Hi my phone bricked by factory reset and is still under warranty.......what reason should i give when i take it to the service center.......my phone got bricked with CF-root kernel......so there was yellow triangle when it was bricked........i am really worried whether they would notice that my phone is rooted ......please help
since its emmc brick my mobo is busted.....so hope they dont find out........please give me the suggestions when i take it to service center
Experience on here over past 8 mths or so with people who are unable to go back to stock/reset flash counter before sending phone in for warranty service/replacement is around 50/50. That is, half of these people seem to get warranty service, half don't (and end up paying for the repair).
It's basically a dice roll. It's all down to whether the person who fixes it cares/notices it's been messed with so far as you getting warranty service is concerned.
The less you say, the better. Tell them it barfed while doing one of their OTA firmware updates.
Hi,
its hardbricked ai?
I would just go to the service and act like a fool.
if its really hardbricked they wont see the triangle nor the counter

yeah it is hardbricked....did a factory reset with CF_root kernel LQ5.....it got stuck in formatting data........so i pulled out the battery and it wont boot anymore.......but there is heat up near camera lens even though it is hardbricked
Jelly Bean ai? :silly:
Download Mode & CWM Rec. also aint working?
One more reason (the heat up) to go for the service center

LQ5 is 4.04 leaked firmware
that heat up is the symptom of emmc hardbrick.....
Ah yea right - only knew bout the brick prob. lq5 - i think both versions got their probs (leak & jelly)
Hm, but they still cant prove that it was your fault, can they?
I would, like i said before, just act like a fool :silly: just tell them you updated via kias and the phone is broken now (or somethin like that)
u can claim ur warranty if its hardbricked
i had done it just tell them u ver updating ur phone in kies and it after completion the phone never came alive

i was trying to get rid of the yellow triangle in my galaxy s2 with usb jig method
while following some instructions on site which told me to flash tar file in PDA...there were two tar files..after first flash nothing happened
but when i flashed the second tar file my galaxy s2 got bricked
its not going into download mode or recovery even with usb jig
i think its bricked for good...only black screen..the best i could get were two white notification lights which would turn on at the bottom of the phone.
odin detects the phone but i cant do anything since phone doesnt enter any mode
what are my options here??
my phone is still in warranty...before it got bricked i saw for about 2 secs when it restarted into download mode that ROM counter showed 0 with official ROM..then it got bricked
so will samsung take my phone??or will it be rejected since i have checkrom revolution hd 4 with siyah 2.6.11 kernel installed in it??
is there any other method i can try to make it work??
If you can't get into download mode you have two options. JTAG repair, or send it to Samsung for repair. How would we know if they'll repair it under warranty ?
The moment you put non-stock firmware on your phone you void said warranty. Given you can't re-flash stock or even wipe the flash counter with a jig, you're going to have to take pot luck if you send it back to Samsung.
Given you've already tried a jig (and despite what I'm sure a few people will probably tell you given some of the replies we've had to threads like this so far this week), there's pretty much no way short of the above two methods of getting your phone working again.
thanks for the input
i guess taking a shot at official repair is my only chance here
if they make a fuss about my phone not being on official ROM then i guess ill have to pay them(and i hope they dont charge too much!!)
Might be worth getting a quote for a JTAG repair. Even if you have to send it overseas/with the cost of postage it might end up being cheaper. That way, if they do decide to charge you for it you can ask them "How much ?". If they want to charge more than the JTAG repair and the amount of time it will take Samsung to repair/return it to you is the same or longer than the JTAG, you can take the JTAG option.
Or you might be lucky and they might just fix it under warranty. Good luck with it

