Adding CWM to a kernel/ recovery file? - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

From a non developer point of view, is it a complicated task?
I have a tablet I'd like to install CWM to, it already has a custom rom, recovery and kernel, didn't know if it was something not too hard to do?

You only need CWM in kernel for Sony devices. Most other devices have a separate recovery partition.

It does have a separate 2gb recovery partition. But can it still have cwm?

Yes.

How? Or is that too complicated? (for me) Lol

You flash recovery.img to recovery partition using fast boot, of course back up the original first

Where do i get the image? And i don't even know how to get my tablet to fastboot? Lol

You need to compile it.

Adding to the ramdisk is pretty easy once you have CMW compiling. ( and you have the devices info )
it is only adding files and editing 1 or 2 of the existing ones.
@ Keirgan i thought the recovery partitions were locked down.
Pvy.

Anyone fancy trying it for me if I send them the recovery file from my tablet? Or is it not that simple? I really have no idea. Lol. I'd just like it.

A Zenithink tablet. ZT282 or zt280 C91 upgrade, it's kinda known by 2 names. but it has custom rom with custom 1.2ghz kernel and a 2GB recovery partition.

No one bored enough in their lives to try this for me? Lol

So do you have CWM at all on that thing? I still have no idea what you want from us.

No it doesn't have cwm, I want cwm on it basically if it's possible to make happen. But no idea what I'm doing to make it happen. Lol

There isn't one yet. This is directly from Koush: "The boot image is not being backed up or restored currently. As far as I can tell, there is no way to flash the boot image, other than through Odin. So without a way for me to flash it, there is no way for me to restore it. So there's no point backing it up, heh."

Samsung setups for Android are quite different from HTC's where you have your boot.img containing the ramdisk and kernel here we have the recovery/kernel in one and a bootloader that no one has been able to access yet. HTC's are much more logical in their setup.
Simple answer is to flash it with odin? until a other way is found?
Sounds simple to me. Ill talk to him.
This was Koush's final response to me regarding this:
"basically you need to build a full kernel and pack an initramfs by using the proprietary binaries that come with the phone. It is possible to reverse engineer and do this. You can port another rom still. You'll just need to work around stuff that you can't do unless you are using a stock boot image."

[ROM] AlmostStock_9.4.2.21 (with motley_tfp_beta_kernel-2.1)

So I got impatient and threw together a little ROM to test out the new "features" of 9.4.2.21
Basically this is just "jermaine151_9.4.2.15.zip" repackaged with "9.4.2.21
" updates and motley kernel, have fun!
NOTE:
If you are coming from "jermaine151_9.4.2.15" you don't need to wipe, just flash right over the old one!
Zip file Split into two files: use 7zip to unzip
AlmostStock_9.4.2.21.zip.001
AlmostStock_9.4.2.21.zip.002
Or Just one file:
AlmostStock_9.4.2.21.zip
I take no credit for anything, all I did was copy and paste!
Just what I wanted thanks bro

I want to try this ROM but I'm running WSG and it's too good to leave. I know the TP had issues with restoring Nandroid backups in the past, but is it ok now if the BU was made with the newest CWM recovery? Can I nandroid and restore without issue so I can try this ROM? I'm very curious.

Thanks man. I've flashed 4 ROMS but never did a restore yet, not on the Prime at least.
I thought the new CWM fixed the issue, but never heard anyone actually claim it worked.
slightly pointless but im soo giddy!!!!! 4.0.4 for my nexus and now .21!?!?!?! i feel like getting a CWM or SU tattoo or SOMETHING, i will update this when i use .21 for a bit but THANKS again!.... also i have never restored a nand either, the best of both worlds i hope, feeling confident with a safety net and having no reason to use it

[RECOVERY] CWM 6 Alpha Touch recovery

Koush is giving the world access to his buildbot to test out the new version of CWM. So I decided to give it a whirl. Offers incremental backups making them much smaller and faster.
This is for ICS ROMS only
*please note that I know that I am NOT a real dev. I just figured out how to run his buildbot and got it working on my phone.
Build Details
Download Recovery
*usual disclaimer that I am not responsible for you bricking your phone*
To install
1. Download file to your computer
2. In command line, navigate to the folder you have the recovery
3. Reboot phone into fastboot
4. "fastboot flash recovery recovery-CWM-6.0.0.0-ruby.img"
5. "fastboot reboot"
6. Reboot Phone into recovery as normal
Anyone test it as yet other than you? Would be cool to see this in action, good post, many of those who wanted CWM will love you for it, lol.
As far as I could tel I was the first to build a ruby version. I just pulled the 5.0.2.8 CWM and used that as a base and had it build a touch version. I tried getting it to use the stock recovery but the only one I could find was from the all-in-one toolkit and it built, but the recovery had trouble mounting points so I didn't upload it here.
I've always been a fan of CWM but that's prolly mostly because that's what I familiar with. I've used it since my G1.
So it can flash kernels???
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using Tapatalk 2
It was built off of 5.0.2.8 so I would have to guess that you would have to be S-OFF to flash kernels. I am S-OFF and am the only one I know of running it.
Why is it only able to flash ics roms?

This is based off of Koush's new 6.0 CWM. It has incremental backups instead of the doing the entire ROM each time. That is the biggest advantage to me.

FINALLY, A FRICKING RECOVERY THAT JUST WORKS.
Jesus, I tried every recovery I could find.
I'm not mentally impaired, so I do understand (and preffer) to use fastboot, and all other recoveries either required a download of an app to do the work for you or they just plain wouldn't boot (I'm looking at you, EXT4 touch binary...)
Plus it's well documented and it's a real developer friendly recovery, not so user oriented. I love it.

or you can just flash the 4EXT recovery image from my toolkit. That is another way. 4EXT wants the app installed so it can tell you about updates and let it update by itself.

Need some root assistance....please

Hello -
I have browsed through countless threads and obviously overlooking something for a successful root.
I was able to root using option #3 in the following thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285894. All went without issue and I see the SuperUser application on the phone.
However, I cannot get into Clockwork. Holding the power buttons and power button only takes me in the typical Android reset menu.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
You don't have rom manager installed hopefully. If not, you simply power your phone off , hold down volume up down and power until it reboots KEEP holding it it may flash the boot logo more than once then it should take you into clock work mod recovery. Also keep in mind you need a custom kernel to have clockwork mod recovery installed, as our kernels have recovery built in.

Thanks for the assistance. No --- I do not have ROM Manager installed. The button sequence only takes me into the typical Android menu that has four options. Going from memory: Reboot, apply update.zip, factory reset, clear cache. It's not the Clockwork menu...I'm familiar with it.
I guess that means that the following link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285894 only roots the phone and I need to apply a custom kernel. If so, do I have to find a custom kernel and apply through ODIN since I cannot flash through Clockwork? If so, can you give me a link on how to do this?
Thanks.

You just installed the stock kernel with stock 3e recovery. You now need to install a custom kernel. Go to this thread, which is the full directions for rooting and installing a ClockworkMod Recovery enabled kernel.
Also since you're rooted, you can flash kernels with mobile Odin if ya want, it's on the Android market. Is free to flash roms gotta pay for it to flash kernels and stuff but it's well worth it in my opinion.
