Clockworkmod / External SD - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

I know there are a bunch of threads about CWM, but I need a straight answer. I have the T- Mobile SGS3 and I want to be able to read and back up to my external SD card. These other threads are so confusing and they mix in other carriers instructions. Could someone please give me some instructions on what version of CWM to use and how to go about getting this to work. I am currently on the AOKP ROM. My computer won't recognize my phone when using AOKP, this is a known issue... I would greatly appreciate any help... Thank you!

Have you formatted the card to FAT32 yet? It seems to be an issue wih the S3 reading NTFS or exFAT.

That app does not work on our S3..

Did you flash cm10 or aokp if so that's the problem. Just transfer the files to PC then
Format to fat32 if u plan on using cm10.x again

Listen to deez. If you use AOKP or AOSP, you need to format your sd card to fat32.
End of thread.

To format a card or external drive to Fat32, using Windows, just follow the link and click on the picture to download!! So easy a caveman could do it!

No SD card error

Hey guys, I'm using the latest Aocp 4.2.2 with the AJ kernel and every time I reboot my phone my internal SD card vanishes. I wiped, reset etc and after initial boot its fine but once I reboot gone again. Any idea how to remedy this problem
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
Has this happened on any other ROMs you've tried?
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda app-developers app
No. I had been using Aokp 4.2 before and didn't experience it. Its something to do with AJs kernel. I flashed the latest cm kernel and no more problem but the WiFi won't turn on

Post in the AOCP thread, or PM AJ directly. He'll get it sorted out quickly.

Unfortunately I haven't made enough posts yet to post in there yet and haven't heard back from AJ. No luck so far. Still having the same problem

Try this out and let me know if it helps with your issue.
Thanks AJ! I will give it a try and let you know

I think that may have solved the problem AJ. I've rebooted several times and SD card is working fine so far. Appreciate it!

Maybe you should check with a 3rd party root explorer what you have on your phone and compare the results?
cheers
I did try this to no avail.
Gave up, wiped and reflashed.
No clue.
Thanks.

Exfat

Is there an EVO 3D CDMA rom that allows an exfat sdcard? There used to be a kernel that added support, but the I can't find the kernel anymore. With 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4 roms, I figured one of them has to have the ability to read exfat. Please help. Thanks

None that I know of. Would be easier to format to fat then it works with every ROM/kernel combo.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I would, just didn't want to move the files off to format it. Someone had a kernel that could read exfat on another forum as it wasn't allowed here, but the site is gone. Oh well, I'll figure something out. Thanks
