I've downloaded to my phone (not installed) the proper modem (for what I read anyway) now I need stock gb...I've looked around and read a few threads but im just not 100% sure which one I need and what order to do it in. Would I flash modem via cwm and than Odin stock gb?

The stock ROM is on here, but you can connect to Kies and in the Tools Menu use Emergency Firmware Recovery. This will wipe everything and put a clean version of the current ROM on the device. In this case ICS. Several members have reported doing the upgrade that way and it worked.

I'm rooted via S2, I understand there are many ways to root, this worked for me. Is there any difference(s) in the end result using other methods?
I want to back up my phone with cwm, yet I'm still on stock recovery, how then can I backup my stock recovery to instal CWM recovery? if by installing CWM recovery I'll lose my stock recovery?
I've seen a video on youtube how by putting a motorola droid in bootloader mode connected to a pc, then clicking on the phone icon on the pc will show a image file, this i assume is the stock recovery. He backs this up to pc and places a new image to phone. then reboots.
my question; is this the procedure for all phones including the sgs2 to get cwm recovery to work??

You've so far made 7 new threads in the last 5 days, on basic stuff. Can you do a bit of reading of these forums before making any more new ones?
Thats because I personally couldn't find what I've been searching for, for 2weeks already! and all I've read didn't work.. coupled with little feedback from the threads I've posted here.
or ..
is this forum not for newbies: and those not in the 'know' have to magically know..........

As posted backup syupid method .
Root with cwm.
Save original kernel or download one.
Restore is cwm recovery restore then flash original kernel.
Simple method when returning. Is flash stock rom .
Other method cwm backup open back up. Extract zimage and replace with original .

much appreciated!!
I'm gona start from scratch tomorrow with all I've done already on my sgs2 and perform the above.
What I've realised is what works on 1 sgs2 doesn't necessarily work on all. Given by default (just out of the box) on my sgs2, I've read of operations and/or change of settings that can be carried out, that I don't simply have on my device/or can perform. So it makes it confusing.
Anyway, thanks for the info/reassurance.

Hello, im new to this form but i love it. I recently sold my iphone 4 and got a galaxy s2 from australia. I wanna root it and install.custom roms. As i researched on the web, i tried to fine insecure kernal and etc but i couldnt find it. it was something like I9010tdujk. So i was being stupid and put my phone on download mode and used odlin to install litening rom directlty and it works flawless?????? is my phone gonna brick if i keep using it??? Hellp plz
No, it won't brick.
Most custom ROM have custom CWM recovery and kernel included allowing nandroid backups and flashing directly from sdcard (internal or external). I am not sure if your ROM has CWM, but you will need to flash a CWM root kernel such as Chainfire or siyahkernel .tar file with Odin
http://www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/2012/01/26/siyahkernel-v2-6-11/
Search the thread to backup EFS folder before going anything else. If this gets corrupted, you will not be able to access any network with damned IMEI. Many ways to backup, inc. GS2 repair, and hellcat k-tool in the market. Once baked up, save to PC.
Your csc may not be correct for your country, but you can just enter the APN manually in mobile settings. Changing csc will factory reset.
You may also have to flash / try different modems to get the best signal and data stability/speed. There are Odin and CWM flashable around.

thank you for the reply but i couldnt understand any of that
The phone was using a stock rom before i rooted it wrong and was locked to vodafone. I simply put the phone on download mode by (vol down, home and power) and used odlin to install the Litening rom which i belive the most download on the xda site. and now after a day of using, it heats up fast and battary life looks to drain fast.
Best to start again and read all the stickies first.

Once you've had a read, follow the instructions exactly, and never use pit and never repartition with Odin.

Hi,
First of all I've done a lot of searching and no success on how to do it, if possible.
I have a SGSII rooted(CF-Root) with CheckROM RevoHD V4 and ICS Domination Theme.
I wanted to know, how can i restore back entirely to stock and be able to do normal kies updates since a co-worker is buying my phone full price but with the condition i take it back entirely to stock.
I already did a firmware restore following this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
But although it doesn't seem to be rooted anymore Baseband Version and Kernel Version say different things and Build Number says CheckROM RevoHD V4, and the Domination Theme is still applied.
If there is a way to do what i want to do I would appreciate any help.
Thank you in advance.
The flash didn't work properly.
What worked for me only a few weeks ago was....
Using CWM format internal SD.
Using Odin flash stock firmware.
Using jig reset flash counter.
Everything was back to how it bought it.
Should be all you need to do.

