weird problem with speaker .. unlocked --> no warranty? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Ok today all the sudden my speaker went acting crazy.
It plays for 1 second --> no more sound
i close the app --> reopen app
It plays for 1 second --> no more sound
etc...
headphone jack works ok.
at first i tought it could be a software issue since it does play for 1 sec. and it seems to recover after reopening the app.. but after 2 wipes and 2 roms (cm9 and wooky, started with AOKP) the problem persists...
ok this is a hardware issue.
1) anyone has a explanation for this strange behaviour? how come it plays for 1 sec everytime (short circuit? )
2) i am unlocked so in theory im out of warranty ( but the law says different so im RMAing this thing... ) Anyone has experience with RMAing an unlocked device? do's and don'ts?
edit: ok im not the only one... wish me luck im sending it in

You can RMA unlocked Primes, at least in the US. I just sent mine in - it was bricked and had a broken HDMI port. I seem to have gotten away without any charge too . See post #34 in this thread for some inside info regarding what to do when you send it in:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678725&page=4
The problem seems to be that it comes back locked and the Unlock app will not work. You might want to consider this if this is an issue for you. See this thread:

Whatever you choose to do, good luck

write to HTC so they get more fan mail, seems it's happening a lot :/ google gives more people with LEDs/headphones problem :/
I had the same issue, after much searching on google I found its a common problem and there's an app called toggle headset that will resolve this. Last time I checked it wasn't in the Marketplace, a quick search on google should lead you to it.
If you have any trouble finding it, let me know and I'll dig out the link for it when I get home.
One word of warning, its unsigned, but it works like a charm for me with no untoward side effects.
Florida.
Could you sned me the link please? I couldnt find it.
Try google and toggle headset+android. Bet you find it then.
Here's the link to the projects site, you should be able to download it from there -

I had the exact same problem and a simple reboot fixed it for me. No problems since. I wrote about it here

Toggle Headset did it, but it's still annoying to have to toggle stuff like that....also, any similar toggles for LED's?

Woah... it sure worked to use that widget... then it IS a software problem.
Let's see if I can deduce something from what I have been reading and my own experience so far:
1. The first couple of days I had the HTC Hero the device automatically switched from internal speaker to headphones when I put those in.
2. After a while the device no longer recognised when using headphones.
3. Then I started to listen in the headphones while pulling the plug in and out of the socket. I DID hear clicks which told me that there wasn't anything loose to the contacts.
4. Then I read that others had the very same problem and someone suggested that a hardware reset maybe would fix it. I wasn't prepared to go that path just yet though. Then something happened that more or less forced me to do that hardcore reset anyway. That didn't fix it.
5. Enter "Toggle Headphones". It works.
From this my first thought was that it might have been a hardware fault and a return was necessary. Then I began to read about others having the same problem. A hardware fault affecting lots of users in the first week the phone had been out in the wild? I am not saying it could not happen but it is very unlikely though. But then again a hardware reset should have fixed it right? It didn't. The date and time the phones gets from the network would have been reset too, but since the phone immediatly gets the right time and date as soon as it is powered on from a hardware reset makes it dificult to test (I know we can turn off that feature).
As it is now I think something is wrong with the time and date thingy. And it is a software problem.
Scratch the time and date stuff. I just tried to manually change the time and date back to the day I first got this device and it didn't work either.

[Q] S2 hangs while playing music

Hi there,
I bought the galaxy s2 2 weeks back..and the problem that I am facing is whenever i use headphones for the music, after like 10 secs my phone hangs for some reason! I even return the set to samsung service centre they change the entire motherboard and everything but the problem is still there!!
Please Advise!
Thanks
Hani
I have the same problem too...i have to remove the battery and set it up again for rebooting....
I have no idea how to fix that but i think it's a ROM bug and updating to ICS will solve the problem

try any third party applications and check problem remains or not...
eg : trail versions of Power Amp or Player Pro
What ROM are you using? Stock or a modded one and GB (gingerbread) or ICS (ice-cream sandwich). Because modded versions have different fixes for them to get things to run stable.
PS
What strikes me strange about your post is you said you brought this to a Samsung service center and they replaced your motherboard.
This implies it's not a ROM/software problem.
Did you buy a used phone? Also I don't know any official Samsung Centers that will replace the mobo for you. They usually replace the phone for some hardware problems like that (but it's possible I guess).
**Because if the service center replaced it, and you still have that problem, then they either didn't do a good job (because they should have tested it to work), or you have some bad ROM flash.

