Non app store apps wont install? - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

Has anyone had the problem where non app store apps will not install. From the screenshot below I can hit cancel but pushing install will not do anything? Other than directly pushing any .apk to system/app is there a way to fix this or am I just missing something?
Thanx-

Sorry I can't see your screenshot, but, have you tried going into Settings -> Security -> check 'Unknown Sources'? Without this checked you will be unable to install any apps outside of the App Store.

Market crashes after 2.1 install

Hi -
Since upgrading to 2.1 I can't install anything from the Market... It allows me to download files, but as soon as it goes to the install step, the Market crashes and exits. The same happens each time I try.
Any ideas?
Thank you

same problem here, market FC (process.com.android.vending force closes)
Same here. Updated today. Everything is working except the market. But my error seems different. I chose download an app an it just keeps stuck at the download started screen. Any suggestions?
It happen to me too today. It keep crashing on installing process.
This is what I do.
Go to settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> Choose Market Application -> Click Clear Cache -> Click Uninstall, it will ask whether we want to uninstall market update. I go with Yes, and the uninstalling process proceed.
After that I start my Market application from Apps menu and when it started, it show TOS (Term of Services) which is of course I choose Accept. After that my market works again. But I don't know why it happen. Hopefully this can be help for you guys.
hey guys,

i had to reflash today due to a bad theme, and when i did so, i restored all files via titanium backup, went to the marketplace, and presto, same FC issue as experienced by others.

[Q] Google Play auto download all apps (yep noob question)

DEVICE: Nook Color
OS: Currently Android CM7
App: Google Play
Subject: Easiest way to re-download apps
OK, searched Google, searched the forum, used the "Here are the similar threads we found:" and couldn't find a definitive answer.
I originally installed CM7, then tried CM9 and am now going back to CM7. In the meantime, I have installed A LOT of apps from Google play. No, I didn't do any backups using Titanium, but I will once I get the apps back.
Somewhere along the way I got the impression that Google Play automatically downloaded all the apps you already purchased on your "new" device. I did see the screen during initial setup that said something about doing what I thought was downloading the apps, but I read it as if you want to do this later, click cancel.
So, can I trigger a download of all those apps, or do I just need to pony up and click install in Google Play on the device for EVERY app and remember to use Titanium backup the next time I am planning on wiping my device?
Hmm...why not you try to clear data from the play store app via settings?it should prompt you again...

On the device, Go to Play, then settings? No obvious option for that from what I see.
I don't see anything under the device settings either.
go to settings->manage applications->play store->clear data,cache

Found it. OK, now should I get prompted somewhere to re-download? I didn't.
Worse case, I did find a decent spot on the Google Play website I can push the apps from on my PC. Still have to do it one at a time, but easier than through the Nook.
O.O ...then try to uninstall the google play update...it will redownload again...no guarantee that you will get what you want but won't do any harm either...

Well, thanks. I ended up reload my wife's...I upgraded her from a 1GB to a 32GB and got no real upgrade prompt from Google, so fortunately Titanium Backup worked. I guess I misread that prompt. I'm guessing it's just actual data, not apps.

OK, so I wiped mine last night and loaded CM9...and it started downloading the apps (after prompts). That ran like garbage, so I reloaded CM7 again this morning. Nothing...must be a feature of CM9 somewhere?
I am really confused.
It is an option on the Android OS, not particularly on CM7 or CM9.
I don't have the NC in front of me now so I can't confirm for sure but under Settings -> Privacy (or something alike), there is an option called "Automatic restore". If you get it checked, it will automatically re-download and reinstall all apps that saved/stored on your google account. You may uncheck it if you don't like.
.
Try doing exactly like votinh said. It works for me.

I'm wondering if it is only with ICS...or some post CM7 based build. I did find an article on it so at least I feel a little more sane. However the setting you are referring to is only for data. That makes me think there's something different between the CM7 & CM9 builds...perhaps Android itself added the option between the two.

I've tried that before, but I unchecked the box and checked it again to no avail.
Settings > Privacy > Automatic Restore was checked by default. I unchecked then checked again and no apps came down and I was never prompted.

