Tethering FCs Settings after upgrading to official ICS - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Every time I try to go to Tethering and mobile hotspot on settings, the phone stops responding for a while and then I get a message that Settings has stopped working.
Anyone figure out how to make it work?

I get the same message every time I try to activate the mobile hotspot.

FoxFi from the play store runs without a problem, but the official tethering FCs every time.

I had the exact same issue and I got it solved by doing a factory reset. all is well now! give it a try

No FC. Just this message. I assume AT&T requires a tethering plan. Screw Them...I use FoxFi anyways.

I'm getting the same issue. Pretty annoying.

I have not tried original tethering but I flashed one that bypasses at&t's check so I can use it even though I don't have tethering plan on my account. Here is the link just flash it through CWM.

have you tried FoxFi?
I will try flashing the zip through CWM and see if that works for me... i'll make a backup before, though. My friend upgraded to ICS this morning and he had go launcher EX installed and go locker and he had to do a full factory wipe on the phone because after the upgrade it wouldn't go past selecting the launcher when going to the home screen...

So... I decided to bite the bullet and do a factory data reset and it fixed the issue. I'm not sure what was wrong but that did the trick. But I just spent an hour getting everything back to how I had it. At least it worked.

Yes mine was doing the same thing but then I did a factory reset and everything is great !

The update does not format system so what ever ROM you were running before this one is flashed over until you do a factory reset. Hence the fc. I flashed back to stock first and did a factory reset before doing the update.

I had some Tasker scripts setup to enable wifi tethering and I found that they still work after the update. Even though you cannot activate tethering through the interface without getting the provisioning error, Tasker can do it with a script.
Weird.

This appears to be exactly what I am looking for! I have a rooted phone and I used Odin to do it. However, I do not know how to flash a CWM with Odin that is a .zip file. when I rooted I had an .md5 file. I can't choose a .zip file... I am a noob with android (obviously). Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Chuck

After the ICS update, there were other things that weren't working on my phone. Tethering was the first one I found, but with time I started getting more and more FCs, the car dock being one of the most annoying, so I had to resort to a factory reset, unfortunately, but after I did it, everything works just fine.

No release notes yet hopefully they will come soon!
This will of course break root but that's easily fixed using either Torpedo method or One Click Root.

If you have the following setup please use caution. This update may halt during the process.
Phone Info: Alien Rom

Is it still rootable? Does dock method work? Dockless methods?
---------- Post added at 05:30 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:20 AM ----------
Darn. Get same error I got when last OTA came around. Box comes up after phone restarts that says software update failed. I had to use the SBF that was released in the forum to get the last update. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I am rooted with the dock method and do not have bootstrap recovery installed although I did have it one time before I installed the last OTA by way of an SBF. I would do a factory reset and then try upgrading only if any of you think that will work unless there are any other suggestions.
I just used the one click dockless root after the update at it worked smoothly.
Argh. It is refusing to update just like the last OTA. Did more checking with holding down the volume up and down to get recovery into a more textish mode and I got some sort of a status 7 error on checking current system. Too many hex characters to copy down in that error but the update was talking about a file in my /cache folder refering to 45.2.5. So I cleared cache partition. No go. Can anyone advise on how to get this to update? I had the same problem with last month's OTA and I had to use the SBF which is currently not available. Any tips or help?
Torpedo

I just rooted me an my girls Photon using Torpedo method
I downloaded the OTA and it restarted the phone like normal but then starts to flash and stops...just sits on the Android with the exclamation point screen. Been there for about thirty minutes. I'd advise caution if you have a similar setup as me.

