Hey guys. I was wondering what kernel and or ROM is the fastest availible at the moment.
I've been following the Android Developement pages here for a while, and I consider myself somewhat proficient at flashing firmware, etc.
I'm running CM7 on my Vibrant right now, and I was wanting to flash a different ROM. I considered going back to stock, but I wanted to get input on what is the fastest availible right now.
Also: what lagfixes and overclocking tools do you use? I am trying to make my Vibrant as fast as possible.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Malice is the fastest. Bullet kernel is the only one which can do 1.4Ghz so i am assuming its the fastest.
Agreed! kernel/ROM (imho) Bullet1.42Ghz/Malice2.3.1.
Another good kernel i like is Tigersbloodv3
Both those kernels OC well if ur phone can handle it.
If your phone doesn't play well with OC my personal favorite is CwK
Also, download Spare Parts from the market and set both animations to "fast"... this makes the ROMs appear much faster.
The real test is going back and forth between apps and the load time.
"fast" is kind of a floating point. As someone already mentioned, fast can sometimes be as easy as speeding up the animations.
I've had great luck with the SimplyGalaxy roms due to their ability to remain fast months after flashing.
Cool! Thanks for all the input, guys!
What about overclocking and lagfix utilities?
I heard there is an app or tool that you can overclock, but set to underclock when the phone is not in use...
Also, I was using one click lag fix on stock, is there anything like that I need for these ROMs, or does it come built in?
For over/under clocking, try setcpu from the market.
OCLF is nowhere near as good as Voodoo. Most ROMs that are available in the dev section come with a voodoo injected kernel.
Try vibrace overclocked. I guerentee you will love it!

Malice or Bi Winning W/ Bullet Kernel.
Then spare parts to adjust animation speeds. <3
I personally found MIUI to be the snappiest at 1.3 ghz.
I've been running custom ROMs on my vibrant since the day it became possible, and every time I install something other than one of Eugene's ROMs I come to regret it.
CM7 with a custom OC/UV kernel gets a 2100 Quadrant that translates to a really snappy UI and 3D faster than any 2.2 ROM.

I reach quadrant scores in the 2700's on 2.2.1 roms....but what does that really matter.

Its possible that your phone is more sensitive to an overclock than others. Some just don't like it. You should be able to boot into recovery and flash the rom, just wipe cache, dalvik and system. You will still have all your settings but you will be back to the base kernel.

my phone does the same thing when i install that kernel, the lock screen flashes once when booting. but that is the only thing i notice. i dont believe i have seen any artifacts after my phone is booted up.
just reflash the rom if you seem to be having problems and it will put the stock kernel back.

Yea some phones don't play well being OC'ed
i think/believe that in the old base, my phone was able to overclock over 1.8Ghz. Do you think it could be the kernel?
my memory is a bit blurry, had the og and the 3D so its hard to remember. thanks for the response.

try to dl it again and check the md5 to make sure they match might just be a bad dl
If it was a bad dl the file integrity would be compromised, it would most likely not work at all.
That kernel just didn't play nice with my phone I tried just about every combo of settings
Same her I think I'm just going to wait it out, I install meanrom 4.7 and overclock still not working, I guess its a miss voltage or something. I hope I could overclock my phone soon.
Fx 8150 overclock to 4.5Ghz

I came from stock rom and evilz kernel and had no problem with oc up to 1.9 and everything ran smooth. With MR I can't run any oc. Rom without oc is smooth as silk it just won't accept oc which leads me to believe the oc just doesn't play well with MR on my phone. I can oc, just not with MR! I'm s=off, lazy panda and have tried clean install plus dirty flash all the way from 4.0. It's not that my phone won't oc, it just won't oc with MeanRom! Hmmm, guess I'll just have to wait a while and continue to try with each new update. Even with all that, I'll continue to stay cause this rom IS VERY SMOOTH! Thanks for all your efforts Mike!

the problem is that it is under-volted too much for some phones, if you can boot up and get to system tuner or some other app and bump up the voltage 25-50mv it should work, it did for me after a week of trying with screen tearing and constant lock-ups and reboots. if i helped hit thanks please!
Thanks, I'll give that a try later this afternoon.

Ok, jacked the voltage up 25mV and still was a little unstable. Went ahead and raised it 50mV and so far it's holding solid. Will keep you posted. Thanks again!

i think flappjaxx (sorry if misspelled) is the best JB action you can get at the moment. Ive tried just about every rom/ kernel out there. His latest is just awesome. 2 days and 19 hours I have been running his rom and kernel. I have it overclocked to 1.83 and used his gpu overclock tool . The thing just flies!! Awesome battery life and not a single reboot yet. I have no reason to switch to anything else at the moment.

Correct...
FJ has great skills, and is always generous beyond his means...
Donate much, donate often, to "all" of our generous developers.
And while I have called out FJ here, I in no way want to give the impression that I don't appreciate all of the great work here, from developers, to every day users...
Thank you !!....g
I have to agree... not a single random reboot since I loaded his 3.0 kernel and the 1/7 nightly.... I think his latest CM comitts and tweaks have fixed the CM bug that's been a PITA for everyone!

Used on Jamie's pa ROM and nightlies and I love this kernel rarely get reboots now and has the real butter feel. I don't even need to oc, using 01/14 nightly and xposed app for per app dpi. If u r still having issues do a clean install and wipe internal storage. Be sure to back up or internal 1st please

Running 1/14/2013 and I get the same issue. The older 2.3.5 kernel has no trouble.
Also, while the kernels bench great and feel smooth, I've noticed audio pops with the headphone jack that don't show up with the stock CM10. Probably just some sort of IO priority issue somewhere but unfortunately a problem for me.

This may sound dumb, but where exactly do I OC the GPU? I'm still using SetCPU and I heard it doesn't work that well on JB. What do you guys use for profiles, undervolting, etc?

the most stable from my experience was a cm9 ics based rom as its most compatible with the device...most roms 4.1 based and higher have reboot issues because of a deep sleep issue caused by the default setting of the min frequency being too low under performance settings...but if you want everything to work including bluetooth and not have sense cm9 would be your best choice...4.3 based roms still have many bugs such as mms not working after first reboot and camcorder keeps force closing..4.1 and up still has a few bluetooth based bugs and your reboots...the reboots still happen on 4.3 based roms like pac until you change it to proper settings
Liquid smooth all day

The AOSP ROM I used for a while was PAC but it started rebooting a lot because it overheated while charging. CM9 was stable for me and CM10 is almost stable.

Even the latest version of cm9 (back in 05/28/13) has bluetooth problems. Is there really no aosp or kang that is 100% functional? Weather it be 4.0, 4.2, 4.3? Came close with Liquid Smooth but still having soft reboots.
Consider Talon v1.0, because either nobody is using it (unlikely with over 3000 views), or people are using it and brenuga just built it right and it works... and my money is on the later. Seems extremely stable, feature rich, and bug-free, it is what I am going with for my work phone.
My ROM of choice is CM10.1.3. I have zero issues with it. CM9 would be my next choice.

You may use any ICS ROM you'd like but I'd recommend Energy ROM. In Android Tuner app you can turn on the second core for sometime but this won't stick, it will go offline again after sometime with faux kernel. It won't even turn on when core0 is in load creating lags in UI, touch and in games. This does not happen in Nightmare or Kozmik kernel. Never used stock kernel.
