i broke ASUS TRANSFORMER SCREEN just by pressing it with finger while cleaning and it crushed in most peculiar way.
like a water sprinkling from that point symetricaly . the place is apsolut middle
bottom of screen near the proprietary connector.
It looks kinda cool, but is anoying and started getting dirt.
plus proprietary connector is also destroyed by their USB addapter for GPS.
How can I prove that. no way. but whatever, it works by replacing and charging battery from dock to prime, it cannot close with dock battery, but still can be used while charging original.
I know, they are a nasty bunch that ASUS tyrants so i WILL NOT EVEN THINK OF GETTING IN THEIR WAY ASKING FOR A REPAIR NOT TO MENTION A GUARANTIEE...

So you broke your TF201 and are upset with Asus because their warranty doesn't cover damage caused by the user?
There are insurances for this type of thing, not warranties.
/troll...
Your dock broke the screen. The figure pressure just made it visible.
Post some pics please.

Well well, now. Over at Android Forum you posted about the fact that you had dropped it 3 times ( http://androidforum.com/topic/46-how-many-people-love-their-prime/page__st__10 ) Drop it once too often? Is that how it really got broken? Why would Asus be "tyrants" for not covering physical damage (however happened)? A warranty is intended to correct defects, not to fix physical damage the user causes himself. You have to handle the things as if they were made of glass because....well....they are.
I'm also not clear on what your issue is with the connector. Are you saying you can't charge it by connecting the cable directly to the device but you can charge it from the dock?

Well I might be the first to have let my prime fall. Teetered off a stack of towels and fell to the rug about two feet down. Was playing music, and it instantly stopped. Now I can't get it to turn on. Not sure what to do. Plugged it into the charger and the led on the power button lights up, but I was at >90 battery.
If I hold the power button for 10 seconds the unit vibrates once, but no display. Then about 30 seconds later I get a small ding and a screen lock sound.
Any thoughts?

It sounds like Asus made the device so horribly that even a 2 feet drop onto carpet will ruin it...
They probably used sticky rice to hold the internals together. Woot go ASUS! I really hope they get into some trouble over this tablet.
if it doesn't look damaged from the outside from fall, just return and exchange it. we won't say anything
was it inside a case? did it fall on its back, flat on its face, or on a corner? strange how such a short fall on carpet did that. I'd return it asap. should be easy to exchange. especially if it doesn't look like you yourself damaged it.

Because one guy dropped it and apparently it is broke the Prime also is fragile? For real, grow up.

Seems like you broke the LCD the prime itself is on you just don't have picture I would say let it sit a day and good luck
If you have a micro HDMI cable and a TV, you could try hooking it up to check if the device is turning on and if the problem is only with the screen itself.

don't go through all that and void warranty. cuz if you open it up and can't fix it, they will know. then they will accuse you of being the one that broke it n you be outback.

I doubt if he, Jdbaker, really did open it up. he produced no pics or videos of that claim. he just said that to try to make more people believe his theory. just like he said Asus Engineers called him personally to confirm his theories. after he also told engineers he opened up the back himself. sounds like some Major B.s. to me..lol of he really did do that he would've made sure to take pix to back up his claim. I know I would have.
Has anyone noticed how the metal right under the glass that is the case for the charging port bends mine was warped a bit but I noticed I bent it back straight. I check more and noticed its caused by plugging in the charger into the Asus prime and if you move it back and forth it will bend the metal casing and could crack the screen is anyone else having this problem? I'll post a picture when I get home to show what's happening and what others should look out for. This could be really bad.
Yes, mine is bent down but I can bend it back up to insert the charger. Very weak piece of metal there.
same here.
me too.
I caught myself holding the TFP one handed with my thumb right over the charging port. I figured that is what caused the warping.
Mine came bent brand new out of the box.
Add me to the list of a bent case. Scared me half to death because what made me realize that the case was bent was because my screen looked like it popped out. Which made me immediately think that I would have to add myself to the "cracked screen thread." However, I was able to snap the screen back into place except for the part near the power port....which is when I noticed that the metal was bent up and in causing the screen to to snap back into place. So I did the best I could to re-position the metal and the screen seemed to snap back in (not as tight as the rest of the tablet).
Not sure how the metal got bent since I have never dropped it (knock on wood). I do keep it in my brief case, and there may be a possibility that it got jammed somehow (even though I have it in a nice case).
I think it just gets bent frm doing the one handed holding thing like me and a few others that i have read about on here or it could be because of bending the charger. More and more stuff i keep finding out crap. I love this device but man seems that no one tested the damn thing.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500554
Aluminum is just so soft, it shouldn't be a surprise when a piece less than 1 MM thick gets bent. As you can see in the thread, I've even purposefully bent it, several times. Nothing is hurt by it. I don't think it will ultimately hurt the screen or anything, I suppose if you tried breaking your power cord off into it or something.
I haven't noticed it on mine but I keep the little plastic piece in it when its not on the charger to protect it from dust/damaging the port. I have a case so I don't even notice it being there when in use.
That's what i think too .

