Yellow "frame" around the screen when it's warm - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hi guys!
First of all, I need to ask, do I have yellow tint issue?:

Also, when the phone gets hot ( about 40C) there is a clear yellow frame along the screen sides. It's like the yellow tint thing on the first pic, all around the sides.
What's that? Glue or what? Pretty annoying!!
Thanks in advance!

ye, thats the yellow tint, get it replaced under warranty asap.

Interesting, my local Sony place are now saying I will have to pay to get this issue corrected. Apparently it is now not a known issue.
My carrier, three UK, won't replace either as it has not broken down.
They acknowledged it is heat related, but my fault :-(
Really not happy now :'(

are you rooted and do you have your bootloader unlocked?
because this might be their "excuse" for not repairing your phone at their own expense

UK warranty repairs are usually "repaired" by SBE, mine's on it's second trip to them for this problem (actually it's been lost somewhere, but that's another story) they have admitted to me that it's a known issue, confirmed by SONY (and there are enough websites with this info on it to back you up), so they're lying

Hmm, anyone sending their unit back should really full wipe, relock bootloader and install stock as a precaution

Mine has locked bootloader, and until a couple of days ago was not even rooted.
The exact phrase they used was 'you've obviously been operating it outside of the recommended temperature range'.
Obviously I asked how they knew this, no sensible reply was offered. They did however tell me to give it a ready every few minutes.
Next time I will request a chat with someone who has a clue.
Not happy with Sony or ThreeUK.

Haha, what an excuse "outside temperature range"..seriously? You live in the UK, not on the sun...
They -should- repair it for you, as they have done for many many others (I'm speaking globally, but I know there was UK people who got theirs repaired as well..)
Bootloader unlocked/locked or rooted/not rooted shouldn't make a difference, and until now it hasn't. There's just those idiots who work for Sony and your mobile provider who are uninformed, I would definitely try again if I were you.

Outside temperature huh?... in Middle East, outside temperature can range and go up between 47C to 50C...

It's a defective scren.
I've used my Xperia S to the limit since it get unboxed and till now my screen is gorgeous. (even above 40º under heavy gaming stress test with maximum brightness)

Mine has it for the second time. Only got it back after the first time 2 weeks ago, took them about 3 weeks to fix it, and already its gone again? I love this phone I really do, but if it's gonna keep doing this I can't see myself keeping it, I refuse to use a knowingly defective product.

Mine was fine for weeks, thought I'd escaped.
ThreeUK said it wasn't their problem as it was a manufacturing fault and not a breakdown. Ironically my earpiece speaker completely died earlier, reflash didn't help but carrier will replace the phone as it has broken down lol

I've had a similar problem with T-Mobile ("you've had the phone for more than a week so it's not our problem and we won't replace it"). It went off to SME (or whatever they're called) who couldn't find a fault despite it being clearly visable to even the useless sap in the T-Mobile shop.
I rang Sony who said all they'd do is send it off to SME (or whatever they're called) like T-Mobile did but I'd have to sort the postage out, that was 2 months ago, I've not got round to doing it and frankly can't be arsed.
But yeah, you got the tint problem.

Does that tint problem ever go away for people, or does it remain forever? I guess it would get annoying, but in general it doesn't seem that bad?

Some people have reported, and I would concur, that it becomes less severe over time. I don't think it will ever completely vanish though.
I should add that half the battle is getting your brain not to notice it. Things like this get annoying because once you see it you can't stop noticing lol

may I ask your build date (xxwxx) under the back cover.
I have heard that after an exact built date the problem is not apperarings

****! I was hoping that it wasnt yellow tint issue. Damn! Hate it! Now I have to get it repaired and be without it for weeks!!!! ARG! I HATE phones with defects!
It's pretty annoying when for example using xda app on phone and browsing with bright/white background.
But it gets very annoying when the phone gets about 40C, then I have this yellow **** all around the sides on the screen! Anyone els also have this? Why is it only showing when it gets about 40C? Is the yellow that appeares on the screen glue or is it just a defect screen?
Built date? Back? Many numbers there, whats the built date numbers?
SI, FCC ID, S/N, IC???

