Just wanted to see if anyone is experiencing the same issue and has a known fix. I have talked to Sprint tech support and Samsung tech support and cannot get connected to my home network running on a Linksys E3000 wireless router.
Samsung sent me a replacement Sprint Galaxy S3 on an executive level after I went all the way to level 3 tech support with no cure. They asked for my phone for troubleshooting and sent me a replacement next day air.
The replacement is having the same issue. My Galaxy S3's cannot connect to wireless N 2.4GHz or 5GHz (with or without security, all channels and frequencies tried as well) but the EVO 4G LTE I returned to get the Galaxy S3 saw it and connected perfectly. If I put my router on "mixed" network mode on the 2.4GHz frequency or 5GHz frequency I connect. Why advertise the phone as being wireless a, b, g, and n wifi certified if it's not?
I have way too much interference on the 2.4 GHz frequency and must have access to the 5GHz to keep this phone because lets face it Sprint's 3g network is just not sufficient.
I too am having this problem. I was wondering the same thing but didn't think anything of it until you mentioned it but I can only connect to my g signal on my dualband.

Your router must not support 5ghz. I had the same problem with my S2.
T-Mobile Pebble Blue Galaxy S3
mine is connected to my asus n66u no problems.
I haven't seen any phone specs state they connect to 5ghz band only 2.4

D-Link 855 - ok
Works here; I had forgot the S3 did N and just reconnected to my g/b I used with my Epic. So I just tried it and it connected just fine using WPA/WPA PSK security.
Thanks for reminding me; sorry yours isn't working. Perhaps a router firmware update or a change in the security you're using on your router??
Make sure WMM is enabled on your router and that's 5.0GHz "N" and not just "A"
The phone will connect, but there's been a few isolated issues with the wifi on it.

His router supports it. I have the exact same router, love it by the way, and have no issues connecting to 5Ghz
For the hell of it did you try giving it a static IP
5ghz works on my tmo sgs3. I have a Cisco e2000 and a netgear wndr3700. I had to select the 5ghz only option in the WiFi settings for the phone too see the 5 ghz routers. After initial set up I switched back to auto.

I have tried static IP address as well with no success. Here are the settings for the wireless part of my router. Please, someone let me know if I have something wrong here. As I said previously, I don't think it's my network, but a limitation of the phone because the HTC EVO 4G LTE connected to my wireless N 5GHz network with no change in settings.

Forgive me, but I do not know what WMM is. Can someone please elaborate?
Ill check your settings against mine when I get home since we have the same router. Unless you get it sorted before that.

From your screenshot 5ghz is enabled on your router. You can get the wifi analyzer app on google play to show you what 5ghz networks are available. It starts by showing your 2.4G networks, click on the screen then a 2.4G icon shows on the top left. Click on that and it will switch to 5G networks.
Have you tried what I suggsted on the phone of selecting 5g networks only? This forced my phone to list the 5G networks, which were not shown original. Then once connected just switch back to auto. vipergtsr6 has a screenshot of the menu. Under Settings > Wi-Fi > Advanced > WiFi frequency band > 5GHz only.
I have a Linksys EA4500 on wireless N only mode on both bands and my SIII connects without issue. All of my setting are the router's defaults other than I'm using channels 6 and 11. You might try to set a static channel instead of using auto and see if that makes any difference?

I have tried all 3 settings: Auto, 5GHZ only, and 2.4GHz only. Same results on all 3 settings. The SSID's are visible and when I try to connect the phone never gets to the optaining IP address part instead it continously cycles from scanning to connecting.

Thanks but in a previous post I did say that I tried to connect with all channels and at all frequencies on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz.

Do you mean choose one channel between 36-48 or 153-165 and take it off "auto"? If so I have tried all of those channels individually and at both widths (20 & 40).

Hi guys, anyone can help me out here with regards to connecting our SGS2 to Wireless N network? I have tried changing my radio frequency setting and even resorted to using WEP authentication instead of WPA, but I just can't get the phone to connect via N network, it always connects via G instead. But under the same settings, I am able to connect my acer laptop and my wife's iphone4 to the N network.
Is there any specific settings I need to configure on my router? I am using a Prolink H5004N adsl2+ modem with wireless N router. The modem is compliant to IEEE 802.11n standards, not draft-n and should work with the SGS2?

