Samsung Galaxy I9300 unrooted, stock firmware
Update through OTA to I9300XXBLFB, couldn't make or receive calls anymore so did it again with KIES but it stays the same. No difference after factory reset.
In the video I dial 6000 which is my providers service number.
Both phone's loudspeaker as earspeaker work, tested it with test menu.
Phone dials, makes connection to the other side but there is no communication. Phone ends up resetting his cellular connection. My SIM card works perfect in another phone. I can send SMS and mobile data also works.

the number 6000 should give reply. It also happens to normal numbers.

How can I see what modem I use?
Is it baseband version I9300XXLFB
Or build numder IMM76D.I9300XXBLFB
Or CSC I9300PHNBLF1
Added another video to verify
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fo46OXWEcX0
That should not happen with stock upgrades, however it's a known issue if the modem is from a different revision than the ROM.
If you were rooted, I'd recommend trying modem DXLF3 which others have reported fixed their issue, but seening that you potentially want to remain on stock; bring it to your provider/seller. Something probably went wrong during the upgrade.

Same thing happened to me. A simple battery pull fixed the issue. Can't say it will work for you but it's worth a shot.

I did already several battery pulls, no succes.
I have only made 1 successful call with the new update, so it can come through. But I don't succeed in doing it again.
Also the damn app restore in KIES doesn't work, as all my accounts, wireless passwd etc. What good is a backup if it takes longer to figure out what it missed than just do it all manually. urgh I miss nandroid on my HTC
Flashed the old firmware back with odin... no change...
DXLF3 modem also did not fix it.

So I did. Samsung's service center could not make it work either. They had to send it directly to Samsung, increase the waiting time with 3 weeks.... argh.
It was an hardware error. They replaced some parts and it is all new again.

Unfortunately it's a motherboard problem and requires motherboard replacement by Samsung. I had to send it back to the company who sold it to me in Germany, and they were able to take it to a Samsung repair center and ship it back. It cost me $73 to ship it from here in NYC and about 2 or 3 weeks total to send it and get it back (it got to Germany in 3 days). The company was nice and overnighted the phone to me as soon as they got it back from Samsung. Everything is working now.
Related
Its been working fine without any problem, then earlier on today I tried to make a call but it said 'not registered on network.' Even though network signal was full. I restarted phone but that didn't help. So I used whatsapp as network data was working to ask a few pple who I had texted earlier to ask if they have received my messages and all of them replied no. So I went into settings and mobile networks to manually set network but got a response saying 'unable to connect. Try later'
So I thought Vodafone was down, food a search on internet and twitter and found nothing. Tried Sim in another phone and it worked as I received texts straight away, also could make calls and send texts. Put it back in s2 and it wouldn't. I have tried a few other Sims but got the same response, data works but nothing else. It also keeps coming up with a message saying 'refreshing sim data'
I've only had stock roms on my phone and never rooted it. Only flashed stock lpd a while back and just now flashed stock lpf with full wipe, factory reset and deleted cache but that's not solved the issue either.
Has anyone else experienced this? The phone Is still under warranty as I've only had it since November, bought it Sim free. Would flashing stock roms through Odin voided my warranty?

How can that be? I bought phone new & sealed. I've never gave my imei number to anyone. Plus If it had been reported stolen/missing then it gets totally blocked, but the data network is working, I'm able to go on internet, Facebook, what's app, etc through mobile network data.

If you have never tampered with it like rooting etc take it to get looked at by Samsung or the purchase point.

Remove Sim, do a factory reset using dial code, after finishing the setup, shut down insert Sim and see if it works

Not true, my friend bought a sgs2 off an auction website & it worked fine for 2 days. Then it showed as being 'not registered on network' & he could not make calls or send sms but still had a data connection
Sure enough, after speaking to the network, the phone had been reported stolen & the imei blocked. Best to take it back to where you got it from.

I have not moved or changed locations or anything but after updating the newest samsung firmware (on friday) my phone is now 100% of the time roaming. I've checked the network settings and it says Tmobile in there as it should (i'm on Tmobile in america with the i9300).
Is there something i did wrong? I updated it with Kies, what can i do to downgrade back to the old firmware if i get tired of this roaming business?

