Since importing my contacts from Google, I have 500+ "Not assigned" (to groups) contacts.
When looking at other groups, I can "Remove Member" and tick multiple members, but I cannot seem to do this with the "Not assigned" group.
Any idea how I can remove them without having to do each one individually?

Why not block-add them to a new group first, and then remove them from there?

When I try to compose a text message to multiple contacts, I have to choose from a contacts list that seems to include everyone I've ever emailed in Gmail. I've gone in the People app and set "View" to only "My Contacts" but the other ones are still showing up in the messaging app.
Any help?

anyone?
I believe there's another category that's like "ungrouped contacts" or something along those lines.
That's one of the things that's hard to get a handle on with gmail and android, it's so deeply integrated that it can be a pain to figure out sometimes.
What's showing up is "Other Contacts" when it should just be "My Contacts". It's driving me nuts.
Recently I've noticed some strange behaviour regarding my contacts.
first I save a contact by selecting new contact in the contacts menu.
Then I chose an account under which I want to create the contact.
I never chose phone-only and always sync to the same account, lets call this account 1.
After I save the contact details the contact does not appear in my contact list.
This contact will neither appear in the contacts of account 1 when I log into Google and look at my contacts.
When I search a certain contact name in my phone it says "Contact not found" below which it gives me the option to "Search all contacts".
If I press this option it will show me all the contact information just like I stored it.
I tried searching in other accounts beside account 1 that I could choose when storing the contact but that yielded no results either.
My questions are:
1 Where the **** does my phone store these contacts?? :S
2 Why can't I see them when I log onto Google?
3 How can I get them to display normally under contacts? (and in my Google account contacts)
Additional information:
I run a CM7 NAND-ROM (I think by HyperDroid) on a 512MB version of the HTC LEO
I mainly connect to the internet through Wi-Fi because I'm currently using a pre-paid subscription.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Can anyone tell me if there's any way have a contact thread for all contacts like HTC do?
I just want to be able to see all contact , messages, calls, email in one chronological thread. The Contact History menu option in Contacts will show messages and emails but ONLY if you use the stock email app and NOT the gmail app, and it doesn't display calls anyway.
Does anyone know of an app that will do this?
Many thanks!
Samsungs implimentation of contacts is UTTERLY CRAP - it's the weakest part of their phones.
I hate HATE HATE when a buddy gets a new phone number and messages me, I go to add to contacts and I SPECIFICALLY want to use just "My Contacts" on google NOT the "all contacts" gmail name cache - I want to sift through 109 contacts, not 1400.
and no, I shouldn't have to delete the 1400, they are really handy when emailing in gmail. I'm 99.94% positive my HTC HD2 didn't do this with any of the ROMS I loaded on to that :/
Hi,
I've just updated my phone (Samasung Galaxy S3 i9305) and a lot of recent contacts are not there. This is frustrating and problematic.
It seems my contacts are not saving to my google account (ie I can't find them when I check my gmail account on a PC).
When I save a new contact:
I'll type the number, then click "Create contact". At the top of the contact info, it has the blue google G, says "Google contact" and has my email below it.
However, upon searching a lot of new contacts aren't there! Is there a set time/regularity that the contacts back-up to online?
This is the first android phone that I have had without the option in contacts to choose "show only contacts with phone numbers." Anyone know another way to make this happen? Through Gmail settings or a certain app? Frustrating seeing so many random emails and crap pop up because of Gmail. Sorry if it's a noob question, help much appreciated!
I'm in the same boat as you. I have a S6 and hate that I can't "Show only contacts with phone numbers" on here. Hope this is something in the works or perhaps I'm just not doing it right.
This setting is in the contacts to show options, where you choose accounts contacts are to be pulled from.
Unfortunately it still pulls all email address only contacts. I'd like only contacts with phone numbers.

it's not there. the problem is that the S6 or maybe Gmail itself has decided to move all contacts to My Contacts and even if you attempt to edit those contacts into a different group, it won't let you. going into an individual contact on the phone, the My Contact field is grayed out and it won't even let you deselect it so you can filter another group etc.
i was going to move all the email only contacts to a different group but that won't even work now because every contact is now defaulted to My Contacts and even in Gmail contact settings itself you can no longer change that. even if you move email only to a different group, they will remain listed under My Contacts (or All Contacts) as it's called now.
pretty stupid. hopefully there's a fix coming. i'd hate to use a separate Contacts app.

You can use the web version to that.
h t t p :/ / w w w .google. com/contacts
There, you can remove contacts from the group "My Contacts" so they won't show up in the cellphone anymore (unless you search manually).
Also, I find this post very helpful:

The scripts keeps in your "My Contacts" group only the contacts with cellphone numbers.