Not sure if this is what you are talking about, but if you go to the bottom of Google Play, and click My Orders and Devices, then on the next page, select the My Devices Tab, I think you can delete it there.

I am having the same issue - did resetting the devices work?
if u dont have too many apps then go on play store find that apps and under stays to check option Auto Update
I FIGURED IT OUT ! =) ... well to some extent ..
In CM 10 i just went to the ROM Manager and choose "Fix Permissions" And after a reboot it started downloading my apps again =)
Now i have used "Fix permissions" in CM RECOVERY mode a hundred times before. But that did not help my apps to auto-download on a new device.
So just to be clear. this is the APP "ROM Manager" NOT the "volup+home+power" CM Recovery "Fix Permissions"

[Q] How to disable Playstore Updates?

Hi guys,
just got my new phone and unfortunately i had to realize, that there are some apps i cant install.
I know that this issue depends on my Playstore, so i want to install a custom playstore with no restrictions.
Did this many times on other phones and never got problems.
But this time there is a problem:
I can install the modded version of the playstore without any problems. But it self-updates every time and i cant do anything against.
In the Last android versions there was a "Market Updater" App, which you could just freeze to avoid this.
But in my Android 4.2.2 theres no such app.
Any Ideas how i can prevent the Playstore from updating?

Dude you sure about that, I mean if you have knowledge how to install custom play store than you must have the basic knowledge from where to disable the auto update feature.
goto play store>settings>Auto update apps select here none.
After this you will have to manually update all your apps that you want.
Sorry if I misinterpreted your query..
Press thanks button on the left side of my post.

i think you can just download 1 of the versions in the bottom of the post, and just rename it to vending.apk or phonesky.apk and push it to /system/app (just replace the original vending.apk or phonesky.apk) (and backup your original file)
hm...but how? if i click on one of those links i get referred to another Posts where it only shows MD5 sums

which phone do you use by the way? cause it could also be that the apps you miss are incompatible with the phone.
there is however, an app that also appears to be able to remove the restrictions (i think with a proxy of some kind), this app is mostly used for apps unavailable in certain countries.

Unfortunately, Settings has stopped.

any time I navigate to settings then Apps i got "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped." but other options in Settings are working well. i got the error only when i tried to access "Apps"
please how do i fix this?.
i have cleared the cache, dalvic cache but non work out

This also happens when you have hidden some apps from android system or settings app using xposed module or something so first look at that
Secondly, if this is not the case then I recommend you to just do a simple factory reset
Hope this helps

Android O unrooted - YouTube app will not update

My phone has YouTube version 12.16.16 installed when the newest version in the Play Store is 12.19.56.
However the YouTube page in the play store does not show an Update button, just an Open button.
I downloaded the latest version APK, but I'm getting an "App not installed" error message while trying to install the APK.
After doing some google searching I reset app preferences, cleared cache of the Play Store and the Play Services apps and restarted the phone. Afterwards I'm still getting an error while installing the APK.
Any advice?

When I disable YouTube it just gets disabled. I do not get asked any questions. I still do not know how to get updates.
Anybody has an advice?
Not any app should be disabled. It's hard to tell as we don't know all modifications you did to your system. It seems to be working for everyone.

You have no idea what I'm talking about obviously
On earlier versions (not sure about on O), when you disable it'll ask you if you want to uninstall updates. You can then re-enable and reinstall the updates.

If you don't want root, flash twrp with fastboot, boot to twrp recovery, mount system, use twrpfilemanager to delete YouTube, use twrp to install stock recovery.img, boot system and install YouTube from playstore.
First you can try to download YouTube.apk from apkmirror.com and try updating manually.
Edit, sry you tried that already.
Good luck, root makes life easier

Twice you quote my whole post but only answer the part you are interested in.
The suggestion that I gave after yours to re-enable all apps is valid whatever you say and includes your ''two seconds fix''.... I brought this to his attention because he's still asking for help.
So if your fix doesn't work OP can try this and ultimately factory reset.

Nice bull****ting with your factory reset, lol
I was on O and had the new updated youtube tabs. After resetting it back to 7.1.2 the tabs didn't appear. Deleted the app from system with no luck.
Can you clarify on how you think a factory reset would solve this?
