[Q] Problems installing pre-rooted gingerbread. - Motorola Droid X2

Hey guys,
I'm trying to install the rooted gingerbread rom using these instructions:
1. Download the file from above and drop it on your SD card.
2. Root your DROIDX2 using Gingerbreak.
3. Bootstrap the recovery using the DX2 bootstrap app.
4. Once you have bootstrapped, “reboot into recovery.”
5. Once in recovery, it would be wise to create a new backup.
Backup and Restore>Backup
6. Then choose “install zip from sd card.”
7. Then select the file from your SD card that you downloaded above.
8. Run it and enjoy the update!
Click to collapse
But after I choose the .zip from that post, an error comes up that says:
Code:
Verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/app/Swype.apk", "<some md5 hash>", "<some different md5 hash>");
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted
I did do a factory restore in the built-in recovery menu, so I don't understand this error - why would Swype still be on my phone? Is it? Or does my phone think the Swype.apk IN the update is bad? I'm not ballsy enough to go and remove it or something. How can I get around this?
Any advice is appreciated.
My goal, of course, is to have a rooted gingerbread phone. If I can just install the stock update from verizon or whatever, then root again with z4 or gingerbreak (does this work?) I'm OK with that too.

That was actually a common error that a lot of us were getting.

Read that thread and you should be good to go.

Is the zip linked from the blue Download link in that thread the one I should be using? It's md5 matches the one that I had failing last night.
Edit: Saw the torrent, different hash. Will try that...
Edit: EXACT same error with that one.

Use this one, the torrent one is not the prerooted version, someone effed up. the one in the original post works

Root My phone using GingerBreak? Why would I want to install a Prerooted Op if GingerBreak Worked??? File Above???? What file above?? Itried the latest Ver. of Gingerbreak it does not work!!!
Verizon Droid X2
Android ver. 2.3.3
Baseband Ver. n_03.13.28s
System ver1.3.232.MB870.Verizon.en.US
ERI ver. 5
PRL Ver. 52341
All I want to do is root my phone
Please Help!!!

Gingerbreak doesn't work on 2.3.3, you'll have to sbf back to froyo and update with p3droid's pre-rooted gingerbread. Search the forums for a great thread containing all the files and directions.

I give up before imcomplete info Bricks my phone.

Im not sure what you're talking about, that tutorial is like 90% idiotproof. This is my first smartphone ever and those directions were simple enough for even me to follow. And if you hard brick your x2 let us know because you would be the first person on xda to do it.....seriously

Odin this recovery: http://www.mediafire.com/file/06al8prkgj29gps/cwm-recovery-ALL-3-30-FIX.tar and then flash this from recovery:http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7223192/RootSF/su-2.3.6.1+busybox1.19.zip But make sure after you odin the recovery to boot directly into recovery before the phone boots up normally.
If you are going to stay stock you need to edit a few files to keep custom recovery if you want it. Right now I am on ed03 debinged, all those junk apps removed and a few other tweaks. I started with the ota update, rooted with one click v1.8 then I used root explorer, not free but worth it. I had to edit the file names of /system/etc/install-recovery.sh, then /system/bin/recovery, and last /system/recovery-from-boot.p. The fix was actually easy all I did was rename file and add .no at the end of each if those files so I don't have to try and remember what they were called. So now rooted customized with times_infinity's blue CWR sorta stock fascinate. My first attempt with this I bricked it and had to Odin again so if you do this be careful what you edit and delete. Then boot to cwr and fix permissions first, then wipe dalcic and cache. That is how I had to did it to get first boot after finishing. Usual disclaimer I am not responsible for anything you choose to do to your phone, you did it not me. I an only sharing my successful process with others.

Do you just rename or remove the Bing apks with root explorer to get Bing off the device? I have a Fascinate on the way and I too would like to de-bing ED03 as opposed to installing the ED01 de-binged ROM.
thanks.