Date is something like this:
12W08
The 12 means 2012, the 08 means week number. Yours may vary.
Also Hardware revision is a 4 letter code just above this, looks like AAAB
Phones are destined to have yellow spots are the "AA"s where "AA" is the first two digits of the code.

Anyone with this issue? I remember having a similar problem with my HD2 to begin with.

Just checked and I've got it aswell, never noticed before. It's been reported a lot on the G S2, hopefully an update will sort it.
Cheers. As long as its not just mine I wont return it and, like you, will hope for an update to fix it.
Bit annoyed my last two mobiles have had this issue though, how difficult can it be to release a flagship phone without a simple problem like this?

I've always had exactly the same thing on my SGS. I only see it on indoor shots, or low light outdoors.
Edit: A little Googling turns up some additional info. HTC says SW problem. Also an indication it's on many devices and due to white balance adjustment.

Ok so how abouth this now?
IS this a software problem or hardware?
No need to return for this?
It is not a hardware fault, it is a restriction in the lens.
Most of the leading manufacturers have this as they use the same system in constructing the lens.
The only way is by having a software update.
The HTC HD & HD2 had it bad and although not entirely cured a software fix lowered a lot of the issue.
Samsung are aware of it and hopefully we should see some sort of 'makeup' to correct the problem.
As already mentioned the only time you will notice it is indoors on a plain light coloured wall.
When outside the sensor is not working so hard as there is a lot more light, as such it is then hardly if any noticed.
You can lower it yourself as a temporary step by going into the phones settings:-
Settings/Display/Background Effect/ and select Movie.
It dampens down the colours and as such washes out the strength of the pink.
Hate to say it, but restrictions in the lens are hardware. Hardware is essentially anything not software related and although software can mitigate or amplify hardware problems, the root cause is a physical characteristic beyond the 1s and 0s of the firmware.
Question is, what did you guys do about it? I had one device without the issue (but was returned due to screen problems) and now I have a new device with the issue.
I'm thinking about returning this one too, but am undecided. What do you guys say?
Samsung Galaxy S2 Pink Spot Camera
Hi guys,
I just bought SGS2 a week ago and replaced once. Unfortunately the problem is still there on current replaced phone. Isn't this too coincidence to get the replaced phone with the same problems? First thought was a hardware problem, but now it seems like some kind of software issue in SGS2?
I have browse around and found here. Felt undecided now like Quist, still thinking whether want to return it to shop or just keep it, or change it to other phone/brand.
Thanks!
Apparently this problem is resolved to an extent in the new KE7 firmware if the (unofficial) release notes are to be believed.

Hi amuneer,
I got my SGS2 set with latest preloaded KE7 version. Do you means I need to flash it using that unofficial KE7 version to solve the pink spot issue? I saw many SGS2 users who flash their phone with that version got a lot of problems. Sounds unstable to me.
KE7 didn't help at all for me.

no improvements here either! same red circle with ke7
Hi guys, I'm going to get my SGS2 replacement for the 3rd times now, because i saw someone posted that he don't have pink spot on his SGS2 camera. Let see whether that was a coincidence received manufacturer defective set or really a hardware/software issue behind SGS2. Wish me Good Luck!
Update: Got my 3rd replacement SGS2 on my hand. The answer is all SGS2 100% having the same Pink Spot problem. No update, no news, and no solution yet. I think I will keep the phone and see what Samsung says...
On the phone I had that didn't have it, I went back and reviewed all the pics I kept in similar lighting situations and instead of a pink tint in the middle with a greenish tint towards the edges, it had a pinkish tint towards the edges and a green tint in the middle. I saw the same green spot phenomenon on one of the other units I planned to switch to.
Seems to me that the optics on the SGSII aren't all that hot and the white-balance algorithm uses an average across the whole screen, meaning that if there are any variations in the lens (highly likely) will give it a mottled green/pink appearance.
If anyone can confirm they have neither, it would be wonderful. Still trying to decide if I'm going to DOA my latest unit - have two more days to decide.
me too...