thank for the info i think this the best way to go about it
damn i wish i hadnt tried this stunt...i was quite happy with my phone
now i find out u dont need to flash stuff in odin to get rid of the counter and triangle...just the jig is enough...dont know which stupid sites instructions i was following
Hey guys.
I made a stupid error last night when I tried going from ICS CM9 back to ICS STOCK LPQ.
I forgot to wipe data and just wiped cache and dalvik cache.
The connection broke whilst flashing through ODIN and now I have a blank black screen and the phone won't turn on...((( (It does technically as when I try pressing the on button later on the phone would get hot - meaning its on but BLACK SCREEN)
I have tried taking the battery out for hours and putting it back in...nothing is working.
I don't know what to do...I'm in uni where I have fast wifi. Please help. Any advice would be grateful
EDIT:
Ok.
So usb jig arrived this morning. Ripped it open. Popped my sgsII from charger (fully charged I think!) took battery out - 15 secs
placed battery back in.
Inserted USBJIG. . .
. . .
. . . . BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH
Nothing....Still the same. No screen activity...sad...
only way is either JTAG or Samsung service center right?
I used to have yellow exclamation mark + 4 counts....but they can't see anything so they won't know right?
or did the usbJig work but just the fact that I can't see anything on the screen??
...sad I hated seeing noobs flashing phones improperly and crying when it got softbricked....well even though mine is a straight hardbrick i still feel sad....noob
update.
I've taken it to SSCentre on tuesday. I called them yesterday and they said they couldn't fix it over there and had it shipped somewhere else...is that bad?
it could take upto 2 weeks!!!!!!
I rememeber the engineers working on my friends Galaxy S last year and they didn't have to send it to somewhere else. (he had the soft brick 3 yellow logo icons) and didn't have the version where the download/recovery mode didn't work) The engineer just flashed it with latest stock sgs firmware (ignoring that csc was orange lol)
Maybe my flash was so impeccable I fried the motherboard? I'm one kick ass bricker....

If you can get into download mode then there is still hope. If you can't then your only option is either warranty repair of Jtag service. If download mode then works then just reflash using Odin.
You flash i9000XXJVU to your i9100 phone? So you need JTAG or do service. Your bootloader is totally dead

Didn't even notice that XXJVU was an i9000 firmware.
To OP: Yup nothing to do, but send it in for repairs.
yeah sorry not JVU LPQ (I was getting mixed up with firmwares)
Yeah phone not going into download or recovery mode.
I think when I press the power button the phone does turn on but I get nothing but black screen....(the phone warms up)
So shall I order a JTAG to flash? or take it to repair centre?
Will they know I've been flashing this thing to death? Counter is on 4 at the moment..... so worried!

JTag is not Samsung warranty its a paid for service .
or take it to repair centre?

.
Warranty is void with custom rom root or rom counter above zero .
Will they know yes counter is on 4 .
Will they ignore it and put it through as warranty they may but dont count on it .
USB jig would be the starting point .
That fails you could go to warranty repair if thats rejected then pay for JTag repair .

if you have adb maybe you could try:
1. Connecting your device to PC while turned off,
2. CMD > adb devices
* If you see your device connected, proceed with:
adb reboot recovery or adb reboot bootloader
* If you don't see any device connected, try googling for qhsusb_dload driver for your device, and after you install them (and maybe a couple of PC restarts) repeat step 2
3. if you manage to get to recovery, i hope you have your nandroid backup so you could restore them.
my HTC sensation 4G had this situation few days ago, couldn't go to recovery/bootloader, blanked out when turned on and had fever
i fixed it using those steps, i wish i could remember where i got the qhsusb driver thingy from.. i'll let you know when i remember.
edit: it might work on S2, or might not.. i don't know this will help or not, but you could read adb/fastboot/bootloader/android 101, maybe you could get something from there

The bootloader death thing is not 100% true. When I first got my phone, (when there wasn't any rom for it) I tried flashing a I9000 rom. I was so stupid and luckily it didn't break my phone. After the flashing it turned on and stayed on bootlogo.
It was a miracle for me!

you should have tried download mode blindly first. as i have flashed once blindly and it fixed my all dead screen.
So I bought Galaxy S3 2 weeks ago. I was installing nova launcher for my phone but then it just went black on me. My phone is on stock but rooted. Now i cant boot up the device and I dont know what to do!PLz Help :crying:
The device is not booting up just by installing a third party app? or it actually boots up shows status bar but everything else is black? At worst case you can try factory reset your phone from recovery (you will lose all your data)
Yeah! It just went black when i installed Nova launcher.
Doesn't make any sense, that shouldn't happen.
Can you enter recovery by pressing vol up + home button + power button when phone is switched on?