Not sure, but I think that it will connect if your N-network are in the 2.4 GHz frequency area, but not in the 5.0 GHz

Yup, tried that too, but still connects to G only. I have also tried configuring router to accept only N networks instead of G/N, but then the SGS2 will not even see the SSID when its performing a wireless scan.

Ive got the same issue. Router Asus RT-N16 (b/g/n, 2.4GHz). Playing with different router firmwares, settings and so on - no luck so far.
Check the "advanced" settings by pressing the menu button in the wireless and make sure nothing wierd is set in there.
Otherwise, as long as the router is set to N only on the 2.4ghz band, it should at _least_ see the SSID.
That modem supports WPS, try pressing the WPS button on the back of the modem and then use the "WPS button connection" option in the wi-fi settings menu on the SGS2.
Remember the single-channel 802.11n 2.4ghz such as the SGS2 supports will only max out at 72mbps anyway so there's not a huge improvement over the 54mbps that 11g will give you, although 11n is more efficient.

thx for fast reply
SGS2 can see SSID, but fails to connect until I force RT-N16 (with custom firmware, RT-N16-1.9.2.7-rtn-r3121) down to "Use 802.11 G only".
Never had any problems with other 802.11 N powered devices.
only wpa2-aes or no encryption are N-standard

wireless N only officially supports either WPA2-AES encryption or no encryption. Devices with drivers that more closely comply to the spec will not connect to WEP or WPA.
I hope you fixed the issue. I stumbled across this thread while asking the same question; maybe someone else will benefit by having this thread wrapped-up also. No haters, egos, persons, etc please. It's been necessary already to block a few of you.
I am not able to connect my Transformer Prime with my new Asus N66U router. I tried all channels and security settings and it only connected when to the router with open system setting. I am able to connect it to my old Netgear WDR3700 in good speed without any problems. Does anyone run into similar situation?
I have the rt-n66u router as well and never had a problem. Are you sure you are using the right encryption settings, Do other devices connect, have you updated the router's firmware? There was a new update just today.
http://support.asus.com/download.as...T-N66U (VER.B1)&os=&hashedid=PZkFHlMrGWzVROxT
have you ensured your router has the latest firmware?
I have the N56u model and no issues.
Yes, I have the latest firmware. My Galaxy Nexus connects just fine. The Transformers Prime actually see the router with strong signal. It just refuses to connect to it. BTW I set the router using WPA-PSK.
Is your prime running the latest update? Or, have you tried DD-WRT?
I have the latest firmware in both devices. However, my Prime is the first batch and may suffers from wifi issues. I may have to try Tomato or Dd-wrt firmware.

Some routers let you disable the broadcasting of the network name (SSID). Computers/network cards that conform correctly with the 802.11 specification will refuse to connect. Have you checked the settings for both 2.4 and 5GHz? - of course the router should not allow disabling of the SSID!
odd. Try wiping the data. Small pin hole in back of router. Reset it. Then 192.168.1.1. go in there and reenter your SSID etc on wireless.
For ****s and giggles. Pump up your 80mw Tx power of wireless to around 160mw. I been running 160mw tx power for awhile and have not and any problems. This baby can go all the way up to 500mw. Of course that is U.S. FCC range limit. With 500mw you can see your wireless from few blocks away.
If your prime is connecting to your other wireless router. Then has to do with some setting in on the RTN66U. Hopefully the wipe will clear any setting in the firmware.
Forgot to mention. Your prime will only connect to the 2.4ghz. It won't connect to the 5ghz wireless.
Did that already. My Transformer does see the 2.4 Ghz SSID with very strong signal. It just keeps reconnecting and fails to connect again eventually. My Galaxy Nexus can connect in a very good speed. Change back to my old Netgear WDR3700 and my transformer connects to it right away. It seems to me that the problem is the security encryption as connection is established right away in open system. However, it just refuse to connect on whatever setting I tried.

