Hey Guys. I just wanted add this information here to make it easier for other Virgin customers. You can root your Virgin SGH-I747M by using the Bell ODIN tar file in the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426. The first post in this page also give you information on installing CWM. I used the CWM that works on all SG3 variants and have no issues so far or trip my flash counter.
For custom roms, you can install anything that is OK for Bell. Virgin and Bell have pretty much the exact same firmwares which is why there isn't a separate thread for Virgin phones. If it works on Bell, it will work on Virgin. I am currently using kyanROM 1.12 and it flashed without tripping the flash counter. I will try other roms and see how it goes.
This is just to help those who are searching around but cannot seem to find the answers. If you have issues with flashing or any other roms, you should get in touch with the developers and they will be able to help you. This is just to give you my experience of what I have done so far and my results. As always, search before posting. Good luck guys and practice safe and smart flashing

I have been searching around, and I have seen a Bell ROM and Rogers, but no Telus. If someone could find me the Telus ROM and prefer it rooted, that would be awesome.
Thanks for your help.
You really haven't been searching hard then.. I found this by searching 'telus root' in the dev section in like 30 seconds . I knew about it cause I used it to restore to stock by flashing the stock telus kernel over it.
anyways good luck
[ROOT]For TELUS Note (i717D) - No Flash Counter
Thanks, but I did use the search, and many times using terms like telus odin, telus rom, telus stock rom, etc... anyways, I missed it, thanks
Hi,
I'm new to rooting the Galaxy Tab 10.1. I've done a ton of reading on this forum & was able to successfully root my GT-P7510 using bugs9477's stickied guide.
At the time I had a problem completing the root due to the scrolling screen with the CWM-based Recovery tool. As advised I unrooted my device using the P7510XABKMP_P7510UEKMP_HOME.tar.md5 stock ROM as per the guide.
I purchased an Australian Galaxy Tab 10.1. Now my device is using a United States stock ROM. It seems from my reading people aren't concerned about using other country stock or modified ROM's. I'm not worried about voiding the warranty using another stock ROM. But is there any concerns software specific pro’s or con’s I should be aware of when using another country specific stock ROM?
I searched for a stock ROM on sammobile.com. I could not find an Australian specific ROM. I did find an Open Asia ROM - P7510DXKG4. Did I not find an Australian ROM because it just doesn't exist & all Australian devices just use the Open Asia ROM?
At the moment I’m only interested in having a rooted device using a stock ROM. I’m asking all these questions because I’m thinking I might unroot back to a country specific stock ROM & then go through the rooting procedure. But if there isn't any real good reason to do so I won't bother hence the reason for my question.
I'm sorry if this question has been asked many times. I just couldn't find anything specific to my particular question.
Thanks in advance. This forum is fantastic & has helped me so much.
Cheers
Can someone please respond to my thread. Cheers.
No worries - thanks. I'm already happly rooted & used my first custom ROM yesterday being scrosler's CleanROM 1.4. Very happy with my experience so far.
I was only just wanting some answers regarding a stock ROM for my region. I'm not going to get to hung-up on the whole thing. I just wanted to know if for any reason I wanted to unroot & go back to stock for my region.
Wasn't able to find a solid answer in the dev forums or anywhere else, has anyone tried flashing the Phantom Blazer ROM on Rogers using the i747M? Also, if you have, is there any loss of network quality/network speeds after flashing? Phone is rooted and CWM is loaded and ready to go; just waiting for the right ROM to flash and there isn't much information about any Canadian carriers. Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks!
Hi Looking for a bit more information after reading for a few days on rooting and unlocking and best rom for telus i717d.
Ok 1st off ROOTing, do i really need todo a nocount root on the telus i717d? as a JIG will reset count anyways? i know its easier todo now. on 4.0.4 now so can use the nocount method. Just wondering if the need for odin, or can use sd card to root.
As for unlocking, is there a way for free, I know i can download from marketplace apps for samsung unlocks ( mostly galaxy, some say works others say no--really don;t wanna waste 2 hours than finding out have to buy ) but 90% plus posts here all point to provider or a reseller of unlocking codes......Anything Bell/Telus seems to be around $20 on ebay.....
Also, what is the best ROM to use, CM seems like standard for any android phone, looking for performance and most tweaks.
I also read that the i717d from telus has issues when unlocked keeping APN settings for certain providers ( koodoo for example ) ( is there a known solution for this ? )
Thanks in advance.
You do need odin to root. As far as nocount....it is up to you. But Canadian phones usually require another step in getting the custom recovery to stick. Look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775263
If you want to sim unlock your phone for free then look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2124544
Best ROM is whatever works for you. Could be stock, CM, or whatever. 10 people will give you 10 different answers. Best to experience for yourself.
If you want to not have issues with your APN then write it down and you can enter it into the new ROM if not included.

Thanks for the info, didn't see custom recovery to stick issue in my previous research so will read up more on it.
The unlock linked looks easy enough.
I know what you mean about ROM's but seeing as so many out there I guess I will have to play with them each for a while.
Can you flash I717 ROMs on the Telus I717D? I'm having a hard time finding any ROMS to flash on my buddy;s phone. I use Nexus devices, myself so this is never an issue. So far I have rooted his phone, added CWM recovery and SIM unlocked it. I also flashed a baseband from the TMO S2. (Someone in another thread said it works really well for them, and it seems to get good 4G signal, though it also seems to have wifi issues now lol.. but I'll come back to that when I see him again)
Anyway, if you can't flash these ROMS on the Telus variant, can someone point me to any that you CAN flash on it? Thanks!
I must tell him to stick with Nexus phones lol
Hello everyone,
Let me preface this by saying that I have googled this extensively and used the search feature on XDA but so far I have come up with no clear results. Apologize if this has been asked before (it probably has). I hope you guys can help me by providing me with some definite answers.
Background:
I've been researching about getting Lollipop on my device (I had it on my rooted sprint s4 and I miss it dearly). I've heard that the MetroPCS S5 is the exact phone as the T-Mobile S5. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to confirm whether that's the case or not. I have a MetroPCS S5 (SM-G900T1), and I would greatly appreciate it if you guys took the time to answer these questions for me:
1) Are they really the same phone?
AFTER SIM-UNLOCKING THE PHONE
2) Can I put T-Mobile S5 custom recoveries on the Metro Version?
3) Can I put T-Mobile S5 custom ROMs on the Metro version?
If the answers to question 2 and 3 is "NO" then where can I find a place where people are developing for the MetroPCS S5 or that place doesn't exist?
Thank you all for reading and for any help.
1) They are mostly the same as they do use the same network.
2) Any KLTE recovery will work.
3) Any KLTE rom SHOULD work, check the OP of the roms developer. Any KLTE AOSP rom will work.
Here is a site showing the recoveries are the same. -->HERE<--

You can actually flash the stock firmware and have the new modem and everything.(won't have metro bloat anymore but will have tmo which you can delete all that and grab metro bloat if you wanted it) But yes firmware, recoveries, roms, etc

Thank you for your reply. It's cool to hear everything is compatible although I'm still very nervous about trying it lol
Can you expect in the distant future a way to install a custom recovery without tripping the knox count (I believe that's what it's called)? As far as I know there's no way to reset that.

Doubtful that Knox will be figured out anytime in the near future. And you are correct, you cannot reset it once it's tripped.
But if you look around at the Knox threads, the vast majority of users that have tripped Knox have not had any problem getting service or warranty work. So for the most part it's a non issue.
Of course YMMV