[Q] Was told not to update

Hello everyone!
Just bought the photon yesterday and have a question about updating the software. I was told by the gentlemen not to update(On 45.2.5 now) because if I did I would not be able to use WIFI. Says that the update would break it. Has anyone ran into this? I've looked around and haven't really seen any mention of it.
Any help would be great!
This is the first time I'm hearing of this. Those store reps are clueless when it comes to phones lol. It won't break your wifi.

1) What system version are you on?
2) What happened during the update?
3) Is your phone completely stock (you have not modded it in any way)?
4) If necessary, you can push the latest update via RSD Lite v5.5
Good luck!

You gotta use that for the latest update via RSD, rooting it won't get you updates. And whoever told you that updating would break your WIFI was a dolt. It actually fixes most of the WIFI issues people were having. I've attached the 5.5 version of RSD so you don't have to hunt it down. Just follow the instructions in the thread I linked above and you should be golden. :]

You need to extract the zip file you downloaded from the link xTMFx provided (contains the 198_7 SBF)...you open this SBF file in RSD Lite, connect your phone to the computer after putting it in RSD mode, and hit START.

Once RSD lite has done it's thing, the phone will reboot, or you will have to manually reboot (it's a soft brick, just pull the battery if necessary).
Best,
K
I generally have had to pull my battery then reboot manually. But works just fine for me.

There is no paid version of his utility. Are you in fastboot ap mode on your phone when you try to use his utility?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
yes i'm in ap fastboot mode,i downloaded 2 versions of dru one is a 7-zip file which i can't open on my pc even though i downloaded the program to do it ,i don't know what type of file the other version is got it from matts xda post,it opens and runs but again i get the script saying files\moto-fastboot ect...when i first tried to root using doomlord it installed the bionic bootstrapper the root didn't take so i uninstalled the bootstrapper and rooted using motofail i don't have any boot or safe strap installed, please someone help me i want to be ready when ics rolls out,.......
I'd suggest going back to Matt's thread, and going through a few pages as there is an updated version. I think it's also posted at another razr forum. Delete the versions you have just to eliminate any confusion. You may also just want to use RSD. It took me a few tries to get the right fastboot file, but once I did I just had to ota to .173 then to .181.

wow if only i would have listened to you sooner,i assumed lite or full version meant paid or free!I was at my wits end yesterday so i emailed matt and while i was reading his response something clicked in the back of my head so i went to matts thread and downloaded the full version which includes the fastboot files and tada i'm now running on the 181 update!now i just have to reroot and restore my apps from titanium and i'll be set, thanks to you and matt and all on xda who tried to help me,if i wasn't so bullheaded and paid attention i'd have had this done weeks ago,now come on ics!!!!!!!!!!

can ics be loaded on unrooted razr

All these diffrent leaks flying around, how do i know wich is the right one for me.
i have a GSM ME retail device on 2.3.6, oh, and unrooted.
I've read that u just download the zip file, put it on your sd card, reboot into recovery
find the zip file and load it. Is that correct?
So if somebody has simple step by steps and a direct download link to the zip file for my phone
That would be great, cause i think motorola has forgotten about south africa.
Yes it can be loaded on an unrooted RAZR. Use the following post but first read carefully

[Q] XT910 won't update to Jellybean

I purchased a second hand XT910 installed AVG and it informed me my phone is rooted.
Now I know nothing about rooting, nor the benefits/drawbacks, however I'm being given the option to install the downloaded JB update but it keeps failing, I've worked out the reason is because it's rooted, how do I go about installing the update, or unrooting the phone so it will do it itself?
Appreciate any help provided.

when the install fails it will state what the error is if its a file it will give the md5 and sha-1 (basically a load of numbers and letters.
if you could put those and the file path someone maybe able to give you the file's you need to get the update to run.
what they mean by sbf files are these http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umts_spyder/list.php these you can flash to your phone with a program RSD lite which when done will put the phone to stock, meaning to its original state and without root. then you can set the phone up how you like and can update to jelly bean.
it all sounds really hard but its not really i did it myself not knowing a thing before.

Hi, it doesn't give any error code, the droid falls over, it restarts the phone, then just says software update failed.
Here is a screenshot of the system info, don't know if it can help you help me?
It won't let me post the image (outside links) until I have 10 posts, so there goes that idea.