What are the WiFi standards on the Router set to?
Sometimes when a router is set to b/g/n (all combined) it can lead to issues.
I generally keep mine at b/g (no n) on the 2.4 Mhz band, since my n devices run on my router's 5 Ghz band anyway. Try that out.
I tried "auto", "legacy" and "n only" with or without "b and g protection" but still could not connect to the router in any combinations. Will like to know the feedback from anyone who put Tomato on N66U.
If you have kept the same SSID as your old router did you delete the old network settings for that SSID in your TP? Also try a new SSID on the router.
If the router supports WiFi Multimedia (WMM) try disabling it and re-enable it after a connection has been made.
I presume you would know if you had enabled an allowed devices table -MAC addresses. The only other thing I can think of is the size of the "hello I'm here" beacon that the router transmits is too long for the TP and I think that would only be an issue with a very long SSID
Yes, I do keep the old SSID. However, I did forget the network and reconnect to it again in Transformer. My SSID is less than 10 characters. It seems to me that the Transformer is not able to get an IP nor pass the authentication stage.

Good to hear!
I've had the occasional connectivity problem with mine, on certain routers I can get connection but no online connectivity.
some routers use a nonstandard DHCP range (i think it may the ones that utilise 192.168.1.x) anyway, if you encounter this it's simple to correct once you know you simply define a manual ip on the prime for that connection and voila! :>

Cool. Glad you got it working.
Well you can always try and pump your TX power adjustment from the default 80 to 160 or more. I was able to increase my range. I think the max is like 500mw the chip is rated at. However, I havent tried that high. I don't want to burn out my chip. Plus heat increases dramatically at those higher mw's. You would have to toss a little laptop cooler underneath it. (run via the routers usb port there).
My connection problem happens again. Just in case someone has similar issue, I solve the problem by exchanging a new one from store.

Any ideas?
I was having a problem connecting to a non-broadcast SSID. The "fix" seemed to be going into wifi settings, select Wifi Frequency Band and put it into 2.4 off of auto. It connected great when I did that and didn't go in and out. I switched back to auto and haven't had a problem since. Might be helpful to some to try.
Wifi is weak for me. Where my laptop can get 1-2 bars, my phone is saying out of range.
ok everyone -
click on settings --> wi-fi --> menu (its soft button upper right hand corner) --> advanced
then click on "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" and it'll stop trying to auto disconnect / connect spastically trying to save a little battery juice.

If you have weak wi-fi, then on this advanced screen, check th circle next to "Best Wi-Fi performance" and it'll kick it into high gear.
I am shocked at the wifi in this, i can see networks several blocks over i can't even see on my desktop or any other device for that matter. it's just one or no bars, but it sees everything around here.

Edit: I think I have fixed the problem (at least for now). I forgot the network and added it again and it's working perfectly.
(I rooted my phone last night)
I tried all of the things that you said, and am still having wifi issues. At my home, wifi connected without problem, but was extremely slow. So slow that it wasn't even usable (much slower than 3G!!!). All other devices I tried have no problems (E4GT, iPad, laptop).
I tried rebooting several times, with no results.
Now I am at school on a different network and it won't even connect (iPad still connects perfectly). Below the wifi network name in settings it goes between "saved" and "connecting".
Is anyone else having these same issues?

I would not recommend using "best wifi performance." On previous htc devices if you used this option it caused a wake lock on the device and didnt improve wifi at all.

I was having wifi issues as well when I first got my Evo LTE, all of my other wifi devices in the house were functioning fine and it was really starting to piss me off saying it was out of range and it was right next to it.
So just for the heck of it I rebooted my router and it fixed everything. So even if all your other devices are good, it cant hurt to give the router a power cycle.

I have a 300n linksys with the tomato firmware on it.
kinda unrelated question - (should i put this in it's own separate topic post??)
How do you set wifi priority, so it'll stay on the one i want it to connect to, not the strongest, or first one it saw, etc etc. can i order the 'saved' networks in any kind of priority list?
Has anybody found a fix for this? I have tried rebooting the router and my phone. I tried different routers. I tried a factory reset on the phone. Nothing is fixing it. Is anybody else still having this problem?
For those who have fixed it, what did you do? If WiFi works on your network, have you tried additional networks?