Me too, only noticeable when facing a white background.

WTF is wrong with my camera now?

i'm on my 3rd evo with camera problems. first one was taking green pics, 2nd one had blotchy looking pictures on the left hand side (cameras weren't even close to being centered), and now in the middle of the day, bright and sunny out with no cover my pictures come out really dark.
is this normal? i haven't played with the settings at all on the camera. i'm ready to throw in the towel but am past my 30 days.
here's some pictures that i took today:

Check your settings > Image adjustments. You can adjust the exposure there. Also check your settings > ISO. I took mine off of Automatic and put it on 200 for outdoor shooting. Seems to work pretty well.
Finally check the magic wand and make sure that No Effect is selected.
I have the same problem. And I tried all the image adjustments. I called Sprint about it last night and they said it's the first they've heard of it, even though I've seen other people here complain about it.
They gave me a ticket number and told me to take it into a store.
I sent an email to HTC about it the other day and I have yet to get a response.
It's a problem. I have an email from HTC claiming that I'm far from the only one with this problem and it effects ALL EVO 3ds. It is a software issue they are working on but no ETA on a fix. Because of this, Sprint is allowing me to return my phone today with no restocking fee and I can get the photon next week and have a new 30 days to try that rather than take the EVO 3d back and then be stuck with the next phone since they only do the 30 day swap once....

So I guess it's not the first Sprint has heard of it. HTC told you it was a software problem? So I guess it wouldn't make sense for me to take it in. I'm outside of my 30 days so I guess I'll just wait until HTC comes up with a fix. The only thing I'm worried about is the fix will come after we have s-off and they will sneak something in to fix that if ya know what I mean.

I'm not having the issue so the potential may be there but it is not affecting all EVO 3Ds.
Have you tried using another camera app like Vignette to see if you still have the same issue? I know that the other camera apps can't take 3D pics but they still work for 2D pics.

I'm just going off what they told me...I'm hheaded to sprint not to turn the phone in...good thing is if I don't like the photon, I can always come back to the EVO. let's all return our evos!
I e-mailed HTC about this issue and this was their response:
I understand you have a green tint on your pictures that were taken with your EVO 3D. HTC is aware of this and we are working toward a resolution. However, we do not have an ETA of when this would be resolved. You may clear the data from the camera application. This may help resolve the issue. This may be done by tapping Menu from the home screen then tap on Settings> Applications> Manage Applications> All Tab> Camera> Clear Data. When you clear the data from the application, this does not delete information saved on the SD card. It will reset any settings you have changed within the application. Once this process is complete, power off your device and power it on. Once the device has powered on test your camera application. If the issue is not resolved, rest assured that we are working toward a resolution. You may check htc.com or twitter.com/htc for update information as it becomes available.

I actually spoke with them on the phone about it too. There are different levels of this issue. Some get green tint on every picture whether they use flash or not, some as in my case just get it when they use the flash. We went through all of the adjustments and nothing worked. They assured me that it was an issue that they were very aware of and that they were working on a fix, just couldn't give an ETA.

