loving the phone!
I have 2 physical issues and i just wanted to know if anyone is experiencing it..
1) my home button makes a noticeable CLICK like it's sticking to something.
2) i was trying out the motions for TW and when i was trying the Shake to scan motion i heard a knocking.. so i did it again and again.. something inside my phone is moving back and forth ....
EDIT: never mind... dumb moment.. it;s the battery shifting around..
but issue 1 is still there
phone operates fine..
If i return it.. maybe someone on Rogers can help..
1) i am over the 30mins/50mb limit but only had the phone for a week.. do i just call in then?
2) my flash counter is at 1 since i rooted it before the no trip counter method was released.
3) if i flash my phone back to stock using the stock recovery from the forums will it trip my counter again?

The click on the home button is on mine too. Sounds like cheap quality to me.

hey guys,
i bought a secondhand galaxy s II yesterday. when i first got it, it had MIUI on it.
i personally hate this so i went to flashing straight away. first a lot of research on the differences with Desire HD and Hero but when i had enough confidence the party could start!
what i did is try to flash exynos 7.0 through CWM 4.0. this didn't work because the volume keys don't work!! so eventually i flashed it using ROM manager and this worked it finally started flashing! but now i forgot to flash exynos 3.5 base system file first and went straight to exynos v7.0.zip
and now i'm stuck in bootloop but can't get in to download mode... because of the volume keys.
is there anything known about disabling volume keys or that people disconnect them because they press them all the time.
or is there a software way of forcing it into download mode (I am aware of the JIG way but looks to sketchy to me right now and i don't know if it works for S II!)
many thanks

have you tried odin?
I'm not an expert, but it seems to me you need repair the volume keys... I can't imagen there being a option to disable the volume keys on your phone.

no there isnt...best thing is to take it back to the person he got it from and get his money back i say
how can i try odin without volDown/download mode? is this possible? if so tell me how!
i am not going to take it back because i knew from the beginning there should be something wrong with it.
i thought it was because it had MIUI on it. it's a long story so lets skip it okay.
my question is does the 301k resistor trick work with sgs II???
Are you remembering to hold in the home button aswell as the power and volume buttons?

yes i am, but as i said earlier the volume buttons don't work
if you knew there was a problem with it why did you buy it? sorry that just does not make any sense...you need to get the volume keys repaired..thats the only solution i can think of..sorry
Search USB jig and use that to try to get into download mode or take it to a service centre your only choices .

because it was a lot cheaper! and the guy told me he bought it from someone else and there wasn't a original fw on it and it said that there was no sim card in the phone....but i knew this was because of miui together with unlocking your sim card too early! so i figured lets buy this thing and save some money! but now it seems that the volume keys are not working....but if you don't know you sh*t will you stay out of it please. the next guy told me to look for a JIG this sounds more promising doesn't it? i'm going to make one and we'll see what makes any sense.
i'm sorry if you feel insulted that's not my intention but i feel you are not bein very helpfull here. again sorry i am getting a bit frustrated from this whole thing i thought the S II wasn't give me a hard time because of the unlocked bootloader and such.

if you thought i was having a go then i apologise. but i was not..even if you do use a jig to fix it you will still have problems with the volume buttons. Hence why i said to either take it to the guy you got it from or take it back to samsung..Im not trying to make fun out of your pain bud, i actually want to help.
Use the jig stick the stock firmware on it and send it to them and say its yours. dont say you got it from a friend cause im not sure but they properly would not fix it under the warranty.
hope everything goes ok and keep us updated
My last phone (hd2) had a broken volume button also. I brought it to a local phone repair company and they fixed it in a hour for 35 euro, so I think there is still hope for your phone

Im on sprint and i do get the click. All most sounds like it is sticking if it its not normal. I have 60 days to take back to bestbuy. So would be good to know if other people getting the same thing.

