Problem whilst flashing two files - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After flashing Siyah Kernel and CRT off animations, i had an issue where the phone would display a symbol for car mode up in the notification bar, you can't remove it, only a reboot will get rid, but then after the reboot it comes back.
I had to flash the rom again, i haven't flashed CRT nor Siyah since.
I'm on Orange UK, i'm running Omega 8.1, (Now 9) Kernel is stock and radio is XXLFB
If anyone can help with this i'd appreciate it.
Many thanks.
EDIT: I'm going to flash Siyah's new kernel to eliminate it as the cause.
Update: Flashed Siyah Kernel and all is well, so i guess it's the CRT animations that's doing it, has anyone else had this issue?
It's really annoying.

Haven't tried it myself. But heard of ppl saying something about a car mode(safe mode) where u got limited access to the phone, but i think it only happens on stock rom.
But your not the only one, next time try and find an app called car and disable it.. well i don't know.just a suggestion.

Yea I've looked through apps and titanium and autostarts and there's nothing like that running. Its weird, but it isn't safe mode m8. It just appears after installing crt animations. Maybe it changes something in the system files, I'm guessing that I used the wrong version for my firmware and its had an adverse effect. There is a thread for crt so ill wait til they make one for my firmware. I think its xlfb. Also I have full access to my phone.
Thanks for your reply.

[Q] FC Hell, Help! Voodoo problem

I had installed Voodoo and went to install one of the AOSP roms available. I didnt realize that it would overwrite the kernel and now upon booting the phone will go into FC loops. I cant get anywhere and cant get into CWM. I thought I would try using ODIN to get back to stock but now its doing the same thing at stock. I'm at a loss. What should I do? Is my phone Perma-bricked?
Was it my rom? I don't think it deletes the kernal?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
blue breeze. I didnt think so either but now I get nothing but FC's from startup. So I tried to flash back to stock. Still nothing.
Oh my there are going to be a lot of these...
I don't know. I think that IF I had flashed the ROM first and then Voodoo I would've been fine. Unless I'm wrong and that's not what caused the issue. Any solution or am I out of a phone?
why can't you get into cwm? even by turning your phone off and holding the volume keys and the power button?
It goes to stock recovery, always has. I could only get into CW by going to ROM manager and booting into it that way.
do the update.zip and it should take you to cwm
the reason you're in FC HELLLLLLL is cuz you flashed over voodoo. that's why JT said don't flash over vooodooooo. you can fix it by going back to stock with odin. then i suggest loading bubby's kernal then voodoo over that.
Ive tried going back to stock with ODIN and it still does it. I'm going to try re-downloading the stock files and do it again. BTW the FC's are: android/process.media, and TwLauncher. I cant even get to any kind of homescreen or settings to turn on debugging.
i tried going back to stock with odin because i wanted to remove voodoo anyway before i flashed a rom and still am getting FC's like crazy
Have you tried this?
Have you checked this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=807088 ...would be a good idea....

[SOLVED] Wifi turning on forever

I flashed clockworkmod recovery from the CWM app. I rebooted and gave me bootloop. I force rebooted into recovery, cleared cache and dalvik cache and booted fine. The problem is that wifi says turning on, but never actually turns on. After the boot every app gave a force close so I installed them again with titanium.(I don't know if it is relevant, but I say it anyway!). I am on stock, rooted 3.2. Any help will be appreciated guys.
EDIT: I tried rebooting, and activating/deactivating flight mode (I forgot to mention that I have the 16gb 7500).

Edit: After reading your post again, I'm wondering if its even found any wireless networks.

could be wrong but if it just keeps saying 'turning on' then eventually unchecks itself, this is usually a kernel module error. try reflashing your kernel and/or rom?

Well yes. I wanted to see if anytjing could be done by remaining stock. But I think it is about time to check out the ICS build. And try another rom. I think I will go for overcome. But thanks anyway!

Might wanna try different options, Overcome has it's own stock kernel, aswell as ICS (Pershoots) but you are welcome to try what suits you best Hopefully the problem fixes itself, magically
Actually I flashed pershoot's kernel but nothing happened. A factory reset solved the problem, but I went on and installed ICS. It's just perfect! Anyway, it has its bugs, so I flashed overcome and everything is well Now I wait for cyanogenmod to work its magic...Thanks for everyone's help. Other thing that bugs me: If i flash stock rom from sammobile will the flash counter increase, since it will be an "official" rom?
Id like to know that too, my phone has been flashed aleast 150+ times over the past 7 months *Developer pride? * so I wanna know how to reset counters o.o
Well I have asked this question in 4 different forums and it is the third time on xda...Seems noone knows...