4 dead rezound's, offered a new divice

I have gone through 4 dead Rezound's. The first one i bought was purchased late december, this was a XA model. About 2 weeks ago, it started to act up pretty bad. I called verizon and they sent me a certified like new device, this one was an A model. This one had the same exact issues my first one was having. I called back verizon and they sent me another rezound, A "B" model. This one was great, my battery life was fantastic, i had about 3.5 hours of screen time on the normal 3.7v battery, then i went to make a phone call and noticed that the proximity sensor was dead. Called up verizon and they sent me another one. This one is a "A" model. Well, this one is the worst one of them all. The batter hit about 140 degrees and ate about 35% of the battery doing the initial set up. I literally have to keep the internet turned off to be able to make it through the day.
Well, verizon gave up on trying to replace the rezound and they offered me a comparible device. The offered me a droid charge. At that point, i asked to speak with the manager. While i was waiting to get connected, i took a drive to the local Verizon store. I was talking to the manager when i walked into the verizon store. Handed the Tech support person the rezound and the phone i was talking to the manager on. After a few minutes of the tech support guy messing with the phone and explaining the problems to the manager i had on my other phone, i was offered a Galaxy Nexus.
I just needed to vent, and see if anyone else had the same issues as i did.
Nope.....mine has been perfect...great battery life...with an extended battery.

Be interested in hearing if you have any connectivity issues with the Nexus. My wife was handed a brand new one (Nexus) on Thursday, as her company phone. I couldn't even download tiny apps and widgets to it over the weekend, because it would randomly lose signal completely, all the while my Rezound had a strong 4G connection.
I was having major issues with my fiance's Droid Bionic and I was offered a Razr, Rezound or Galaxy Nexus as a replacement. I took a Rezound.

Initially, i was on ICS. when all the problems started, i went back on S-On/ stock GB and still had the same issues. With this last phone, i kept it on GB. I didnt even try to change anything at all.
Dammit i specfically asked for a nexus just to see what they would say a couple weeks ago when i had to return my Rezound, but they said no "its a premium device" they said.
I'd suggest not taking the nexus, if you don't have signal issues you will get the USB port problem
Wher it thinks it's charging when it's not, the phone overheats like crazy and the screen turns on and off erratically
I'm never buying a Samsung phone again

I honestly didn't want or ask for a nexus, but at this point, i am willing to take it. I just want my device to work. I don't know how its possible that 4 out of 4 devices where defects. Its almost as if HTC's quality control went down the toilet.
I love(d) HTC until recently. My Droid Incredible was amazing, but the rezound is a very poorly built device.
Take the Nexus if you want any long living development or lifespan.

[Q] Does anybody know how to remove dents on the HTC One?

I have an HTC that I just got 2 weeks ago and today I accidentally dropped it on concrete while I was taking my dog out. Unfortunately because of what happened I have a few dents on my phone. Is there a way to remove those dents or am I stuck with them forever? What can I use?!
If it was a car I can tell you how......
But unless you can open your phone without breaking it to kind of try to work from the inside. Then you might be sol

Use bondo
Just kiddin... It's u likely your not gonna make dents go away... This device was made from a chunk of aluminum ... Same concept as a car ding itl never look right unless you replace metal in the case of a car ding you can do body work ....
Alternatively use a case to mask the damage

I was actually curious about this. Now that T-Mobile has a 30 day return policy. If something happens software wise or hardware would they be able to exchange it with minor ding to bezel. I know the receipt says it must be in the same condition as when it was purchased but not sure how specific or if their is a policy for that. Or if it's up to the rep/manager b of the store. I made the mistake of waiting to order a case from amazon. Dropped my phone and it just got some aluminum chipped off the bottom bezel.

Your best bet is to use a soft putty or something like that to fill the dent and then use a skin or a case. You can open the case (google it) but will be hard and probably expensive to source an OEM cover
Good luck with trying to return it to TMO. WHen I picked mine from the TMobile store, sales folks were really pushing hard for a warranty which I declined. Anyways when I mentioned the 30day return policy, they were crystal clear that the defect had to be a reproducible software issue in a non tampered phone, which surprised me. On pressing further I was told that if the ROM was altered or any changes were made to the software (e.g. TMO bloatware removed), the phone would not only be returned to me but would be flagged as out-of-warranty.
They also added that the phone has to be in the same condition as it was when purchased (no scratches, wear signs etc). If I just wanted to return it (buyers remorse) then it was a $50 restocking fee.