Yes they do well posted on XDA .

Thats probably true as well .
OP suggest wipe phone and flash stock GB rom to test .
Of course it could be your music is the problem .

I had the exactly same problem plus bunch of others which led to service trip.
Phone went to local service center and came back repaired, only to work for two days.
They changed the earphone jack and speaker modules on the first run.
Second time it had to be sended to service it had problems witn wifi and bt.
They changed mobo.
Third time proximity and lightsensors didn't work so they replaced the phone.
Last time my phone hung, the problem was my modded earphones.
I ripped the original samsung earbuds and replaced them with KOSS portapro's.
I had miss-soldered positive and negative on other earpiece... I changed the polarity, and now everything works.
Mysterious...
Thanks for the info JJEgan on the mobo replacements. I guess it's a region/location thing. I traverse mostly from Taiwan and Japan, and they just replace units with any hardware problems after they check it.
Back to the OP:
The music plays fine when earphones not plugged in right? I asked a friend who works at a service center here and he says it can be either the earphone jack is faulty or not connected properly (inside case), or maybe you didn't insert your earphones all the way (lol that's a stretch but never know).

I9300 - Suddenly: No sound at all

Hello dear friends,
I've been running my I9300 for about 1 1/2 years now. Yesterday, after weeks and weeks of not changing anything (PA3.99RC2), the speakers AND microphone stopped working. So now sound when playing music, no sound during calls and no functionallity of the microphone (Google Voice and Calls). The only thing, which can be related to this issue was a testing of an old external speaker, which i connected to the phones audio jack (and which did not work but did crackling sounds).
I am sure its not a software issue, as I allready reflashed PA3.99 and also returned to 4.1.2 and 4.3 stock rom. What I can say is, that the phone is running quietly well and fast, WiFi, internet, all. But: If I run something with a sound, e.g. tapping on the loudness controll or even starting mp3 or youtube it becomes laggy and stuttering, even rebooting sometimes.
My last workaround was to connect a bluetooth headset to have an "external soundcard" but i still get no sound at all and it becomes to lag.
In my opinion, the soundchip of the device was grilled by using the damaged external speakers and so it responds weirdly to signals -> generating lags on use. Do you have other ideas what could be wrong?
Now for a solution: I think, buying a new (old) mainboard on ebay and changing that part might be the best possibility. Or do you think, the damaged module is in the upper part with the audiojack and the antenna?
Thanks a lot in advance,
cmoe

Ah, almoust forgot this:
The mechanic told me that changing one of the audio chips would cost 89€. Changing both chips would cost 130€.
I got a new (used) mainboard for 50€, changed it and everything is working well (including all those reidculous data not wiped on the new chip ;P)

Bad call quality

Hi...
I got a xperia z2 prototye. model 6503.
Everything is working fine, except the call quality. i can hear and understand very well, but the other person has echoes, and very bad sound..
When I use a heatset, there is no problem. and it is almost good, when I put the phone on the table, with speaker on. The problem is worst, when I hold the phone on my ear..
Is it a hard- or software related problem?
I´m now on 17.1.A.2.55
THX
Since others have not complained about this issue, it looks like a hardware issue. Maybe your microphone is faulty?
Take it to Sony and get it checked.
I did some voice recording, and it is brilliant.
Try turning off the noise cancellation feature during calls, and see if there's a difference.
Well it's a prototype so who knows...