So I went to a samsung store and ask if they could fix it up! They checked it and they told me that my mainboard is broken! I dont why it is broken because i just recovered back to stock firmware and i was still be able to use for like 1 and a half day. I doubt it is the main board as you've been able to get into recovery and flash back to stock, it was probably more like a software glitch during you're original update, if they are saying it is broke and they will exchange it for a new one then you do it if you want for peace on mind.

I said that i returned back to stock and then used it for a day and a half. Then my phone just turn black when i was installing nova launcher. And it bricked, i guess!!!! :crying:
Probably your phone is dead. Don't you have warranty? Normally they should replace anything.
Warranties depend on the country but in many countries, during the first 6-12 months, the seller has to actually prove you broke it or caused a malfunctionin order to be able to refuse warranty.
Noth that the key is SELLER, Samsung has no obligation to you only the company you got it from.
Even proving that rooting caused your malfunction (should they be able to determine it was rooted) is impossible since rooting does not cause hardware issues. Altough they might try to make you believe it
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
did you tell them it was rooted?
maybe that's why they are not honoring the warranty
No, I didnt tell that it was root. i just said that i updated the new firmware! but they said that i must have brick it when i flashed some custom rom. And now i have to pay for the mainboard!
Yeah if you told them you were rooted best thing you can do is go back there and say that it broke on it's own. Since they probably don't have a way of finding out if it was rooted they won't be able to refuse the warranty.
OH! And by the way, i told them that it broke when i was surfing the internet but they didnt believe me. they said it was my fault cause I updated the firmware somehow wrong! But i doubt it could be the problem because I was still able to use for one and a half day!
Hi all,ok i have had a rooted samsung galaxy s3 i1900 for the last 8 mths and dont no what is going on but last nite it decided to switch itself of and stay stuck on the Samsung logo boot up screen, ive tried all the obvious like a soft/hard reset and taking the battery out and trying to put into recovery mode, but it doesnt want to no , also even when i plug in mains charger im getting no red light to say its charging, so before i take back to vodafone can i just make sure it is bricked and there is nonthing i can do, vodafone said yes they will send of to samsung for repair free of charge as its still under the 12 mth warranty, only reason im posting this is to definately check there is nonthing else i can try with the help from other members on here, many thanks and hope to hear soon from brian..
can you boot it into download mode?
If you can still access recovery then it isn't a dead motherboard, probably the system partition is corrupt which a reflash of the ROM will solve - or go for the warranty repair. The rooting shouldn't invalidate the warranty.
Thankyou

Hey guys !
Well...
Yesterday, I decided to flash a new ROM on my aunt's SII...
It wasn't the first time I did this : my own phones have all been flashed, I know how it works !
But... I got a problem ! While I was wiping the data/cache, the phone got stuck on this step. Then, shut down. And now, it doesn't boot anymore. Screen stays black. I did everything I found on the web : tried to boot on recovery and on download mode, tried to press the buttons to get into these modes and inserting the battery while pressing, tried to connect it on USB (not even detected)...
After some researches, I found out that it was a eMMC problem...
Anyway, in a nutshell, my phone is hard bricked. What can I do ?
Thanks.