Mine didn't crack from the charger but it gradually began to get bent since i keep 90% of the tablet docked to the keyboard. Even the rubber/padding in the dock is rubbing/melting off and sticking to the tablet. Yeah, I'm guilty of opening and closing the tablet like it was a laptop so which is why im sure it became like that.
I thought the port was cracked due to the keyboard was more of the problem than it is but it turns out its just the tablets fault. Thanks for the post, at least im not the only one.
Mine has cracked through.
I almost got a hearth attack when i first saw mi prime like that haha.
Then I looked a bit closer, and found out that the whole Prime was bent like a bow! including the screen. I just bent it back with little force and it is back like new. I'm extra careful now when applying any kind of pressure to the tablet.
I guess that's the price for having a whole Alu case... but I think the border of the tablet should be made of something way more resistant than just Alu.
I've had it bent since the day I bought the prime. Always thought it was an esthetics thing.

Me too. Came that way out of the box. Figured it was meant to be that way since it was shipped like that.
I work at the Asus RMA repair center in grapevine TX pretty much exclusively on the tf101, tf201, 300t and sl101. I see these things bent above and around the charging port all the time. Hell, we have techs that bend it themselves when they are servicing the tablet. It's a bad design flaw.

I also inserted a micro SD card into the prime and watched some videos that were on it. I didnt take the card out and the next time i went to access it it was mounted and will not come out of the slot. Then on top of all that I have that LCD mura on my screen.
Now after hearing all the RMA stories on this board I have lost total faith in Asus, and I am reluctant to send it in for RMA but I have no choice since I can not charge the device
What the hell did you do....I've had mine for 4 almost 5 months and besides a little scruff on the body, it looks brand new still, all the connectors look perfect. You had to be like shoving it in and twisting to get it like that...
edit: could just be a defect. But holy damn that's crazy damage. Not something that should happen easy.
Looks like damage caused by user error to me.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
was most definitely a defect, I take extremely good care of all of my devices. The prime has only left my house once since I got it so it doesn't get travel abuse and it is in a protective case. Asus will most likely say it was user caused and not cover it, but unless i want a $500 pound paper weight I have no choice
Man just like that other guy in the "15 Days later this happens" thread.

I don't see how the dock would be able to put the forward-facing force to cause that to happen, even if you were shoving and twisting in a violent fit to get the Prime in lol
How are the pins held to the plastic, just manufactured in or are they glued? That sucks majorly, have a look at this similar thread. Pretty much same issue; someone lists some parts with links in there and I think one of them is the correct one. If nothing you can at least have a look, might be able to fix it yourself without shipping it off to one of their few approved repair centers and paying an arm and leg for it.
Well it has only been gone a week and I just checked the status and it has been fully repaired and is on the way back to me, so Asus didn't consider it customer induced damage. They must be getting a lot of them with this problem

I don't think it necessarily means their getting a lot of them. It seems to me they did the right thing and fixed it for you. Might also be some kind of record in turnaround time as well Did you have to pay for shipping?
Interestingly just last night I went to use my Prime and discovered that despite it been sat on charge the battery was low, I noticed that it wasn't charging.
I then tried docking it and the dock wasn't recognised.
I tried charging it again and while the cable connects fine the part it connects too seems oddly loose, as if its melted slightly and the 40pin connector is now "floppy". Without me holding the charging cable in place despite the fact it fits fine it hangs out at a 45 degree angle.
Called Amazon, they're couriering me a replacement.
I hadto pay to ship it to them, well my company paid for the shipping. I am just happy to beer getting it backso quickly
I understand the need for the proprietary port because of the dock but I just wish it had a micro USB port for charging
2 charges and mine bent
I had my prime for about a week. charged it twice. After the second charge i noticed all the pins were smashed inwards. I sent it into asus as well and it was repaired under warranty. sent in on 4-26-12 (day they recieved) and am getting it back at my house on 5-21-12. Seems a bit long for a repair like that. Seems like a lot of people are having this issue with the prime. I just hope that when they fix it that it's done with a new design so it doesn't happen again. I have had iphones, android phones, blackberry's etc and never ever had an issue with pins in the charge port bending. I will let you know how it looks and how it performs. I've been waiting for it to be repaired longer than I have actually had it (1 week).
don't listen to the bull**** about Rma , Asus always did a good job at it, i boufht a laptop from them ( actually everything that i have as far as pc goes are from asus, and the fan broke, it sisnt spin anymore so i sent it to them and got it one week later, it's just that they don't have everything In stock, sent my prime because the camera broke I've waited 1 week so far, I'm really starting to miss it

