Hey guys,
I'm trying to install the rooted gingerbread rom using these instructions:
1. Download the file from above and drop it on your SD card.
2. Root your DROIDX2 using Gingerbreak.
3. Bootstrap the recovery using the DX2 bootstrap app.
4. Once you have bootstrapped, “reboot into recovery.”
5. Once in recovery, it would be wise to create a new backup.
Backup and Restore>Backup
6. Then choose “install zip from sd card.”
7. Then select the file from your SD card that you downloaded above.
8. Run it and enjoy the update!

Click to collapse
But after I choose the .zip from that post, an error comes up that says:
Code:
Verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/app/Swype.apk", "<some md5 hash>", "<some different md5 hash>");
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted
I did do a factory restore in the built-in recovery menu, so I don't understand this error - why would Swype still be on my phone? Is it? Or does my phone think the Swype.apk IN the update is bad? I'm not ballsy enough to go and remove it or something. How can I get around this?
Any advice is appreciated.
My goal, of course, is to have a rooted gingerbread phone. If I can just install the stock update from verizon or whatever, then root again with z4 or gingerbreak (does this work?) I'm OK with that too.
That was actually a common error that a lot of us were getting.

Read that thread and you should be good to go.
Is the zip linked from the blue Download link in that thread the one I should be using? It's md5 matches the one that I had failing last night.
Edit: Saw the torrent, different hash. Will try that...
Edit: EXACT same error with that one.

Root My phone using GingerBreak? Why would I want to install a Prerooted Op if GingerBreak Worked??? File Above???? What file above?? Itried the latest Ver. of Gingerbreak it does not work!!!
Verizon Droid X2
Android ver. 2.3.3
Baseband Ver. n_03.13.28s
System ver1.3.232.MB870.Verizon.en.US
ERI ver. 5
PRL Ver. 52341
All I want to do is root my phone
Please Help!!!
Gingerbreak doesn't work on 2.3.3, you'll have to sbf back to froyo and update with p3droid's pre-rooted gingerbread. Search the forums for a great thread containing all the files and directions.

I give up before imcomplete info Bricks my phone.

Im not sure what you're talking about, that tutorial is like 90% idiotproof. This is my first smartphone ever and those directions were simple enough for even me to follow. And if you hard brick your x2 let us know because you would be the first person on xda to do it.....seriously

Root/Unlock/Relock Method and Files
Root-Unlock-Relock Pack 1/26/12
Download the Root-Unlock-Relock Pack and extract using 7zip. In the zip you will find all the files needed and the instructions. The only thing it doesn't have is full stock SBF's which can also be downloaded from my site.
ive downloaded all three of these files and they contain the stock image but when extracted it gives an error and says it doesnt exist. the other files extract fine???
edit: nvm had to use 7zip. winrar was giving me errors.

Here you got 2 Links (2Parts)
Don't forget to unpack them, to get the right update Zip!
And feel free to hit the Thanks Button from 'leisures' for uploading this files
anyone able to post up the system_signed.zip from the SPDREM_U_01.6.5.1-167_SPU-15-M2-3_SIGNEuropeAustraliaEMEA_USASPDRRTGB_HWp2b_Service1FF_fastboot.xml.zip as well? dont really feel like downloading a whole 864mb file if I can get just the system_signed.zip from someone thanks
The system_signed has an size from 774mb, the Fastboot got 864mb. So only Downloading the System wouldn't be much faster
hahaha okay no worries! thanks for that. Got about 10 mins left on the entire file so all good.
EDIT: okay so I did everything and currently flashing the new OTA via stock moto recovery and it's been stuck on "Patching system files" for a while now.. about 5 minutes. How long does this part usually take? Or has my flash frozen?
EDIT2: okay so after approx 8 mins the patching system part finished and it's breezing through now.. just starting up the phone now. thanks to the OP and everyone else for this. The gf is happy now lol always complaining that I do lots of stuff to my One X but not to her RAZR (which I gave to her to replace her crappy BB Bold)

Does anyone know where I can find the OTA asia.retail ICS .zip file that works with the stock recovery method? My understanding is that if I have this .zip file, I can just go to recovery (poweron+volumeup+volumedown, select recovery, then push volup+voldown from the funny little android dude screen to get menu, select the .zip file off the SD card), and then I'm good.
I'm running an XT910 with stock 2.3.6 asia.retail. I was offered the OTA a few weeks ago, but didn't have time then, had time over last weekend, factory reset in prep for the OTA, but now the OTA offer won't reappear. I think the above method is probably easiest and most foolproof and least likely to brick.
I've looked pretty hard, but I cannot find a link to the stock OTA ICS asia.retail ROM as the .zip file that will flash like the above described method. Does anyone have a link for a known working version?
Thanks!!!
Bump just once. I guess no one ever saved it when it came out?

Thanks for that link! From what I read there, there is still no known place to download the asia.retail ICS OTA flashable via stock recovery method. I find that surprising, but not especially so, given the BS we all suffer from motorola.

Dude, you should read the posts correctly. It IS AsiaRetail. In fact I myself have been running it for weeks now. Look at the version details in the screenshots in the thread.
Mods, this thread is redundant. Pls close it.
1 someone else in the thread said it was PSH, not a.r - I thought it wise to double check prior to flashing.
2. If you hadn't bumped this thread, it would have drifted away.
3. I flashed my phone yesterday with stock recovery method & now have a stock asia.retail ICS phone, THANK YOU!!!!
I purchased a second hand XT910 installed AVG and it informed me my phone is rooted.
Now I know nothing about rooting, nor the benefits/drawbacks, however I'm being given the option to install the downloaded JB update but it keeps failing, I've worked out the reason is because it's rooted, how do I go about installing the update, or unrooting the phone so it will do it itself?
Appreciate any help provided.

when the install fails it will state what the error is if its a file it will give the md5 and sha-1 (basically a load of numbers and letters.
if you could put those and the file path someone maybe able to give you the file's you need to get the update to run.
what they mean by sbf files are these http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umts_spyder/list.php these you can flash to your phone with a program RSD lite which when done will put the phone to stock, meaning to its original state and without root. then you can set the phone up how you like and can update to jelly bean.
it all sounds really hard but its not really i did it myself not knowing a thing before.

Hi, it doesn't give any error code, the droid falls over, it restarts the phone, then just says software update failed.