Best advice, if you want the update, you probably have to sbf back to stock, do a master reset you will most likely be good. You need the stock recovery for the update to work me thinks.
-DJ
Then the question remains, what does this update do...and does it make it worth the trouble of going through all that?
Pretty sure someone said something about wireless connectivity.
I'm going to be flashing soon, will post how it goes.
-DJ
Cool. Sounds good.
Actually, you can just flash the stock recovery image from this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216143
right under Pudding Remover.
There is a flashable stock recovery after all, I did not know this. I will do it, but my battery is too low. Going to jump in the shower and see how it goes afterwards.
EDIT: I find this to be very cool as I tried to flash it in fastboot mode and looking at the cmd prompt it said error 'cannot load stock recovery.smg'. I then look at my phone and it straight told me that my battery was too low. Pretty damn fool proof system. I like it!
-DJ

When you say sbf back to stock, do you mean to reflash the file
1FF-sunfire-user-2.3.4-4.5.1A-1_SUN-154_5-CM-release-keys-signed-Sprint-US.sbf
?
I ask because this file does not take you to stock. Your phone is installed as it was but with this software version. If you mean to flash another SBF, can you please link to it? Because I believe pudding is the only other SBF on here and I don't think you mean that as that is the unlocker.

Yes, it provides you with the stock recovery which is what you need. I also made another post a couple above this one that explained where to get the stock recovery from, which is really all you need. I guess it doesn't know how to do the update with a custom recovery. Sucks but at least you don't need to flash that whole big file. Just a small quick one. Also, you need to do the small file the (.smg) file in fastboot, not with rsd lite.

My problem is that it is no where near as strong as my Evo was. Using wireless N router so it has some serious saturation. This thing still only gets 2 or 3 bars when I am -10ft away where my Evo was full bars around the whole house. Not to mention this bluetooth thing is really getting annoying.

I don't know about autorec. Make a backup then flash this rom. It should work.
Gimme some time. I just put this out yesterday.

Sorry, forget to say, kernel, modem and system are in the zip. But the modem has the same number, just a tiny bit smaller.
So this will not give lg security error on reboot?can anyone confirm.

Ok.. But does it feel or run better than ZV8 at all?? I downloaded this morning but haven't had time to flash yet. Thanks..
@engine95 how did you bump the kernel. I tried bumping the kernel and it would not boot. Is it okay for me to just take your kernel out of the zip file? I assume that you had to keep the padding. Is there a new bump tool because the one that I use breaks stuff.

You're more than welcome to use it. Just give credit.
I had to unpack and repack it a different way. Sneaky LG/Sprint. Try using "Android Image Kitchen." mkbootimg tools didn't work as the compression is different.
Your bump should work this way.
I haven't got the fixes/kernel, but this rom feels a lot faster for me. only problem, which might be attributed to the kernel, is my battery died today after 4 hours (died before noon) of sitting in my pocket lol but i work in a building with absolutely no cell service, but usually my phone lasts all day at work, and i have to charge when i get home, or on the way home.
And i did try the Bare Navel Kernel last night before i went to bed, and got the LG Security error trying to boot up.

Root s7 at&t g930a & g935a

Warning this is engboot, meaning its not made to be used on day to day basis you may run into some issues. Hopefully we can fix them as we go!
Also do not update supersu through playstore untill we are for sure that it wont mess anything up

You will need:
- Engineering boot images
- Patched version of Odin3 (only AT&T models ?)
- Extract files, and run root.bat with adb on the path
This version of SuperSU is not officially supported. I recommend against updating the APK from the Play Store, or otherwise updating the binaries, unless someone knowledgable has tried before you and confirmed it worked.
If it breaks, you get to keep all the pieces.
First of all thanks to @Chainfire for helping achieve su
I take no responsibility for anything that happens to your device, same goes for everyone that helped.
1. Download Modified Odin and Engineering Kernel
Odin:
MOD EDIT: DOWNLOAD LINK REMOVED
This is special Odin to bypass SHA-256 made by Princecosmy
Second file you will need is
Kernel:
G935A (Edge) MOD EDIT: DOWNLOAD LINK REMOVED
G930A (S7) MOD EDIT: DOWNLOAD LINK REMOVED
This is the engboot
2. Flash the kernel to your phone
a. Boot into download mode (Power, Volume Down, and Home button)
b. Put the Kernel file into AP on Odin
c. Flash, and boot phone
3. Download SuperSU made for our phone, and extract into C:\adb\super
(You're going to need to create the "super" folder)
SuperSU: https://download.chainfire.eu/968/Su....74-2-S7QC.zip
4 Open a command prompt in C:\adb
(Shift right-click in the folder, click "Open command window here")
then navigate to the super folder: type "cd super" into the command prompt
5 Enable USB debugging on your phone, and enter the following command into the command prompt
a. "Root.bat"
(This is what the command prompt will display when finished:

