Screen Scratch already? - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

Just got my phone yesterday via the mail. The back plate around the camera is chipped like the paint is coming off. Then my screen has very noticeable deep scratches in the screen above the button. I can run my fingernail across the cuts and it will catch thats how deep they are. Was wondering if anyone else got theirs like this and will att replace it for me?

Mine was fine. ATT should replace it for you.

Cool thanks

Dust under the screen...

Looks like I got one dot on the middle right side, tiny specks on the top right side, and a few more on the top. I also got some light leakage, but that's very, very minor compared to the dust under the screen. I'm kinda OCD about this, so I'm thinking of getting an exchange at Bestbuy..
What about you folks?
You sure its not dead pixels. Anyways, if it bothers you return it. its about customer satisfaction. So what if they look at you strange, you'll be happier and anyways, who cares about them.
Damn why can't HTC get this right! It seems every new HTC phone gets dust under the screen.
Yeah. Hopefully my new TPU case that's coming will block a lot of the incoming dust after my exchange.
I'm having some other problems as well, preferably with 3D youtube videos not playing in 3D. :/
I was thinking about getting the Otterbox Defender but I decided not to because of the size of it, But now I think I'm gonna get it because it will totally keep dust from getting under the screen.
I havent had this issue myself since the Hero, but it was most definitely annoying. It got so bad that I was tempted to just spray the phone with aerosol lol
Every HTC phone I have had has screen lifting issues. When you get a new htc phone press around the screen. If you hear any popping sounds the screen is strarting to left and will get dust under it. I use a hair dryer and get the screen really hot. Then press the screen down for 3 to 5 mins. This will help seal the screen and will keep dust out of your new phone. There can be dust under the screen from poor manaurfatioring proccess so inspect your new phone then use the hair dryer trick before it gets dust under the screen.
Yeah I got a damn spec of dust stuck inside my camera lens too... good thing its off to the side edge but yeh that urrrks!

I got the otterbox commuter case and it is wonderful. It is like silicone so it isn't slick and it doesn't add a lot of mass to the phone. It will still go in your pocket easily.
Mine had dust too. Exchanged it as soon as I noticed it.

I literally just watched a piece of dust get stuck under the screen when I was wiping it off. It wasn't there, then a moment later it was. This is in addition to 3-4 other specs I just noticed today. I think I may go into the Sprint store this weekend and exchange it. Has anyone had any trouble exchanging it for dust issues?
I just noticed 2 specs of dust near the charging port, very annoying. I had this issue with the Hero as well...got about 3 replacements, and they all eventually got dust under them.
Anyone have an issue exchanging their phone with this issue? I got mine at Best Buy, so they better take it back.
I got mine at Best Buy as well. Just make some stuff up like the buttons feels loose and the battery will drain randomly at times.
Why, is dust under the screen not a valid reason to return it? It shouldn't happen.
You guys should put a piece of tape over the headset jack when not in use. Most dust comes in through that jack.

I think the dust is coming in from the sides of the screen because its not sealed good
For those of you that have dust, did you exchange it for a new phone?

Why the eff should somebody have to do this to any phone let alone a brand new phone? If you have to do that then its not built right.
True, but it works.
Lol, I am not putting tape on my headset jack.
It looks like mine came in through the charger port

Thunderbolt water under screen.

So i installed my skinomi screen protector since my other one was scratched and got water under the screen somehow.. Thought it would dry up but it's pretty bad and it's been 24 hours now.. Also there seems to be something wrong and the bottom right of the screen has brighter light coming through in lines. What do i need to replace if i ever choose to get a new screen, a digitizer? I'm not sure what to buy to fix this and any suggestions on where to get a good one. I know the ones on ebay are cheap but i'm afraid they might be bad or something. Any help would be great as this could have been avoided if i didn't use too much solution. Only if i could go back in time....
Try using a blow dryer on low heat near the screen.
I did that, i think i did everything possible. The grey spots probably don't worry me as much because i have a feeling they'll dry out but what's worrying me is the screen seemed to have white lines that are getting bigger and spreading a bit. It's not completely white but it's a lot brighter than other areas. I had to bite the bullet today and use it because of emergency or else i would have let it dry for a few days. I'll take a picture tomorrow afternoon to show what it looks like.
If someone can help i'm planning to open it up and try to clean the screen but if it doesn't get cleaned all the way what would i need to buy to replace it, the LCD screen or a digitizer? I was thinking the LCD because the digitizer is mostly just a glass screen that usually doesn't need replacing unless it's cracked right?
Right, but there's a pretty decent chance you'll crack the digitizer when removing it from the LCD, so you may as well order the complete assembly...should be around $45.
Well i forgot to take a picture today but i'll take one tomorrow of the before and after. I'm receiving my pry and screwdriver set tomorrow and i'll try to clean it before trying to replace this. I'll report how it goes.

You'll have to be very careful. I was and I still screwed the digitizer trying to clean out some water I had under mine. I ended up having to order a new lcd+digitizer combo.