If you have warranty just call T-Mobile and tell em your buttons at the bottom aren't responding and that you have no screen protector or anything over it and they'll send you a new one for $5.
I'm on my 3rd HTC One.....1 time was my fault and I dropped it with a case and the other time little scratches just start to appear on the metal ring around the phone. I had to get a flip case so it could be fully protected

Keep a case maybe you won't see it through the case. Out of sight out of mind maybe?
Then when you do have an emergency or damage or accident, you have excuse to replace it. That is if you have warranty. Also the 5$ replacement if the device is under manufacture's warranty.
Me I feel guilty doing that crap and only replace when I must. Mainly because I constantly request unlock codes from carrier prefer to have the unlocked phone instead of constantly replacing it for minor blemishes.
I had the G2X and hell, that was worst phone with bugs and stuff but hung tough. I unlocked it but also the hardware issues weren't so terrible as other people were having.
Anyway just weigh you options. Just claim faulty device over phone and have it replaced with $5 replacement since it's in warranty anyway. Who knows.
For what it's worth, this exact same thing happened to me two weeks ago. Unfortunately, the concrete dented the aluminum so bad that it stuck the power button into the case and it went into a continuous reboot until ultimately the battery died. I sent it in to HTC repair and they replaced the entire aluminum case and power button assembly (and the plastic in between the front/back aluminum shells it appears) for $90 out the door including return shipping.
If your phone works fine, you have to decide if it's worth $90 to you to have it look new again. To me, well, it was a lesson learned...but at least it wasn't $250 like a new LCD screen would be!
I ordered a case before the phone was returned back to me

if it isnt on XDA and isnt on HTC dev... Im going to have to say it isnt anywhere.

Colour blending (blacks) problem

Anyone else notice blacks don't blend properly? I first noticed it with the gradient in the infinity wallpaper. It persists in movies too. The blacks don't blend and look pixelated. I've contacted Samsung support by email.View attachment 4451283

What resolution are you running at? I changed from the default to max resolution and no issues here.
Are you running at the lower resolution? If so, that may be why. Displays never look good at anything other then their default resolution, in this case WQHD+. That would explain the gradient issues you are seeing.
I have watched several videos on mine so far, and blacks, etc look great. No gradient or banding issues.
In fact, this display is much better than my Note 8. The color is more accurate, and there is no pink tinge at the top and bottom edges. There is also far less color shift when viewing at an angle.
Full resolution. WQHD+.

So today then...
Went down to my local Samsung Experience store, everything went fine in there. The rep took my phone out back and came back acknowledging a fault. She then explained that as its the S9+ Hybrid, they can't exchange in store. This can only be done by contacting customer services. The rep plugged the phone in to their system, ran diagnostics and created a support ticket for me to reference when calling.
So I dialled the UK based customer services. Explained the whole thing to them. They had issues pulling up the support ticket however took my details and went through the process, had been on the phone a good 20 minutes now already. The guy then told me I had to be put through to the online shop which is based in Manilla. Took about 5 minutes to get put through. The line was terrible, and it was a struggle communicating. Had to go through the whole lot again, another 15-20 minutes to be then told I had to be put through to their technical support! So I get put on hold and then...
*hung up tone* line went silent.
I was fuming. So had to start over. Back on to the UK number, quickly rushed through the whole thing again. She said that she would speak to Manilla herself first to explain, as for an exchange, I shouldn't be getting put through to technical support. Another 5 minutes of waiting for Manilla to pick up and I'm through again. Once again, rattled through the whole issue. End result:
I have to send back my device, which can take 3-5 working days to arrive. They then have to assess the device which will take another 3-5 days before they will send out the replacement.
I was not happy about this, as I've sent my old phone off to them as part of the pre-order deal already and I'll be without a phone for the duration. I also questioned why it has to be assessed when it's already been assessed in store. She just kept repeating the "procedure" over and over. I was getting frustrated and asked to speak to a manager as I felt that it was poor customer service. A manager came on but he repeated the same. They couldn't even explain to me, why I couldn't walk in to a Samsung store and get an exchange there and then. There was zero sympathy for a customer who'd spent nearly a grand on a phone, been a Samsung customer for years.
I've little choice now. I'm just annoyed that a huge company like Samsung won't go that extra mile for a customer. My phone is my business phone as well, I can't afford to be without it for up to 14 days. Spent over an hour on call to them as well. For a simple exchange. One whole hour for them to say, "stick the return label on, take it to DPD, we'll send you a replacement in 14 days".
Have been discussing this on Android Central as well, where there is a longer discussion with a lot of people experiencing the same issue. Whats irritated me is that one person there spoke to Samsung today and they're sending him out a replacement BEFORE he has to send his faulty one back. How is it different for two customers, yet same problem!?

