Alright so ill start this of by saying, Picked up my note today and loving it so far. Got it rooted thanks to Da G and getting ready to get into roms.
Anyway im making this thread to see if anyone else has tried anything out on the non-AT&T notes(i.e I717M and what not). So far from what i have read people are developing mostly for the AT&T model and saying its not for bell rogers or telus. Now I have been in the samsung world for a while and when it comes to my galaxy there was always ways around this.
For instance most of my ROMs were made for the international version not my bell version. But as long as I kept a copy of the bell modem on my phone i could just flash that and the ROM worked great. So does anyone have a copy of the bell telus or rogers modem for the note? or know if there all the same?
Another example in the galaxy s world was the captivate(Same soft keys as our phones). A person with a captivate could flash an international ROM as long they made a soft key fix when they developed the ROM.
One of the main reasons I ask all of this is because i see so many N7000 ROMs up and running and am wondering what will and wont work.
Look forward to hearing from you all

Bell note here. Been. The at & t roms with no problem.
The only issue that I have is the Yellow Pages crap that appears in my contact list as well as at& t bloat depending on the rom. Easy enough to deal with though.
Aside from that, it's been perfect.
Currently on Team Perfection 4.0.4.

I forgot to add that I haven't had any issues with data speeds at all.
Also, Don't venture into the N7000 roms because they will not work.

The N7000 ROMs can hard brick your phone since the hardware if the two models are completely different. AS Far as ROMs go, most are based off the AT&T software simply because that's the only ICS leak we have available. But you can use any ROM for the i717 on your Bell Note. I have a Bell Note and flashed almost every ROM and never ran into any problems. Also, Ruth the help ofa lot of people on this sure, I've made stock images of the Bell, Telus, and Rogers Notes so we can always go back. Best if luck and don't hesitate to ask anything.
Thanks for the info, I get mine today and was wondering the same thing.
Yesterday I flashed my Rogers Branded Galaxy i717 with Bell Rom and Kernel and have not 1 issue. I chose to flash the rogers i717 with Bell because I use bell mobiletv and this was the only way to get this particular app to work. Again not 1 issue with data or anything else.
No Rooted device either. Just flashed using ODIN.
I'm currently running the UCLE2 Rom on my Rogers i717. I've noticed that I am not getting LTE where I should be. And GPS connectivity is shoddy at best.
I have a second i717 which is stock that is with me to compare (family member).
I am going to flash the Rogers modem to hopefully correct atleast the LTE issue. Anyone know if this would improve my GPS connectivity as well?
For a number of years I have been buying Canadian phones to use on ATT. Canadain ROMs have less restrictions than ATT. For instance tethering and NFC are not locked. Also after rooting my Roger's Note it took under a minute to remove the Rogers branding. (all except splash screen) I was left with a fully optioned unbranded ROM.
I did want to try the stock UCLE2 ROM out of curiosity but I thought it would not install because my phone was not an ATT I717. How did you install it eugenekim618? Personally I would rather wait for the Rogers ICS version. Keep checking everyday to see if it is available.
I have tried quite of a few of the ROMS on here with my Bell i717M, no problems at all so far, other than the "android.phone has stopped working" at startup, I don't know the cause but it only happens at boot.
DO NOT use N7000 roms! But all of the AT&T stuff has worked great for me.

I followed the posts in the Dev section to Root the phone.
Then installed CWM.
The picked a ROM I thought was good and followed the instructions in it's respective post to install.
I've done a lot of ROM installs for the Dell Streak I used to have and for a Sony Xperia X10.
So I am not totally unfamiliar with the process. Just a matter of getting used to the delivery method for each manufacturer. And then, dealing with the quirks of a ROM that is not 100% for your carrier. Goes with the territory, right?
I tried to read all the posts in a given thread as much as I can.
So you are saying you didn't install the one click odin stock UCLE2 ROM?

