[Q] Corrupted username - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

So, I'm getting the error 67 "data call failure" after some digging I've discovered my username under "about\phone identity" has a bunch of jibberish characters in there. I'm thinking it may be the cause of not connecting to the network. I know what my username is supposed to be, anyone know where to change it? Or another idea to fix! Thanks, this community is the best!
Edit: Okay, so here is how it went. Tried to update profile, then activate this device with no success. Ran the RUU back to stock. Activate this device now worked, then update profile. Done! All is now right with the world! (okay maybe not, but at least my phone works now!)
Thanks for everyone attempt to help

Try updating your profile. It sounds like it got corrupted, somehow. Might be a call to Sprint, worst case.

I've tried that, but I just get the error 67 every time. I've even run the RUU to go back to stock, no effect. I would assume it's somewhere in the system files and could be modified, I just don't know where.

To my knowledge, you won't be able to find/modify the username via a system file. Personally, I'd call and see if Sprint can verify everything is good in their systems or fix, since they are the ones who create/maintain that. Updating the profile on your device should fix a corrupt profile on the device, but if that does not work the issue may well be out of your hands.

Problems with upgrade to Rom 3.3.4 and radio 3.42.50

Hello Everyone,
Just wanted to say thanks for the help on the forum on upgrading the htc 6800 to 6.1 and unlocking the GPS. I have come into a couple problems with the phone and can't seem to find the solution. If anyone knows a solution please let me know. First, I have the time settings set to Eastern US which is the time zone that I am in. However whenever messages come in, they are displayed as being 4 hours ahead. I don't know why this happens. I also have a problem with the built in GPS. It takes very long to lock a signal and it keeps catching and dropping the satellite signals; is the GPS module just weak? I live in Ottawa Canada. Thanks for the help in advance.
Cheers,
Andrew
Standalone gps is typically slow but it should work well. I would just recheck all your gps settings. Don't know about the time zone issue.
Thanks for a reply.
Ic. I am only catching about 5-7 satellites but its weak. I have the settings set to com4 and rate to 4800. It still works but takes forever. Maybe there is extra software i need to install; i haven't found anything yet. As for the time zone, it is getting very annoying. Message times are all off 4 hours
5-7 satellites are typical numbers. You could try quickgps which might help looks some. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1862269&postcount=2
Try to reflash the rom to fix the time zone problem.
K thanks i will look into it. One a seperate note, I am trying to change my phone number to another area code but I can't get to the screen. I reflashed the rom but no luck. I tried ##778 and ##564848 and it seems to load another screen with ESPT and then it closes and stays on the dial page. Any ideas? I need to change the number fast and the phone doesn't work right now. Bell has the new number in the system, i just need to change it now on the phone itself. Thanks again all.

Did you try ##778#?
Yes i tried that. I tried ##564848# as well. It just starts dialing to bell and bell tells me to contact them. I need to remove the # at the end for the phone to try to at least open the settings page. I changed the number at a third party vendor called wireless wave, but they couldn't get into the settings page on the phone. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. This is my primary phone.
Cheers,
Andrew
Try downloading the Phone Codes program from this thread and see if that works.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=57693
Thanks a lot. Ill try it out. What do i do with the cab files? Sorry im still trying out this stuff. Thanks in advance. I am not registered with PPCGeaks, can you please post the file here?
Cheers,
Andrew
Here you go! Copy the file to your phone and run it. Cabs are install files for your PPC. This should (if I read everything on PPC Geeks correctly) create shortcuts to the various ## codes in your start menu.
K I registered with the forum. How do i use the cab file? Thanks again btonetbone.
Cheers,
Andrew
K nevermind. I registered and got the file. Do i just install the cab file? And then what codes do i use? thanks again btonetbone.
Cheers,
Andrew
Correct. Install the cab file. It should create shortcuts for the phone codes in your start menu.
Thanks for the reply and the file. I installed the file and it still does not get to the screen i need. I am running 3.42.50 and 3.2.6 for bell. Thanks again. Could it have anything to do with a boot loader?
Cheers
I also tried ##33284 and ##3424 to get to the diagnostic page and it worked. But to get to the page to change the number i can't. ah... lol
Does anyone have any ideas why the phone tries to load the page but then closes and enters the phone again? If you have any ideas please let me know.
i think it is a dialer issue. You can also run the diagnostic directly from file explorer. I forget the name of the file. Did you try ##3424#
I tried ##3424#, but that didn't work. Whenever i put the pound at the end it starts calling, it i leave it out, it tries to load a settings page. ##3424 does work. What am I suppose to do with that? Also what does the diagnostic directory tell me. Thanks.
Well ##3424 is for qpst.
I get into a page with ##3424. What is qpst, do I need something set there? I changed different roms but no help. i am using bootloader 2.47 no2chem and so i cant use much older roms. If anyone knows anything to try please advise. I am without a phone now.

