Why don't you just install the drivers?

Have you activated the debug mode?
When you connect your device as charge only, did it load the ADB drivers?
If your answer is no or "i don't know" then you need to download and install the motorola ADB drivers.
That is why it's not seeing your device in charge only mode. The ADB interface driver is missing from your computer.

It's in the development forum. It automates the motofail process.
I didn't have to put my USB connection to charge only, I think that's a red herring.

Connect your device in device only to your computer. Verify that the ADB interface driver is connected.
If it is not, then you need to get and install those drivers.
Make sure its the data cable that came with the phone, I had the same message "waiting for device" while using an older data cable until I used the correct one then it worked for me! hope this helps if not good luck!
I received my replacement DNA last night and I am unable to get my Windows 8 laptop to recognize my phone in adb mode. I had no trouble with my original. Here is what I have done to try to fix it. I have downloaded and re installed htc sync, updated the drivers and uninstalled htc sync. I also re downloaded the platform tools and set it up on my c drive again. Any ideas?
It has to be a usb 3.0 port. Switch to another port on your computer. It needs to be usb 2.0

Yeah I tried that too. Its weird when its booted normally it can see it and be rebooted to fastboot. But after that it cant see it anymore. I feel like I'm forgetting to do something simple lol!
Booted normally adb devices should recognize it
Booted in bootloader adb devices won't recognize it
Booted in fastboot, fastboot devices should recognize it not adb devices
Where are you having issues. I guess I'm confused.

I got it. Bootloader unlock great success! I was simply having a brain fart. Thanks for the help.
Hello,,
I followed the fast root guide and the installation for the fastboot drivers. But my computer still doesn't recognize my phone in fastboot mode.
In device manager it simply shows up as "android".
Fastboot devices doesn't see nor does adb.
Any solution?

Yehh.. nobody has a clue?
You need to install fastboot drivers twice. Once before you run the omap4fastboot. Then once again after running it. After this your device should be recognized in fast boot. Hope this helps.

Okay so the omap4fastboot is the usb without battery driver,
but when do I get the second one?
edit---
I did it, but without succes, I don't get the part where I have to "Reinstall" the drivers, because it still recognizes it as OMAP Device..
but fastboot just shows up as "Android" in device manager..

Hi.
I know it's an old post but I'd like to know if you ever solved it and, If yes, how you did.
Thanks
Depends on the Windows version. Problem got worse with Win 8&10.
But somebody got it to work, in the L9 TWRP 3.0 thread. But I fear his method at least won't work for me. It seems that the device manager must recognize "something" when u attach the device in Fastboot mode, in order to manually assign the correct driver. My problem is, that despite the fact, that the USB/PnP connect sound keeps playing in a loop, nothing shows in device manager. And in that case, there might be no hope at all.
Hello Everyone,
I'm trying to get ADB to communicate with my new V10 and I'm having a hard time getting the device to come up (using adb devices -l).
I have followed the instructions to enable the Developers Options setting on the phone, gone into DO and check off the Boolean for USB Debugging. When I connect the phone to the computer it recognizes it as a "Portable Device" and not the ADB device needed for ADB.
Here's what I've tried so far:
Install Andriod Studio - Downloaded the latest version of Andriod Studio. Installed it, ran the SDK Manager, and installed the Google USB Driver. Repeated this installation on 3 separate workstations (Windows 10 Pro, Windows 8.1 Enterprise, and Windows 7 Pro). All 3 recognize the phone as a Portable Device only.
Is there anything else I should look at in order to get ADB to work. I'm not an Android Expert, but I have successfully gotten ADB to work with my prior 2 phones (LG G2X and Samsung Galaxy S4).
Thank you for taking to time to look this over,

Download the drivers for the LG G4,did you do that? Also, I searched xda for "adb drivers" and you can find the thread with adb and fastboot drivers instead of the sdk. You can install them system wide, which IMHO makes it a little easier.

I had a similar issue and fixed it by using pdaNet (I believe that's what it's called) to install the drivers and I also had to change the way the phone behaved when plugged in (the popup on the phone when you connect via usb).

Thank you! Don't know why I didn't start searching for the G4 drivers. Was able to google them, find them for download, install them and get ADB to recognize my device.
My phone used to be okay before whenever I plug it into my system, but for some reason, it doesn't get recognized anymore on my PC. I have all of the necessary drivers installed and I do not know what to do. In fact, it doesn't even get recognized even when I am on Fastboot nor in the recovery. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I am using Havoc OS 3.1 with Optimus Kernel (latest version) if that helps.

Does your system come with USB3 ports exclusively? If yes, get a USB 2 hub and connect thru that. Is the cable you're using to connect good? Are the right drivers installed and working on your system?