I think official still count's as a counter+1, but so far only Samsung knows how to reset the counter :| I think they keep it secret just so their consumer's don't sue them saying "Samsung faulty products"

SII Stuck at Boot Animation

Hi XDA Guys,
I have yesterday faced this serious issue, Unable to Boot off my SII - GT-I9100, when I installed a new Boot Animation with ROM Toolbox Pro.
Details: I am using 4.0.3 ICS Stock ROM I9100BVLPB baseband with Build Number IML74k.BVLPB with CF-rooted and CF-5.2 Kernel.
Once I installed a new Boot Animation with ROM Toolbox Pro, last night, it strangely not booting off from that boot animation and stuck at that animation, and is not responding, I tried rebooting several times, and taking off battery, But no luck in getting through with that new boot animation, so I had to Restore to my backed up Nandroid, from the CWM recovery Menu and proceed with the 2 days ago backed up, Working ROM.
So, I was just wondering, if this is a Bug in Rom Toolbox, or inconsistency between the kernel I used, or any other possibilities because of ROM Toolbox Pro Custom Boot Animations?
I have upgraded my kernel to Siyah 3.5.2 Kernel to isolate WIFI issues I am facing with the CF Kernel, whilst performing this Boot animation changes from my Device.
Any Ideas or Experiences?
Thanks
Chaladi
Reflash rom through CWM or Odin. ROM Manager is brick many devices here, don't use it.

Didn't use Rom Manager before so can't help on that, plus you did see the animation so it was not permission issue. Perhaps you should try clear cache and dalvik when changing kernel to let it rebuild again. Booting will take a little longer after clear cache.
edit: oh, if i was not mistaken siyah is incompatible with rom manager. Try manually replace the bootanimation.zip in /system/media.
Look, there's plenty posts on here about ROM manager not working properly on s2.You tried to change your BA and you got no boot.
I've had that program give me plenty of work to restore my x10i and sg2.
I'm pretty sure my probs were booting to recovery from there-it wouldn't find recovery and throttle attempts to fix it.
Think I had to reinstall stock ROM,then reroot to get correct cwm to use my nand backup.
I don't know how its dodgy to use, just that it is is enough for me.

Hi, Thanks for your information, i will delete the Application right now, But Apologies that It is ROM Toolbox Pro that I used and caused me problems, not ROM Manger. Sincere Apologies and Sorry for this misconception. I unknowingly typed ROM Manager, since I managed it very often.
Any ideas about ROM Toolbox Issues? with BA?
ROM Toolbox Pro Bug, Not ROM Manager issue
Hi Guys, Apologies for the misconception I placed here. It is ROM Toolbox Pro, Not ROM Manager issue I have faced.
I installed new BA with ROM Toolbox Pro, and restarted and ka boom... Device stuck at BA . Gone into recovery mode and restored to working nandroid copy from CWM recovery mode boot options .
Sorry for the wrongly spelt ROM Manager Word. Now I am more that ever informed with this Buggy Applications...:highfive:
Thanks :good:
I got a friend he tried to change BA at his nexus ended up with bootloop as well, anyhow he was using jellybean so I just thought that's the case. Now it seem to have problem on S2 also.
Rom Toolbox was working well on my previous ICS rom, fonts, autorun, and battery icon all works as it should. I'll give BA a try, give me 10 mins :silly:

No problem mate, I always keep a nandroid handy. Currently using paranoid android rom v1.9.5, siyah kernel v3.5.2. Rom Toolbox v5.1.8
Good luck
I'm not sure why everyone is going on about ROM Manager lol
I have used ROM Toolbox many many times and had about a 98 percent success rate.
I've used it to change boot animations, icons and build prop.
The problem is that when you change anything like that you are messing with your phones framework files and errors can easily occur which result in boot loops.
Before making any changes like that always make a nandroid backup and at the very least backup your framework-res. Apk file.
Have fun

boot looping for no reason, any help?

My SGS2 has been running AOKP for a few months now, all of a sudden today the phone keeps rebooting itself every few minutes. I have tried wiping cache, full wipe etc.... I tried installing a different kernel and also a different rom, now it's on ShoStock, but it continues to loop. Also I have flashed the newest version of CWM but everytime I reboot the phone it reverts back to the old version. Any ideas help?

Thanks guys, another issue I noticed is that the power button was acting really strangely. When you pressed it it wouldnt turn off the phone it would just bring up the restart menu or it wouldn't register at all, so I thought I had a hardware issue. Any finally I ran this kernel cleaner:

did a full wipe etc...installed rom and then kernel and that has seem to do the trick. Going to hope that it continues to work and I don't have to go out and buy a new phone!
Looks like I have some donating to do.
Don't use ROM manager to flash cwm. As that is what it sounds like u did when u said u "flashed" cwm. Our kernels have recovery built in.

Yeah, that's probably incorrect.
For our phones, CWM is included in all custom kernels and isn't separate from the kernel at all. The only way to update CWM is to flash an updated custom kernel, like if Siyah or NEAK were to update for instance.
Don't bother trying to update CWM all the time, there's honestly little to no benefit from even trying and you'll likely end up with problems instead like you did this time. The version of CWM included with the custom kernels available is more than sufficient, just stick with those instead of trying to update it separately.
So I thought I fixed it but at last I haven't. After running the kernel cleaner, installing different roms/kernels the phone still boots for no reason after a while, not as often but at least 2-5 times a day. I am have no idea what's going on.

