Hello
I just purchased the AT&T Galaxy S2. Got it home and rooted already. All works well so far with no issues. However I do notice on my boot screen, the usual boot logo but on the bottom of the display is a yellow Explanation Point. Is this normal? It still boots up fine and operates as it should. I was just wondering what the yellow explanation point means.
Thank You
If you want the exclamation triangle to go away, flash back to stock kernel. Your using the insecure kernel that was needed to root.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
You can get that to go away if you use Entropy's method to restore back to stock which will also root the phone in the process. Be aware though if you do anything like install CWM, you'll get that exclamation point back. It's basically a visual indicator that the phone has been modified... but that's all it is. If you can simply ignore it, you're fine.
Oh Ok Thank You. Guess its a easy indication for any AT&T reps to do a quick check as to check to see if the phone has been hacked or not.
Can you tell me if the bootloader has been unlocked as well with this root method?
To be honest, the AT&T reps (if knowledgable) really don't care about rooting and custom roms. When I picked up my phone I spend a good 10 minutes talking with two of the guys about rooting the phones, cyanogen 7, and how to tether without AT&T noticing. Another rep came over during the conversation and the only thing he said was "root that thing the first chance you have".
How do you get stock rom back. I've only had iPhones and learned everything about jail breaking them, decided to give up iPhone and get gs2. I really want this yellow triangle to go away.

5 minutes of reading the dev forum and you'd have your answer. The dev forum is still only one page!
Plug in a jig from powered off state and it will clear flash counter and remove the triangle even if you are still on a custom kernel

It was never locked in the first place.
The closest thing we have to a locked bootloader is the triangle warning/flash counter. But that's pretty benign.
(Exception: The bootloader of newer Samsungs will only accept signed binaries when trying to overwrite the bootloader it seems. But there is no valid reason to be flashing bootloaders right now, and rarely ever is.)

Many of you are such asses. I've read comments on these forums where people have asked questions and many of you are ruDr and smart asses. you all love the Android platform and it would seem to me that you all would be excited to help and assist someone new. If for no other reason to get more people to see and understand just how awesome the platform is. Instead many of you are only interested in showing how smart you and dumb you can make others seem. The iPhone community was so different from this group of arrogant jerks. I say that about most not all.

calm down - no one is being a "jerk" or "smart ass."
you obviously didn't search for the answer to your question before you asked it - that's all that people are asking you to do.
if everyone were to post a new thread for every question that they have, then the forums will become cluttered with repetitive threads.
all Entropy512 was saying was that this device is so new, that the forums are still very small (the answer to your question constantly remains in the top 5 or so threads in the dev section) - so searching for your solution should be pretty easy at this point.
people are always happy to help, but if it is obvious that you didn't search the forums before asking your question (most of the time, a simple google search is sufficient), you can definitely expect people to tell you to search before posting.
SGS2 i777 showing i9100 on boot screen?!?
I've had my SGS2 (I777) for a week now, it is rooted, when it boots, the splash screen not only contains the yield sign, but it says Galaxy S2 then lists the i9100 model... is this normal or was something done incorrectly in rooting...
I used the exact directions from the sticky root post of using Odin and CWM... i found this very odd, i haven't really had many issues other than people complaining about my voice during calls... i need to figure out how to fix that part especially...

yeah. searching. its only in the rules that you agree to when you register on the forums. there is a video to watch explaining it, and its littered throughout the forums that you should SEARCH before posting a question or whatever random thought pops into your brain.
is it so wrong to assume that when you agree to the forum rules, that you would, i dont know, actually follow some of them?

Since the recent topic of conversation is people who don't read or search the forum threads before posting, I find it amusing how this post is right in the middle of said conversation. How many times are people going to ask the exact same question? You can find the answer (being asked by another random person) on pretty much every page of every thread on this sub-forum.
I wasn't asking about the yellow yield sign. I was asking about why it would say i9100. I've literally searched a week and seen nothing mentioning that it is normal to say i9100 when the phone is actually a i777.

Because Samsung didn't bother to change the logo that is displayed when in warning mode.
I bought USB jig on Ebay for $3, removed the yellow triangle and the reference to I9100

To Coreym and others who thought this thread should be closed due to the "have been covered in Sticky" and Mod Red.
Firstly, I personally do not think this question has been covered in Sticky.
The OP asking about how to install CwM Recovery onto his phone retaining stock kernels, NOT custom kernel. Yes, I did ask the question and creepy has provided answer b4. Yes, ramos did ask the same question and got the answer, I'm sure there were one or two more in the room. Yes, it has been answered but NOT covered in the Sticky.
Secondly, I don't believe the OP should get any flame because he did do the search and did his homework, he just ran into some errors, that's why he asked for help. This is way different than others who not even do homework, haven't even tried on their system, but just asked for direction.
I believe in this case, the OP did do his best and asked for help, that's why I provided a suggestion to him, rather than flame.