No, that doesn't work for non AT&T phones I believe. I tried it, and ODIN recognized the COM, but failed to install. From my readings, can't do the one click install on Rogers since it's not a Rogers ROM.
all custom roms should work no problem, ive flashed tons on my unlocked bell note.
its the stock odin files when you want to make sure you get the proper device.
Hey guys Ive flashed pretty much all the roms I can and some I cant lol. So far my experiances have encountered a few setbacks but nothing substantial and allot if not most of the bugs and glitchs occurring in the first & second gen of roms have been fixed or patched.
As far as roms go as was already mentioned as long as you stay away from n7000 model roms and stick to i727 youll be ok. With at&t roms I always seem to have signal and gps issues. Generally tho I find my signal problem will clear itself up on its own and I believe is actually just just caused by the fresh software 'settling in', even though my signal appears low or fluctuating speed testing always shows Im getting peak d/l & u/l speeds. If the signal doesnt seem to improve flashing the Bell stock modem via cwm always does the trick. Gps usually works great, very fast & accurate, when Im having location issues I use the 'faster fix' app from the market, I dont know about anyone elses experiance but allot of the times theres a problem the gps server isnt set to the normal 'north america pool' but servers Ive never seen before or set to an 'international pool'.
All in all besides signal headaches the only other recurring problems are the inherent and unpredictable random force closing of system apps. It can be pretty random but I find a few constant trouble makers to be at&t software update, android phone. At&t update can be disabled easily under applications in the main settings or I was able to actually remove it using 'rom toolbox's app manager but strangely not with root toolboxs remove system apps. For pretty much all other f/c problems the remedy is a running of 'fix permissions', there are a bunch of ways/apps to do it and Ive found using 'rom manager' works the best meanwhile rebooting into recovery and fixing permissions from there will actually cause more problems.
Ok so those are the most recurring and annoying issues Ive had to name a few but the list is too big to write merely because Ive tried just about every rom right from the sketchiest unstable first releases and everything in between lol so feel free to drop me line if your stuck on a problem cause I might be able to help.
But before I end this novel here lol I just flashed the new 'OnlyOne Beta2' rom from the development section and it runs great. The rom is super stable, very fast and features both fully functional S Voice app and fully functional S Notes app. If you havnt tried S Notes yet its awesome the new functions and abilities totally blew me away so I highly recommend you give this rom a try!

If you had LTE before and lost it through flashing a custom ROM or whatever then try changing your APN to your Carrier LTE network. If you never had LTE when you bought your phone, probably the seller gave you a wrong sim. tell her to give you a 403 LTE capable sim, the 401 is only 4G.

Thanks for the tip. But I got everything running again. I did have LTE to start, and have a LTE sim card. The *#2263* certainly helped. And Flapjaxxx's GPS tools in his ROM helped me get the GPS back up to par.

Try *#2263#
Then force select LTE, and select ALL. That should force the LTE connection. So watch the connection bars. You should see a loss of connection, then reconnect on LTE. Once that is established, do the code again, and just select automatic.

When I try dialing it, it says error can't find USSP or something like that... What does this mean?
Just to be clear that im doing the right thing. I go to the dialer and punch the code *#2263#. How do I "force select LTE"? will something popup for me to select it or should I go to settings/ wireless and networks... I don't have those options in "wireless settings", I only have APN settings...
T-mobile note users ....
I'm posting this thread as a request for information today.....let me explain.
Within the past few weeks, many members have reported sim card errors on their tmo devices after root and flash of custom roms.
I personally know about 5 devices within the week that have suffered this failure.....3 of which, have been recovered by downgrading to Gingerbread .....
I'm sure there are many more sim issues we haven't heard about, as they likely haven't posted.
My intent here, is to have as many tmo users as possible, post your flash success or failure, in an attempt to prevent more sim failure issues.
Although I'm an ATT note user, I'm willing to help monitor and collect data here, so future users won't suffer the same fate.
2 of these failed devices were sent for repair, even though they were only days old, and worked perfectly prior to root and flash.
So please, if you are using the T-mobile network........please post your history and results.
Together we will likely find the cause .
And perhaps generate enough attention to the issues, that a fix can be found...
I am not attempting to cause panic, but I feel we need to fix the problem now, before we have dozens of affected units, rather than just a few.
Many thanks in advance ....g