Yea i did it and was very careful, it wasn't perfect but i didn't crack it or anything, just a little part on the corner that seemed to peel the adhesive off from the digitizer so it looks a bit ugly there. The LCD is completely clean and i cleaned under the digitizer and turned the phone back on but unfortunately it wasn't water in between the digitizer and LCD, the water seemed to be in the LCD so i just went ahead and ordered a new digitizer + LCD combo so they'll be easier to install as a whole than separate.
Apart from all that the screen seemed to have gotten more grey covered on it. I'm not sure if the grey spots are the water marks or the brighter spots because as time passes there are more grey spots covering the screen. Not like it matters anymore.
Also i bought the digitizer + LCD from ebay from hong kong cause it's the cheapest and i feel as if they're manufactured there anyways so there shouldn't be a problem in quality?
Sucks that it had to end up like this, i've never had problems installing wet protectors but i think i'm staying far away from them now...

[Q] Is this screen damage or digitizer damage?

I got my pebble blue GS3 a week ago. It was used, but in pristine condition, with a scratch-less back and front. Since day one, I've been using a rubber back protector for the phone, which covers the back as well as the sides completely.
Today, I dropped my phone from pocket height on the floor, and picking it up I didn't notice any scratches or cracks and the phone worked perfectly fine. The phone was in the back protector as always, so I didnt think any thing of it and put it back in my pocket.
A few hours later, sitting on my laptop, I picked up my phone to make a call and noticed the golden colored discoloration in the bottom right corner of the phone (see attached pictures). I assume this was the corner on which the phone was dropped.
The discoloration appear to be air bubbles, stuck inside the screen. When I press the corner of the bubble, it shifts slightly and changes shape as air bubbles under screen protectors do. When I press it really hard, the golden starts disappearing and becomes blue just like the rest of the phone. The screen and touch works completely perfectly, and there is absolutely no difference in the quality of the AMOLED. From this, I assumed that the digitizer is fine, but I cant for the life of me figure out how these bubbles formed and why they wont go away
I searched for hours, but couldn't find a single post with the same problem. I would love to hear some ideas to try and get rid of this discoloration. I've barely had this phone for a week, and seeing it ruined already makes me sad
If it cant be fixed, I guess the final solution would be to get the front glass replaced. But before that, I would like to try any and all suggestions that you guys might want to throw my way
The glass is glued to the digitizer whit some sort of gel.
Your glass has come off the digitizer and form air bubbles.
The only way to restore it is change the glass and digitizer.
Maybe a really tight case can solve it when it pushes the glass to the digitizer.

I was planning on getting a heat gun somehow, and heat the corner at 180F. It is said its the temperature at which the gel between the front glass and the digtizer melts or something, and becomes easy to seperate.
Do you think this would work? There is just a golden colored bubble, and it isnt affecting the working of the digitizer in any way. It is just next to the back button, and the button works absolutely perfectly.
Still waiting for any more suggestions on how to fix this Would also appreciate if someone could link me to someone with the same problem as this. I swear I've searched for hours and didnt find anything.. I can't be the only one in the world
The golden color is the top film from the digitizer.
So I don't think a heat gun is doing the job.
You can try but be very careful not to damage it more.
Wish you good luck.

You are not alone. My S4 have the same issue, and the screen bezel is thiner than the S3... Started a couple weeks ago just after a visit to the carrier tech support, was there for unknow poor signal issue, solved by a SIM replacement and reprogramming. I know they dropped on the floor or on a work table/desk it as is "naked" without the protective case... Came back after a couple of days when I noticed the "stain" on right bottom corner and they said they handle the devices careful also have rubber pads on floor and tables to protect in the event of an "accidental drop"... So they will not replace for free, only via insurance and I have to pay a difference $$$
Anyhow, after that I dropped it so bad on rough concret right on that corner, protective case do they work but I think that corner took a good shock... I do massage the spot and it gone away for a couple of days then come back. I don't k know if temperature changes affect as it could be moisture from condesation penetrating the thin edge between bezel and screen...
I will try different cases to see if it can mask the damage until I can afford the insurance diference $ then will replace or maybe upgrade my phone...

Coffee spill on phone

So I spilled coffee on my pocket where my V10 was. Unbelievably it went through my pocket and into the interior of the phone. I opened it up and cleaned it and it works 100% aside from the obvious terrible liquid marks on the screen as seen in the picture. I noticed that this is actually liquid not died up as I can move the spots with some finger pressure. Does anyone know whether or how I can go about attempting to remove the liquid or if my only option is a new screen? I have the capability of taking it apart but I did not see a way to get to the screen after taking out the motherboard. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Try some rice but if it's coffee it will probably leave residue

LG Zone 3 screen replacement? no screws??? how the hell?? lol

Ok ive done alot of screens on phones, but this one stumps me, nothing about it online either lol.
So my GF of course, her screen is cracked, i bought replacement glass. But this thing has NO screws!! lol
Does anyone have any insight on how to replace the glass?? i can unclip the bottom clip to the glass,
Im wondering if ya just heat the glass and remove it from the top and the clip slides in a slot at the bottom?
Thanks guys
Did you ever figure it out??
Just wondering if you ever figured the LG Zone 3 phone out. I had a customer bring this phone in for repair today, and I've done quite a bit of cell phone and tablet repairs....but I've never seen a phone quite like this. So, I assume, maybe just using a pry tool running up the side after applying heat to the screen? I took the back cover off and was like you.....confused. Wondering if you ever figured it out before I get into this. Thanks
I Figured it out and decided to make a quick video for you all as well.