I first became concerned when I recorded an outgoing message for the phone's default answering machine...As a test I download a voice recording app that let me turn off noise suppression/cancellation.
It brought it from unusable to usable, still not good. But I think your suggestion is a good one, I just don't see why a software tweak improves on something that seems more like a hardware problem. I say that because I can't find a single thing on the web aside from these two posts stating any concerns about it.
This is killing me...turning off noise cancellation only improves the quality in that particular app. Turning it off in the Call settings didn't change anything. I can't record an acceptable answering machine greeting no matter what I do.
EDIT- I also have unlocked my bootloader and thusly lost my DRM Keys... OP has a prototype Z2, perhaps something there?
Same problem here, and mine is not a proto
my nephew and my gf got Z2 too, and same problem...
we hear wel, they can't hear us clearly
Considering that the quality of sound that comes out of the speakers when we hear music, it sure is software problem! In Xperia Z was the same thing in its release!
non proto:
when I'm on earpiece, the caller will always be breaking up. I'll have to disconnect and return the call before everything's crispy again. though there are times they'll complain of not hearing me properly. turning off the "background noise" option seems to help but they'll tell me it's noisy as fuuu.
lol hoping for a software fix I guess.

i have had a problem with people being able to hear me clearly ! if i let the phone even drift slightly away from my mouth people say they cant hear me or im breaking up ! ! i had a GS2 before this phone and never had a problem like this . this to me is a hell of a major flaw ... if you struggle to use a mobile phone as what it is designed to do .. then it aint worth a s**t ! i have to keep the phone pressed up against the side of my face all the time im using it ... i cant just wedge it under my chin like i used to do with the old phone. maybe if i root and install a custom ROM it would help this issue ???

First time I've seen my problem described to the letter. It's especially bad when I hold the phone with my chin and no hands. Maybe people should report this to Sony as I don't get any complaints from the receiving end so far. My only complaint is the sound quality of the voice in the earpiece is not rich. The voice lacks low frequency.

On my handset I constantly have hissing noises during a call and voice breaking up intermittently, but not when I'm on speaker or headphones then it's all crystal clear.
Mine is 14W16 and I've already had it replaced but the problem is still there (replacement device also 14W16).
Does anyone else experience this?
I've already disabled/enabled microphone noise suppression and speaker voice enhancement, but to no effect.
EDIT: My third device (also 14W16) still has this problem, maybe a faulty batch or is it probably a software problem?
EDIT2: Seems to be a software related problem. I have flashed the new 17.1.1.A.0.402 rom and it's almost perfect now.
It seems like a recurring problem...
Hi Guys,
Here's my post on Xperia Care (3 threads dealing with this specific issue):
"I've had the exact same issues since my very first call. I am pretty sure it is a hardware issue and not software or use-related (my phone has never been in contact with water, the issue started in an "out-of-the-box" context and ALL the people I've had over the phone guessed that I changed for a new one just because they could not hear me as clearly as with my former HTC HD2 which I'm starting to deeply regret for this basic use of calling for a phone!).
Searching over the web and through this forum, you can find many people complaining about this problem and saying that a standard exchange did not solve it: would it be a batch problem?? For info, mine is a simlock-free purple model bought in Germany.
Another thing, using noise cancellation is even worse according to my callees so I guess I'll never use this feature, then... All details provided by you guys are described by my friends when I have them on the phone: hissing, hearing me in the distance (muffled sound), hearing their voice in echo (bad Z2 speaker=>mic interaction), vibration (resonance/vibration due to the phone design itself??), hearing like intermittent wind gusts and very very bad sound when I hold the phone between my cheek and shoulder...
As if this would not be bad enough, now the camera application does not record sound anymore when filming (it used to be OK before updating to newer version through PC Companion). Instead of proper sound you hear constant hissing. After a lot of tests I've realised that it now uses the noise cancellation mic instead of the primary one. When running a mic test through Xperia diagnostics menu you can hear back that hissing and no sound at all. Doing the same test through the *#*#7378423#*#* menu gives a different result since I can hear the recording perfectly well (because it is using primary microphone)."
After rebooting my phone, the secondary mic is now working. This leaves me very puzzled now: would it be a software issue in he end??
I'm phoning French Xperia Car hotline tomorrow, keep you posted.
Cheers

Any update on this? I just got this phone for my fiancé and it seems that she's having the same issue. I can't hear well.
Must have something to do with positioning the mic and how far it is from the mouth. More than a design problem than a hardware one methinks.