This problem is called "Black Crush", and was one of the many problems I experienced with my Pixel 2 XL.
It can be fixed through software updates, and the problem is only visible at low brightness, and that's why most of the people haven't noticed it.
I will put this video for you, is about the Pixel 2 XL, but is about the same problem and also they suggest an app to minimize the issue:

I wouldn't bother. I can almost guarentee your new phone is going to come back and do the same, it's an issue that came about in Android 8.0. My Nexus 6P did the same after that update.

I'm glad it helped, honestly, is just a matter of time for Samsung to fix this, because in theory it should be really easy to patch.
I have the same issue (S9+ Single SIM) and actually created another thread about this a week ago.
For people saying it's an Oreo problem, well my S8 got the official Oreo update and still doesn't have this issue.

I hate replacements as its not guaranteed to get a better display, and apart from this issue i really like the phone, so im really frustrated and dont know what to do but wait for a fix.

As I pointed out, you can install the app recommended in the video and try to improve it for yourself. A replacement won't do anything because is a matter of calibration, not the display itself.

I did try the app, it kind of solves the issue at the expense of contrast, better than nothing i guess. Lets wait and see what samy does.
Its kind of weird though, because otherwise the screen is flawless in my unit atleast, for the first time i got an Amoled screen with perfect white balance uniformity.
I think I have this issue as well. Last night while in bed I was watching a TV review on rtings and noticed what I thought was extreme video compression in one of their YouTube videos showing a test pattern. But then I looked at other images on the page and saw similar artifacting, compression or banding. This is very noticeable at low brightness. Even my gradient wallpaper from Samsung themes is showing tons of pixelation when transitioning to black toward the top at brightness below 40% or so. Do you guys see issues with these links below?
https://youtu.be/wg1tWXtH1zg (lots of smearing and compression here, looks horrible)
http://i.rtings.com/images/reviews/tv/sony/x900f/x900f-uniformity-local-dimming-large.jpg (I see a gray blob instead of a faint glow around the pattern)
My S7 edge never did this in over 2 years. It had a great display. I am not sure if my S9+ display is defective or if this a software issue. It seems like software but I am going to head to best buy and see if I can replicate it on another device. I am bummed I traded in my S7 and now can never get it back if this is a dealbreaker.
Is this the same issue you are experiencing?

This is a calibration issue, and I'm sure it will be addressed soon because many people are presenting this issue, and with many units I mean most of them.
Is only noticeable in low brightness as you pointed out, and that's why many people don't even know they have it.
I leave an image here taken from Android Central forum:

Interesting. I just tested my S9+ alongside my coworker's S9 regular and his doesn't do this at all. Gradients and blends show up great with no crushing even at low brightness. Could this be isolated to this larger panel? I'm going to head to Best Buy today and see if I can replicate on their S9+.

Definitely. I checked it against my wifes regular S9 and hers doesn't have the problem.
