I got the ASUS Prime just 2 days back. I want to try root and some custom ROMs. Once I try for few days I may just return it. Is it possible to root and install custom ROMs and if want to come back to factory state, it can be done easily?
Can you guys share some guide/Url for this?
No.

to put it a little more eloquently, please do your reading. other users here on xda are sick of answering the same questions over and over.
to actually answer your question, no. you can root and revert back to factory condition and return it then.
to load custom roms and try dif things like that, you need to ulock the bootloader. doing so voids your warranty and you won't be able to return it after doing so.
as nhshah7 just said, you can root and revert back to factory, but if you unlock you won't be able to return it back because you will break warranty agreement, so you will have to keep it at the end.

Do i lose my guarantee if i install custom ROM or downgrade? Cus i have 2 years guarantee
I don't know the answer of your question
But I think the answer is no
Of course you will. But only if they find out, there are reports that some people could use guarantee even if they have rooted phone and custom rom. But, manual says that you will lose it.
I was slightly confused by your question... then it struck me that you meant warranty XD
Tasssadar is right, it's only when they find out that you will lose it. There are many methods to revert it back to stock, so there isn't much risk in performing custom recovery.
Hello,
I restore my original rom and I have only to remove the custom recovery menu to return my phone in original state. I want to return in original state because I need of waranty service. So can someone help to remove custom recovery menu? I think that my USB port on phone is brick and I have problem with display.
Hi everyone,
I know it's a common question but I can't seem to find a straight answer anywhere, so here it goes >.<
I'm thinking of buying the SGS2. The hardware is really marvellous, unfortunately when I used one before, I thought the software bundled goes a long way to spoiling it.
Now I understand the only way to get rid of the bundled apps is to root, but rooting also voids the warranty, and runs up a counter, which can be reset but that reset runs up another hidden counter
Having dealt with Samsung before, their quality control seems to be lacking at best, so I would really want to keep the warranty intact as best as I can.
My question is this, does rooting just to remove apps completely void the warranty? Are there any reports of Samsung doing repairs on rooted devices?
And if not, if there any other way of at least masking or hiding the bloatware without voiding the warranty?
I'm going to be stuck with this device for 2 years if I get it, I dont want to lose the warranty just to get rid of some unnecesarry crap apps.
Thanks all, sorry for the newby thread, but I wanted a straight answer, and might be nice for other newbies coming over

but that reset runs up another hidden counter WE are not 100% sure on that .

samfirmware.com has the letter from Samsung rooted phones void warranty .
Suggestion is to have a copy of original firmware see dev section
Flash that back. to wipe root and return to out of the box state then remove apps that require root + recovery jig to reset counter .

hi everyone,
Like you guys probably noticed I´m a new member here at xda.
I just got my new phone, it´s a Galaxy gio .
So anyway, i´d like to root, flash a kernel and put a custom rom on the phone,
but my concern here is, what happens if I have to send it back to the store, will they take it back and accept my warranty if they found out i have been tampering with the software?
SO I´ve figured this out:
Action >> Go back to stock
root >> unroot available
flash custom kernel >> ???
flash custom rom >> flash stock firmware ???
I probably will not use a custom recovery since i found out it´s actually very hard to go back to stock.
So my main question is,
Will flashing stock firmware give me an stock rom, and will this also give me an stock kernel?
if not, what actions should I take if I want to have my stock kernel?
and, did anyone send their phone back to the store with something custom on it, did it void your warranty?
thanks anyway,
the gentleman.
i´ve read a bit about the subject and found out that if i flash the stock firmware this will mean both the rom and the kernel will be stock again.
Is this right?

Yes, flashing your stock rom will return your device to stock (including the kernel). If you root your device, then your warranty is voided (but they don't have to know ). If you are returning it under warranty, make sure your device is back to stock or impossible to turn on (drown it ).
Bump..
Hey guys I need to find out how to get my coby kyros 7022 back to stock. I know how to get superuser gone but i cannt get the stock recovery to flash. i have the dumped stock recovery, but I dont have a clue as to how to install it. any tips?

Another good way is get an aftermarket charger, cut the end off, expose the wires and stick them into your charging port. Easy way to fry the motherboard!
This is my first android phone, so this is probably a really dumb question...
But from my over 6 years of experience with customizing smartphones (they where still called PDAs or Pocket-PCs back than hehe) I learned one important rule: Always back up everything you need to get it back to stock settings, in case you ever need to RMA it.
I just spend a full evening on research, but it seems like its really not possible to backup the system without voiding the warranty aka rooting the phone. Is that right? Since I have a very peculiar item to start with, a Huawei u8160 aka Vodafone 858 smart with a Swisscom branded Rom, its impossible to find that particular rom on the net. I guess I can always go with a Vodafone stock rom and return it directly to Huawei instead of Swisscom, but than again: will those roms be unrooted? If so, how did anyone acquire them?
Once I am sure I have no chance anyway, I can go on rooting the phone with a clear conscience. But if there is a chance to get that stock rom saved first, I would be a little more relaxed with future customization.
Thanks for any advice you can give.
The only way to backup your System is a custom-recovery. I'm sure, you will find it here on XDA.
This might help you get in the right direction

OK, I will try to place the CWM recovery.img on the phone via fastboot.exe as described here.
Hope this works out In either case: Thank you for the hints!
Worked. I guess this didn't fullfill the whole idea of backing up everything before editing anything, since I have overwritten the stock-recovery. But whatever. Phone is rooted now and I am ready to dive in.
Cheers
Ok my friend had rooted my Asus Transformer Prime TF201 and now have something called CyanogenMod9 on it. Well I don't like it rooted and wanted it off and back to stock. But when I tried unrooting it, nothing happen. I can't find my back ups files. I believe I try almost every method of unrooting it but no luck. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or what but please help Can anyone suggest any ideas, I just want my Transformer Primer TF201 back to stock and the stock apps as if it was taken brand new out of the box. Please help and thank you.
If you upgrade to craiggomez jb. But why. I lost root and i cant stand it. I would honestly just leave. Obviously you dont know what root can do for you and what it is. Keep inmind if you do this you will lose root and also lose you custom recovery. You cant even except updates on jb from asus or you will brick your device, Just go to another rom and dont use rooted apps. If you continue on and unroot you are pretty stupid. Please dont do it you will regret it in the end

There are two different concepts to be aware of: 1) rooting and 2) unlocking
Rooting: Rooting is basically just taking admin access to the ROM to allow you to do things like uninstall or freeze apps that were built into the ROM that you don't want, or make other changes that the system will not normally let you do. If you are rooted, and on the stock ROM it is possible to go back to an un-rooted state.
Unlocking: Unlocking is basically taking control over the boot loader to allow you to install custom ROM's i.e. ROM's (complete operating systems) that didn't come from Asus. Once you are unlocked, there is no way back to a locked state.
Cyanogen Mod 9 is a custom ROM. That means you must be unlocked and there is no way to re-lock the device. However it does mean that if you don't like Cyanogen Mod 9, you can try one of many other custom ROM's. Read about them in the developer's section.
