Every time I try to go to Tethering and mobile hotspot on settings, the phone stops responding for a while and then I get a message that Settings has stopped working.
Anyone figure out how to make it work?
I get the same message every time I try to activate the mobile hotspot.

FoxFi from the play store runs without a problem, but the official tethering FCs every time.
I had the exact same issue and I got it solved by doing a factory reset. all is well now! give it a try

No FC. Just this message. I assume AT&T requires a tethering plan. Screw Them...I use FoxFi anyways.

I'm getting the same issue. Pretty annoying.
I have not tried original tethering but I flashed one that bypasses at&t's check so I can use it even though I don't have tethering plan on my account. Here is the link just flash it through CWM.

have you tried FoxFi?
I will try flashing the zip through CWM and see if that works for me... i'll make a backup before, though. My friend upgraded to ICS this morning and he had go launcher EX installed and go locker and he had to do a full factory wipe on the phone because after the upgrade it wouldn't go past selecting the launcher when going to the home screen...

So... I decided to bite the bullet and do a factory data reset and it fixed the issue. I'm not sure what was wrong but that did the trick. But I just spent an hour getting everything back to how I had it. At least it worked.

Yes mine was doing the same thing but then I did a factory reset and everything is great !
The update does not format system so what ever ROM you were running before this one is flashed over until you do a factory reset. Hence the fc. I flashed back to stock first and did a factory reset before doing the update.
I had some Tasker scripts setup to enable wifi tethering and I found that they still work after the update. Even though you cannot activate tethering through the interface without getting the provisioning error, Tasker can do it with a script.
Weird.

This appears to be exactly what I am looking for! I have a rooted phone and I used Odin to do it. However, I do not know how to flash a CWM with Odin that is a .zip file. when I rooted I had an .md5 file. I can't choose a .zip file... I am a noob with android (obviously). Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Chuck
After the ICS update, there were other things that weren't working on my phone. Tethering was the first one I found, but with time I started getting more and more FCs, the car dock being one of the most annoying, so I had to resort to a factory reset, unfortunately, but after I did it, everything works just fine.

Hi guys,
I am on NH7 4.4.4 stock firmware.
I have an issue with GPS locking... Sometimes maps keeps 'waiting for location' and sometimes off the location by more than a km.
Installed GPS status and i get following result. Tried factory reset but did not work. It shows location when connected via wifi but not on mobile carrier, using in India.
Is anyone facing the issue.. Any input guys.. Been trying to fix since 2 weeks used gps fix app on plays store too but no use

My phone isn't new, got it from someone who had already upgraded it, I normally wait for the review before i take the OTA
And thanks mate but i heard directly flashing NC5 over NH7 will lead to brick.
that's the main concern nothing else, i had gone through your post before and hence posted the same query in your thread.
Is it possible to downgrade from NH7 to NC5 directly through odin? it wont brick right?

Downgrading from NH7 to NC5 through odin is the best way to go. That will put you back to bone stock. It will not hard brick, it may bootloop. Read through these threads a few weeks back when NH7 4.4.4 OTA came out http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-sprint/help/4-4-4-download-mode-t2877528 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-sprint/help/upgrade-to-4-4-4-revert-to-4-4-2-t2878402 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-sprint/help/recovery-boot-issue-t2884488 let me know how it goes !!!
Seems like a lot of work ^
I went from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 and had a issue with GPS as well.
I simply went back to a TW Rom, enabled location, went to google maps and let it lock my position. Once this is done, I booted into recovery and flashed the 4.4.4 Rom.
once booted I went to the playstore and downloaded gps fix.
Opened up app, pressed start gave it 3 minutes and bam, locked and loaded.
Went into google maps and all was well.

mate you mentioned you are using XAS and not SPR version of firmware.
1. any differences apart from sprint logo? and which network are you on CDMA with evdo?
2. Do u you have direct options for APN and hotspot like in 4.4.4 NH7? if possible, please post a screenshot of your settings->General tab

The only thing I have noticed with XAS is no yellow Sprint logo on boot up and shut down. My " Preferred network mode" setting is LTE / CDMA. I still run 4.4.2 NC5, waiting for android 5.0 L (lollipop) to show up, then I will unroot and take the OTA. I did the same thing with NH7 when it came out, and people started having trouble so went back to NC5. As for my hotspot I purchased WiFi Tether Router a long time ago best $2.50 I ever spent. If you want to enable your hotspot for free here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/not.../app-one-click-hotspot-enabler-menus-t2816159

On NH7, wifi hotspot is available by default, no app is required, did u check mate?
and thanks for all the help, will try downgrading to NC5 in a day or two, btw which cwm hltespr version you are using?