I would mention that many t-mobile subscribers cannot get good data and voice while using the at&t version of the note. With the choice of an at&t and a t-mobile model, you should get the t-mobile model -- you will be happier in the long run.
Happy T-mobile user

I bought an AT&T note off craigslist about a month ago. It was unlocked, before I handed over the cash I put my T-mobile sim in and called a friend he said it sounded great so I bought it. I did a couple of speed tests with it and usually get between 3 and 6 mbps down and a lot slower up. I've had no problems, everything works great including GPS. It's running ICS 4.04 stock AT&T ROM and the baseband is unknown. I don't know who unlocked and set it up but they did a great job as far as I'm concerned. YMMV
off-topic, deleted.
It's all good ranger ....
Any and all info on the T-Mobile network while using the ATT note is welcome ....even the success stories.
I did request both in the OP, as I feel that we need both sides of the user responses to nail this thing down.
I do appreciate your response, and ask you for any assistance you can provide here.
This problem is so odd .....as it's not a brick ....but yet it is ....g
I sold my note to a TMo user...called them today(two days after) and they said it was working amazing....it was rooted and unlocked by an amazingly awesome person though(haha jkjk). The guy never rooted before and said the speed tests were rocking his gfs GS3 in TMo and the clarity of the call was great as well....ait could be a root issue or ROM issue though...
As far as unlocking if the pgones unlocked any way except for calling ATT customer care there is always that risk...plus a three minute phone call and giving someone your imei shouldnt be too much hassle .. So theres that dudes exoeruence from someone that knows what they are doing(kind of)...
The rom I left him on was AOCP CP3 by the collective jsyk

noting the unlock method here.....
I believe you are right.....We have many service unlock options, but only one that is safe....and thats the carrier method...
could this be as simple as users not unlocking the sim prior to root and flash ??? or an improper unlock ???
I'm hoping we can get some users in here to clarify that possibility for us.
Many thanks for bringing that up....g
Thank you Rob....

Users on the T-Mobile network, are losing the ability too see or access the sim card, after rooting and flashing the device with a custom rom.
Generally they are flashing ICS, but we also have some users reporting sim loss while using GB roms as well.
We know a few things that are leading to a possible cause.
The first is the carrier offset (my term for t-mobile users with an ATT device )
The second is the need for carrier unlock for the device to be used at all with t-mobile.
The third is the inability to restore "any " sim activity after the failure....(although a few users have been successful after a complete unroot and downgrade to GB .
Although I haven't yet found a pattern in this ....I have reason to believe we are seeing a carrier related lockout of some kind, as the sim functions fine in other devices, and the device functions normally minus it's ability to detect the sim or any network.
Perhaps a good next step, would be to re-lock the device to the carrier again, after a complete stock restore of the device.
I wish that we had an affected device to try this with, but unfortunately, the affected users are returning the device for repair or replacement.
Not all users will, as they need a working device immediately, and are trying desperately to restore functionality.
That being said, I'm hoping this thread will draw an affected user here, so we can explore more aggressive, and hopefully effective solutions.
I can't ask anyone to risk a device beyond their willingness to try, and with some proactive thoughts from our fantastic user base, we will crack this problem open, and create a fix.
We all know the risks involved in flashing firmware images, but since we are now crossing not only the root/flash barrier, we are adding the carrier change into the mix. And that brings it's own unique set of challenges to the table.
I sincerely appreciate any and all help, in my search to help our note users succeed in fixing the ghost in this machine ....g
I know this is a noob question but I've been reading all these t-mo service/I717 threads cuz I'm thinking of doing this. Does rooting the phone unlock it? I'm on the liquid jb rom.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
I would like to echo what rangercaptain said earlier in the thread, regarding the fact that the SGH-I717 was never designed to run on the T-Mobile network.
And although we have virtually identical hardware and operational features, clearly something is different enough to cause this issue.
And I "do not " believe it is user error.
In the meantime, I would advise any user thinking about converting the ATT note to use on the T-Mobile network, to think very hard before attempting to do so......at least, until a verified and working solution can be found.
Ultimately, we need a bone stock ATT note, and a t-mobile user brave enough to try the process repeatedly, until the cause is identified, by eliminating one process at a time ...g

