asleep feels kinda steep.

In the average.

"Maps" could be google latitude? I just disabled that myself today, gonna see how it goes... I've been getting pretty ****ty battery life though, not impressed

Think so? I don't remember my last phone waking up so many times. It looks like each wakeup was short but a lot of them. I well ill see how it lasts throughout the day.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2

Maybe..... Because you had wifi on and have yet to tone down the sync settings. And since wifi is on its waking to since pretty often.
But the real problem probably is that the phone is brand new it takes a few days for battery reporting to calibrate properly. After a few days im sure you'll be fine.
Here's mine right now

Once again its because you have wifi on and something is syncing or like checking for emails or updating weather or caching maps... Theres soo much stuff that runs unless you turn each one and data/wifi off

Just posting this here to see if other people have a similar problem. I haven't gotten a chance to look at the partial wake lock issue in detail, but I restored my own apps via TB so it may be caused by my own doing.

mine on the first night. charged to 100% unplugged then went to sleep. stupid exchange lol. i set it up, then deleted it after it kept asking for permissions but it still killed my battery

Mine seems to drain almost 20% a night... juice defender brought it down to 5%

[Q] Did you fully charge battery before your first power on?

Just wondering what the spread is on people that were patient enough to wait for that green LED light before powering on your device as HTC's support site recommends.
I didnt. lol
I was playing with the thing until it almost died, then plugged it in and kept playing.
Couldnt help myself.
I just got mine and it's been charging for about 40 minutes. I'm DYING to turn it on!!
I wasn't. I don't have any issues with the led not turning green either. I ran it to shutdown day one and all seems well as far as battery. In fact, I'm impressed with the battery life which has gotten better over the past few days.

If i had that kind of restraint I wouldn't have stayed up late to order the phone
My guess is that "No, I powered it on immediately." is going to take it.
It's been on since day one, save a few restarts.

I didn't. I got 2 days on a single charge with heavy usage. I'm happy.
nope, got it and started using it for phone calls for about an hour till i got home then plugged it in and got all my apps downloaded and everything else set the way i wanted it.
Yep, came home Friday and got it off my doorstep to plug in. Got home 4 hours later to a full battery and enjoyed.
What is recommended for the battery? Should you start it when you first get it and drain the initial charge then charge it? Or fully charge it before using it?

Did you have to calibrate the battery like you did on the Evo?

Interesting battery drop off over the past few days (pics)

Hey all,
Something is cutting my battery in half by midday where that never used to happen until evening with this extended battery on my Rezound.
I haven't even made any calls or used the camera. I would say I was actually using the phone for est than 1/2 hour collectively. No new apps have been installed. I attached some screen caps.
Interesting....
Thanks,
Matt!

Click display, how long has your screen been on for? I just got 29 1/2 hours on my last charge. I have the extended battery also.
Display was on for 1.5 hours on Auto.

Wait a minute.... That's I'm possible. That means my screen was on for roughly 1/5 of the time that my phone has been off of the charger. No way. Super lights use today (maybe 30 minutes tops) and i shut the screen off every time I holster. I haven't seen the Screens on by itself at all either...? Hhmm... Nothing is running that would activate the screen either....

Oddly enough, my Wife told me that her phone did the exact same thing today.... I wonder if it could be something with the network in the area!

OK....
Today I used my phone a lot more and it has been off of the charger for much longer and the battery is down only a FRACTION compared to yesterday. I am in the same areas I was in as far as coverage and everything. Below is a pic to compare to my OP.
Could it be network related?
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Matt!

There have been LTE issues around the country the last two days.
Sent from my HTC
LTE 4G Rezound
I had this issue yesterday!! I was at home all day using my wifi and my battery drained big time. I was at 63% by 2pm so I had to charge it since last night was my hubby and my anniversary and we were going out!! I had not even done anything on my phone. I had been busy knitting (haha yes I knit) LOL
I've had the same issue, I put my phone in airplane mode to see if it'd help. I believe it lasted much longer, unless its just the placebo affect, while occasionally taking it off to check for any messages. It's less than practical, but it works.
That new curve looks a lot more like my typical curve. I average 28-35 hours on my extended battery. I leave it unplugged at night now just because, lol.

Could be the fact that your screen is turning on in your pocket. Because it's in your pocket and you have auto brightness, it would make your screen be at 100%. Try the app screebl and see if that helps

I spent a lot of my time outside this weekend so I would say my phone usage was "lite" but I got over 36 hours and still had 30% left. Today I've been on it all day and im at 55% and I've been off the charger for 10 hours. The battery is a LOT better than my OG Evo but I'm SERIOUSLY impressed with this phones ability to "sleep"
I'm reading 59% after 7 hours and my first day of usage. My EVO 4G would have kicked the bucket hours ago. Though I haven't ran any hogging apps today, I have had my phone on a lot.

Also, I'm not sure if anyone has noticed, but in the sprint zone app, under my device and power, it lists what is using power the most and has a quick button for putting your phone into a low power mode for saving battery. Neat.

I really want to test to see how my phone handles everything at once. This is not how i usually use the phone at all. I normally do everything manually when i need it or just not link it to my phone period. I am liking these kinda of results.
Screen autobrightness
4hrs screen on time
2 emails push
Facebook push
Weather update every hour
switched between wifi and 3g but stayed on 3g most of the time
Took lots of pictures out with the family and uploaded some to facebook
This is crazy!

[Q] High Screen Battery Usage Normal?

Screen always uses a lot of battery power, but if you wanna reduce this, you can lower you brightness.
My screen always uses the bulk of my battery. Even with brightness almost all the way down. I had been getting about the same battery life as you with minimal usage. Then I bought a 1900mah Anker battery and get 14 hours with 50% still left.

Lol I don't use that either or ever take my sync off, I depend heavily on my emails, especially for school and my little phone fixing venture. :cyclops:
Please note that those values are relative. If for example wifi uses up more energy than the screen, the screen will show a lower % value although using the same amount of energy. So in one of the previous Screenshots I would be rather more concerned about my idle usage being higher than the screen usage

Share Battery life and screen on time

I am just curious to know what battery life and screen on time people are getting on their lg g2 in different ROms they are using. It would be great if you post your screen shoot and also tell us what you been doing and whther you are using any battery saving apps or not.
I am on cloudystock 4.4.2 ROMs and these are my battery statistics. wifi is always on and use whatsapp or surf web most time , brightness level to 50 percent and no battery saving apps or greenify etc. These are my screen on time after full charge and never charged phone in between