Ever since rebooting my router, I haven't had a problem.
Have you tried a different network (or did you just change routers on the same network)?
Apparently this is the thread for this issue... Didn't see this when I started the new one.
my original text below.
-------------------------------------------
Under settings/wifi/advanced, I have "keep wifi on during sleep" set to always. Yet after being off for a while, wifi seems to turn off. That is, upon waking phone from sleep, I can see it reconnecting to wifi, THEN my email is downloaded (k9 set to imap push). This indicates the above setting is not being respected.
Under "settings/more/usage/mobile network" is also set to on. This would suggest that even when wifi is not available, 3g/4g would still be used. This also does not seem to be the case. When waking the phone from sleep, I can see it reconnecting to 3g, then immediately connecting to wifi.
The goal is to have data enabled, even when the phone is sleeping so email can be received. The old evo 4g had a setting to keep data on even when phone was asleep.
Suggestions?

Ok.... After 2 hrs I made some headway.
Read this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1590884 . Apparently the one x suffers from this issue to (though not all of [email protected]#).
There's a hidden menu available showing these options.

Initially, the top most, "put data connection to sleep" was checked. I unchecked it, then waited 20+ minutes. Upon waking, wifi was still connected.
Access to this HIDDEN menu is through your launcher's/activities shortcut. If you're using the stock sense launcher, you won't have this, so follow the instructions in this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1627517 .
Although this fix didn't work on the one x, it appears to be working on the evo during my time testing. The real test will be tonight. If I have wifi in the AM, then this works 100%. If not, back to the drawing board
----------------------------------
this isn't the fix unless its just after low power threshold, the fix is in one X forums, you need root and modify some htc system files through shell
^^Confirmed. Wifi still seems to drop although the wifi icon remains present in the status bar. Looking at the wifi devices connected to the router clearly shows no evo connected .
I am rooted, so will have to explore the other fixes in the one x forum or wait for an ota update.

Hello,
I recently bought a Xiaomi Mi A3, and experienced a really unstable/slow connection on Wifi. I'm using the 5GHz network from my router, and it happens even when I'm right next to it, so it's not a problem coming from the router itself. I tried to search similar issues on Google, and found some for the A1/A2, saying it was when the location was turned on. I then turned the location off, and the connection became way more stable and faster. However, this is only a workaround, and I'd like to be able to turn location on without losing my wifi connection. Is there any fixes to it. For example, if I root my phone, and change the ROM, will this become better, or is it a hardware problem?
The problem of slow wifi occurs when bluetooth and localization are active at the same time, disabling one of the two speeds returns to normal.
I have Bluetooth and location on and my Wi-Fi is on par with other devices. Turning off Bluetooth and location gives the same numbers.
Have you tested other devices with Wi-Fi? Try changing Wi-Fi channel in your router.

Changing the channel, the result does not change, the wifi is slow in both 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz with other devices the problem does not occur. I have Stock ROM Android 9 build Number PKQ1.190416.001.V10.3.12.0.PFQEUXM, also the previous version V10.3.7.0.PFQEUXM_20190814 had the same problem.
Same problem here. It's the only issue that I have when I use this phone.

Mi A3 has one antenna shared between wifi and bluetooth radios (not sure about gps and cellular, but I counted only 1 antenna when was watching A3 disassembly video). So when BT is on and does device scanning, or already paired with some device and does data transfer (like playing music), wifi speed will suffer. Wifi scanning itself can cause speed/latency drops, You can alleviate this a bit by disabling Wifi and Bluetooth scanning in settings.

The point is you can probably improve that "congestion" with rooting and/or flashing a custom room, but you'll never get rid of it.
You would need to search for wifi kernel module compile or runtime options (the one used in SD665). An option having something like BTCOEX in its name, like https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/ath9k/btcoex
I just puzzled why some ppl complain that wifi is so bad while others do not. Wonder if EU kernel compiled slightly different.