Rooting a device simply gives it's user the administrator rights needed to access the protected system and data sections of the device, that are normally reserved to the factory, carrier, and programming engineers of the software.
It does nothing to unlock you from your carrier.
That is done by contacting the carrier, and requesting that service.
It is also possible to be unlocked by a third party, but clearly their are risks involved in doing so while using the ATT note on the t-mobile network.
We are working very hard to correct the current "no sim card present" issue ...g

I have been running the AT&T i717 note on the T-Mo network since Tomin figured out how to get the 4g working, many months ago. I have not had problems with voice quality or sim card issues. I have run the Saurom GB roms, Goldie's Only1, many ICS roms, and now am on the stock T-Mo rom with the Blaze ICS modem.Tried all the modems, and Blaze works best for me. YMMV. I got a new sim from T-Mo to enable wifi calling. My data averages 3-5 megs, upload 1-1.8 megs, but at work I regularly hit 14 meg download. But like everyone, the speed is erratic, but functional for everything I do, including streaming netflix. My speeds were faster and more consistant with the GB roms, but the ICS speeds are plenty fast. I unlocked my phone with cellunlocker.com I think was the service. Nothing but a success story with my AT&T note on T-Mobile. And I get to keep my unlimited, unthrottled $5.99/month grandfathered data plan with 4g (if I used a "known" to T-Mo 4g phone I would have to upgrade. The AT&T note is "unknown" to T-Mo, If I got the T-Mo note it would trigger new data charges). For me, this is the point of the whole excersize. I have been lucky, and the Phoenix area has good coverage for me as far as T-Mo. This has been my experience.

So I am leaving Montana for south Korea soon and was pretty excited to learn that my Rezound is global capable. The only thing is I am unsure if it will work on a Korean SIM card, or how to do so. I am s-off running the first leaked ics ruu. Do I need to ruu to the global firmware? Or will any gsm capable roms work without a firmware update? Also, if there's any one out there who has been to south Korea and could give me some tips on providers to choose from it would be appreciated.
Sent from my ... Rezound
You need to install the official Global RUU, leaks can be problematic because they prevent you from getting OTAs on stock rom and may not be the latest, most stable software.
I think there have been like 2 official firmware upgrades and several leaks between what you are running and global.
You do need a GSM enabled ROM, and one that is based on the global firmware. Simplicity or Newts One XXX 5.08 may be good options for you if u want to stick with a Sense ROM.
You may still need to call Verizon re: international calling, although I wouldn't mention I was rooted.

Thanks for helping. I was a little unclear in my original post however; I actually am running Newts One XXX 5.1.0 currently (awesome by the way). What I am wondering though is this; will the fact that I am not on the global firmware mean that I will need to RUU update in order to get service with a South Korean provider. I do not plan on trying to remain with Verizon as I will be in South Korea for more than a year.

rezound in rok
I'm also heading to the rok and hoping to use my rezound. I'm on stock ics ota. I'm going to see what I get on a stock rom before I do any unofficial releases, but I expect to drop SMS capabilities or maybe data like you see in the states with a T-Mobile sim in. I arrive in Korea on the 31st so I'll update sometime late next week and let you know. I've been to Korea before and I believe we will have to go with SK Telecom as our carrier because it is the only GSM network. The other networks are cdma to the best of my knowledge. Hopefully my next update will be from my phone on a Korean network!
Rezound in South Korea update
In Korea now. I just flashed my phone from a stock OTA ICS, unrooted, s-on over to the Global RUU found on Androidpolice.
I have tried to buy just a sim card from several stores, SK, KT Olleh etc, and the stores all say that I have to go to the headquarters stores located in Seoul, Yongsan Train Station on the top floor. Apparently this is the ONLY way to get a sim for a global phone, other than having a korean national get one for you and give it to you. This weekend I will be going to the headquarters stores and getting a sim, Other problems you may run into are related to being a foreigner in Korea. They will sometimes not want to sell you a phone on a contract because you as a foreigner could disappear at any time without paying the bill. So, they will try to get you to buy prepaid. I don't want to deal with prepaid anything, but that may be a viable option to get a SIM card easily. Just buy a reallllly cheap prepaid phone that has a sim in it, pull the sim and throw it in your global enabled device. Unless you speak Korean, navigating to the headquarters and getting what you want may prove a bit difficult. Fortunately, I do speak Korean, so I will let you know how it goes.
I will update again once I actually have a Sim in my phone!
Thanks for the valuable information so far. I will be arriving there at the end of November and am looking forward to hearing more about how It's going for you there.