I use Philz custom CWM, there are two versions that work. First is the latest 6.48.4. hlte this version is the one size fits all, totally customizable. The other is 6.12.9. hltespr this version is only for a Sprint device, I use this one it has been absolutely bulletproof. It's a little older, you can change the background color and font color, here is the link for Philz https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/
@jimzweb1
i dont customise anything, just want a recovery which can take a backup perfectly and restore without issues and of course wiping, flashing and fixing permission.
i guess cwm 6.12.9 is the way to go !!
Btw mate have you faced any issues on GPS? do u know any rom which would be good for that?
Had a note 2 and a developer had provided GPS fix for regions like asia, US, Europe and so on, didnt see that here.
so on stock, your GPS is accurate?

This worked for me as well. I went back to stock touchwiz rom, enabled gps and got a fix using google maps. with gps enabled, i rebooted and flashed custom roms with working GPS. something about the GPS is built into the hardware or something, and it has to be turned on during the install.

No I was NOT on a stock rom and haven't been on one for a year, don't plan on either.
You could try @freezas stockish wizless Rom if you'd feel more comfortable.
I did however indeed come from @sac23s MOAR V5 Rom and haven't had an issue with GPS.
Granite my GPS doesn't lock immediately, it'll usually take 5 seconds or so to get a lock and the GPS to realize exactly where I'm at.
Did you try downloading from the playstore the app called GPS fix?

Yeah gps fix, gps toolbox tried quite a few.. A reboot does get me locked on satellites but doesn't show coordinates on GPS status and tool app.
Maps show me the same position in high accuracy n Power saving mode, GPS only doesn't get me locked on maps
But as GPS status app does show satellites.. I feel it's not a hardware issue!!

Ok so heres my problem, im from canada, went to the usa for a bit. Bought the said phone. lg g3 ls990. unlocked it popped in my WIND sim, everything worked perfect. drove back to canada still working fine. soon as i get to downtown toronto signal lost and hasnt worked since( this was 3 days ago). Anyone has any ideas?
heres what ive tried so far
: returning to stock.
:trying different modem
: tried my wifes sim in my phone and mines in hers (same wind Mobile) my sim worked in her phone, hers didnt work in mine
:tried using the phone in different areas thinking it may be a reception issue.
the phone does show the correct apn settings for wind though and if i do a search for networks, it does show wind but gaves an error trying to connect.
NONE of the above has worked. Any ideas anyone? thanks in advance.
Try this: https://swappa.com/esn
If it says that it was stolen or something.... It will be VERY hard to get data. Also try running ##update# in the phone dialer app.
esn clean and the dialer code does nothing, thanks though.

No luck here, the phone was not unlocked with optopus box before lost gsm signal. So the problem is not the unlock with the box, also it should work.
I've been tried everything and the same result. "No service". So I think I need a new motherboard, sadly.

Well, first when I bought it I unlock it replacing the 2 files on carrier folder without any problems, I used so may Roms and got no problems, cloudy Roms came unlocked by defould and worked very well, but now you know my story.
I've had been done everything, replacing the two unlocking files, changed permission (before I did not do that and ever worked just throwing the 2 files in carrier folder), full restore with .tot with LGflashtool, used other ROM, other unlocking files and tried to unlock it with octopus box, restoring the EFS folder, changing Imei, repairing 3g\4g with no luck. Now I'm on stock android 5.0, I definitely don't know what more to do.

I haven't tried that yet. Still experimenting with this new rom.
I know I need to modify for the ext sd though. But that's not a big deal.

Make a backup first. Then try it. I'll try it tomorrow just cuz I'm curious too.
If you get slow dl from there, just pick another server. That usually works.
Navel kernel doesn't work for this rom. Just flashed it and got a security error on boot
See post #3 for files and fixes. All flashable in TWRP
What changes in ZVA?
Nav-bar and status bar are missing, don't know what happened. Came from [ROM][GSM/[Stock 5.0.1]PRIMEGSM (V3.1), full wiped including internal.

Just little things really. Nothing major.
Mostly I've noticed the WiFi calling just has the icon now.

You probably need to do one of the dialer codes I've posted in other threads.