Hi SooSpecial,
Xperia Care had no explanation about this; they advised me to file a standard exchange procedure with the seller, which I did.
I'm now waiting for my new device, hoping I won't have the same problem anymore.
If not, I would ask for a refund and go for a G3 instead. That would be a pity because I really like the Z2.
I'd advise you to have your girlfriend's handset changed asap, otherwise you would have to go for a repair procedure w/ Sony, which may take approx. 1 month, leaving you without any replacement smartphone if it was a simlock-free one...
FYI, this problem has also been reported on Xperia Care Forum in 3 threads on Frandroid (french forum) and on some customer reviews on Amazon (as far as I know).
Good luck with that

Microphone problem in my Redmi Note 3

Greetings everyone,
I had bought a Redmi Note 3 a couple months back. The microphone was perfectly fine at that time. After the MIUI 8 update, I am having a lot of issues with the microphone. When I call someone or vice-versa, I can hear them but they cannot hear me. People complaint that all they hear is static. When I restart my phone it starts working again for half to an hour. I even used the sound recorder but all I heard was pure static. A tap on the microphone gets it started everytime. I tried CIT and it doesn't work until I tap on the microphone. The tap isn't too hard nor too light. I thought the problem was with the MIUI8 and unlocked bootloader and flashed CyanogenMod 13 to see if it gets fixed. Now I hear static plus a little of my voice. When I shout right near the microphone, I can hear my voice but very lightly, along with lots of static. Is this a hardware or a software issue. And can someone tell me any way to fix it?:crying:
Edit: Just noticed that even though I can hear a faint sound of mine in sound recorder when I shout into the microphone, during calls people can't hear me. All they hear is static.
Thank you
Regards,
Sriram
Device: Redmi Note 3
Bootloader Status: Unlocked
Firmware: CyanogenMod 13
well, easiest step would be to go totally stock ... normal MIUI without anything fancy.
if the problem persists -> hardware issue
if problem is solved -> software issue

Thank you very much for replying. Although, I have already tried that. I went to cyanogenmod, then back to MIUI and then I even downgraded to check if the problem is there, after which I came back to cyanogenmod. The problem is always there. Its happening to a lot of redmi note 3 phones. Also, when I record audio I am able to hear my voice, but its very faint. There is a lot of static cutting it. Also, I had unlocked bootloader the unofficial way and had rooted it too. I did it the unofficial way because after I got permission from MIUI to unlock bootloader, the software to do that was constantly giving an error and was stuck at 50%. So due to this reason will my warranty get void or it will be good? And should I take the phone to the service center with cyanogenmod or MIUI and lock the bootloader and unroot it?
so youve been at the original stock software and the problem was still there?
then i believe its hardware related.
as you hear a bit of a sound ... maybe something blocks the microphone? ive watched severall dissasembly videos and it seems to be easy to take the back housing apart. i would do that, check if the microphone seems to be fine and test audio with the back housing apart.
in case you want to go to a service center i can only say what i would do.
i would get the phone as stock as it could be ...

Yes I was at stock and it was there. And I don't think I can remove the back housing part as doing that on redmi note 3 voids warranty and they charge you money for it and return the phone without any repair lol.
Anyways thank you very much. I will put it back to stock rom, relock the bootloader, bring back the old recovery and remove root and take it to the service center. Thank you for taking your time to reply. I really appreciate it.
