OK, so I'm no developer or anything (willing to learn, but I don't want to distract any devs ), but I wanted to get some momentum going for job on our flyers! It looks just amazing! And wth the nexus 7 coming soon, we have a chance to port it I feel! I know that the days of developing on the flyer forum are dark, especially with lee gone for a while as well as others, nut I feel like we can still pull this off! We can start discussions on this forum or merge with the dev ics one, I just felt like we needed the push to do it. God bless everyone developing the flyer, and great job so far, especially with ics Lisbon! Love it! Thanks for reading, I hope you consider this

AS far as i am aware a port from the nexus 7 would be hard as it is different hardware (CPU MAINLY), this can cause difficulty however it might be worth giving a try but we need to wait until the kernel development king returns (CHAOS) so hopefully he will have some ideas

Yeah, I knew chaos is on vacation, plus he will have a huge demand on ics Lisbon I imagine too. Maybe future jelly bean builds will be easier to build from too, but I do think this can and should be able to be done!

Well, the Tegra 3 is STILL Arm Cortex A9 cores. Only the Qualcomm Snapdragons have slightly different cores like Krait (aka 8960) which might need optimization and I am sure Qualcomm has then and will release their custom kernel when their JB products are in the market.
Just to maintain focus on simpler things in life. I am sure Chaos would appreciate, the momentum of Lisbon 1.2 is there and there is not much more to go really. The only major thing is really BT but that might have restrictions on calling for those with 3G flyer. For wifi only Flyers, keyboard support and headset support would be very welcomed. For people who has used this ROM, they must admit that the experience is greatest ever for any ROM on the working parts. So, if we can get stability and a few more functions working, we are home free!.
For Pen support, I think it is of little priority since the original Pen functionality are limited, so very seldom used.
PS: I would be very keen to see a more updated kernel in the build unless someone says, there is not much in terms of functionality we can expect, nor speed, nor Free RAM. In fact, there has not been a problem with free RAM on the flyer to date that I know of. As it is, this development is already amazing! :victory:
İ will definitely not port a N7 image, very near to impossible. İ will only work on the source code of JB, not using ports.

Guys... the development of our phones is coming to an end... we have less and less developers everyday and I don't think I'm good enough to develop anything decent my self.... we need to find people to develop and fast if the future of our phones is to be a bright one....
I agree with you... but I think maybe is time to other people (including us), learn some more and keep doing a nice job. Not as great as some developers I guess, but someone has to do the work. I know, its hard, but what we can do if not is change our phones
Awesome devs, don't leave us hehe.

This is just my two cents worth:
Take a look at the Android Development section. There are many budding developers with their themed roms oh, I mean heavily tweaked and modded roms out there. I'm not sure about the rest of you but I feel that this is simply wonderful. Its a good opportunity for beginners to learn more and serve the online community here. I'm sure in 5/10 years time down the road, some of us will look back and say "Hey the Optimus One was the Android phone that got me so interested into developing and look at much I've learned" or "It was my Optimus One phone that made me love Android".
So alright, our phone isn't considered a legacy device (yet, of course hopefully never) so hang on in there I love my O1!

Well...I think the developers are enough to build an stable version of ics.For GB,we already have Oxygen which is amazing..or neko's rom if you like some changed graphics. If we'll have stable ICS...I don't think we can request something else from them.Even like this,I'm happy with Oxygen.
The thing is that o1 gets older and older, and resources are very limited.600 mhz...just saying.
The developers will upgrade to better phones.
This phone...I think it was it the top when it comes to developrs support. It was a cheap phone with good performances at that time. Now games, versions of android, apps, all request more resources and in time this phone won't be able to offer enough.
Probably this phone was a challenge for most of developers. We wouldn't have so many roms if this would have...a 1.4 ghz / dual core processor and this stuff.
Don't worry my friends,in time we'll upgrade our phones too.And for most of us,this phone was "first love" ...and you know what they say,you will never forget your "first love"

you realize that this phone is 2 years old and most developers have switched to nexus devices.
you realize this will never have an official update ever again
you realize this has an armv6 processor
you realize that we have reached a "glass ceiling" for now maybe quallcomm will be nice or someone comes up with a workaround or we can get a leak
you realize that this phone has no official flash support
you realize that we have an HVGA display
thats why so many devs are leaving and or moving to another phone IE. Nexus
so many devs went to the nexus, franco, milk, bok, dax\