got a sim, no data!
Finally got a sim from KT Olleh today. The girl at the counter didn't believe me that the phone would work, but I got her to do it anyway. By the way, don't try to set up service for a phone anywhere in Korea on a weekend. They cannot activate a new phone unless its a weekday. So anyway, got it all setup and the girl sits there and plays with my phone for a while without saying anything to me. Then she tells me that the calling and texting is fine but the phone won't get a data signal. I asked her to set the APN, and she said she did. I checked it out and she had put in the KT APN as alwayson.ktfwing.com Looks right to me, and she seemed to know what she was doing for the most part. Then she started to go on about how Korea runs on CDMA for the most part and not GSM yadda yadda.
So, I have a Rezound, working for incoming and outgoing calls and text on KT Olleh, but no data signal at all. I might repost a similar message in another forum topic to see if any gurus have any advice on how to get it working. Also going to do some more research. I'm new to this but there is tons of information out there. I will post again once I have resolution or give up and buy a new phone!
PS Phones in korea can be REALLY expensive. Dropped 850 on my wifes LG phablet (optimus VU2)!!! Equivalent to the instinct in the states I think?
didn't flash twice
So, I am a phone noob, and did a lot of reading last night. Saw that most people flash rezounds twice anytime putting on new firmware etc. I think I will try that tonight and see if I pick up the data signal.
The ruu's generally need to be flashed twice. However I did not need to do so going to the global, the ruu automatically took care of everything.

Some helpful information that KT Olleh has to say about using a non-korean phone in Korea.

The rezound may not have the radio frequency that network uses. That would be the main problem as to why you aren't picking up data.

I am currently in Seoul and have rented an Evergreen Mobile Sim Card that works on KT Olleh's network. I am curious as to whether you were ever able to get your Rezound to work with their Data network, and if so, how? Mine works with Olleh Wifi for free but will not even recognize the 3G, despite my having changed the APN settings, and even going to the Evergreen Mobile office in Yeoksa-dong today (they said they couldn't get it to work after an hour of fiddling with it themselves).
Suggestions? Do I have to root?
Oh, and the link in your above post has expired. Could you summarize what KT said?
Thanks!

Hi,
I am using CM 10.1 M3. I haven't updated my modem in a long time. It is I717UCLF6. Is that the right one? How do I know which one to use?