Well im going to try that tonight but ill have to reflash cwm since i dont have it anymore for some reason
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
you gotta wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik cache
then grab a stock rom and flash it with odin, use intratech post under original android dev forum, with that you will lose everything and have a stock rom/modem/kernel
cheers
You can just delete the contents of internal SD instead of formatting. I just formatted to make it easier.
Like said about do a factory reset/wipe before flashing with Odin if your downgrading.
Hope it all goes well for you.

Ok I'm downloading one firmware from north america in that i think is not branded since my SGS2 it's suppose to be the international and I'm going to reinstall cf-root to have clockwork again and do it all over...
Only have to flash a cfroot kernel to temporarily have CWM. Not whole Rom if you just want to format etc.
Then flash a whole new stock Rom to reset to that version.

Im looking for a 2.3.6 GB stock or close to stock rom for i717 maybe debloated that i can flash via cwm not odin, as i am not near a Desktop.

Maybe you should re-read OP question as your response is not correct.
@OP- At this point odin is your only option.
ah, I see. my bad.
same situation here. the way i think it could work (to still be able to reset the counter) is:
1. flash system, kernel, and modem thru odin, leaving the cwm (or other) recovery.
2. flash the counter reset thru cwm
3. flash the stock recovery thru cwm or use adb commands.
the other possible way to not trip it is:
1. flash the gb rooted system image via odin (doesn't trip counter)
2. flash gb kernel and modem thru cwm
3. unroot
4. flash stock recovery
Does that sound about right?
I tried to root my Samsung Galaxy S2 i777 using Odin with Zedomax's rom and realizing this was from October it is prolly for 2.3.4 which my phone is 2.3.6 so as a result of that, halfway through the process I noticed that the green bar wasn't moving any and froze completely so I received the "firmware upgrade encountered an issue please select recovery mode in kies and try again" message. Now I just need a heading in the right direction of getting my phone back to 2.3.6 I don't care if I lose data or whatever, just need a correct image to allow to even have a working phone again. Yes I've tried the topics
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1313659
and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432
either i've looked over the right rom or it's not there, just head me in the direction of a phone saving rom
I try UCKH7_stock_root image and progress bar gets to about the middle and stops again at the factoryfs.img line and I777UCKH7 OCD With Root.exe and I777UCKH7-CL503881-No-BL.exe dont even recognize my phone
Happy to help if I can.
There are some things I don't understand from your post...
1) Which zedomax download did you flash? Can you give me a full description, or a pointer to the download?
2) You were able to get Odin to recognize your phone to flash "Zedomax's rom" and "UCKH7_stock_root image" but not "I777UCKH7 OCD With Root.exe and I777UCKH7-CL503881-No-BL.exe." The latter two are one-click downloaders which contain Odin within the exe so you don't need to load them into Odin, rather you just execute the file. Is it possible you were using the latter two files incorrectly?
The problem was not that you started on 2.3.6, but rather that the zedomax firmware downloads often cause people problems. I'm not sure exactly what the nature of your problem is, and may not know even when you tell me what zedomax download you used. But in some cases, you may need to flash the complete stock UCKH7 firmware package to recover the phone.
If my assumption in #2 above is correct, then first try the I777UCKH7-CL503881-No-BL.exe again to see if that will clear the problem. Follow these steps: If you can boot into recovery mode, the do so and wipe data/factory reset. You can do this even if it is 3e recovery. Then open the one-click downloader .exe file from your Windows computer and put the phone into download mode, followed by flashing the firmware. If you are unable to get into recovery, but are able to get into download mode, then just attempt to flash from the one-click downloader. If this is successful, I would suggest doing another wipe data/factory reset after.
If the above is still not successful, then you may need to flash the full firmware package. Let me know your results, and ask any questions as you go along. I'll try to keep my eye on this thread more frequently than usual today.
I was able to get into 3e recovery and did a wipe/reset, and instead of a UCKH7 image I used a UCKK6 and it finally completed install and then did a restore and have everything functional again.
Thanks for assistance creepy
UCKK6 is good and all, but if you want to flash to ICS, is best to go back to UCKH7.

care to explain this?
Doesnt matter what your on when flashing something new, as long as a full wipe is performed.