I'd really like to change my Optimus One for a better phone but I really can't spend lot of money for a phone. Android 4 is beautiful but set a LOT of devices apart. Now Android looks like something for the few. I still have to understand what should I do with a dual/quad core phone: my Optimus One is old, armv6, 600mhz but I can still use it with Lightbox, Twitter, FB, G+, gstrings, Maps, Endomondo and a lot of apps with no much lags (and I didn't overlock). I hope Tizen or especially Boot 2 Gecko will be good enough to revive not-so-incredibly-old phones like ours. Android is fantastic but it's going too fast.

If he is actually wanting to work on the amaze I'd be glad to donate, mdeejay does great stuff used his stuff on the sensation. This is a dev I would love to get the device to if he is actually wanting to work on the amaze and own a device. Kinda sucks right now to get a device for someone at this moment with newer devices coming out it seems like most devs want to move on to those newer devices. It'd be awesome to have a dev who would actually want to own and use an amaze. Back when I was on the galaxy s2 forum they got Eugene373 a phone and because he was gonna use it as his phone he ended up bringing them so much great roms. To throw a device into a devs hands who is just willing to work on a couple roms for us, is kind of a shakey idea on one side its great and appreciated that they wanna help the amaze community out on the other hand they got lives and their preferred devices so you never know how long they will be willing to help out for.

I would argue the quoted part above - our device still isn't even remotely obsolete. I was at a tmobile yesterday with a guy who works there who owned an amaze previously, but they gave him a htc one.. he isn't impressed. It is slimmer, and it includes beats - but otherwise it is the same phone without being able to access battery or have a microSD.
Sure, the international version is quad-core, but the newest phones in the US haven't made any attempt at pushing hardware specs-- we are still good competition.
There are a ton of devs that are still developing for devices that are definitely inferior to ours spec wise, that alone is a very big factor.. if they use our phone, they will fall in love(or they have bad taste!)

Well I partially agree with you, its not so much that the amaze is a bad device, its not behind the curve nor is it stale, however, the newer devices are easier to dev for from looking at the one s and one x even with no kernel source they are farther along. I love the amaze and I don't see anything compelling enough to upgrade to anytime soon. With that being said the amaze is no walk in the park to dev for, with missing drivers its already a not so easy phone to deal with, I truly hope if mdeejay or any developer that gets our device for that matter likes it the way owners of it do so that they can see a reason to get it beyond just helping us.

So. What now?
There is few - non-complete - ICS roms for the htc flyer, but nothing good enough for daily use.
We didn't even get android 4 before android 5 was out... :crying:
Drew Garen is apparently working on ICS. Maybe he should be asked to try to work on Jellybean instead?
What do you think? Will it be harder to get Jellybean? Will it ever be done?
I think you should just give it up. What makes you think we ll get 4.1,if like you said we don't even have a good ics Rom. If you realy want buy a nexus 7. It's 199 so the price is very reasonable
I'm pretty confident that Chaos is going to get his ICS build perfected with everything working, I mean, look how far he has gotten so far. I wouldn't count on DG though. Too many broken promises.
As for Jellybean. The source code isn't even released yet. Just the update for the galaxy nexus and the sdk. Sdk ports will never be as good as source builds so forget about that. When the source is released for JB I don't think it will be too hard to get an AOSP build going seeing as we already have a good ICS build. The leap wasn't as big from ICS to JB as it was from GB to ICS. So in theory, we will probably get JB (I can't speak for the other developers) sometime after the source is released.
So just sit back, be patient and keep track of any news
This is getting silly. Really! I think it is best to just cut the loses & buy something new. I think the turn around for new OS'a is shortening. I mean ICS isn't even a year old. I've learnt my lesson.
My next contract will only be 12 months. & I will dump the limping HTC brand for something else. That way I won't be disappointed.