I am not sure, but its funny my friend has the BLUE i9300 bought 3 weeks after mine, and he was not getting a notification of the update via kies either, but it did give it to me and my phone the exact day it was out (uk firmware).
about changing the modem, will I need to root for that? i prefer to run stock for now..
that's bizarre but it probably has something to do with the phone being an internation model with a uk csc, but i've used my S1 from the uk several times in the u.s. with t-mobile and never had that problem .....can only assume it is a bug

Yea becuase when the phone arrived it worked great (even had a minor firmware upgrade the day i opened which was like june 15th ish or a few days later) and still worked great, no Roaming at all, then with last weeks update now it roams
It's worth pointing out that changing the modem will not work as a valid solution in this case. If one uses a non-LFB modem with the LFB ROM, the mic doesn't get used. One would have to also go to an older rom in addition to a different modem.
I'm having the same exact issue.
Need a solution.
Tried a factory reset. No dice.
Hi guys,
Didn`t find answer for my questions, so decided to link myself to similar topic.
Since the SW update I have done today my phone doesn`t lock to a network
When I go to settings to find a carrier manually, It takes about 2 minutes to find 4-5 networks available around, I am picking o2 UK (as I have a contract with them) and it says : Registering to o2 UK which takes about 4 minutes. After this it says : Emergency calls only and there is no status bars at all.
Master reset didn`t help.
What steps should I take ?
For you reference :
- Phone took from CPW in UK as sim free
- SIM Card used is from o2 UK (contract)
- I don`t want to flash anything, I would like to stay to stock ROM (if possible)
UPDATE : Chosen `Select Automaticly` allowed the phone to find signal, could make a call etc, but after 30 minutes lost signal again....

I did find out that the CSC that was applied by default was KOR. I went in and changed this to BTU using *#272*imei#, but still did not solve the issue.
Wondering if a repartition would help?

If u do not wish to root then your only option is to take it back to the store, so they can fix, u bought the best smart phone available on the market and u can't make phone calls or browse internet(without wifi).
To my understanding, still no resolution on this..
My friends phone after being updated (he just got his first update after having the phone a month) is now roaming as well.. So this is definately something either with our network (t-mobile) or the recent updates.
I've just started living with it, but it sucks becuase it does silly things like makes me click 'download image' when someone sends me a picture message in text...
with the few bugs could be ironed out of this phone kinda frustrating.
I do have similar problems since I installed an update 2 weeks ago. at home the phone says it is roaming at work approx 6 miles away and with a different station I am connecting to it is fine.

Thats interesting, no matter where I go i get roaming. Though a few times I have gotten the 'roaming' warning popped up, so maybe i went out of roaming and didnt know it? I'll keep a closer eye on it.
It is very frustrating and annoying. I've called T-Mobile and they said they would open a case with Samsung. If you guys could call too, we might get a fix.
I really suspect it is something in the CSC. Maybe if we could get the T Mobile SIII CSC and apply it?

My suspicion is wrong. I pulled the TMB CSC from a T999 ROM and manually copied it to /system/csc/TMB, then used the CSC Selector App to change to TMB.
No dice. Still in Roaming.
Hello all,
To put my issue simply, I am receiving the "Not registered on network" error on my phone. I have tried many things to resolve it and to help narrow down the possible problems, I will explain my situation and what steps I have taken to try to resolve it. I appreciate you taking the time to read my detailed explanation in advance, as I wish to be as clear and informative as possible.
My phone is an unlocked Australian Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300). I bought it about 6 months ago and about two months ago had some issues with the display come out of the blue. I was able to get this issue resolved through my warranty. When I received the phone back though, I thought it was all working fine but then I noticed I couldn't send SMSs or make calls as my phone wouldn't connect to my phone network (Vodafone). I tried reboots, hard reboots, restoring backups, using a different SIM card (from a different carrier) and I still couldn't get it to work.
During this process of trying to fix it myself, I rooted the phone. So when I realised I couldn't fix it and it could possibly be a hardware issue, I sent it back to be fixed under warranty. Unfortunately my warranty was voided when I rooted the phone, even though it was broken before I rooted it.
So a few days ago I received my phone back again and spent about 6 hours trying to fix it. Here's what I tried...
I tried to flash the latest Australian firmware (XSA) which is the same as the one I initially had when I purchased the phone. I tried factory resets, different firmware flashes, custom ROMs, different modems etc. None of this worked. I thought I had found my solution when I stumbled across ARIZA's patch, but event this did not solve my problem.
The really strange thing is I can occasionally connect to the network and if I try repeatedly, I can sometimes get an SMS to send. I've checked my SIM is clean (I've tried another SIM anyway) and everything seems fine.
My IMEI number is still intact and isn't blacklisted. I've tried restoring backups from when it was working (before I got it "fixed" the first time) and that's not worked. The current status of my phone is:
ROM: Omega v5.0
Version: 4.2.2
Baseband: I9300XELLA
Network: vodafone AU (sometimes shows as Unknown)
Mobile Network State showing as "Disconnected", except in rare moments
IMEI and Serial intact
I've tried all I can think of and all the suggestions I can find on the Internet. I'm hoping someone here will have some suggestions for things I can try. I'd really like to fix this issue as I've been without my phone for months. I'm thinking it could be a hardware issue, but want to make sure I've exhausted all options I can try myself first before trying to get a place to repair it. As my warranty is void, I'm not sure how easy this will be.
Thanks in advance for your time and suggestions,
Jay.