Jeez, got my new Prime yesterday, from my insurance company, as the old one's screen cracked.
So I rooted it and installed all the apps and customized it just as I wanted it with some mods. After a while the problems started...
1) Screen went black and had to reboot it. That happened at least 10 times. A few times I had to press the ON-button several times before anything happened.
2) The screen just goes nuts with the colors ie. turns pink and blotchy...
and
3) When I connected the dock...smoke rose from the dock and smelled like welding... Ok, I thought there had been some dirt that burned off. Connected again and noticed it wouldn't fit properly, couldn't lock.
As I unconnected it started to smoke again!!!
Stupid as I am, I tried a third time and...BLAM! Small flames came from the dock!!!
Amazingly the tablet itself is OK, except from 1 and 2...
Guess I'll have to call ASUS
Funny, I now have one Prime with a cracked screen that works fine and one Prime with good screen that is a complete mess and could probably burn down my house!
W.Z.
Ouch! Take some pics please.
i really find that hard to believe....
with the amount of voltage and current the prime is able to provide, i highly doubt it is able to create a small fire unless you did something really stupid with it....smokes yes, fire no.....
but please do post some pictures and let us know what asus says

Can be difficult to take pics, but I can try video.
Hopefully there won't be any flames (or BIG sparks, really) or smoke, as I'm scared it'll damage the tablet...
And I don't think it is "really stupid" to connect the tablet to the dock...
Let's see later what happens :fingers-crossed:
I wonder if I have to contact the insurance company as well, as they got me this crappy one.
W.Z.
once again, with the power coming from the dock and tablet, you shouldn't be getting any flames or a big spark, small one maybe
but then again, im not sure whats inside the prime so i can't be 100% sure on the spark, but flame no... unless you spilled flammable liquid in there... but that will fall under doing something stupid
I guess you have never seen a LIPO battery fire.
...and the strange thing is that it didn't come from the connector, but from the hinge's left side !?
The flame/spark resembled lighting a small match, believe it or not...
W.Z.
Well it certainly wasn't as explosive as in the video...!!!
Funny that's a Finnish video, my fellow citizens experimenting

Hrrm...well, it is freakin' difficult to take a picture with one hand when you're doing something that needs two hands...unless you're a mutant that got three?
Video is easier as I can start recording and then stabilizing the phone/cam on a stand. And no my phone doesn't record to VHS...

I've seen that before - when I was building my own projector. It could be a bent ffc cable. You might want to crack it back open and verify they are all properly seated in their slots and nothing is pressing against them.
Hope that helps!

I re-opened the case. There does not appear to be anything bent or pressing up. Even the case loose, the screen is still like that. I've tried slightly pressing anything with cables attached and the picture does not flicker.

Looks like a cracked screen if you look just right and down of that "cross hair" and would explain the semi working nature of the display. Maybe give us a close up photo of that "crack" to confirm? Maybe you flexed the screen just a bit too much

This ...
The screen clearly has a crack at the bottom of the vertical stripe ...
Ribbon cable busted, or screen ribbon connector is busted (other than the crack).

Wow, that much damage? It appears as though there is a crack on the LCD not the glass, as I can not see the crack when the prime is off. Originally I used a plastic prying tool that I bought online for this purpose, but it broke within minutes. I then used a small screwdriver and pried the case enough to get a fingernail wedged in between, then I inserted a credit card and pried all around the unit. I didn't realize I have done that much damage (cracked LCD and potentially a broken ribbon). I guess my loss should serve as a warning to others.
To be honest, the only reason why I wanted to open the case was to get better wifi coverage. I use the unit a lot for note taking and for the brower when at work. My co-workers with other tablets are able to find wifi networks that I can't, and I was getting a bit frustrated by the Prime.
Now that mine is broken, I can honestly say, I won't be buying another Asus tablet to replace it. With the poor handling of the wifi (saying that it works enough), GPS (removal of the spec), and the few apps that crashed my prime (like World Series of Poker and Where's waldo to name a couple). It has honestly made me rethink the entire Android platform.
I may throw my chips into a Win 8 pro tablet after a few months of it's release, and I don't want an Ipad. I guess I'll be back to using my laptop for now.
Thanks All for the help.
At least someone who has bricked their unit but has a good screen might be interested in buying. Bad luck, but it does show how careful you need to be when opening devices.
Perhaps the LCD is not cracked, just looked again.
The construction of the Prime is quite poor. Did you by chance start opening it from the bottom and not the side? I recall a while back someone wrote about damaging their ribbon cable like that.
Really looks like a cracked LCD.
Cracked mine while trying to replace the glass at the bottom left and the entire screen went kaput, but here it's more centered and it works on the left side prior to what looks like a crack at the bottom. did you first insert the screwdriver right over the right dock mounting point?
I've seen people using putty knives (putty spreading tools used in construction) to open larger panels with success. they're thin and durable- perfect for the job.
Sad to see another prime go like that If only they had LCD's for sale..... I couldn't find one for mine