Anyways, thanks for all the replies!
Man everyone is obsessing over jelly bean...why? It's a minor update.. its a miracle chaos got ics running on this device, asking for jelly bean is a new monster. Id rather the focus be on getting ics perfect for the tablet than start over on a new monster. And idk about jelly beans New tablet mode, Id prefer the tablet ui that was introduced with honeycomb.
Thing is google cranks out new android versions quickly. People won't keep this tab forever, including developers. So the best possible experience that takes full advantage of the flyers hardware needs to be the goal not desperately trying to scrape together parts to get another version of android on the tab. Really I'm fine with honeycomb aside from the lag, and ioiwillio is working on that and so far so good

I think I'd rather get ICS running properly too.
Jelly Bean does not have a landscape home screen, which is weird.
The emphasis on voice and search is getting too much for me too. I feel like Jelly Bean was designed to collect information about you. It is getting too big brotherish.
It sounds great to get a Nexus 7 maybe 16g at least. I don't know if they have sdcard slot, that would awesome. The HTC EVO View still has great potential as a school tool. I take it everywhere take notes, make beats, do homework, watch movies, listen to music, text everyone and email. I hardly carry my phone to school or laptop. I think its still very functional, even the Gingerbread works fine on this device. I can even code. It's definitively not a 12 core that I treasure so much as to not carry it outside my home in sunny Southern California.
I would rather use telepathy but I'm stuck in a Dark Age.
Big Bro indeed. As much as I like Google, their goal of collecting all information is frightening. Information is power - someone with too much power is a tyrant.

AS Gumby said earlier i do not think it is too hard to do, i am not even sure it requires Kernel changes in order to get it working, i believe that it can share the same kernel as AOSP ICS, however don't quote me on this. I will have a look at this with whoever decides to develop

This could be fixed i believe, (Not by me) as i don't really know much about the APK's at all. But i beleive it is possible, the same code from an ICS lockscreen apk would work and also i believe a lot of the ICS APK's would work as this is not a major API level only a slight step up, however i could be incorrect.

Yes. It seems like I am wrong about it anyway. There IS a landscape mode in the UI.
I am thinking about ordering one. It is a shame because the Flyer has better hardware in some respects (rear camera, SD slot, MHL support). But, Nexus 7 hardware is good enough and, most importantly, it has Google supporting it so we will surely get timely software updates for a while at least. Also, I am sure that there will be a ton of Dev activity becasue this is a Google product and will probably be at least moderately successful.
Hope the community of flyer grow stronger and stronger. Anyway it is not old enough to die, with all this, All the flyer will have a longer life:fingers-crossed:

We need a ICS kernel first, and I was pretty sure the framework changes were rather intensive.
From what I can gather, the changes between HC and ICS and hell compared to the minor update from ICS to JB. If we can get a working ICS build for the Flyer, JB will seem like a piece of cake.
Back to the UI discussion, I'm actually a fan of the layout on the Nexus 7. It's actually more of a traditional phone layout which would work much better on the Flyer if the soft keys were disabled and we could go back to the hardware keys. It would free up the bottom of the screen and give us more usable space.

It would free up the bottom of the screen and give us more usable space.

I'm kinda thinking that too. Ideally what I think would be perfect for the flyer is a launcher with a honeycomb layout that auto rotates to both portrait and landscape and has no dock and the apps and search bar up top just like honeycomb. Then you have the notification bar up top, virtual keys disabled, and hardware keys enabled and bam perfect flyer layout!

assuming we could get ics, is updating it to JB a realistic option?
I'd say so. I see the biggest problem as being that Honeycomb's not open source, so we have the kernel sources for the Jetstream and nothing else. So a lot of the porting process is probably gonna be a guessing game. Once all the "guess work" is done and ICS is running, there won't be much more guessing left to be done for JB, just porting the existing code modifications over to the new OS.
That being said, there's a good chance we'll never see ICS. Yeah, it's being worked on, but on a device that sold so poorly, there aren't nearly as many developers as for, say, the Xoom or Transformer tablets.
is there any one who actually work in porting ics or jb to htc jetstream ?

Chaos-x and mhkabir had promised to do it for us but as of now we are all still waiting. Many of us willing to help but none with the know how to do much individually unfortunately. Any help and attempt is always anticipated, awaited and welcome.

