Digitizer screw up?! - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just purchased a used Atrix online. When I put in my sim and tried to type in the carrier unlock code, I wasn't able to enter it because I found that there were dead spots on the screen.
Note this is pretty much right out of the box. The only thing that I can think of that might have messed it up is that I stuck my nail in the crack between the side and the screen and moved it along the length of the phone to get some dirt accumulated there out.
What I'm wondering is if I have royally screwed up my digitizer b/c of what I did and if there is a way to fix it? Or do you think i was sent a dud?

I've got the same. The same things are with other Motorola phones like Defy or Milestone.
I've send my Atrix to service

Thanks for the response. Sorry for not doing a search ahead of time. Looks like this is fairly common.

Try warranty. I bought a used one, had the same problem, called in and they replaced it. I didn't tell them I bought it used, nor did they ask. Sent me out a new phone, not a refurbished one.

Oh really? Warranty through AT&T or Motorola?

I use Motorola, they send out new phones, AT&T send out refurbished phones. I found Motorola easy to deal with. I bought my phones used, they didn't ask, and I didn't offer the info. They replaced 2 phones for me.

Another digitizer thread about the atrix. Nothing new here, move along people.

The cost to unbrick a Hermes...

In case anyone was wondering... the cost quoted to me by PocketPCTechs to replace the system board on a bricked JASJAM is $590 USD, plus $60 labor.
Yeah. So I'm having them send it back.
There is also a shortage of the JASJAM/TyTN/Hermes system boards. They've had it a month, and a lot has happened in these forums since then, including some stuff that looks like I'll be able to unbrick it myself... maybe. Hopefully they didn't mess it up any worse (when I sent it, I could still get into the OS).
Unfortunately, when I managed to screw mine up, none of these recent cool programs were out -- and I had to go on a business trip in a week, so I figured I'd send it to the warranty provider and hope they could figure out how to get the radio working again.
How did you brick it?? also what was it doing??
$590+$60 labor? You can get a brand new Softbank X01HT on EBay for less than that.
I had PocketPCTechs replace the LCD on my old XDA IIs. When it came back from PPCT, there was an annoying hum in the earpiece whenever I used the phone. Made the IIs pretty much useless.
IMEI CHECK fixed mine for $40 US. plus shipping....No GSM type brick

Yeah, really. I got a TyTN on eBay from Expansys' open box deals they have there every once in a while for less than that.

Need 8525 Motherboard or 8525 w/broken screen.

Cheap EBAY car charger from Bargaincell.com fried the charging circuit/sync/USB connnector on my brand new 8525. The guy tells me he won't do anything about damages, so I'm stuck needing a replacement motherboard. Other than this my device is in perfect condition, so I'm not looking to part it out either.
If you have an operational motherboard, Please email me at:
natedog731 <NO @ SPAM> hotmail.com
THANKS!
Have you tried putting the phone in for warranty?
Well, I got the phone 2nd hand off of ebay (No Warranty). Shortly there after, another ebay product killed it. See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1443395&postcount=22
I would still try and get it replaced through AT&T. I bought my 8525 through eBay and had an issue with it and AT&T still replaced it under the manufactures warranty for me. I've done it numerous times with phones over the years. The number you should call is 1-800-801-1101. It's definitely worth a shot...
Hmmm... I suppose the worst thing they can tell me is "no"...
I'll be damned... I didn't think that would work... A replacement is on the way! Thanks for the idea, TheBrit and ahfunaki!!
No problem, glad to have saved you some time and money...
And the nice thing is too, the phone you'll receive basically is brand new...
Bah... Cingular/ATT sent me a unit with the White screen issue. right out of the box... *sigh* A replacement for the replacement is on the way...

Or charge you for the new phone after they determine the damage wasnt due to a defect. You gotta be careful as they try to find anthing to make your fault. I got a couple boards if interested
LOL Just called them again tonight... Time for the replacement for the replacement for the replacement . The rep tried to talk me into taking a different model in exchange. "Sir, since you've had the trouble with that model, how about a different model instead? A Blackberry 7100, perhaps?" LOL. He didn't seem too surprised that I asked about the Tilt, and it seemed like he checked stock and said that there was none so far. We'll see what happens.
omg.....really>? if i would of known this i wouldnt of opened my phone and voided it....do you guys think that they will accept it?? i got my 8525 from ebay
to ahfunaki:
Can you write all procedure step by step, because I don’t live in USA but I have couple friends in USA with ATT account? A can call to ATT via skype and organize everything.
Sorry for my poor English.