It's kinda hard to answer which modem you need without some more details. It's also a personal preference based on where you live. Some modems/radios work better in certain areas than others. What network are you on, AT&T? I'm on AT&T and heard the latest modem for our i717 is the i717UCMB4. You can flash that one in recovery. I used it and it works but for some reason the i717UCLD3 modem is working better for me. I got that modem when I used odin to install this rom, then flashing my favorite rom on top of it. Some people say the UCLF6 modem works better for them. You can get that one here and flash thru your recovery. Sorry I can't find the i717UCLD3 flashable zip. Maybe someone else has a link so you can flash between all 3 and see what works out best for ya.
No need to do any modem flashing. LF6 is the latest and greatest modem available.
Updating.....AT&T released 4.1.2 and a new baseband/modem which can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261713 and is flashable from custom recovery.
I'm testing out a possible switch to T-Mobile. Had AT&T unlock my phone today and got a prepaid T-Mobile SIM in it. I'm getting H+ (LTE?) speeds while doing data transfer and then it drops back to 3G when data isn't being used heavily. I'm on UCLF6. Although I've had this phone for a year, installed tons of ROMs, compiled my own kernel, etc. I'm a noob when it comes to modems and have just used whatever worked. What's the advantage of using a "T-Mobile" modem if UCLF6 seems to be working on T-Mobile anyways? Do you get more speed out of it?
I don't want to lose AT&T compatibility yet as I just got the prepaid T-Mo to test out (been getting crappy reception with AT&T at work and tired of the expensive plan of minutes I don't use). If T-Mo improves my speeds at work I'll probably just pay to cancel my AT&T contract and transfer my number, but for now I'm just testing.
Well I am not sure about the baseband/modem issues on T-Mobile but most important would be the GSM Bands/LTE are compatible. As some AT&T phones don't support 3G/LTE frequencys T-Mobile use. If you are using a prepaid SIM it may not even support LTE for example Straight Talk on AT&T supposedly will only use HSPA+ .
I have a Verizon Note 2. The ROMs available here for it are either stuck in KitKat, or littered with bugs that I just can't live with in a daily driver.
What I've wondered is can I flash TWRP for say the N7100, and then my phone will think that's what I have and let me flash those ROMs? Or, can I maybe even flash a different bootloader for the same purpose? Is this possible? I really want to get a couple more years out of my Note 2, but if I can't find a usable ROM then I'll be forced to say goodbye to it. So, can someone help?
I run a lot of at&t roms. I have tried a great number of ROMs and I have found that t mo Vzw at&t and international all work. But you have to set up APN stuff yourself. And never ever flash a modem or a ROM that includes one. There is still some kind of lock on the basdands.
Seriously, have you tried any of the AOSP roms that are on 5.1.1. XenonHD, CyanideL for instance. Rock stable, beautiful, fast. You could easily get another 2 years out of this phone once marshmallow hits.
Also, Alliance 4.4.2 TW ROM is rock solid.
I have a note 5 that sits in the drawer. Note II = best phone I have ever had. Will cry when it dies.
"Rock stable" is a subjective term, I guess. I personally don't consider the lack of bluetooth google voice commands, and the lost of 4g requiring setting APN settings to default to be "Rock stable".
Seriously.
Heh... If you struggle changing APN settings, you are gunna be in a world of hurt using a TMO ROM.
All you have to do is delete the APN, and reset it. That is with any 5.1.1 ROM.
Guess I never encountered the Bluetooth bug.
Have you tried XenonHD?

My point is that with a "rock solid" rom, the APN settings would just work and no resetting would be necessary.
Initial setup and long term stability are two completely different concepts IMO. Anything other than stock is going to take some initial setup. Whether that be applying GAPPS or SU or flashing kernel, or APN, or theming.
I guess I don't know what you want. Weren't you talking about flashing N7100 ROMs?? You know how much setup it will take to get those to work?
Again have you tried XenonHD?
So, I'll pose the question again...
Can I run other Note II roms that weren't designed for the Verizon version of the phone? If so, how exactly do I change the APN settings to accommodate my Verizon service?

No, that wouldn't be a good idea. Because each carrier has their own version of software for the Note II, they cannot be cross compatible. I once had a Sprint S2 and tried flashing an international ROM onto it, and let's just say that didn't end well. I got it fixed with some luck tho. What are you trying to accomplish by getting a Tmobile/ATT/SPRINT ROM? Also btw another reason is because AT&T and TMobile run off of the GSM bands and Verizon/Sprint run off of a CDMA band. The two don't mix. And no you can't flash a Sprint ROM either, as they use different CDMA bands.
I have the i605 Verizon variant of the Note 2. I changed service from Verizon to Straighttalk and since straighttalk uses AT&T, if I use a verizon rom on AT&T, incoming calls and outgoing calls are a pain in the ass. So, in order to accommodate this problem, I had to install the i317 att note 2 custom recovery version on my i605. I use the ATT SlimKat custom rom on my i605 without any issues. battery life is good and pretty stable. it is safe to odin flash an AT&T custom recovery to a i605. but if you flash a custom rom, be sure it doesn't have a modem or boot.img inside or you will run into problems. Generally stay away from TW roms as i've found they usually have them.