I hope the OP or you don't take it that way.
Also maybe I read it wrong but it looks like he's trying to install CWM using codeworkx kernel.. which is a custom kernel, not stock. Even the instructions in the link he provided go back to installing a custom kernel.
Okay I just went back and don't see ANYWHERE where the OP is trying to install CWM while retaining stock kernel.. I guess I must be blind

I'm at my wits end. I've been using this method: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_II_(AT&T):_Full_Update_Guide
I can not get recovery to work. The menu displays and when I pick a item from the menu I just get the top-hat screen and nothing. It can't find the sig.
I have searched this forum extensively..but I haven't found the answer.
I've put CM on my N1, Att Inspire and my short lived Skyrocket without any problems. But this time I am stumped, I can't get recovery to work.
I rooted the SGII using the Odin One Click..worked great.
And yes, I've checked: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1511838

I think thats in the binary yellow triangle thread or the other CWM thread... both linked from the sticky.
Red5 whats the deal with this thread? I was under the impression that this was already covered. After getting my post quoted and being told that the OP was trying to install CWM with his existing kernel, I went back and read the OP and followed his link. It seems to me that he is just trying to install CWM like we all have, using codeworkx kernel and not his existing kernel.
If that is the case, I guess I don't know why this thread hasn't been closed. Seems a little confusing to me (and probably others) as to what threads are allowed to stay and which ones aren't ... if we are talking about multiple threads with the same topic (installing CWM)..?
Not questioning your authority, just would like a little clarification.

Well, there was a decent conversation going on, until someone had to crap on it. Threads that just ask "how to install this?"are shut down because 99% is covered in the stickys or are linked in the stickys.
This thread had a decent conversation and I was waiting to make sure the user got the info he needed and was successful. Its called helping out. Once that takes place, the thread can be closed because there is no longer any need for any more discussion.
Its not beneficial to just automatically close every thread that pops up in the General or Q&A section. Even Devs started out as noobs at one point, so we need to be somewhat courteous in the offchance that the next noob might turn out to be a great dev in the future. The OP didnt seem like your ordinary noob that just wanted to be spoonfed, so I gave him the benefit of a doubt and left this open.

There was no sarcasm, that was the reason why. I gave you an honest answer. I dont think every thread should be closed and as I said, this thread had a decent conversation in it. With that, I took a look at the sticky and realized that I can modify it to better point out the issue that the OP had. Had I just closed the thread I never would have stumbled onto that.
Again, there was no sarcasm in my comment. I just wanted to help out a newer member and left this open for him.
lol.. you can honestly say that you weren't being sarcastic when you told me "its called helping out"
..normally anytime you put "it's called.." in front of ANYTHING other than a question asking what something is, it's being sarcastic.. just sayin.

Sorry for not explaining it better (being the OP). It sounded very clear inside my head when typing.......and that is a problem I know!
When trying to download some apps in the Market (Crackle TV app for example) I get the error "this app is not compatible with your phone". There was a "trick" posted awhile back that by changing something in the build prop using a text editor that would make the market think I had a newer modeled phone and thus could get the apps to download.
I had run for months with the market thinking I had a Nexus I believe (again, sorry I can't remember what I had changed it to) for a long time with no issues, but these latest builds of ICS just aren't playing nice with the Play Store.
I truly thought it was a common thing people were doing with the fascinate in order to have full access to the market/play store. Thus, I just condensed my question thinking it was going to get multiple hits and a quick answer. My mistake there again.

Section 1: How to Root/ Return to Stock 4.1.1 Jelly Bean coming from any rom with Odin
--------------------
Section 1b: How to return to stock 4.1.1 Jelly Bean coming from any rom with Odin
Step 1: Download and install Odin3 from section 1a if you have not already done so.
Step 2: Download this stock VRALJB image and pit file to a windows based pc.
Folks that have accepted the L4 OTA can not use the VRALJB image at this time...for now use Root66 from section 1a.
Official VRALJB 4.1.1 12/9/12- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2040264(This will wipe data and return your device to factory stock like the day you purchased the device. Also Unlocked and Locked devices may use this to return to Factory Stock conditions!)

Step 3: Power device off, hold the volume down/home/power keys until you see a yellow triangle, then press the volume up key to access "odin or download mode".
Step 4: Open Odin and connect the oem usb cable from pc to device. The driver should automatically install( it did for me on windows 7 64bit). There should also be a "comport number" in upper left hand corner of Odin indicating communication between the pc & device.
Step 5: Click on the pit function of Odin and select the sch-i605-16gb.pit file.
Step 6: Click on the PDA function of Odin. Select the stock VRALJB image you downloaded in step 1, then select start. This operation should take less than 8 minutes before Odin will say pass/reset.
Step 7: Your device should boot back up into factory stock 4.1.1 android!