Usually clearing the cache and letting it rebuild helps. However, like everything else, try it at your own risk. The boot method just came out so there is going to have to be a lot of trial and error before things smooth out. Generally, first adapters (such as yourself) are often the ones that have to try things before anyone knows if it works or not. Best case scenario is that it helps, worst case scenario is saying bye bye to your phone. Then again, anytime you do anything to your phone there is always risk. Good luck and let us know if you try anything that seems to help (or hurt).

okay, not really a noob, but not really an expert, I have been doing this kind of things since the LG ally. but I am baffled, ever since root I cannot for the life of me get this little cyclone icon or the vo)) lte icon to Go Away. I don't have an option for HD voice in any setting, nor do I have a setting for rcs service. I have been scowling through threads for about 3 hrs, so I have looked for an answer, pretty much my last resort here. any help would be great!!!

I followed the instructions and got Odin to flash but once my phone reboots it gets stuck at the at&t logo. I can turn it off via vol down+power but once it boots back up it stops at the logo again. Any idea on what to do to either get it back to normal or moving forward?

Interesting problem here. Restarted the phone for a reason unrelated to the root, and it's stuck at the AT&T logo. Won't boot no matter what. Wiping/Factory restore doesn't fix it either. It'll wipe and reset but never gets to the setup, just stays at the logo. Any ideas?

Note 3 Sprint Baseband/connection issues.

Hey all! Having some issues i'm hoping someone will be able to help me with. I just rooted my note 3 yesterday (not the first time) and I seemed tho have lost data (no 4g, 3g, 2g) nothing. I have searched far and wide trying to find a fix with no avail. I have tried flashing with odin the mj4 firmware .I have tried different roms, I have attempted to manually add an APN and still no luck. I'm clueless now and have no idea what to do. Here is how I rooted my phone yesterday:
youtube.com/watch?v=eDHSXn5KwAw (used the odin installer available as well as the .tar)
Installed twrp.
I then installed the Phronesis rom (so bad a$$) but had no data.
I tried then to use the cynagen 13 and still no data.
If anyone could help me out I'd greatly appreciate it!

I tried to set it up manually too and it still did not work.
#Update:
I was able to get data now with a different ROM (pac man rom). However, I can only get 3g and not 4g. So, 3g wifi and anything under 3g I can get but...it sucks. I went from I cant even remember what Modem to now I have OC5. Not sure what else to try or do. I did notice that the roms I was having issues with no data seemed to be the ones ported for 6.0. Now I'm on 5.1.1 and have 3g...maybe a different rom?

Also, make sure you're on the correct preferred network. Roms sometimes like to use OTHER networks that aren't compatible. Use an app like 4G Switcher or similar to change it. If you're in the USA, "LTE/GSM/CDMA" works for me. In past roms, "LTE/CDMA" has sometimes connected me to the verizon network, which i'm not a part of. I am on OK2 modem, if it matters. https://idlekernel.com/flash-tools/firmware/hltespr_SM-N900P/

I've tried the N7 Phronesis rom and didn't like it due to the wifi icon not working properly. Probably other minor bugs if i used it a bit more. I'm using "N2o.Aurora.N7.Lite.1.1" instead. I get cell service/data from both roms. The no data/simcard notification will go away once you get on the network you're meant to be on. Try what I said on my previous post. You'll have to play with the network settings a bit. I enable airplane mode first so the popups go away.

You'll have to redo the process if you reboot your phone. All note7 ports have the same problem. It's a manageable problem at least. s7 ports would have the dialer fc and lose cell service if other person hung up first. Note 7 ports don't have this problem.

His rom was an altered darklord n5 rom anyways. You can always goto samsungvn for the final version of that. I don't remember if anything else needed to be done to get it working other than apn.
