you cant??? If you have ICS official rom for example you can flash a GB and go back with no problem.... at least I do it several times :good:
There's a difference between roms and firmware... firmware can be flashed between old and new versions fine, roms must have the same framework/firmware when flashed.

I have my Neo from a few months and I'm so proud of it. But, in the lasts week, I'm excited to receive the ICS update, so I can't wait and I tried to flash some custom rom on my NEO. First of all I have the .42 firmware stock with root and CWM installed with bootloader locked.
Before i tried to flash a custom Rom, I have unlocked the bootloader. And everything going well, but I try to flash 2 different Custom Rom both with the same result: in the reboot after the flash the NEo is stucked on the Sony Ericsson boot logo animation for an indefinite time, and i don't do nothing except to unplug the battery. So i return to the stock rom using flashtool.
But I really want to tried this custom rom based on ICS, anyone can hellp me?

I think his problem is that he didn't wipe/format something before flashing zip.
Old baseband is causing problems with ending calls

What is it baseband? Do I have an old baseband? How I find out ?
I think the problem is my CWM.

No brother!!! I have the same experience!!! But then I flashed another time and things went well
Sent from my MT11i using Tapatalk 2
i think the problem is causing because ur r flashing ICS custom rom directly on GB... flash stock ICS ftf file using flashtool, flash any custom kernel in fastboot mode using flashtool suitable for the ROM u want to flash (custom kernels has built in CWM), then goto CWM, wipe everything, flash the ROM, done... now that should work..
goto Settings > about phone > baseband to check the baseband's version
Guys a year passed by since that question was asked !

Hi All,
I installed a custom ROM (HYBROM v17) on my XMP a couple of weeks back. I now want to flash the just released stock ICS firmware to my device.
Will this cause a problem? Do I have to install the Stock ROM before flashing the ICS firmware?

If you want to flash the ftf of 4.0.4 using flashtool, you can do it right away. Check
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1690704
For more info.
Thanks,
Rick
Hit Thanks if I helped in anyway.
Thank you but my concern is whether I will face any issues installing ICS firmware while on a Custom ROM that, if I remember well, cited that it is based on .62 firmware.

Basically flashtool will clear the rom on your phone and install the ICS fw on it.
Including baseband and kernel.
So if you have GB on it with .62fw, it does not matter.
The thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1690704 already answers your questions about upgrading to ICS.

Great if that's true! Thank you so much

I can confirm that going from Hybrom V17 to the stock ICS works nicely.

I tried this before when I first flashed to CM9, I get bootloops. Since then, I forever stick to ICS and never trying to convert back to GB although I wish to do so. I dare not and i'm lazy to deal with the bootloops.. I not sure why I get bootloops btw, some other ppl faced that as well. So I hope this brother able to convert back to GB successfully. Good luck.
To convert back to GB you have to flash an old GB bootloader for some reason after flashing the stock ROM. After that do a full wipe, everything else ended up in a bootloop for me.
Fingers crossed .

Yes I succeeded converting back to GB stock ROM, now I'm on french ICS.

I can flash GB stock GDZKL3 after flashing this bootloader right? bootloader should flash before flashing rom, or after flashing the rom? Thanks.
I tried both options. Try flashing the bootloader at first but don't forget to uncheck "Auto-Reboot" in odin. After that you should be able to flash the stock GB ROM. Do you have a jig just in case of any problems? I remember I used my jig, but don't really know why.

Hi
I was read the topic about rooting ICS firmware. It's very hard for me,but GB firmware look like easier for do it.
Can I downgrade my LWM to GB ,start rooting from it and install CWM and cutom ROM ICS base ??
Yes you can downgrade

You can downgrade, but maybe the custom rom won't boot. For an ics custom rom you need to be on ics first and for a gingerbread custom rom you need to be on gb!
The tutorial to root ics with the downgrade -> updgrade (local-prop, push-root-files) is easy, all steps are explained with screenshots. You could try it

Not really. Only few ROMs that require it, most ROMs wipe the old ROM anyway, so it doesn't matter what you had earlier. As much as I have used custom ROMs, I didn't have problems install custom ICS on GB.

I had some bootloops because of this, and as I said, he should try it on gingerbread and if it works it is great and if it won't work he can try to update to ics and install it again

Forwarded from my other thread post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2473982 , I have 2 questions.
1. Which thread guide me to flash to custom rom straight way from HC 3.2 stock samsung 10.1 P7510 to JellyBean custom roms ? including Nandroid backup ?
What I know , flashing from 3.2 to 4.1 method must be in a correct step avoiding brick or I Should use the traditional method , 3.2 to ICS then Jelly bean ? such as kernals base issue ?
2. There are so many custom roms avaliable. I would like to know , which rom works the best with compatibility and smooth UI ? Camera fix and etc ?
Appreciate any help

First...to which ROM is the best...depends on you're style and device. All devices aren't equal...even when they are the same variant. But I like the 4.3 ROMs.Look at my SIG to see which one I'm running today...Lol.
Now..on to you're rooting. You most definitely need to update to 4.0.4 ICS..I have a guide after you're on that version so you can root and stay stock or flash a custom ROM.But you need the ICS boot loader to flash almost all of the new jelly bean ROMs, if not all of them.I believe when you do the official update from kies it will install that boot loader.( never had to as my device was on 4.0.4 unrooted ).
Back up you're tab to you're PC before you go updating..The update might wipe sdcard, not sure. And in case the update goes side ways on ya.
Let me know if you need any help.

Getting to the safe side , the best is using traditional flashing to ICS then to JB.
I am currently rooted for HC.The ordering , I need to flash it to samsung ICS first ? which mean , I need to unroot my device ?
Or I can just flash to custom roms ICS ?
Currently , stuck at this point.Which is the correct procedure ?
Flash stock ICS first using Odin first. Then you can flash to any version you want.