[Q] Shafted hard by samsung

OK here is my problem questions will follow.
i purchased my gtab 10.1 in usa.moved to philippines.screen started getting fuzzy then blacking out now its totally out. samsung refuses to repair it cause they don't do international warranty.then i went to samsung office here in philippines asked them about repairing my tablet.i was told they wont order or repair my unit cause its not from here and against there laws.so now im sitting here with a tablet that needs 2 parts.(1) lcd screen(2) lcd screen cable (mine is broken).i have looked on ebay none of the lcd screens come with the cable. gotta love samsung and how they do their customers. i dont even have a way to use ebay now cause i no longer have a bank account in usa or a place to send anything to. so does anyone know where or how i might be able to aquire spare parts for this thing?
Why is it Samsung's fault you broke the screen? And why is it their fault you made the choice to buy a tablet in one country when you lived in another? I don't see that they did anything wrong, tbh.

well for one you dont know all the info. you shouldnt be so quick to judge .im american from usa which i purchased my tab from usa. then after purchasing my tab i ended up moving.and what they do wrong is not support their products internationaly. also i did not break my screen. the lcd cable is what broke. the screen went bad before the cable broke so therefore samsung gave me a faulty unit. so yes i have every reason to complain about samsung and there support and product. so please read and understand before judging others. im asking if anyone knows where i might find parts im not asking for others to look for faults or degrading with remarks.

Posting this rant here isn't going to make samsung fix your tab.
Do you have a family member back in the states you can send your tab to and get them to send it to samsung to get repaired?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
wasnt posted as a rant only trying to explain my situation.i already said what i wanted and needed to samsung . anyway i do have family there but by the time i send this to them and they send it in my warranty will be over. so i figured i would just try to find the parts i need and get it fixed here out of pocket.

Insurance claim replacement

So ive had my original for almost 2 years. Well i shattered the screen last week. Didn't want to do it but got a replacement thru insurance and the replacement phone came to me on 4.4.2 my old phone is rooted on 4.1.2. I just got thinking this morning.
Is it possible?
Has it been done?
To take the new phone, unplug the screen, and basically swap the guts out from the old to the new? Basically running old internals with the new screen? Any input would be great.
I pulled my old phone apart already so it's not a matter if i can take the phone apart. I just didn't know if that would create problems with the phone.

Hi JTProuhet,
Yes, that's possible to do if you know how to. I'd check ifixit for more instructions.
However, if you claimed insurance on your phone, don't you need to return the old phone to the insurance company? If you reported it as lost/stolen, then the original phone will be blacklisted and swapping screens wouldn't fix that. The screen itself has no identifying data that would lock it to a certain motherboard, though.
Have a good one, and good luck.
Yes i have to return my old phone. No i didn't list it as stolen. I was just going to swap out internals, and send old phone with new phone internals. I just didn't know if there was anything they could do, or if they would even know. I just can't deal with this 4.4.2 it's crashed more in the past couple days than my old one did running 4.3 leaked ota.
Thank you for your quick reply redjoker
I think it's more trouble than its worth. You'd have to make sure the IMEI number matches that of your old phone, and who knows if they check that indepth or just the sticker.
It probably would have been cheaper to buy a new LCD/Digitizer on ebay and swap out, than to do a mix and match of both phones (for logistical reasons). You can always try, but if it backfires, you might have to pay a fee (cost of the phone, I believe).
You can always click the thanks button instead of writing a new post, too

It's dishonest people like you that are ruining this world. This is theft.
Theft? How? I paid for the replacement phone. Not like i was talking about taking the guts out completely and not sending them back, phone would still work. So not sure how you say theft cause it really wouldn't be stealing anything.
Don't worry chief.. Im not going to do it.

Screen Replacement

Hey guys,
So I am posting on behalf of my dad. He recently dropped his phone and broke the screen. And while he tried to use his one UH OH that he had...apparently service to him was significantly less then stellar, and after a week of 2 hours holds on the phone, credit card holds, and being transferred to god knows where, he finally gave up and is resorting to trying to get the screen replaced himself. His one question is, he was told by a screen repair company that his particular model (OP6B12O) is not a true AT&T version, and was some weird "International" AT&T M8. What I would like to know is...is this true? And does it really matter? I don't imagine the display assembly is any different between models, and if so...wut. Any advice?