Sorry, forget to say, kernel, modem and system are in the zip. But the modem has the same number, just a tiny bit smaller.
So this will not give lg security error on reboot?can anyone confirm.

Ok.. But does it feel or run better than ZV8 at all?? I downloaded this morning but haven't had time to flash yet. Thanks..
@engine95 how did you bump the kernel. I tried bumping the kernel and it would not boot. Is it okay for me to just take your kernel out of the zip file? I assume that you had to keep the padding. Is there a new bump tool because the one that I use breaks stuff.

You're more than welcome to use it. Just give credit.
I had to unpack and repack it a different way. Sneaky LG/Sprint. Try using "Android Image Kitchen." mkbootimg tools didn't work as the compression is different.
Your bump should work this way.
I haven't got the fixes/kernel, but this rom feels a lot faster for me. only problem, which might be attributed to the kernel, is my battery died today after 4 hours (died before noon) of sitting in my pocket lol but i work in a building with absolutely no cell service, but usually my phone lasts all day at work, and i have to charge when i get home, or on the way home.
And i did try the Bare Navel Kernel last night before i went to bed, and got the LG Security error trying to boot up.
Warning this is engboot, meaning its not made to be used on day to day basis you may run into some issues. Hopefully we can fix them as we go!
Also do not update supersu through playstore untill we are for sure that it wont mess anything up

You will need:
- Engineering boot images
- Patched version of Odin3 (only AT&T models ?)
- Extract files, and run root.bat with adb on the path
This version of SuperSU is not officially supported. I recommend against updating the APK from the Play Store, or otherwise updating the binaries, unless someone knowledgable has tried before you and confirmed it worked.
If it breaks, you get to keep all the pieces.
First of all thanks to @Chainfire for helping achieve su
I take no responsibility for anything that happens to your device, same goes for everyone that helped.
1. Download Modified Odin and Engineering Kernel
Odin:
MOD EDIT: DOWNLOAD LINK REMOVED
This is special Odin to bypass SHA-256 made by Princecosmy
Second file you will need is
Kernel:
G935A (Edge) MOD EDIT: DOWNLOAD LINK REMOVED
G930A (S7) MOD EDIT: DOWNLOAD LINK REMOVED
This is the engboot
2. Flash the kernel to your phone
a. Boot into download mode (Power, Volume Down, and Home button)
b. Put the Kernel file into AP on Odin
c. Flash, and boot phone
3. Download SuperSU made for our phone, and extract into C:\adb\super
(You're going to need to create the "super" folder)
SuperSU: https://download.chainfire.eu/968/Su....74-2-S7QC.zip
4 Open a command prompt in C:\adb
(Shift right-click in the folder, click "Open command window here")
then navigate to the super folder: type "cd super" into the command prompt
5 Enable USB debugging on your phone, and enter the following command into the command prompt
a. "Root.bat"
(This is what the command prompt will display when finished:

Usually clearing the cache and letting it rebuild helps. However, like everything else, try it at your own risk. The boot method just came out so there is going to have to be a lot of trial and error before things smooth out. Generally, first adapters (such as yourself) are often the ones that have to try things before anyone knows if it works or not. Best case scenario is that it helps, worst case scenario is saying bye bye to your phone. Then again, anytime you do anything to your phone there is always risk. Good luck and let us know if you try anything that seems to help (or hurt).
icon
okay, not really a noob, but not really an expert, I have been doing this kind of things since the LG ally. but I am baffled, ever since root I cannot for the life of me get this little cyclone icon or the vo)) lte icon to Go Away. I don't have an option for HD voice in any setting, nor do I have a setting for rcs service. I have been scowling through threads for about 3 hrs, so I have looked for an answer, pretty much my last resort here. any help would be great!!!
odin is getting stuck at setupconnection. I'm on the latest ATT update, could that be the problem? Trying this on the S7 Edge/935A

I followed the instructions and got Odin to flash but once my phone reboots it gets stuck at the at&t logo. I can turn it off via vol down+power but once it boots back up it stops at the logo again. Any idea on what to do to either get it back to normal or moving forward?

how do I post the picture of my screenshot??
Has anyone tried this method on a Verizon model?
It looks like it works on Sprint, so I'm curious. If not, I can try it tomorrow night when I get home from traveling.

Interesting problem here. Restarted the phone for a reason unrelated to the root, and it's stuck at the AT&T logo. Won't boot no matter what. Wiping/Factory restore doesn't fix it either. It'll wipe and reset but never gets to the setup, just stays at the logo. Any ideas?