[Q] Can't use mobile data

I can't use any app with mobile data, except for dolphin browser. But i can't download anything with them. And in apps like whatsup, google maps, google play store etc. it just says no connection. But when i'm connected to wifi i can use them with no problem. I was looking in the settings but i didn't find anything to fix it. Anybody has some idea?
Thank you.
I had something very similar after flashing a new ROM, Im now on leedroid with no problems so It might be the rom you are using?
unrooted stock rom :/ everything is stock
Try going to settings/phone update/update profile and see if updating your profile helps.
I don't have phone update in the settings :S
Sorry....it should be System Updates
It says that I already have the latest version... but everything worked, I don't know why this happened.
could go into phone programming and reset your data profile
##3282#, edit mode, enter your msl number, data profile, menu, restore.
this code doesn't work for me
I have a dumb question probably, but mobile network is checked in wireless and networks settings right ? And the mobile network settings are right, domestic data and voice should both be checked.
If all that is correct then i would take it to or call sprint and let them fix it. Sounds like an error on their side to me since your phone is stock.
Of course the settings are correct, because I can browse internet. And everything has worked until few days ago.. i don't want to bother with factory reset and that stuff, i'll just wait for ics to come.. if then something won't work then i'll contact htc...
If you go to the phone dialpad, ##3282# doesn't work, then something definately is wrong with your phone.

I dont believe qpst is stock on the 3d. Can't remember tbh. Qpst is required to use ## codes.

QPST does work on stock. Also, since I work for sprint I would recommend just doing a master reset since this is the first thing they will do when you take it in. Yeah it sucks having to set everything back up, but it will probably fix your issue.
I've just resetted APN's and everything works now!
But I still don't understand why was browsing working, and apps wasn't :S

I was just about to suggest that the APN's weren't correct, or to reset them, so maybe an apology to the person you told "Of course all the settings are correct" !?!?
Simple fix anyway, glad it's working.
If you ever have a problem like this in the future, chances are it's a phone issue, then a network issue then a rom issue, but ultimately a human issue.
Resetting the phone can always rule out the rom, trying another sim can rule out the rom, calling your network can rule out the network, i get issues like this on a daily basis, it's 9 /10 human error.
Oh an just a heads up, quite a few people tried to help you here and you said thanks not once?

[Q] Signal/Service drops at random- Restart required

I recently purchased an HTC Evo V 4G on Virgin Mobile. Otherwise known as the HTC Evo 3D (it even says Sprint on the case.)
I'm having this problem where seemingly at random I will attempt to make a call or a text and it won't go through. My signal bar will suddenly drop to 0 and when it comes back I am unable to do anything. No data, calls, or texts will go through. I am then forced to restart my phone (with Fastboot off otherwise I need to take out the battery) to get it working again. It's hard to notice when this happens unless I notice I'm not getting any texts back. At that point I call my voicemail to see if it works.
Was this a problem people had with the phone on Sprint? Is this new to VM and caused by that? I'm not a new VM customer either. I never have problems like this. I don't know if there's conflicting apps causing weird behavior, it's something on VMs causing the behavior, if this is a known issue, etc.
Any help or guidance I can get will be much appreciated.
More info:
When SMS messages won't go through it displays:
"SMS Error
Radio Interface Resource Shortage"
Details:
"SMS Error
Cause Code: 64
Error Class: 2"

I'm not sure about the error but I have had weird things like that (not same) happen to me since flashing the vm firmware from the leak and using an ics rom. Going to airplane mode and back usually helps me, might save the trouble of restarting.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
Same thing happening here!!!! I flashed the vm firmware so I'm guessing it's that
I've tried airplane mode to no avail.
I'm on Virgin Mobile... I wonder if it matters that I have a Sprint labeled phone? I assume that VM users are getting old stock of the EVO 3D and they didn't want to bother re-branding until they ran out. Which means that I'm in nearly the same situation: I have the EVO 3D flashed with the VM ROM. Maybe that's causing issues?
Try one thing, I believe I fixed my problem for now at least. Dial *#*#4636#*#* , go to phone information, scroll all the way down and the preferred network mode should be set to "WCDMA". Change it to "CDMA auto (PRL)" then restart your phone. If you are already on the one I'm telling you to change to then I got no idea. I was getting the exact same error codes as you and that random service drop, haven't had it since I made this change. Let me know how it goes