Return to a stock rom and use triangle away to reset the counter, retry with your provider, they may let it slide that you've previously tried.
It would appear that you've already tried everything.
Return to stock and update via OTA, remove root, remember to use triangle away, I personally haven't had to do it but i would imagine that it needs root privileges to complete so thinking about it i would say to use triangle away first.
Hope you get it sorted.

Hey,
Thanks for the quick response.
I doubt they would let it slide as I had a pretty long back and forth with them trying to get them to fix the phone or at least send it back to me without charging me for the shipping costs and that didn't end in my favour. I'm sure they'd remember that they already rejected it due to it being modified and would just blame the rooting for the issues.
I'm thinking I might just reset it all to stock, reset the counter and at least ask. If not, I'll try to find a repair shop who will take a look. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm still open to any other ideas people might have which I can try from my end.
Thanks,
Jay.
Starting point would be correct firmware modem and CSC for your location and network .
Flash your original rom .

Hey,
Thanks for the suggestion. I believe I have tried this by downloading the latest firmware from SamMobile and flashing that through Odin, but I haven't tried it through Keis, so I guess I'll give that a go.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks,
Jay.
Me too. I've an i9305 (S3 LTE) and i've tried every tutorials on internet and so far nothing: always the same issue "not registered on network". In case you solve the issue please let me know. I'll do the same. Txs
I've tried to connect my phone using Keis and it just seems to say "Connecting..." forever. I've tried running the connection troubleshooter and that just seemed to re-install the drivers but not actually fix the issue. I still can't get Keis to even connect to my phone.
Any ideas on why this would be? Or other suggestions I can try for my initial problem?
Thanks,
Jay.
As an update to this, it seems I've tried everything I can on my end to fix it to no avail. I believe it must be a hardware issue and have dropped it into a phone repair centre. I'm hoping they will be able to find the problem and fix it.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Another update to this, I received a response from the repair centre. They said:
"...we took it all apart and checked all connections and serviced it.
Once we put it back together we tested it with Vodafone and Optus sim cards. Both sims had service and were able to connect to the internet as well."
After I asked for more details on what they did to try and help me determine what the problem was, they said:
"The phone looked 100% fine inside, no signs of water or any other damage. Sometimes electronic devices can be a bit temperamental, maybe the fact that we undone and cleaned all connections it's booted it back to life."
So I'm going to pick it up tomorrow, but it sounds like it's all sorted now. So not it's not 100% clear what the issue was, but to anyone having this same problem who has tried everything like I did, it is likely a hardware issue. Your best bet is probably to try a repair shop (assuming your warranty won't cover the problem).
Thanks to those who offered suggestions and good luck to those with the same problem.
Do please tell us if it worked because i'm tempted to do the same as you did before selling it on ebay as faulty for parts. PLEASE ANSWER US BACK AFTER TESTING IT an entire day. THANK YOU A LOT!
Does it work properly now? Thanks - Please reply.
Not sure if it is exactly the same problem but I remember getting that msg when i was on Telstra and I'd installed a new ROM - I went to the Telstra site and got them to send an activation msg that reset my provider info. It didn't seem to matter for phone calls but I wasn't getting any connection to do with data until I 'ran' the msg they sent.

Txs for help but I don't have the backups of my efs folder... so I think it is useless therefore i am going to sell it on ebay as faulty for parts. Unfortunately! I love my i9305!
You should probably do some more searching on site - there are a number of things to do, including getting a service centre to fix it. Be cheaper than a new phone. Is it an i9300 or ann i9305?

It's a i9305 and I've tried everything, every tutorials on internet without success so far. I am tired of the situation and also very disappointed therefore I think i will sell it as faulty. As it regards to a repair center, near my area it's very difficult to find someone who can fix it.
For me it seems my connection is still intermittent when using my Vodafone SIM on my S3 (and the same for another Vodafone SIM I tried on this phone) whereas both SIMs work fine on other phones.
I then tried a Telstra SIM on my S3 and it worked fine. So it seems I have a weird problem with my phone where the combination of the S3 and Vodafone doesn't work, but other phones or other SIMs do work.
I think I'm just going to try changing carrier (I've been meaning to anyway) since it seems their SIMs work in my phone.
Really not sure what is causing this issue, but I'm at the point where I just want it fixed and I don't really care how. Hope you find out how to solve your issue.
How is your phone right now? Im also having the same problem. It always say 'not registered to network' everytime i make a call. This happens whenever i turn on the flight mode, then turning it off.. i have a strong signal and i can use the internet provided by my network but i cant make a call or text.. people cant also reach my number. I sent this already to samsung service ctr and they changed the board but its still there whenever i access the flight mode..