Lol. Odin back to stock. Looks like you should try to understand what retarded clutter outdated garbage nerdspeak babble you're doing to your phone before you go ahead and do it. Have fun with Verizon tomorrow, I'm sure they'll be thrilled to accommodate you.

That is a good place for someone to place an order for spoon fed customer support.
I have already provided a solution found in his devices forum.
As there has been no update on progress I figured the issue was resolved.

Judging from the original post, I think you used too many 10 dollar words. Lol
thanks for the help ya A-holes lol greatly appreciated
UPDATE: first: sorry about the A-holeness, lol i had dealt with verizon on the phone for WAY TOO LONG! and you know how that feels
:beating-head-against-the-wall
and for the life of me could not find a solution to fix the issue
Second, i was able to return to "normal" status, apparently the google wallet hack was the problem, but still had no 4G, they replaced the simcard which fixed it and also somehow changed the status back to "modified" ??? then an hour later the phone went into a boot loop vzw said they would send me a "certified like -new" phone, still not sure if i should just accept the "like-new" or keep my original (now working because i flashed it back to stock with some guide that some A-Hole posted )
flash back to stock and forget this website ever existed. you're only going to hurt yourself further if you keep trying.
Wow this is the garbage replies I was referring too. You obviously cant read.i did flash back to stock and why would I forget this site. Ive been here wayy longer than you. And why dont you keep your useless comments to your self. Why would you run your d-sucker to provoke someone. I posted my apology but not to you.

He probably read your first post and quit reading since you were an @ss, that's why I and most others here didn't help you. If you would have just asked instead of insulting everyone here you would have got a link to a back to stock thread, and if you had anymore specific questions you would have been helped. Judging by this response you weren't just annoyed at the time, your just an @ss who has no idea what he's doing, and Iphone would be perfect for you, it's idiot proof.

Glad you recovered your phone.
If it was me I would keep the one you know works. Let Verizon send the second hand phone to someone else.
Just remember that opinions are like a§§holes, everyone has both.

Google wallet hack has nothing to do with triangle notification and 4G signal being dropped. You probably rooted wrong. If I were you, I'll just keep my original note2 and figure out to clear the mess. There is always solution to this and every methods are currently workable.
Ahaha now he's threatening me over pm's. This is wonderful. Listen champ, dickhead posts are going to get dickhead replies. Absolutely nobody, here or anywhere else in the world, is going to pander a friendly response after you insult them while begging favors. Learn this now while you still can, you're going to have a very unhappy life if you can't learn how to cooperate.

Anyway to reinstall the android operating system on Verizon note 2?
Was listening to YouTube vid on how to clean install a custom Rom abs it was suggested to wipe system. ... like a dumba__I wiped. ..I have no backup
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
You're gonna have to do a stock Odin.
After staring at phone and telling it I was sorry. ..I called Verizon and ordered a new one (lucky I had an upgrade)...I would go out and drink heavily but now I'm broke. .

Next time just read up on things before you start to do ANYTHING with your phone.. there are many many many threads here that will give you precise information and some of its even dumbed down to where a 4th grader could root and install custom roms.
Well u live and learn I guess
Somebody give em a face palm or something he definitely deserves it

Why didn't you do your research and flash back to stock with Odin......?
Or flash a ROM. If you had the ability to wipe the system, you must have had a custom recovery already.

I work 12,14 even 16 hour nights and I have done this before. As far as "doing my research" for me that would include asking questions on here..and you see the responses...It was a simple question (and yes I know no one owes me anything)I get responses ranging from "Send me your broken Note..To give him a face palm" .Didn't this forum start out as a developers forum only and expand to let everyone else in? A lot of you are geniuses on this forum but can't seem to dig the wild hair out.

Honestly, you would have received better input if you put the question in the Q&A section. People bash each other for posting in the wrong sections. I must say, I think you jumped the gun a little by ordering a new device. You didn't even wait 24 hours. When I had my S3, I accidentally formatted the wrong partition while trying to get data back after compiling MIUI based off another phone, it took 3 days to figure out how to get it back (Thanks garwynn and crew). A simple google search for "How to install stock rom on Verizon note 2" returned this on the first page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024207. The stickies in development are one of the first places you should look for anything rom related.

Thank you.I didn't even know about the Q&A section and to be honest I panicked.I was rooted and had TWRP recovery but now every time I try to put the phone into recovery all I get is a message about unauthorized software being installed on my device

You would have to use odin to restore the factory image if that's the case.
Alright clowns. I had him send his phone to me. He had a hard brink phone. All fixed and sending it back tomorrow. All the rude comments that you guys dropped was unnecessary. This tread is getting locked down now. Problem fixed..
Just a DAM android phone. have a good day.