In my case, with
Bluetooth ON and Gps OFF wifi speed normal
Bluetooth OFF and Gps ON wifi speed normal
Bluetooth ON, Gps ON, wifi speed is low

Yeah, I just ran similar tests with my 5Ghz Wifi. I would not say it's that low, so I would complain. But there is a noticeable ~25% speed drop when BT and GPS are ON, from 200mbps to 150-160mbps in my tests. If either BT or GPS is OFF Wifi throughput stays the same ~200mbps. Also noticed that TCP jitter jumps from 1ms to 15-25ms indicating packet loss and re-transmits.

For me (EU rom) when BT and GPS are ON the speed is very low 1-2 mbps, If either BT or GPS is OFF Wifi throughput stays the same ~130mbps.
I have global rom, nov security patch. Wifi on 5ghz 300mbit and 2.4ghz 300mbit. Internet speed 80/5 mbit/s.
With bt off and location on:
2.4ghz - 45/5mbit
5ghz - 80/5mbit
With bt and location on:
2.4ghz - 25/5mbit (upload quite unstable, jumping between 0 and 5 during test)
5ghz - 40/"3" reaches 3mbit/s upload and then disconnects wifi (tried 5 times - same results)
Tests were made with speedtest app with the phone 1m away from router.
Later today i will try with EU rom.
EU ROM
5 ghz WiFi, channel 42, down/up speeds in mb
BT off, location disabled = 33/12
BT on (connected to Mi Band 4), location disabled = 28/12
BT on (connected to Mi Band 4), location enabled (active Sygic)= 26/10
BT on (connected to Mi Band 4), location enabled (no active GPS app)= 28/11
BT off, location active GPS = 34/12
2.4 ghz WiFi, channel 11, down/up speeds in mb
BT off, location disabled = 40/12
BT on (connected to Mi Band 4), location disabled = 39/12
BT on (connected to Mi Band 4), location enabled (active Sygic)= 36/12
BT on (connected to Mi Band 4), location enabled (no active GPS app)= 35/11
BT off, location active GPS = 38/12
Location has minimum/no impact. Low speed active BT connection interferes with WiFi, but it's on the verge of a statistical error.
I used speedtest app, local server would be more suitable to omit the internet connection/target server variance, but for our purpose it should be enough.
Seems that I had problems with the router config also.
First I tried another 5ghz network.
The speed did decrease around 30% with bt and gps ON, but the connection did not interrupt (although it was jumping from 10 to 35mbit/s during testing).
Then I returned home and changed wifi channels and set the bandwith to 40mHz.
The result was the same as the other network. 30% drop in speed, but connection was stable.
Now I flashed EU rom and the difference between gps+bt on and off is minimal. Maybe 10%.

Global stock rom. But ppl with EU rom posted their test results above and their results are not that bad. 130 vs 2 mbps is a huge drop, wonder if there is some sort of other interference in your environment.

The strange thing is that with other devices, for example with xiaomi mi4c I have no problem, the speed is about 230 mbps at 5Ghz I have some improvement by setting the router to wpa+wpa2-psk instead of wpa2-psk, 20-27 mbps about a 5 Ghz.
No matter the wifi signal strength I noticed that I always get around 10-15% packet loss during testing with bt+gps ON. When OFF, packet loss is always at 0%.
Ping and jitter don't change between ON and OFF
I tried it with another phone with ROM GLOBAL PFQMIXM 10.3.6.0 and the wifi speed with Bluetooth on and Location on is less than normal, but not slow with the other phone with EEA build, PFQEUXM.10.3.12.0 (1-2 mbps in download)
Here's a SpeedTest, from Global ROM
• Wi-Fi on : Bluetooth off and Location off 218 269 ping 3ms jitter 1ms loss 0
• Wi-Fi on : Bluetooth on and Location off 206 244 3ms 2ms 0
• Wi-Fi on : Bluetooth on and Location on 168 216 4ms 1ms 5%
• Wi-Fi on : Bluetooth off and Location on 217 237 4ms 1ms 0
Tested on Global build, PFQMIXM 10.3.6.0
Should I try to reinstall the phone with build EEA PFQEUXM.10.3.12.0

Oops I spoke too soon. There's a huge drop from over 200mbps to less than 100mbps with bt on. My previous test I turned on bt but I didn't have a bt device nearby so there was actually no active connection. So there IS a problem. EU ROM.