Have you done anything special to the phone before that? Like programming a ROM in Odin?
Is the IMEI in place?

Hi I think this may be an issue in some parts of the world, but not all. I have regular signal cuts like this in South Africa, but generally only when I'm in an area with weak cell signal. My wife also has a S3 LTE and gets the same signal cuts. When it happens I reboot my phone and it's fine again. I even went back to stock to test and it still happens on stock, just as it did when I first got the phone in November 2012.
I've been on AOSP roms the last few months and then it was fine, no signal cuts. Same with my wife's phone. Now I'm back on stock and the signal cuts are back, albeit not so often anymore, maybe one or two a week. I'm going to run stock for a few weeks and see if the issue persists.
What modem are you using? Have you changed it or is it the same modem that came with your phone?

a MODEM IS A MODULATOR DEMODULATOR . basically the bit that connects to the network .
Modem = Baseband .
\Suggest one factory reset two if that fails service centre and three read the basic faqs and guides .

you need to search before you post. also, answer my question for further troubleshooting
So to make a long story short, for the past few weeks I have not been able to send sms. It happened all of a sudden and with no changes to cause it. I can send mms, receive and make calls, but no sms. Took it to Verizon yesterday with the thought in mind that I had a faulty simple card, they tried another one and nothing. Factory reset, nothing. Spent two hours watching them try tthe same things I did. Then they gave up and said to refer to samsung. My question is, is this a software issue? And will rooting and throwing a rom on do the trick? Also is there a root method for after the 4.3 update at the moment?

Check to see if you are on Global or CDMA/LTE/EVDO
settings/more networks/mobile networks/network mode
I was having issues receiving MMS messages and set this from global back CDMA/LTE/EVDo and that fixed it.
Worth a try

Did you try a factory reset???
Hey bud... had the same issue. Over and over for quite some time (since before owning the S4).
Only real fix was to reset the phone (stock, rooted, or custom rom)... only to have it crop up later, again and again.
Last call to VZW and the girl had me swap my SIM and get a new phone, this was while I was on vacation and when I got home, the phone hard bricked on the MJ7 update. So I am not sure what is what and not even sure if it will crop up again. I haven't seen the issue for a few weeks though.
I do have a little, non scientific, theory on this.
Everytime I have had this occur that I can recall, I was traveling from my home. Maybe 100 miles or more. VZW messaging (web) never got any of the messages and the VZW rep can see the messages come into their system and the system believes it is delivering the messages. This also occured with the GNex.
I am assuming that one of two things are going on here.... something is messed up with my provisioning (and your's maybe) or there is an issue with handoffs.
A friend of mine went through the same thing until I did this:
Turn off the radios one by one including: bluetooth, mobile network, and then do airplane mode. Make sure you're on the CDMA/EvDO/LTE settings instead of global. Reboot the phone. Turn off airplane mode, and then turn on your mobile network and give it about a minute. Then try sending SMS.

Tried it. Nothing, I agree there has to be something wrong with the handoffs.

Damn ... I was hoping that was the ticket. Your phone might need to be provisioned. *228 to make sure it has updated PRLs. Failing that, you may need to call up VZW.

Not supposed to *228 our phones. Something about possibly frying the sim? Read and read and read.

It does not fry the sim anymore it just puts you in a 3g prl, after a week or to or after you cut your phone off it will auto update back to 4g prl

mb use odin and re-flash the stock rom? I never seen/faced issue like this but would like to help to find the solution, just in case I might deal with such thing later.

Don't know if it will fry the SIM, but *228 will tell you the your phone is already provisioned and it will fail.

I see. Yeah It just said my SIM was activated.
Just wanted to give this a bump to see if someone has any ideas
another bump. samsung doesn't want to send me a replacement and suggest i find a loner phone to put my sim in while they have it for over a week. i can't do that. Rooted the phone and put a rom on it to see if that would do the trick and nothing. Any suggestions before i argue with samsung?

I had SMS/MMS problems recently but now everything is working again. What version you on... MDK? And what ROM are you on?
edit: Here's a thread with some insight of what's going on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2654822

It is a known Verizon network issue. There is people way above the front line staff working on it. They don't tell the front line staff this because since it's just limited to aosp and they only support stock, unrooted phones they tell people there is no issue. They could send you ten replacements phones and they all will do the same thing. It's not the phone, it's not the AOSP rom, and it's not your sim card. It's a bizzare issue that makes all aosp roms ever made not work in certain areas, mostly central pa but others as well. There is another xda user working directly with the engineers providing me updates. I will let you know when we find out a resolution.
Here is my thread which is for the Note 2 with the same issue. There is also links that others have posted in my thread with the exact same symptoms since 2/20/14.