Yes it is definitely from my favorite series of books. This is one of the only forums I visit that I couldn't get just Mostly Harmless.
Doesn't really get hot, but after a while the power button stops responding and only time fixes this or a fresh install of a kernel. I formatted my SD card and the internal memory (without grabbing my pictures ) and any app I install is new from the market.

Help, Vibrant does not boot

I've been using the euphoria ROM for a few months now with no incident. The phone has never given me problems of any sort, well the bad GPS, but that's a known issue.
Anyhow the other night went to bed without charging my phone. In the middle of the night I woke up and realized it was not charging, so I connected the charger and went back to bed. However by that time my phone has fully discharged so I got the battery graphics.
In the morning when I tried to turn the phone on I got the spiral boot icon and then a black screen.
I've tried to get the recovery mode but to no avail. I know the phone is somewhat working because i get the spiral boot animation and the charging graphics but i cannot get the phone to turn on. Did anybody know a fix, any advice will help.
Thanks in advance
=X=
I like your name, X (thats my nickname around here )
Anyways, when you plug it in, does the charging stuff come up? (if yes, how much battery do you suppose its at?)
Have you tried download mode? (take out battery, plug in USB, put battery back in while holding... I think its vol up and down + power, after it says VIBRANT let power go)
I'm not sure if your phone even goes that far.
Likewise I like your nickname.
My battery is close to 100%. I tried the sequence you mentioned with no luck. I get the same behavior, I get the spiral boot graphics and the phone good black. With the cable connected I get the charging battery graphics. The graphics does work properly. When the battery gets to 100% it vibrates too

Just curious, what ROM/kernel were you on?
Also, by the spiral graphics are you talking about the bootanimation?
Are you on Froyo bootloaders or Gingerbread bootloaders?(if you don't know and have never messed with bootloaders its froyo)
I'm running Chimera v2.2. It's an ICS ROM made by team passion. The kernel is 3.1.10
Yes by the spiral I mean the boot animation. You only ever see it from a cold boot.
I don't know what boot loader I'm running.I think team passion is using the same one as Cyanogen. It's that common boot loader with a GUI.

Well the bootloader doesn't really use a GUI. You might be talking about the recovery, the one with "reboot system" and "install zip from sdcard"
What i was referring to was when i was installing the Chimera ROM I hadn't use a GUI app to install the ROM l. I thought the instructions mentioned it was installing a bootloader, but I could have miss read it.
Okay, X, I tried the steps again. I realize I did not follow all of your steps so I repeated them again. This time in tried the three finger salute with the USB plugged in and it worked. I get the recovery menu by choosing reboot it boots up properly.
However when I shutdown and turn on the phone I'm back to square one

I was planning for you to go to Download mode and ODIN, but err..
Next time you go to recovery
*make sure you have a ROM in your sd card that is safe to flash, even if its chimera*
wipe data/factory reset
mount/storage > format system
flash your ROM in sd, then reboot
Yeah I wasn't expecting it to work. But now that that worked I am a bit nervous about installing a ROM incase the bootloader is corrupted.

:l, pretty sure you're confused, and the bootloader is not corrupted. If bootloader was corrupted, your phone would never start without a JTAG again.
Anyways, get into recovery, and flash chimera or any other safe rom you have, and see if it boots up. I think it may be something with Chimera.

Just a suggestion, don't re-install Chimera... Or at the very least, don't use it as a daily driver. I stand by that for two reasons. For one, Chimera may have been the reason you got into this problem in the first place. The second reason being... Well... Er... Chimera v2.2 isn't the best ROM out there, and it's kinda dated... I'm sure there's others that would agree. I mean there's plenty of other ICS ROMs available that run much better. Jellybean ROMs have also reached a point of stability, so there's some good Jellybean flavored options to choose from as well. Personally, I'm running ParanoidAndroid (JB) and I'm lovin' it.
Just my two cents... But if you like Chimera, then stick with it. It's definitely a usable ROM.

Awesome. If you're like me -- a big fan of customization -- then I'm sure you'll love ParanoidAndroid (LINK).
Otherwise there are ten other JB ROMs to choose from, and about seventeen different ICS ROMs to choose from (excluding Chimera v2.2). Links to said ROMs can be found in the "ROM" section of the Vibrant Bible thread (LINK).

I'm still having problems with my phone however.
So I've upgraded my phone to the latest ParanoidAndroid but I'm still getting the same problem.
All works fine once it's running but I have to use the USB and three finger boot to get the phone to start, once I'm in the recovery mode selecting her restart launches the OS .
However trying to start the phone from a cold boot does not seem to work...any ideas anyone?

It's probably not bootloader-related, but for what it's worth, froyo bootloaders don't work well with ICS Roms.
Chances are it's just a ROM issue, but if that fails just ODIN to default, re-root, install GB bootloaders, etc. (Basically, start over)
I have run many ICS and JB ROMs without issue running froyo boots. It was mostly GB ROMs that had issue and needs GB boots. I don't suspect that to be the issue however, it won't hurt to try it.
I am Jack's smirking revenge.