what stock firmware version was the Phone when u did the wipe from recovery (if it was on ICS 4.0.4 then ur phone will be bricked because of the kernel of ICS4.0.4 being plagued with the 'EMMMC' brick bug and only a JTAG or a MB replacement is the solution for it) .
JTAG won't work; motherboard replacement or bin.
I think it was 4.0.4...
Motherboard replacement is the only thing I can do ?
Mate.... Samsung KNOWS this is a problem.......I'd try for warranty repair/replacement.....if the phone is less than two years old, you have a good chance......
Just remember to 'act dumb' at the service center..... Tell them you were trying to use kies to update from ICS and the phone died...... If it is the emmc brickbug, there's NO WAY they can check what os was on ur phone or whether you'd rooted or modified it in any way.....right now it's an unrecoverable (expensive) paperweight........
This might be my S2, or it might be my W...but it's definitely CM
Yeah, I saw this is a quite common problem... But often, it's just a soft brick. In my case, it's a hard brick...
And warranty expired two months ago...
Well, it's unlikely to succeed, but you could try emailing Samsung explaining your situation regarding expired warranty and going on to explain that updating with kies is a 'normal' procedure and that it's that 'normal' Samsung provided procedure plus the 'unstable' OS version (having read on the internet about 4.0.4 brickbug) that have killed a phone that would otherwise be working today. Stress the point that the ICS firmware AND kies were both supplied by Samsung for official (end user) use on Samsung devices......see what they say.....can't hurt right?
This might be my S2, or it might be my W...but it's definitely CM
Yeah, they're going to honour an expired warranty. That happens all the time
Mb....I *did* say right at the start that it probably wouldn't work..... But what has he got to lose?
Lol.....they *might* be suffering from an excess of Xmas and new year goodwill.......
This might be my S2, or it might be my W...but it's definitely CM
I have twice super bricked my two SGS-2s.... EMMC bug is one hell of a pain in ass. You have to let go some SD card space, but u can revive you phone using the URL in my signature. I revived both my phones losing about a GB space in one and a couple GBs in other. Good Luck

The problem is that I can't flash anything ! The phone simply doesn't turn on ! No recovery mode, no download mode, nothing ! It doesn't even charge !
Yes try this link from alvinasnow

So far as I know if you only connect your phone normally if it os charging then it already has some kind of connection with the pc I believe its adb.
But since you dont have warranty you can give it a shot to save money so just give it a try and read carefully. I was surprised when I got this phone, that samsung would make a big mistake like that its a just shame.
Edit: i dont know or you need jtag or riff and I will not test it cause I dont have a superbrick phone with mmc cap erase.
But just open device manager on the pc and connect the phone and see if there is a new device connected.
In my opinion my previous phone has one of the best options to make it unbrickable
It was nvflash but it sucked.nvidia wouldnt release sources.
Gooodluck with your phone

Which part of this phone needs a motherboard replacement are you lot having trouble comprehending ?
OK...For all the slow kids who keep posting to this thread (including the OP); this phone needs a new motherboard. No threads promising magical fixes are going to work, there is no other way to fix this.
Is this clear now or do I have to make another post in bolded caps to make it really clear ?
There is a SLIGHT chance that if a JTAG recovery house can boot a kernel via JTAG (I do not know if RIFFBox can do this or not), they can use the solution that the Kindle Fire community used. (This was a recent discovery 2-3 months ago)
The problem is, I have attempted to provide information on this solution to these JTAG houses with no response. I don't know if they can boot a modified kernel via JTAG or not.
Currently:
All Exynos4 devices that are Superbricked are unrecoverable, as Samsung refuses to provide any way to boot these from USB, and anyone who could develop a solution hasn't responded (since most dead devices are long gone at this point...)
All Qualcomm-based Samsungs that are Superbricked are hosed too
Kindle Fires that are Superbricked are recoverable as of 2-3 months ago thanks to some discoveries by Oranav that were used by Hashcode to develop a recovery solution. This solution can't be used on Samsung Exynos4 devices as it depends on the ability to boot the device from USB.
And folks...... @Entropy512 needs to be listened to.......he is the dev who has done the most research into this issue and (somebody cmiiw) was the one who discovered the "emmc cap erase" command was the culprit. I think he also wrote the original (much copied) 'got brickbug' app which tells you if your phone is affected or not. If what he says doesn't work, then as @MistahBungle says, the ONLY OTHER OPTION is a new motherboard........
This might be my S2, or it might be my W...but it's definitely CM
Well...
I think I'm just going to call the insurance, and see what they can do ! Even if my warranty is now void, they may replace the phone !
Thank you all !
