Presenting bmlunlock. Unlocks bml7 for writing to it via dd.

Nice! Thanks Koush.. it's about time you did some actual work around here..
lol brandon. you know better. he pushed out 2 updates to CWM for us in less than ten minutes last night!
Yeah, I was just kidding. What really makes this useful is this bmunlock and the updated adb access via recovery. Very slick.
BHey would it be possible to use this to flash the kernel of a facinate from a mac? If so could you guys give a quick explanation of how. Us mac users are itching to get ready for roms.
If someone can do the terminal write up for the bmunlock kernel flash on windows we can probably figure out how to do it on our macs..... anyone? Please.
Well first somebody needs to cross-compile that .c source from github for android.
I don't have the tools to do that ATM, but I'll work on that.
From the README on koush's github it looks like you just run the bmunlock executable on the device, which unlocks the partition and then use dd to flash the kernel zImage contained within the tar.zip posted here: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787168
I'll work on this on my Fasc and post clearer instructions if I'm successful.
You rule Koush! Missing your work since i switched from the Droid to Fascinate. Thanks a lot keep it up!
I'm sorry, but what exactly is this?
If you don't know, you don't need it.
It allows devs to flash kernels directly.

Ah. Then I don't need it. I appreciate the work Koush, but I don't know a thing about programming and I'm not a dev.
How do I compile it for the GB kernel? Do I just need to use the cross compiler?
We have an issue with the Pop Plus (GT-S5570I) flashing kernels via zip files. Sometime they do not flash at all. Others they do. It is a real pain in the butt.

I think so. You will need Odin. Find the thread by GizmoDroid called "Erasing the clockworkmod confusion". It's under android development. In that thread you will find "cwm recovery all 3-30-fix. Download it. Have you downloaded your rom of choice yet and put it on your SD card?

If you can't find cwm recovery all 3-30-fix then find the one by times infinity. CWM3 Voodoo.tar and download it.

Yes, flash that with odin and then boot straight into recovery before you boot the phone normally. Let me know if you don't understand, I don't know how new you are to this.
I think I understand.. what the biggest difference so far is using ODIN to flash things.. Eris was much easier.. I'm going to read a bit more here before I ruin my new phone...
Currently I'm fighting a horrible Internet connection so I may be working from my phone a lot.. but I still haven't decided on a ROM... just unsure...

I'm all good now actually!! I dove right in and am installing ROMs ... Only question I have left is that I gained performance from completely formatting my SD card and installing the rom from there.. same here? Or if I format I will lose everything??
I have found that when I am within CWM ... when I mount the USB it comes up as a CD-ROM and does not allow me to copy/paste or format.. is there a fix for this or should I try and start over??

have your tried checking the MD5 or just re-downloading whatever rom you are trying to PUSH? Also check which version of ODIN you have. Like issues with the Charge, Notes seem to have an issue playing with the Odin interface.

2nd. Not sure how much this will help, but try Odin 3.07

not rooted. trying root for the first time on this unit. ill look for an older version thanks for trying to help out:good:
First, I'd say ditch the toolkit and do it manually. At least when it fails, you'll have a better idea of where and what was going on. Where is it failing? Is your device recognized by Odin if you try manually? Have you installed drivers for the phone?

im a bit new to this style of rooting. im used to the .zip stuff. im guessing this new way of doing things is because of the bootloader being on lock down?

I'm not sure who posted that one, but that is correct. Have you checked to see if you have a pre-ota rooted stock rom? I would check the android thread about rooting and using odin to make sure there's been no changes. Odin is usually pretty easy to use (ONCE you get it to recognize the correct drivers.)
It is a new phone so I would guess not but ill look and read more. Thanks a lot

Haha, fair enough. I figure it's always best to start with the easy questions, don't want to replace a motor when all you needed was an oil change, you know?
What recovery are you using? TWRP, or CWM, and have you tried flashing with another recovery other than the one your currently using?
I know it seems dumb, but sometimes some ROMs don't like to play nice with certain recoveries.

If you have MDK build, you're one of the very lucky people who can run arbitrary custom ROMs and don't need to use Safestrap. Please avoid upgrading beyond that as it will limit what you can do.
