I know that the LG2 update gets rid of a feature that I am sure most of us would like to keep. I had heard you can get the APK for the universal search, but that it gets overwritten every time you reboot and you lose it again. Any chance we can see a fix that will keep it installed even between boots. I want to flash LG2 just in case there are some security fixes, but I don't want to lose universal search either. Also I don't want any custom ROM's till bugs get worked out. So any solution would be nice to be able to be used on stock rooted also.
Any thoughts or suggestions? I am using a SPH-L710 Sprint S3.

Ok, so apparently you cant just click reject on the verizon update and expect it to never come again. Every single day, sometimes twice per day they try and push their stupid update to my phone. Is there anyway to permanently disable OS updates? Getting tired of this.
If you are rooted use root explorer or super manager and set system to R/W. Then navigate to /system/etc/security. Find the file named otacerts.zip and rename it to otacerts.zip.bak and reboot. Should fix you up.

Sorry to bump an old post, but FYI this worked. For anyone who might be wanting to do the same without adding custom roms. Root process took a little while but EasyRoot eventually nailed it.
Actually, this did NOT work. Verizon is still trying to update my phone! And I hear doing an OTA update after root can seriously mess stuff up. I renamed the file, rebooted, twice even, and I still catch my phone auto-downloading this goddamn update without even asking for permission anymore!!!!!
Do I have to just flash a new rom or something to finally get rid of this trash? I really like the stock rom without the bloat. I de-bloated it myself since all of the debloat links for other roms are dead and the authors refuse to allow mirroring so they can make money on their links. :thumbsup:
Yea, just have to bite the bullet and flash a new rom. I had the same issue with my Galaxy Tab when I went back to stock, except it wouldn't apply the update, just reboot and pester me again. Of course you know the benefits and pitfalls of rooting, might i suggest trying a clean 2.3 rom with Sense 3.0? You will practically have a new device.
Also, of you never had a Vanilla device try pur3a05p. They have a great offering.

I have a rooted Thunderbolt and I have been able to reject the update from Verizon until this afternoon when my phone started to update on its own. The update didn't go through and I got an error icon. Now my phone just goes through the same cycle of turning it self off and trying to update and crashing.
I am able to get to the Clockwork Mod recovery page but the only option that works is the 'reboot system now', which starts the phone and the whole cycle of trying to update is started.
Does anyone have an idea of how to get my phone working again?

I'm really sorry to hear that happened, I'm not sure what you can do. Hopefully someone will be able to help you out. But at least I can tell you that you are not alone! I wasn't rooted, but my phone did autoupdate on its own at about 2:30pm today.

Pull your SDcard, wipe the pg05img.zip file, and try again. You might have to reflash clockwork.
This is the problem with running rooted stock ROMs. I know flashing a new ROM isn't what a noob wants to do, but it will avoid these very confusing headaches.
whats if you rooted using revolutionary? As far as i know there wont be that pg05img.zip file to delete.
Would you always be in danger is this if you are rooted and stay stock?

Nope. One only has to keep up with the current releases, rooted versions of which come out within days of official release.
Are you sure it is the Verizon update?
I have the same behavior on my T-bolt since about 10 pst today. However, just before the phone shuts down to reboot, I see a note about a new version of Clockworkmod Recovery 4.0.1.5.
So I have been working on the assumption that it is CWM Recovery that is doing an automatic update.
I also am running rooted stock, and have not updated to latest release.
OK, it isn't the update to CWM Recovery that is the problem; it is the Verizon OTA update, which they have figured out how to force on us. I fixed my phone using the solution given by Mike later in this thread.

This, plus "root while you can" - there's no guarantee that rooting will be possible with each subsequent (unrooted) release, but you can root now and stay rooted to keep your options open. Also, getting full backups of everything is easier when rooted.

Mike, did you try what loonatik suggested? Did it work? Waiting breathlessly...
Unless I am misunderstanding the problem wiping cache from Clockwork recovery should clear out the update and it will quit trying to install it. For the future if you go to settings in the about phone or software update section (dont remeber which) there is an option to de-select scheduled update checks.