I don't know the technicalities but I just know that it fixed for me and in the past have seen people recommended that.. it all comes down to just messing with it yourself you know, it's not dangerous to change if anything goes wrong just revert back
the same thing happened to me, and i flashed back to the sprint firmware using the firmware recovery thread, and that seemed to fix things, however i don't know what flashing sprint firmware is going to do

##3282# from dialer
go to edit mode and enter msl(use msl reader from market if ur rooted, if ur not rooted u will have to ask sprint for it)
hit menu at top right corner of edit screen "reset"
This will re-provision ur data profile with Virgin Mobile and clear out any hodgepodge. But if u bought the phone from VM and its doing that I doubt a data profile restore will fix the problem. I had the Sprint 3d and flashed the VM ICS leak and it caused the same problem for me and most of the other Sprint users that flashed it. I think it has something to do with how ICS interacts with the carrier network (radio interface daemon) hence the "radio interface resource shortage" error. Once once the developers realized the VM firmware was not need to flash ICS, it worked flawlessly with Sprint firmware.

I knew the first thing I should have done is root this phone... especially since I'm coming from an Optimus V that was rooted 90% of the time I had it if not more.
Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it!
I tried getting my MSL and was unsuccessful. Is this something phone specific or account specific? I found my MSL from my last phone since that's rooted.
I don't know if it's caused by ICS, my Windows setup, or what but attempting to finding my MSL was a hassle this time around. I can get pretty far into the steps but since the guide isn't written for my phone there seems to be something I'm doing wrong. I read through hundreds of comments and tried everything I could, too.

If u asked them for it and they wouldn't give it to you just tell them you are having problems getting your phone to access data and send texts with the network and can they walk you through how to reprovision it. They should tell you to dial ##3282# and enter a code. That 6 digit code they read out to you is your MSL. Write it down.

[Q] HELP. Wifi Problem!

I have a rooted Evo 3D running ICS 4.0.3 with Sense. Blah blah blah.
Anyway, I depend on Wifi a lot cause I dont use data. Its absolutely no problem when Im at home.
But when I go to school, the Wifi is almost useless. But its weird, because I can get on the Play Store, and download apps, but that's it. How much sense does that make? Sometimes I'll receive Google Voice messages, or email alerts, but I cant send a Google Voice message, browse the internet, open an email, or play those games I downloaded with friends. I have no idea what this could be.
Before the Evo 3D, I had the OG Droid, which did everything just fine. Which makes me wonder even more why this happens.
Anyway, Thanks in advance!
Which rom are you running? Have you tried to flash another kernel? Have you tried another rom? Are you sure that your schools Internet is not safe guarded or blocking what they would refer to as warez sites?
( Don't ask me for help as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh! )

Im running the stock ICS Sense rom from the OTA update (4.0.3). And I know that my school's wifi doesnt have these things restricted because on my previous phone (OG Droid), everything worked fine. I could browse the web, send GV messages and everything.
Not sure if this helps, but Im rooted with S-Off on HBoot 1.58.

Sorry, forgot to mention... No, I cant flash roms because I havent figured out how to downgrade my HBoot yet (1.58). But Im hoping once I figure that out and flash a new rom/kernal, that will do the trick.

I've tried about 2 or 3 actually. I kept getting bootloops. I did a lot of research and a lot of threads talked about how you cant flash AOSP and some other type of roms on 1.58. But I just flashed ViperRom after downgrading to 1.4. So I'll let you know if I still have the problem after school tomorrow.

Maybe the problem is with School IT and data throughput. Maybe they put limit there, so you cannot communicate while you are on exam or using time on "chatting with friends" during classes ..

OK. So you've tried different ROMs and get the same behavior. And I'm assuming Wifi works correctly everywhere else or you would have mentioned it. So, I'm leaning toward something with the school wifi. I know that my work wifi only lets students out through port 80; nothing else.
Having said that, I do find it odd that basic web surfing and Google searching doesn't work while the other stuff does. You'd think it would be the other way around.

Im seriously stumped. It doesnt make sense to me. Im able to download all the apps I want, and get notifications, but nothing else. So I dont think its the port, because Im obviously getting some sort of internet connection. I've done endless amounts of Google searches and cant find anyone who has had this problem. I know there a web filter, but it only blocks certain inappropriate sites.
But what puzzles me even more, is how my previous phone did everything just fine. So I dont think its the WiFi.
Im probably being a bit repetitive, but my mind is just blown. It literally makes zero sense to me.
Try this.
NVM. Since your problem is WiFi related this probably won't help.
It sounds like your school uses some kind of proxy for security purposes.