Hence the Dev only think tank in the Developer's section for ICS. Not much movement there, but if you or anyone else is a developer and wants to join in efforts in getting ICS, I suggest that would be the section to join and pool in. Chaos-X has achieved ICS for the Flyer - and from source - so he will know what the problems that could be encountered and the potential work-around's for the problems. The Pen has been made to work (with few bugs) by Dexter_nlb for ICS and JB for the Flyer. So they could be great references to help us out for our device. Chaos-X was on vacation and is back only recently, he doesn't seem to have the resources as of now to get down to helping us. He had shown interest none-the-less prior to his vacation. Till he pools in, the people who know what they are doing can definitely give it a shot and keep trying. People like me who have no idea what is what and how to do what, we can definitely try to test and help out in testing and/or any other way we can.
as for the pen, i think the thinkpad tablet is running ics with the pen properly . i think there are many similarities between the devices and maybe we could take a look there...

1st aim is to get the working ics/jb Rom and then the rest. anyways, we will have to wiat and see what is happening. At least me, because I know I am incapable of right now trying to learn how to port or anything. Hope some people put there will help. Even if it doesn't work out, I am still enjoying this tab everyday and the note taking and pen functionality just make my life a hell lot simpler, which is what I got it for. getting upgrades after HTC has abandoned the jetstream would be a bonus any day.

I have a jetstream and could set up a machine for someone to remote in .
OK, so
I am looking to setup a development team, mainly (for the moment) based around the HTC Flyer. However i am looking to expand this further to other deveices shortly.
I am looking for ALL experience levels, whether it be that you have never developed before and would like to learn to the point where you could develop android from the ground up
I am looking for a truly multi skilled team of developers.
If anyone is interested please let me know, either PM me on XDA or Reply to this thread
ALSO you dont have to want to develop it may be that you can offer Web Hosting etc, any suggetion is helpful so if you want to be involved please mention it
I might have to get back with you. I still dunno if I'm going to keep my flyer, and baby is coming any day so I dunno how much time I'll have, but I'd love to help out anyway I can.
So no ONES interested!?!

Like i said i am just gotta get back to ya at this point.
A development team is definitely needed for the flyer. Really its what made the difference on the captivate. Instead of one guy trying to figure out everything you had entire teams working on stuff. Faster updates, and hell it had aosp alpha ics before the Nexus even came out! But to be fair that captivate was a lot better seller than the flyer.
That being said we have a lot of great developers here. Instead of everyone working on their own projects I think a merge is needed. We might be able to pull off a pure senseless aosp looking honeycomb if everyone merged their efforts.

Sorry I'm not a huge fan of providing support for end users, answering the same question a million times, and constantly explaining to people why something is possible. It's easier just to tweak my kernels and ROMs how I like it and leave it at that. Best of luck to you though.

Could you not release a source for me to work on through gut hib?? That would be enough of a contribution

If you want to base yours off a already working source(which is fine), why not just use Leedroid's? His kernel's are light years beyond most people's around here.

He's got some strange issues with reboot and battery drain and bouts of extreme lag in the Kern that's the only reason :/

Hmmm...well I'll see what I can do when I get home tonight. At the very least I have a couple patches you could use. One of them adds governor's, another schedulers, and I might be able to whip up a quick one on over-clocking, that however would be device(more explicitly processor) specific. We'll see how much time I have here though.

The OC thing is not too important but the other 2 patches would be good, if you don't want to release under GPL send me a link to the source and I will release it if you would prefer, that way there is no problems and you don't get hounded about support

I'm not developer - i'm designs related guy. (motion designs actually). Not sure that I can help a lot - but if I can be usefully - give me a shot.
I'm going to try and create a custom honeycomb launcher soon. I got a lot to learn but if it all pans out it'll look like aosp honeycomb and have features like adw and go launched. If I can get past all that and create something I might look into optimizing it for the adreno 205 gpu and that goes well I might see if sense widget support is possible. But for now I'm just going to see what I can create. If I can pull off a working launcher I'll join and let you use it as the official ioidroid launcher

I think people have been trying for Sense widgets for quite a while now. Something about verification/Authentication was the last thing I remember holding them up.
Yeah no promises there. It's about the same across all manufacturers ie touch wiz widgets don't work on adw for example. Really no promises at all yet gonna start small and see if I can get a working launcher first then go from there.