I want to go buy the S4 and I will definitely root it (following the posted instructions on here) but before i do, will i be able to instal OTA updates after and if not, is there another way id be able to install updates? I used Voodoo rootkeeper on my tablet after rooting and the 1st ota went fine and kept root, the 2nd ota killed the root even while using Voodoo...
Please, any any all responses asap appreciated. I want to get the phone asap as i am tired of my rooted Bionic.

Just wait for a rooted stock ROM based on the OTA to be made by a dev. You never NEED to take an OTA.
Thanks but im not sure what you mean. I have no interest in loading custom roms nor over-screwing around with the phone. Do you mean wait for another root process or wait for a download for an ota update?

Im guessing you mean a rom will be released again after the ota is out with the ota integrated in it... That process makes me kind of nervous as i need my phone for work as well as personal and cant risk screwing up the phone or erasing data eta...
There is pretty much always someone that releases the stock ROM flashable in a custom recovery so you can have a rooted stock ROM. Look at the dev beanstownm106 ROM in the development section. It is basically the stock ROM rooted with some very minor tweaks, but flashable with a custom recovery like TWRP.
BUT...there is almost never anything you can't do with basically any ROM that you can do with the stock ROM. So you really don't need the stock ROM...some people just prefer it. For my old Thunderbolt, it was pretty well known that for a long time there was a custom ROM, very similar to the stock ROM, that was more stable than stock (SkyRaider Zeus).
Another BUT: if you need Good for work, prepare for a constant fight with root detection. And you will want to back up your data often. I have a BB for work that I leave untouched (its not mine).
One more thing...the Loki workaround has its advantages...the bootloader is still locked and untouched, so it would be pretty hard to brick the device because you can get back into download mode and use odin to flash back to factory.
Whats the loki workaround? Also, im dont want to be doing any kind of flashing... I just simply want to root the s4 (which i now have) and be able to run ota updates or if not, download the ota and install the update manually. And if i get an ota, if it will kill root, even if i run voodoo.
Please, if someone could, let us all know if ota wont run or will kill root on say the s3 or s4 and if downloadable updates are another option... without flashing anything or going to crazy.

Edit: Sorry no screen shot. I didn't think to grab one. Just look at the date of this post. Are you seeing similar behavior? I just don't want to blindly let something install without knowing what is going on. I also don't want to Bork something by letting the phone do stuff automatically. It could "fix" something I don't want to be fixed and block something I don't want blocked. Knowing Samsung, it would fix something that cannot be rolled back once applied.
Edit 2: Just did a twrp nandroid backup, just in case. I don't know if the update does anything to hardware yet, but I have the software side backed up.

What rom are you running? What baseband? Yesterday just for kicks, I unrooted my note 3 and went to Samsung firmware got a copy of NC5, which was dated 3/31/2014. After install, I tried to get firmware updates. it came back device was up to date. Have not heard of any OTA's. Try and get a screenshot.
It's a security certificate update I believe. I accepted it and my phone is fine

Don't know what its for, it appears to be a security certificate update. I also excepted the update, it didn't have any adverse effect on my note 3. Still rooted, working great !!!
I'm looking for some help/advice. I did search and didn't find anything on this although I would think it would have been covered before so my apologies if I missed it and it's already been answered.
I'm currently running Stang5Litre 5.0 OC1 V2 which I installed with Flashfire and I'm having a lot of issues with Good For Enterprise and it's root check. I can get it to work with Xposed as long as I stay on an old version of Good, but I've had two accidental upgrades that triggered a compliance failure and it's a long process with my work to get a new pin to get it going again. Using the detach from market in Titanium doesn't stick. I'm also interested in using Android Pay and can't get that to work at all. So I'm now considering getting rid of root. There isn't that much I do anymore that truly requires a rooted phone other than I really like being able to get rid of all the bloat and being able to freeze and unfreeze in Titanimum.
So my question is what options do I have? Can i fully unroot a debloated ROM or would I need to flash a stock unrooted OC1 ROM? Also, is the fact that my Samsung boot screen shows as unlocked an issue? I know that simply removing SuperSU isn't enough. I don't want to do anything that is going to prevent me from changing my mind down the road and going back to a rooted ROM which I know means not installing anything after OC1.
Any help would be appreciated.

After doing a little more research on Good, I think I have no choice but to flash a completely stock unrooted ROM. Apparently it checks too many things to simply remove Root. So what are my options for going back to stock and still keeping the ability to root down the road if I choose?