I get the clicking to. First thing I noticed about the phone. Might exchange it for that and the ink spots to Best Buy. How are some guys getting a 60 day return policy?
I have the American version of the S3. It was successfully rooted, but stock rom. I was looking into CM9, and noticed that Rom Manager said they supported the SGS3 and CM9. I installed Rom Manager and chose the option for it to reboot for me. However at that point it turned off and won't come back on. NOTHING. No light when I plug it in, can't get it into download mode. I've pulled the battery, replaced it, tried CWM button combination as well as Download mode button combination. PLEASE help.
The phone had about 25-30% battery at the time. I've got it plugged in, and I'm holding out hope it may at least get into download mode once it has more juice.
Man sorry to hear that. While I've had my share of issues with Rom Manager (that's why I quit using it), I've never heard of it bricking a device. What were you having it do when this happened? Did you flash a recovery or Rom. Or were you just rebooting or rebooting to recovery. What custom recovery did you have installed?
________________
Just Flash It !!!
you might be right, cause when you got battery life lower than 50% rom manager tend to recognize it and stop flashing i think.
i bricked my t999 2 days ago because of over flashing hahaha. i flash at least 3 times a day from cm9 to cm10 to stock anything i can find. The phone still work but its got a corrupted IMEI and the IMEI show a 0 instead of the original number.i can't return it because it past 14 days. i just gotta wait for someone to find a fix i guess. Why can't i brick it before the 14 days.... sigh...
when you got your fix make sure you back up your un-corrupted EFS folder. i learned my lesson by not to. with the AT&T and T-mobile versions it tend to happen more. It is random also. so back up you efs folder and nandroid it.
well at least i can now continuing flashing and try out new roms and doesn't worry about bricking it "again".
i don't know maybe i will sell it for cheap...
anyway good luck bringing your phone back to life.
sounds like a brick to me
What does device manager show? If its QHSUSB DLOAD ur done. Otherwise post what it says. Also plug it in without a battery, bet it gets a red light.which i think also points to u bein screwed. and rom manager can brick you dont be fooled(quit using as well).
ouch, i think you might have possibly ended up flashing something for the international one? dont know much that could help you at this point, god knows if those download jigs still work for the iii if they could help you at all. You might be looking at either a jtag fix or a warrenty.
I never really saw a point to using rom manager easier to just flash cwm and look on xda for zips, not to mention it you have to pay to get like 3/4ths of the apps functionality even it seems.
I'm within 14 days of buying the phone. Can I take it back to AT&T and have them do anything?
It does have a red light if I plug it in with no battery.
I'm so scared. I bought a USB jig. Will that do anything? I can't have this be bricked.
if ur within the 14 days just go to at&t and tell them "the truth". u know how it got hot and froze and just wouldn't come back on. or how you woke up to the phone in this state. w/e works for you just play stupid and you've never heard of root before. as far as you know that's just some crazy new app that's out lmao. and no the jig is worthless here won't do anything for ya

To the guy within his 14 days, listen to this guy, “the phone got really hot, the screen turned off, and now the phone won't boot up.."
To the OP, sounds like your best bet is trying for a warranty claim or sending it to Samsung. Unfortunately you're the third person in two days that I've read has done this. The other two sent it to Samsung and they actually didn't charge them I believe.

So, I decided to stick with stock and what do I get? A phone that randomly stops working like I flashed a custom rom on it :X
All jokes and the sad situation aside, when plugged in i can get the Download Mode to stay open (else it closes after 3sec when not plugged in), figured I would try and flash the Stock Kernel to try and recover some of my app data but can only get to download mode so cant use recovery!
Can someone throw together an Odin flash-able Stock 4.1.2 Galaxy Note i717 Kernel together for me? Id like to try that before I outright flash over the entire rom through Odin!
Thanks!

ok, I read that you have seemingly more than ample experience here o XDA, so I want to give you the respect that is due, however you post is a wee bit confusing. maybe that's due to a lack of some other information.
let me ask a few questions.
is this phone new to you?
can you get to about phone info? what does it say?
I don't understand you download mode information..........
if you were trying t flash stock kernel, then your not on stock?
if you are on stock, then you HAVE stock kernel?
what recovery are you supposed to have?
no offense meant, but you HAVE pressed VOL UP & DOWN and POWER until vibe and logo then releasing POWER for download mode right?
again no offense, but sometimes the simplest things right.......

