typing this with Keymonk keyboard. It seems that the word completion isn't as good as swype but pretty close. Fun to play with in landscape mode. Works pretty well actually. In portrait mode it is the same as swype Since you can't really fit two fingers on your keyboard in portrait mode. Overall I would say this is if anything slower than swype.

looks really awkward too use

I only got it a few hours ago, but enjoying it so far. Very nice cross between a sliding keyboard & a two-thumb typing keyboard. Pretty early in development, so will be interesting to see how it progresses.
I have had a bit of learning curve with my fingers bumping each-other in the middle, but give me a few days with it & we'll see how it goes.
Quick tip - symbols work similar to Perfect Keyboard, hold down the ?123 key with the left thumb & click a symbol with the right thumb. Then the keyboard spaps back to the ABC layout.
You can also slide from the ?123 to the caps lock key to get the alternate symbols.
I sent a couple emails to the dev, very responsive so far.

I don't like it, is very difficult to use.

great keyboard to use and very accurate.
easy when you get pass the learning curve and fun to master.

Graffiti hand writing recognition working great!

Free app on Amazon today. Brings me back to my palm days!

Yup, me too! Grabbed this for free on Amazon the other day. Love that I can use my finger, tho, and dont have to have a stylus. Like riding a bike - after using my palm for so many years, the graffiti is just second nature!
Yes! Weirdest thing. And I have been through plenty of palms. My latest was the centro but I simply adored my TX which I still have. Break it out every now and then to make music using Bhajis Loops . I even ditched graffiti 2 and installed tealscript so all of the strokes just come through like butter on my nook color. Love it! Not so much on my phone though...swiftkey x for me on that.
I've been using Graffiti for a while on my phones, but it's just not as natural with my fingertip. I do enjoy Graffiti+stylus, though.

Dock Trackpad Uses

What exactly are the uses of the trackpad on the dock?
Curious

I've had the trackpad disabled since day 1. Don't know why people would want to use it. If you want to use the trackpad, why not just get a netbook or laptop? Why buy a tablet if you're afraid to use the touchscreen?

I agree. Aside from the fact I don't like using trackpads, the screen is right there. Why would I go to a trackpad when I can just point at what I want ?
When I don't use a bluetooth mouse, I actually use the trackpad... I've found that if you are using the keyboard, it's easier to use the trackpad than reach up the screen every time. It sounds like reaching for the screen isn't a big deal, but I just found it easier to use the trackpad. I just wish Asus would disable the trackpad while typing!

So the trackpad gives you a cursor?
I can see where this would be both useful and unnecessary.

Absolutely - the trackpad works just like a trackpad on a laptop - it even allows you to "tap" to click and has a physical left and right mouse buttons beneth it. I actually find it useful when I don't have a mouse - especially when doing RDP sessions as it gives you finer control....
The trackpad is very useful. See: websites like xda that have ****ty advertisements that popup and cover the screen and require you to hit a very tiny x to close it. Impossible on touchscreen, easy with trckpad.

Hahahaha. I've been using an anti-ad script for so long I forgot there are even ads on this website.
I like the trackpad because it doesn't get my screen all icky with fingerprints. And yeah, web browsing is often made easier by having a small cursor. I browse almost exclusively in desktop mode, so most of the UI elements show up tiny.

same like me, just using it for tiny links like the pages in forums.
otherwise i use the screen
greetings
its the best of both worlds surely!!
at least we have the option to use the trackpad if we want, plenty of other tablets owners dont have that option, lets be thankful for what we have here eh?
;-)