You may need to set a proxy when you make the wifi connection to your school's network. Those settings are available by checking "Show advanced options" right below "Show password" when you first connect to the access point, or by long pressing the SSID of the network while connected and selecting "Modify network". Some people have also reported solving Internet connectivity via wifi issues by clearing the proxy settings if they were somehow set by accident.
You will probably need to check with your school's network administrator to confirm that and get the proper settings. I'm not sure why the OG Droid didn't require similar settings but it might have been able to pick up the proxy automatically like Internet Explorer does on a PC.
BTW, unless you checked the option in the Play Store app settings to download via wifi only, you may be getting your apps and notifications via Sprint's cellular network without being connected to the Internet via wifi at all.

I make sure that the Mobile Network option stays off. I know for a fact its via WiFi. And I did some research to find that this should be easily fixed. But having the crappiest luck sometimes, the viperROM I'm running managed to hide the RSTP/HTTP Proxy settings (Not sure how or why) making them inaccessible. Even worse, I cleared all my backups on my SD card to get those 2 gigs of storage back, so I cant restore to my stock ICS ROM from the OTA update while mainting root and S-OFF. At least not that I know of.
Sorry if I seem like kind of a noob, I got this phone used like 2 weeks ago. I still have a little to learn about it.

To be 100% sure that only wifi is active you can put the phone in airplane mode, then turn wifi on after that takes effect. I know that works because I do it all the time myself. I'm pretty sure the RTSP/HTTP proxy settings only affect the data connections through the Sprint network and not wifi.
You can flash the RUU.exe to return to stock without losing S-OFF, then flash a custom hboot and recovery and root the stock ROM. I outlined this process for someone else that was S-OFF in this post, which is part of my guide for rooting and getting S-OFF.
Edit: According to this thread, RTSP/HTTP proxy settings can affect ALL traffic. I'm still not 100% sure that they apply to wifi.

WiFi Works but no Internet - tried everything

I am the proud owner of a TF201 that has been sitting unused for over a year because the internet stopped working after working fine for years. My WiFi shows connected with 4 bars but the wifi icon stays grey, not blue. I have put many hours into trying to get this thing to work. I have gone through all the posts on all the forums regarding various reasons and solutions for the grey wifi icon. I have made all the suggested changes to my home wifi to no avail. I have the same problem when connecting to my phone hotspot or any other access point. I don't think it's the hardware and I don't think the problem is with the wifi source. It has to be software on the TF201. So I tried all the fixes for the Android configuration and nothing worked. So finally, in desperation, I did a Factory data reset. I also went into recovery and did a data wipe. So then I boot to a new Android 4.1.1 and enter setup. I can select and connect to wifi but the google login fails because, again, no Internet. So I skip the google login and I am left with naked Android with no Internet. Then I decided maybe I could fix it by flashing a new ROM. But before I can do that I need a custom recovery. But before I can install that I need to unlock and root my TF201. So I finally get the Asus unlock tool installed and run it. Only one small problem, it won't work unless it can verify my google account across the Internet which, of course, is broken. So at this point I'm at a loss. Unless you guys can help me I guess I could sell if for parts on Ebay. I would really appreciate it if anyone has any ideas.
You say you have tried everything without actually saying what you have tried but when I have encountered this in the past the date and time has been wrong. I know it sounds stupid but did you check this ?

Rather than stupid, it would have been brilliant if it only worked. I did try that already but thanks for the suggestion.
I didn't go into too much detail on what I've tried because, ultimately, I was wasting my time. The tablet is getting wifi. It is connected to wifi with 5 bars. The only problem is that they are grey not blue. I've read that blue means full two-way connection with google services and grey means no or partial communication with google. So I can go to the tablet now and select Settings, +Add account, Google, enter an account. It will say "this will take a moment" and then instantly comes back with "Couldn't sign in, Can't establish a reliable connection to the server." If I tell it to create a new Google account it asks for a "name"@gmail.com but rejects every name as "not available" no matter how random/long it is.
Nothing else appears to be wrong with this tablet. Its bone stock, date/time is set, wifi is connected.
Thanks to anyone that can help.

It's mad because what you are describing is the exact same errors that I had when the year was set wrong on my tablet. I also couldn't use browsers or anything because all the certificates were out of date.
I just had a quick google for your errors and the answers it brought up also said the date.

I did find another thread as well which mentions editing the hosts file so it might be worth you taking a look here and see if there is anything you haven't tried yet.

I've found that people are fixing the Google sign-in problem by editing the hosts file and commenting out the address for google's servers. However, you need to be rooted to do this. So does anyone know how to root a TF201 without the ASUS unlock tool? If that's the only way then I have a chicken-and-egg problem with no solution.
Can you ping the tablet from another computer/phone in your house?
Have you tried putting in a static IP and DNS instead of DHCP?