None taken been around the block a few times...
As for the phone, its basically in need of replacement by my thoughts, but I wanted to try and salvage some of my app data files:
WITHOUT the power plugged in, the unit does nothing but vibrate when I press the VOL Down, and any other key combos do not make the unit respond either.
When I remove the battery, then hold the VOL Down button... down... then put the battery back in, the unit will start in "Download mode" but even if I leave it on the screen or hit the up arrow to continue, after a few seconds it just shuts off and wont stay on.
However when I remove the battery, then hold the VOL Down, then plug in the adapter, it boots into download mode and doesnt shut off after a few moment's (however it wont start normally when I plug it in, just eternally vibrate).
The unit is an AT&T Variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note, specifically just the SGH-i717
The unit was/is running STOCK ROM+Kernel
I was making the request for the Stock Kernel for an Odin flash because when I had the Stock 4.0.4 I had a very identical situation occur (the difference being back then I could get and stay in download mode without using the power adapter) and used the Stock Odin Kernel from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506330
To get back into the unit and continue on without issue.
So the core of my post remains the same I need an Odin flash-able Stock AT&T 4.1.2 i717 kernel
*Your right, been here a while, I have tried again and again to grasp doing my own builds and all that other stuff when it comes to development and "do it yourself" and while I can fix a computer, build one, troubleshoot one, when it comes to Code... I am SO lost without a cause its not funny, so making the kernel file for myself is like asking me to walk on water when I am perfectly able to swim laps around someone who is ...
Sounds like you more than likely have a bad battery or a stuck power button. Mine had stuck on two separate occasions and just sits there vibrating and can't get it to boot or anything. Since I'm pretty sure you are out of warranty you can take a small screw driver and guitar pick to take it apart and use a little rubbing alcohol to clean the button.

kind of with RQUIETT............
after reading more detailed post, the first thing that came to my head was the stuck power button issue which has plagued many.
the battery, I have seen many have that too.
I am definitely not he brainpan to just whip up a kernel like it were a batch of cookies or something, I am still just curious as to why you keep going on about just the kernel, but to each there own.
good luck and keep us posted

if you are still curious then you failed to read my last post... reading not required I guess
Ill check the power button, but it definitely doesn't feel stuck, gives the wonderfully audible click still (been in an otterbox the whole time), I also had the local AT&T store order me a replacement battery, if not Insurance claim it will be.
Random thought, the thing that doesnt add up is that if its a stuck power button, then it would STILL turn off when plugged in to the AC/PC, which it doesnt... but Im willing to give it a try because If fear they will try and replace my wonderful 16:10 screen with a ****ty 16:9 one... (sorry, for all the wow of the GN2, its to NARROW for my use)

if anyone reads around here it is me, and I think its ok for me not to understand what needing a kernel alone is going to do for you. you came cross to me as a little harsh at someone who is trying to help and little demanding to expect someone to drop what they are doing just whip up a file for you flash in Odin.
I never claim to know everything here, and again, many times what I have to say (right or wrong) will spark someone else to chime in with a more educated answer.
but hey glad to try and help you anyway
My power button never felt stuck when it was. It did a lot of what you described when it did. Sometimes you can take it out of the case and tap on the back and it will free it up

I have also made bold and increased the size of the "confusing" subject matter answer for you.
Also pretty sure I never asked anyone to drop what they where doing either.
@rquiett: thanks, I will go ahead and try and disassemble it and see if thats the case, they wont be processing any claims requests until Tuesday anyway, weird stuff as its the first time I have left the Phone Stock since FJ's rom's.(the irony of a phone having an issue while on stock when I normally flash everything with a custom rom does NOT escape me)
your welcome
I blame Samsung then since you are on stock

Before we start i already asked a lot of people and search countless forums for this one so please hear me out.
I'm currently using S3 with baseband model I9300DXUGNB1 with Cyanogen 11 on it.
Whenever i open up my phone it doesn't have any signal for 20secs afterwards it will search and search and eventually if i'm gonna send a SMS or make a Call signal will appear and will disappear after doing those 2.
It's kinda bugging me out since i use my phone solely for Office work( i do my reports here ) and sometimes my manager can't contact me because of this problem.
Any solution or fix is highly appreciated.

1 take the back off and tighten all nine of the tiny screws......been said to help GPS......signal is signal.
2 restore to bone stock ROM. Make a call, take a trip, make a sandwich and let your hardware reset. Then go back to your custom rom.
3 never install a non downgradable boot loader if you have a choice.
I am assuming you are at&t and you called them to make sure ether are no outages in your area.

You don't have to post that quote in my thread. I will only create a thread if there's no possible matches on the search tab above. I think before i post.
I fixed the signal issue by replacing the whole board itself . Reflashed it with a stock 4.3 rom rooted and flashed boeffela kernel for sound. and it's working properly
Your gratitude is overwhelming, why bother asking a question that has only one answer then complaining when someone answers it?
Shrugs and walks away.