Text selection is far too difficult thanks to ASUS

One of ASUS' customizations seems to be a magnifier tool for text selection and moving the cursor. The problem is it's buggy and makes moving the cursor much harder than before.
See the screenshot to see what I mean. The magnified image isn't accurate and doesn't even make sense. Worst of all it covers the actual cursor so you can't see where it actually is. Its frustrating for sure.
Anyone figured out a way to turn this off?
Here's a higher res image as well: http://i.imgur.com/ipXGH.png
Buy a dock.
I agree it is a PITA & buggy. I am happy to have it for sure but most times I have to spend far to much time fussing with it & the cursor jumps around to odd places or does not initiate or on short words the 2 blue selectors are not far enough apart nor easy to grab & drag. It certainly is a finicky function.
Ill second this. Text selection is much easier on my Nexus.
I changed the default text size to large. The font selection works great for me.
No issues.
Swap to thumb keyboard. Just got it today and love it. The reason is because it has arrow keys... so you just need to get close to the spot then arrow over. Did it twice in this post. Lol

I noticed that bug in the initial release of ICS, but it seems to have gone away after installing last week's OTA update.
I second that it got better after the update. Still a little buggy though.
That screenshot I took is using the latest firmware, and I haven't noticed an improvement since the last update.
I guess I just don't understand the point of including that when it doesn't work properly. It's not as if it was hard without the magnifier. The blue handle was really easy to use on it's own.
They should have made the magnifier something you can toggle in the accessability or ASUS settings menus.

Seconding Thumb Keyboard. Superb!

Asus Android keyboard versus stock keyboard

Hi
Does anyone else find the Asus android keyboard is very laggy and misses characters when you type quickly?
I just switched my prime to use the stock android keyboard and it seems much better. However I liked the layout of the Asus one better, and it had larger buttons.
Just curious...
The Asus keyboard isn't very good. You should take a look on the market. There's tons of keyboards there.

Check out thumbs keyboard from the market. I love it for my prime.
+1 for thumb keyboard.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am am trying swiftkey tablet x keyboard right now and it has a split thumb design as well which I actually like.
The thumbkeyboard doesn't have a free trial so I am hesitant to buy it without trying it. The only problem I have is the space bar is near the notification area and I hit it once in awhile stead of the keyboard.. I will keep looking.

Their are two space bars on the thumb keyboard. Left and right. But it is well worth the money. It has a dock bar at the top to add different quick keys as well. 20 to be exact.

I quite like the size and the spacers on the Asus keyboard, just wish I could turn up the vibration more like you can or the aosp one

Okay... I splurged and bought the thumb keyboard. I have to admit that this is the best out of the ones I have tested. It is very quick to respond when I type quickly. I found that swiftkey one was a little laggy sometimes.
Again... thanks for the suggestion. This keyboard makes typing ALOT easier than the stock keyboard.

People...Save Your Thumbs....Get Virtual Button Bar...

Posted in Apps section, but I thought I would throw this on General do get the people that might not go over there.
I've had this phone for about 2 weeks, not counting the one week....never mind.
I literally got a huge cramp...I think it's tendonitis, in my main phone hand, from trying to contort to this phone. I am a fervant one-handed user, and I've finally got my phone to a place where I can do about 90% of what I need to do....One of the main apps I utilized is Virtual Button Bar StoreLInk or another softbutton app.. It's basically a set of soft buttons accessible via a small screen overlay on the edge of your screen.
It changes the way I set up my phone because my hand basically stays in one position. So I keep my home clustered.
It works for great for me...but it's going to take a while to get rid of this tendonitis. I'll report back.
Update: I'm now recommending button savior ...
More control...more options....I actually use both.....I have one set one each side so I can have thimbfriendly control for both hands
Swipepad is better in my opinion and it's free.
Edit: Never mind. This has way more functionality. I still would choose Swipepad though, but hitting back isn't a problem for me because I hold my phone with my right hand.

swipepad is good. Great way to have everything on your homescreen hidden.
I don't see how pressing the home button a few times every once in a while could give you anything as "serious" as tendonitis, seeing as the majority of smartphones had physical buttons until around 2011, and when you compare the big easy-to-press Galaxy Note button to the tiny, hard buttons of the Droid X, I don't see how anyone could be complaining, and you wouldn't catch me dead sacrificing one millimeter of this glorious HD screen for anything that can be accomplished by the fabulous buttons protruding the edge of my display.
